[Q] Which 'version' of the Droid 3 will work the best in Europe / The Netherlands? - Motorola Droid 3

At the moment there are known several 'versions' of the Motorola Droid 3...
My question is: Which version is the best for using in Europe / The Netherlands?
I'm using the Vodafone network here in The Netherlands and I want to buy the best version of this device,
which is fully working and compatible with the HSDPA-network out here, which is 14.4Mbps (at the moment)
So which version is best:
1. Motorola XT883, for sale in China
At the moment there is no information about supported networks, standbytime, prices or (sim)locks...
2. Motorola Droid 3, for sale in the USA with supported networks:
WCDMA 850/1900/2100, CDMA 800/1900, GSM 850/900/1800/1900
HSDPA 10.2 Mbps (Category 9/10), CDMA EV-DO Release A, EDGE Class 12, GPRS Class 12, HSUPA 5.76 Mbps
Standbytime is 300 hours and you can call 550 minutes with it.
Disadvantages of this version:
- It is known that it has got a Verizon-provider(sim)lock
- It supports HSDPA speeds up to 10.2Mbps
- It has got several Verizon bloatware on board
- It has got several Verizon logo's on the outside of the device
Advantage of this version:
- The price, which is only $429,00 if I'm correct
(an unlockcode will cost you about $30 via eBay)
- The (XDA)community, which is probably the best for this version
3. Motorola XT860 4G, for sale in Canada with supported networks:
WCDMA 850/1900/2100, GSM 850/900/1800/1900
HSDPA 14.4 Mbps (Category 9/10), EDGE Class 12, GPRS Class 12, HSUPA 5.76 Mbps
Standbytime is 240 hours and you can call 580 minutes with it.
What is not known about this version at the moment:
- Will this version have a providerlock / simlock?
- Will this version have providerbloatware just like the Droid 3?
- Price for only the phone, without a contract, is unknown?
Advantages of this version:
- It supports HSDPA speeds up to 14.4Mbps
- It hasn't got several logo's of the provider on the outside of the device!
My own conclusion
At the moment I thinks the Motorola XT860 4G is the best option...
And I'm still waiting for the Motorola XT883 specifications offcourse.. What do you think? Thanks in advance!
Several topics on XDA / Droidforums about using the Droid 3 outside the USA:
-Droid 3 in GSM?
-Droid 3 sim unlock discussion
-Droid 3 unlockable
-Droid 3 Verizon vs. Unlocked vs. China version..?

Wonderful topic/questions, and the answers interest me also, for the same Vodafone network, also in Europe.
I am trying to purchase the Droid 3 from USA, at this time.
Also, from where can we buy D3/Milestone 3 in Europe?

The most important network is WCDMA. It will show for you with H or 3.5G mark.
(HSDPA is showing as 3G Mark.
EGPRS is showing as E or 2G
and GPRS is showing as G or 2G.)
If phone is equipped with it, it should work everywhere in Europe. I am planning also this phone. And Verizon brand marks looks good..
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App

and where from can we buy it? on verizon they said it can be bought only with a 2years contract...

You can buy it without a contract as well from verizon for $459. I just bought it this weekend.

Unfortunatelly, they did not allow a friend of mine to do so..
So any other online store which sends it to europe?

Even if you can buy it, how do you intend to handle SIM unlocking? AFAICS, third party codes are not yet confirmed to work.
The only chance I see right now is to buy on ebay and to convince the seller to obtain the codes from Verizon for you.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1172521
http://cgi.ebay.com/Unlock-Code-Ver...500?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c5df4bddc
or possibly TURBO SIM?
or perhaps buy it directly from Moto-store, if i were to be in the USA
http://www.store.motorola.com/Motor...dtextbin,subjectbin,color_map,price,size_name

I didn't realize there is already a confirmed third party unlock. Thank you!

its also in the first post of this topic

So, any of the Canadian or USA version will work fine in Europe? (being unlocked, of course) ?

Just ordered the phone from Motorola store you mentioned above. Have it shipped to Germany with borderlinx. Should work...
Why do you doubt it could work? UMTS band 2100 is good enough for Europe, at least Germany, but I think for most other countries as well. Just the same as with D2G.

I should not choose for the Droid 3 if I were me =p
The disadvantages have I mentioned in the first post.
Bloatware, logo's on the phone, not the best HSDPA speeds..
Okay it will work in Europe, but it's not the 'best version' I think..

HSDPA speeds, OK, technically you are right, this is a real disadvantage -- however I doubt I'd really feel the difference, for many reasons ...
Regarding the bloatware, I will get rid of it with another launcher, like Launcher Pro. Just as with D2G.
And the logo is unobtrusive, at least for me.
Of course it is not the 'best version' -- but available NOW.

@CLB-NL, and what do you chose for Europe? Wait for milestone 3 launched for Eu especially?
and what if i buy the D3 without contract? than it should be sim-unlocked?
Any information regarding the Canada version? like..price..sim- blocked??

Something buying a Milestone 2 taught me, is that the US variant (Droid) will get about eleven thousand times more dev support here.

@ rweb: with installing another launcher you still have got the bloatware!
We have to wait for rootacces and then we can delete that crap!
@ bogdan_wrc: personally I think the XT860 4G is the best version to use at the moment of writing this. Offcourse we have to wait for some answers. Simlock, bloatware, price and so on, but it's just my opinion... And we have to wait for the official Milestone XT883 specs also!
@ Sjael: the support is an advantage of the Droid 3, that's true!

But I do not see it anymore, so I don't mind. It may waste some resources, but I don't think this is very much. At least it works out this way on my D2G, and I asume it we be the same with D3.

It will probably work the same =)
And with the standard launcher you also can 'hide' it.
Just create a Verizon folder with all the bloatware apps and don't show / use it.

when i try to buy one, it will only let me use a US address for billing. do borderlinx offer assisted purchasing as well, or am i the only one experiencing this?
trying to order a droid 3 off the US site btw, not a canadian version

3G Diamond for sale (Canada/US)

Hi guys,
Well, the shop that originally sold me the GSM Diamond has exchanged it to the proper 3G unlocked version.
Do not want to go through the bother with shipping back to Japan and dealing with customs. Besides I pre-ordered my Touch Pro with expansys
Thus, I have a new 3G model up for grabs. I paid 750 Canadian for it. Will let it go for 650 CDN.
Thanks.
This would be 3G on Rogers Network? Are you sure of this?
Has it been opened our used yet?
There is no network associated with this. It should be an HTC Retail version that is 3G capable hardware wise. Weather you choose to use it in a 3G network area is up to yourself.
It would be unopened but to be honest I have asked my friend to open it and make sure that it is the correct model that the shop is exchanging for me. So, in actuality it will be opened but unused. He is just going to make sure it is indeed unlocked and 3G.
The reason for this is when I orginally bought the diamond from this shop before returning to Japan they gave me the Indian GSM model, which they are not exchanging as mentioned.
I guess if it is a huge issue to anyone I can ask him not to open it and go by the specs on the box. Buyers choice. But, I need to know as the new one should be in by Thursday.
thx
Careful potential buyers, there is no Diamond, with any ROM, that currently supports North American 3G bands... Only 900/2100mhz. Does not have the hardware necessary to do so.
Thanks for that. Perhaps the best thing is for me to ship it back to Japan and sell here. Not sure if this can be included in any future radio/rom update/upgrade at this point.
But it is the 3G version but as mentioned about supports 1900/2100 frequencies.
Currently:
HSDPA/WCDMA:
*
Europe/Asia: 900/2100 MHz
*
Up to 384 kbps up-link and 7.2 Mbps down-link speeds
Yeah, didn't wanna be a jerk and get you out of a sale, but people should know what they're buying. I'd ship it back to Japan if I were you, that's probably your best bet (unless someone would rather have EDGE on their Diamond now than 3G on it in a few months).
np,
I would just recommend that anyone thinking about it read the specs on the HTC site for the current model.
thx
I'm gonna keep this thread alive for the next 3 days, then it will be closed and cleaned up!

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Note LTE Detective Case?

Samsung Galaxy Note Korean Version SHV E160S clears FCC
https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas...e=N&application_id=977164&fcc_id='A3LSHVE160S
This FCC clearance is only validated with bluetooth communication.
If this is the Korean version why is it clearing with the FCC
if it is the Korean version? Maybe a just in case we decide to release in the US?
Does this imply as has been speculated as well that the Samsung Galaxy Note Korean version will have LTE? And compatibility with AT&T LTE? Will there be incompatibility with the Samsung Exynos processor and LTE, so it will include the Qualcomm's Snapdragon S3? I personally prefer the Exynos as it tests better then the Qualcomm.
------------------------------
As well another version US(?) GT-i9220 only HSPA+(only as if that was crazy slow, haha) cleared the FCC:
https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas...=N&application_id=258095&fcc_i d='A3LGTI9220'
--------------------------------
Tired of these games by the carriers and manufactures!
I just want a clear answer is AT&T getting a LTE version of the note
within the next 3 months? And if not will the Korean version have LTE compatibility
with AT&T LTE? And when will the Korean version be released?
--------------------------------
Any other detectives work shared appreciated?
Please no speculation without some facts as there is plenty of that already.
Thanks

The Note came out in EU in the beginning of NOV, add 8 months to that for the release date in the US
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
I can't imagine at&t releasing a non lte note now that they launched the skyrocket. I've been wrong before...
I think the official ATT version will have LTE and it will arrive sometime after it's released in Korea. I'd earlier anticipated the USA release as before mid December but time will tell.
I almost bought an imported unlocked Note last week but when Newegg didn't have it in stock I decided to wait and if there is news shortly about an LTE Note I think I'll hold off a little longer.
I do hope the LTE version has an even bigger battery and comes out of the box with ICS...
Brian
I'll defiantly buy an AT&T LTE if it comes out. I can handme down my UK Note to my mom & get her on an unlimited dumbphone plan.
I would buy an Note if it Ran on AT&T and had HSPA+ and AT&T's upcoming flavor of LTE.
hello there... i'm new to the site but found this post while Googling for details on the Korean version of the Note. i'm actually getting mine tomorrow, most likely. I also have an iPhone with AT&T in the US. i'm also going to the US in a couple days for work. if there's something you'd like me to try out with the Note, let me know.
You're getting the Korean version of the Note?
I think what a lot of us would like to know is if the Korean version will support T-Mobile's 3G data bands. I've personally got a very favorable plan, and don't want to ditch it--but really want the Note.

@ meanhoe:
Thanks for your generous offer.
Please can you let us know if your Korean Note works with AT&T's LTE,
does it have NFC,
and if you feel comfortable the cost you paid(subsidized or unsubsidized)?
yes it supports NFC. i'm having some issues getting the APN to work on my AT&T acct.
This should be well known/easy, but it's not. Please correct me where I'm wrong.
Everything I've been able to find tells me T-mobile 3g operates on 1700/2100 bands. This may be dependent on region. (so one area uses 2100, one area uses 1700)
This is not the same as AT&T.
SK Telecom operates on the UMTS 2100 band. So there MIGHT be compatibility with T-Mobile here. But my fear is it's only partial compatibility, so an $800 phone might work at full speed in only half the US T-mobile areas. If there's a handy map to point out what bands are used where, I'd appreciate it.
So I think, on AT&T, your SK Telecom note will be able to connect GPRS and EDGE. But not 3g. If you get a T-mobile SIM, you might be able to connect, depending..
t-mobile 1700
You're close, T-Mobile 3g requires BOTH 1700 and 2100 to work. It downloads on 2100 and then uploads on 1700. It MUST make a FULL cycle or T-Mobile will assume that your phone is unable to connect on 3g and bump you down to edge.
So, meanhoe, you could toss in a T-Mobile sim and boot. If you get 3g, that would be great, but more likely you will only get edge. Then you could go to your frequencies/bands menu and turn on 1700 and see if you can get 3g then. But the people that have tried had to do a factory reset when it didn't work, so that doesn't sound like fun.
Thanks for your help meanhoe!

Importing from korea the LTE version
Does anybody know how to import the Galaxy Note LTE SHV-E160S from Korea ?
I search everywhere.... but since I don't speak Korean it makes it more conplicated !!!!
Or if anybody sells it somewhere ? (...like before christmass!!!!)
Thanks
I would like to know this too, where can I import/buy one?
Korean LTE in 800 MHZ frequency range, AT&T runs in 700MHZ
From what I have read the Korean GNote wil not support AT&T USA LTE.
I may be wroing here but ....
at least one thing for sure, my SK-Telecom Galaxy Note LTE does not connect to 3G network for neither T-Mobile nor AT&T.
LTE is not covered in my area, so couldn't test on that.

Deciding between T-Mobile, AT&T, & International Unlocked Note 4

Which variant of the Note 4 should I buy? I live in the states, but don't use the LTE coverage, but would be great to future-proof my device. I travel around the globe at times. I would rather have the warranty in the states than having a warranty belonging to some other country that I never travel to. If I had to go between the T-Mobile and AT&T version (obviously Unlocking these devices will incur an additional fee), which one should I buy? What about the International version? What are your thoughts. Please let me know. Thank you.

T-Mobile give you free Wifi calling, international texts and data, $.20 international calls if you can't get on Wifi, plus free texts and voicemail in the air through Go-Go. That's why I'm getting it.
Thanks for the information. I too am considering T-mobile and just signed up for their test-drive phone.

The previous answers seem to be talking about using a T-Mobile Note 4 and getting T-Mobile service. Your question's about which device would be the most versatile used both in the U.S. and overseas. Definitely go with international version. Samsung's UK site shows it supports both AT&T and T-Mobile's LTE bands as well as additional international bands neither of the U.S. phones support.
While you may be able to use a AT&T Note 4 on T-Mobile and vice versa their radios are optimized for the networks they are designed to be used on. I'm in an AT&T VoLTE market and can use it on my Note 3. A friend here using a T-Mobile N3 on AT&T can't using the same APN.
My current Note 3 is my first carrier phone out of a half dozen over four years so I have a lot of Samsung international device experience. I've only used them on AT&T and have no interest in T-Mobile as a carrier. They've performed fine on AT&T. But none of them got the same level of connectivity and data speeds as friends with AT&T phones when tested from the exact same locations. In the year I've had my AT&T Note 3 I've never had a network connectivity problem. With my international phones they'd occasionally lose connectivity and I'd have to reboot them to get them back on the network. Like when turning them on when landing at destination after a flight; they couldn't find the network on their own when moving from one AT&T network design (they're different by region through acquisition) to another.
I'm typing this on an international 3G N10.1-14. 90+% of the time I have no network issues and it works brilliantly overseas. Going with an international device is always safer than a carrier device because Samsung's international radios are generic. Every carrier's device has its radio optimized for their specific network. If you read the forums where people are using T-Mobile (and even Canadian phones) on AT&T it's not all peaches and cream. My recommendation is to go with an EU international Note 4 because of its generic support for a ton of global bands. I'd avoid Asian phones because their bands are very different as is the pre-installed s/w.
Good luck.
Thanks for a very careful and thorough explanation. Are there any ebay sellers selling the UK Note 4 version? How should I go about adding warranty? Squaretrade?

I'd stay away from eBay. Most LTE Samsung devices sold there are Asian. The dollar's exceptionally strong right now. I'd buy it from handtec.co.uk if I were you. In fact, if I wasn't getting the Note 4 for free because I'm on Next I'd buy my Note 4 from Handtec too. You can even get it in bronze and be the first on your block. Converted from GBP it's currently $806 including two-day FedEx shipping; that's cheaper than AT&T's $826 without tax. Because you're buying a UK phone in the UK Samsung's 24 month UK warranty is intact. You'll have to pay to send it there if it needs service but it's better than nothing. I had a UK SGS2 that had a cracked bezel and Samsung UK was very accommodating in repairing it. I'd get SquareTrade anyway and they'll cover an imported UK phone. The UK is also one of the first region's to receive updates so that's a plus too.
Seems like Clove is able to take off the region-lock whereas Handtec is unable to. Do the UK LTE Note 4's support T-Mobile's Band 12. Seems like I just want as many bands as possible as you never know when you want to switch to another US Carrier.
I'm currently using an MVNO (PureTalk) that relies on AT&T's network; currently using an unlocked T-Mobile Note 2 in Mint Condition, soon to be sold.
I do see how the European Model N910F is more versatile and at the same time, most expensive if purchased in the states (~$1300) compared to the Korean LTE Variants and Hong Kong Exynos (910U) Variant. The T-Mobile units are available online for $~750.

[Q] Using Droid Turbo Verizon Model in the UK

As you may have heard the Droid Turbo and Turbo Maxx is not coming to Europe.
I am thinking about buying one from eBay and using it in the UK.
Will The 4G LTE work in the UK ?
GSM arena says Droid Turbo uses LTE Cat 4 (Bands 2, 3, 4, 7, 13), also confirmed on Motorola website.
I use EE network in the UK, and I've been reading that EE uses bands 3 and 7
What is the significance of "Cat 4" ?
I'm assuming that LTE will work just fine as Droid Turbo does use bands 3 and 7 but can someone confirm whether this is the case ?
Also will I need to buy an unlocked model ?
Thank you
i use the Droid turbo in Italy
we use the same 4 and 7 band lte.
Cat4 means Category 4 150 mb in downlod and 50 mb in upload
the Verizon Droids are unlocked from factory and works with all sim cards.
in Us is prohibited to sell locked phones with operators.
so it will work in UK

GSM arena says Droid Turbo uses LTE Cat 4 (Bands 2, 3, 4, 7, 13), also confirmed on Motorola website.
I use EE network in the UK, and I've been reading that EE uses bands 3 and 7

Moto Maxx XT1225 has LTE bands 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 17 . ("Official"specs do not show LTE band 5, but it's there.) Bootloader can be unlocked, phone can be rooted. We have TWRP recovery, and we're about to get CM12.
You can buy on EBay or Swappa. $650 -$735. New.
Comes with 64 GB internal storage and ballistic nylon back with Kevlar underneath. All the hardware of all the Quark phones is identical with the differences being storage and back covers.
If you don't care about rooting, running custom software then either Droid Turbo XT1254 or Moto Maxx XT1225 would do for your purposes. If you do care, then Moto Maxx.

Did you have to do anything special with your soft/hardware to get the droid turbo working? I´m talking about getting a phone and internet connection.

no
the phone will work out of the box without doing nothing
the only problem is LTE with Wind and Tre that will not work everywhere, but only where band 7 has coverage
if u have Tim or Vodafone u will have LTE in every place where is available.

Not 100% but think there's only 2... India, European, UK etc all have same model number then there's the Chinese version.... by the looks of ad and then not replying I'd assume it's the Chinese version.
so you think that 1 is ok? or skip it??
if it is chinese model any good or skip it?

I bought the Realme X2 Pro 256GB/12GB supposedly Global/EU version, live in Orange County, CA, and on Android 10 C24 update using the T-Mobile network. When i go to Settings->About Phone under 'Model' i see "RMX1931".
I just updated to C24 and same problems as posted here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/realme-x2-pro/help/how-to-to-android-9-colouros-6-android-t4071317
and my rant/venting here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/realme-x2-pro/help/downgrade-realme-ui-to-color-os-realme-t4080299
The thing with this phone is that nothing is clear on what is working or what should be working with T-Mobile network, in my area at least. I can tell you though that besides the bugs/issues on the links above, this also does not work with this phone in my area using T-Mobile:
-No VoLTE
-No Wifi Calling
-No 4g while on a call(could be related with no VoLTE due to the missing bands on the phone)
Also on the T-Mobile network, on my previous phone, HTC 10 unlocked global version, i had wifi calling and 4g when on a call working - and i find that ridiculous that on a 5+year old model phone these both things worked and on a "high spec" 2019 model phone like the Realme X2 Pro none of those things are working and yes i know the X2 pro is meant to be used in other parts of the world, like china and india but still, when you sell a "global" phone(not priced cheap @ $500 imho) it should have all those 'basic' functions, like wifi calling, at the minimum! i bought at my own risk i know, so im paying the price now:crying::crying:
if you are willing to switch providers like maybe Verizon or ATT maybe you can have better luck with this phone with all the "basic" functionalities.
i was about 75% sure of getting rid of this phone and now im like 99% sure of getting rid of it. You interested? lol
btw, i bought this exact one from this seller: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Realme-X2-...hash=item34211a23a8:m:mS2Nl-L-Htood4wYaECLYCw
dam ebay!!
ok they finaly said its india version is that any good or skip it?

i bought X2 pro phone about 1 month ago and if i was going to do this all over again i would i would go for the Xiaomi: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Xiaomi-Mi-...hash=item341aea54d9:m:mH_wyne-_SXAdmrXP7eck1g
before i bought anything it was between the X2 Pro and the Xiaomi, same price, but i went for the X2 Pro because of the faster snapdragon 855+ processor and more ram. I dont really care for the crazy 108MP camera(s). But if you do your research for the Xiaomi, i believe VoLTE, wifi calling, and 4g while on call, all work with the Xiaomi on the T-Mobile network.
Good luck buddy!
anyone who bought the 12 gig model that is the GOOD model for usa tmobile/att etc where did you get it? if you can link me to it thanks
anyone order this exact 1 from this seller? and if so what model is it? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Realme-X2-P...r=442520443345

If your not bothered about the camera which is the main selling point of the Xiaomi mi note 10 then the only decent point is the large battery... everything else is worse then the X2 Pro... Unfortunate that your having issues with networks as I have WiFi calling etc on my European version using ID sim which is a virtual network on three UK and working perfectly.
EDIT: Just read your rant and the other thread and can honestly say I have no issues with speaker being to loud during a call and zero issues with mic. I didn't have them on Color OS and I've been running the Realms UI c23 from the India site since 30th without the issues... installed c24 from UK site today and I've had nearly 3h calls today without any loud or mic issues.

LIke i said on my other rant, maybe i got a bad one from a bad batch:crying: which sucks because 30day policy expired from the ebay seller and i dont think i can return(ill double check anyways). And yes, the Xiaomi has larger battery also and yes i would of have ignored the slower porcessor etc. if it meant "normal" functionality on the phone with VoLTE, wifi calling, etc. all functioning - i would prefer a working phone than dumb issues and missing basic functionalities etc. MY2C i guess.
But like i said before, when i got the phone new with Color OS 6 Android 9, the earpiece/handset during voice calls volume was working "ok" at a tolerable level and i could be fine with the mic issue, having to enable speaker mode and then disable during call, i wouldnt have mind that at all. That is the reason why i would like to go back to Android 9 but i have no idea how - or im too dumb to do it ....still doing research of how i can go back.
ok got phone Fleabay SWORE it was GSM Model only but on side of box says GSM:850/900/1800 WCDMA1/2/3/4/5/6//8/19 LTE TDD BANDS 34/38/39/30/41 LTE FDD 1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/17/18/19/20/26/28 model number rbs9x225in..... so what region etc is that?
how do i get fastboot installed and configured? i havent had to use that in 500 years
fastboot flashing unlock in fastboot that does nothing? i checked my devices is there
i got fastboot working see,s my device but when i put the code he says fastboot flashing unlock when i did that it seems fastboot doesnt know the command or something?
