Apps that work on Nook Touch - Nook Touch Themes and Apps

Hi, After rooting my Nook Touch I've been trying to find apps that work. It made sense to me if there was a sticky making it easier to play with our new toys so hopefully a mod will stickie this.
I haven't tried any of these yet but Aruangra said they work with Nook Touch:
Opera Mini (There are zoom buttons !. But it cannot access the local host (192.168.x.x))
Opera Mobile (It can access the local host)
Dictionary.com
NewsRob
Kindle
Documents to Go
Dropbox
InstaFetch
Aldiko
ASTRO file manager
SpeedTest.net
PG Calculator
BuzzBox RSS
Evernote
Moon+ Reader (The physical buttons can also change pages !!! and every page is refreshed. No more ghosting issue)
ADW Launcher (Maybe the only launcher that can change background color of Drawer)
Advanced Task Killer (a Must have)
Button Savior (a Must have)
NookColor Tools (a Must have)
Superuser (a Must have)
Rev01 says these work:
working (on restore)
Titanium Backup
Read it later (Pro)
ElectroDroid
RootExplorer
Terminal Emulator
Wifi Analyzer
Permissions Denied
Samba Filesharing
ShoppingList Plus
Wuala
Autostarts
XDA (Premium) (some threads are empty)
Tebra says these games work:
Crimson Fields
Andoku
Four in a Row HD
apeine:
Tried some, but most of them has some level of ghosting:
Working so far:
- Klondike
- Reversi free
- Nemo picross
- GObandroid (to play Go! - very good)
- Super Sudoku
- Klondike free
- Dark nova (used to love Space Trader on my old Treo)
- Repligo and ezPDF. Both allows annotation and bookmarking. Give it a try!

Repligo doesn't work, or at least it didn't work for me. It installed, but every time I tried to open a .pdf it would flash the menu to accept the license and then disappear.
ezPDF reader seemed to work just fine.

Sync with Google calendar
One of the major reasons for getting my Nook Touch was to be able to sync with google calendar. I was very upset when I learned the ability to sync the calendar was random until now...
synker allows you to manually sync your calendar and mail.
I also have found that Jorte is a much nicer calendar/planner than stock. Both of these apps are free and available on Android market.

The greyscale screen on this takes me back to my old M105 palm pilot days! Just for nostolgia, it would be pretty interesting to see some of these old applications revived either through a palm pilot emulator, which does not exist, or developer-made applications inspired from palm applications. There use to be a whole ecosystem of palm pilot applications built for greyscale touch screens (in super-low resolution) with a poor refresh-rate in mind.

I had an M100 too, and the way that Palm soft was integrated is nowhere to be seen nowadays (not on standard IOS, Android, etc), maybe only on WebOS. If there was such a family of apps as in Pam, the nook would rock. I'll second Starbux on his request.

I'd be the third for a Palmish app. I loved my Treo PDAs. I had some programs to this day I'm unable to find a good replacement for.

Hi kaznelson,
could you explain what's the "N2E text color fix" in this version?
Thanks

White text on a white background is corrected (in preferences - seekbars).

Hi! I've found this post looking for references to my apps, I'm the developer of Four in a Row HD (it has its own thread here at XDA).
I didn't know about the Nook Touch till now, that's e-ink screen, isn't it? I wonder how it looks there. I suppose choosing the "Plastic" skin (no textures, just vector graphics) and disabling animations in the options menu would fit fine.
I'm really curious to know how it looks in e-ink, could anyone send me or upload a picture or screenshot? Thanks, and enjoy the game!

google Talk and words with friends
anyone try to use either of these apps? Talk loads but only part of keyboard is shown, so you cannot send messages. my contact list shows up and i can send single words to people as long as the words dont include the letters that are missing.
i loaded words with friends and when i try to load a game or invite someone to play, it says there is a network error. maybe there is an easy fix to this?
other apps that seem to work.
sense analog clock widget
crossword light
google maps

Here is a screenshot of your game on the nook touch.
As you can see, it's a lite difficult to see difference between black player and the not used places on the 16 gray level of the e-ink display.

Thanks! It looks playable, but I'll look into adding a high contrast theme, not just with colors but with textures/patterns. 16 gray levels, OK xD

Thanks, Mocelet2000. I know that B&W tablets are not a "growing" market for Android apps, but your concern shows that maybe it is viable.

No problem, fortunately my game is not about fancy animations, so fixing the contrast in red pieces (haha, sorry, that's black for you) might be easy.
I have a 10" Honeycomb tablet, it is heavy and has too much brightness at night (even at minimum settings). The capacitive screen makes it impossible to write notes or have some precission when drawing. Of course, it's great for all the other things.
A lightweight tablet, with high contrast screen of about 7 inches, easy on the eyes like e-ink (a bit more refresh rate wouldn't hurt...), with resistive stylus, may be even cheap to make and would be the ultimate notepad on the go.
EDIT: a sneak peak of the new theme "Naughts and crosses" designed for black and white screens It will appear in the next update of the game in the Market. Since I don't have a Nook Touch, the following screenshot is actually a screenshot from my mobile phone displayed in my ebook reader (quite weird testbed, haha, but it's closer to reality than photoshop).

Four in a Row HD with enhanced grayscale screens support in the Market now, make sure you're installing version 3.3 at least.
Recommended preferences for the Nook Touch in options menu:
- Choose the "Naughts and crosses" skin.
- Disable animations.
- Check "solid black background" box in case the new gray stripes looks bad.
Other skins might look better now also, specially the default metal skin which has textured face. Moreover, the striped default background helps differentiating holes and chips.
If you've found this update useful, please rate and comment in the Market and/or the official thread at XDA, thanks so much!

Mocelet2000, Thanks for helping us out with the new skins. It's great to see developers supporting such an atypical device such as our Nooks. Ryan

Thanks for the report! It seems the Nook does not clear the canvas as it's supposed to do before each call to the drawing routine.
Anyway, now I paint a big black solid rectangle before anything else, should do the trick. Version 3.3b in the Market now ^^

Overdrive (public library ebooks) works

Kaiser Android - List of Apps that work w/ QVGA

I've been recently impressed with the latest android builds, if I wasn't already in the past. Though, the biggest issue now I have is the resolution we boot in. We need to boot Android in a closer resolution to the current native Android phones in order for apps to look right. The draw backs are with a higher res are: Text is a little blurry(due to our native res), and the UI is a tad bit small for our fingers. A positive is 90% of the apps fit on the screen. Less force closes I presume.
So I decided to boot android in QVGA, added 240x320 and lcd.density=128 to my default.txt..I'm using xrom based off firmware 1.5. I was suprised how clear the text in linux was and the overall look is a lot more crisp and proper for our screen size. Everything seems to be formatted for the screen but most apps..the core of android looks good. This is where we need to post what apps you can find on the market that fit and look good in QVGA. Might be pointless until an official android QVGA phone comes out...but this is a start. Most apps I've tried actually launch..they just are not formatted for qvga or don't scale down.
Free Apps that work with QVGA:
-Market
-Dialer
-Calender
-Google Maps (not streetview)-I think we have to boot 480x320 for that.
-Browser
-keyboard
-IM
-terminal emulator
-Neocore
-Java App
-ACV(comic book reader)
-Alarm clock
-Task Panel X
-Google Talk
-Messaging
-MixZing Lite Media Player (large widget doesn't fit)
-Gallery( Partially works)
-Youtube app (some youtube videos work, but some don't)
-App manager
-file managers and browsers (astro and OI)
-smspopup
Apps not usable under QVGA..
-Gmail - Works when viewing whole emails, but email tabs dont fit
-Music - Works but graphics dont fit
-Weather Wiget
-ilock 2.0
- Most Sound boards and games I've tried..for obvious reasons ( the java app could hold us untill more qvga support)
Also.. apps that support scrolling usually will be usable on our screen.
Apps that dont support scrolling or side scrolling dont fit..
Besides apps.. I'm actually able to watch a qvga mp4 video without extreme lag.
Help me find more apps that work with qvga(for now) list em here if you found apps that work or don't work under android QVGA.
*Reserved for future use*

I realize that..with 428x320 most of the apps looked good. It's just the overall look of android looks better i think in qvga..even the text in linux is readable. pop-up notifications in android fit the screen better, text in android is cleaner and bigger, smaller text is readable. I can now watch videos in qvga without getting heavey lag. 3D apps like neocore scale-down to the resolution. I even got a Youtube video to play for the 1st time.
Hi,
Is there a way to get the lock screen to show the whole screen using the QVGA size? it does not show me the bottom row of on screen buttons, also I love the clearity and sharpeness it gives when using the 240x320 setting
Sincerely,
Christopher

[Theme] [QVGA Landscape] [Standard 6.1|6.5] Smartphone Revitalize Sliding Panel Theme

Hi guys,
So I'm one of those guys still living in the dark age of Windows Mobile Standard. I don't see many good themes posted for good ole non-touchscreen phones, so I thought I'de give it a shot.
Critiques are encouraged!
More information to come...
Requirements
Windows Mobile Standard 6.1 or 6.5
QVGA Landscape device
Installation
After unzipping, look at the folder names for instructions
.
i have broke my last smartphone a while ago (and now all my smartphones are died)
but imo your theme is perfect and nice... very cool text on screen (great chars, slim font)
i love the themes without useless icons ^^
maybe you could add a titanium slider (or only an underlined graphic to the active panel)
the page counter is a little "oldish" maybe you could redesign it and move to another position
and for least a thing (i think is impossible): make the long titles of panels sticking/sliding to read the whole text in it (e.g. in the calendar panel you could read only the first part of the appointment infos, if u get it orrizontal sliding you could read it all like the music info panels) but for me this is impossible
so now i haven't a device to test it, but i like, nice job! thanks to sharing

are you still living in the dark age of Windows Mobile Standard? i wish that times return for me
i miss my old winmo NONtouch... actually i hate to have to tap with my finger on these little display (e.g. i was texting on my htc wings 50sms/hour , now my frineds joke me cuz it seem that i cannot write in a correct italian language...)

Thanks for the compliments!
I'm working on adding a titanium slider right now to see how it looks, but I designed it to not require a slider. Text on the currently selected panel is white and text on unselected panels is transparent.
I'm still trying to figure out what (if anything) I'm going to do with the page counter.
As for the long titles extending off the page... well that was sort of the goal. It was inspired by the Zune HD and Windows Phone 7 interface. 99% of the time it shows enough text for you to understand, and in the rare case you do need to see more you can always click it. I think horizontal scrolling/sliding for long text would be really cool, but I have no idea (yet) how to make that happen. If anyone know a way to do this, let me know.
i see...
the orizzontal sliding for the title is a "higher sky" and personally the cropped title text is cool
and i love the zunehd inspi.
apps and web apps panels are fantastic
(a suggestion, for the counterpage maybe you could remove the numbers and left only the arrows, white for the next page, transparent if no page avalaible)
all my compliments
I created a version with a slider. If any smartphone users make it in here and would like me to post it just let me know.
Hi gtg456x. I got a new touch phone recently because my contract for the BJ2 was up. I've always loved the performance of Sliding panel plugin, and I can't wait to try this theme. It looks uncluttered, so I think I can finally put some wallpapers that didn't used to work on the standard icon-filled theme. Thanks for sharing and for reviving my interest in the BJ2 phone
this is an awesome theme....it's too bad that I don't know how to apply anything that isn't a .cab file!
I know your probably thinking I'm stupid, but I have no idea of how to install this theme onto my blackjack 2. It looks so great, and I would really like to use it on a daily basis. Please Help!!!

With a black background and this theme is terrific. Almost Zune-esque. Thanks! Here's a screen
how to install a certain part?
can u please point me the way how to install the files that are in...
Optional images for link panels (you will have to create your own to match your links)
i have managed to install all the rest but need some help.
Now if you would port the landscape cpr to a portrait cpr, I would be happy, because I wouldn't have to do it myself (although I made myself a similar theme a couple of months ago, but I didn't release it to the public )...
like it about to put it on my jack

Wasn't expecting this thread to get revived. Shouldn't be too hard to make it into a cab file for those who are having trouble.

i know you should had posted this in the windowsmobile standard section you would had got so many people here instead of windowsmobile touch screen section .Its mostly a touch screen section then for both touch and type of phones.

is it possible to change te resolution? because i saw that the theme was made for 320x240? is it a quick fix or not?
can you help me out?
thx in advance
awesome, iLike it!
I've installed on my Samsung C6625 it works but there's some problem:
The words was cut in the right side, it's not centered
Also, can you tell me how to make a new link such as garmin and other apps?
Thanks

[THEME] Lacuna42 for Throttle Launcher - DEVELOPMENT ENDED

After a lot of work and testing Lacuna 3.0 by myself and Trekfan is reborn as Lacuna 42.
You can view a video review of the theme by actionboy here
This theme is released as is, there will be no significant updates to it following this release.
I will however offer a service whereby if you are willing to make a donation I will help tailor the theme to suit you, changing layout, adding additional weather detail, adding additional pages etc.
I have given up a lot of time to produce this theme following its original concept by trekfan who has gone the way of the little green robot so if you like my work and cannot donate at least please say thankyou so I know my work is appreciated and I will continue to come up with new ideas for as long as there is a need.
This Throttle Launcher theme requires version 1.2.1 to be installed and supports full screen 480x800 wallpaper in jpg format.
The homepage from top to bottom features :
a hideable interactive taskbar.
to activate/hide press on the battery icon.
you can toggle the bluetooth wifi and sound profile from the taskbar by just pressing them.
two sizes of clock accessible from the throttle config window.
next appointment accessible by pressing on the clock itself.
the blue icon to the right of the clock is programable
you can assign any quick launch app to through throttle config
notifications for new texts missed calls and emails
current weather condition icon complete with temp and location
app launcher page activated by pressing the icon in the bottom right when on the homepage
The friends page starts with your favourite contacts followed by and add and remove option followed by a full list of all remaining contacts.
The text page shows the last 20 messages recieved with the newest at the top.
The messages page shows similar for a specified email account.
CHANGELOG :
03 June 2011 :
Due to Google screwing with their weather api I have had to modify the theme to use the current condition text instead of the originally numbered icons from the registry. There are several new conditions for which I do not have icons so I have for now recycled existing ones. When a fuller set is made available I will update again.
Please download and enjoy.
The below screenshots will show you in detail what can be changed in the theme via throttle config.
Screen 08 & 09 show the default programs catagorised under Objects.
The majority of settings don't really need any explanation
the clock size is either normal or large
If you change the default sms app from tmail please untick sms default
do not change sms param as this is required by ther program
only one mail account is used in the theme so ensure only one is selected
Screen 10 Weather
Here you can specify the location
units in centigrade or fahrenheit
autoupdate if required should be ticked
if autoupdate is required please provide a period in minutes for the update to be performed
Screen 11 Background / Text
The select path option is used to specify wallpaper.
There is an initial choice of two dark and one light background in the default folder where the theme is installed.
The Background colour is used to specify either lgiht or dark by selecting
0 for dark or
255 for light
The font colour should then be set to the opposite.
under no circunstances should you change anything in the section Here Be Monsters as it will cause the theme to break.
This post is reserved for additional tips tricks patches and updates.
Did u watch on my wallpaper i posted you? I think this is TL problem, but in other devices it is not problem, si idk. I just have to use the one color wallpaper.
Anyway, i love Lacuna
I thought I had replied to you on the development thread, it is the same for me and I cannot understand why when other more complex wallpapers I have used since all work fine. It is something odd with the blending between the black and blue?
And thankyou for your kind comments
I tried blend between the red -black, but there are stripes too, anyway, i found nice wallpaper and it made lacuna more awesome for me So stripes aren't problems for me anymore . (I finally see the top bar transparent )
But, if I wanna let this theme on mobile, it should be more "settings friendly". What I mean? I mean, if I want connect to net via wifi, and in my location isn't only one wifi signal, i have to go to menu, scroll down to windows/samsung setings and there i can connect wifi where I want. So, what about do it like this: If u touch wifi on/off in top bar, it will be on/off wifi, but if u hold that icon for a while, it will launch wifi settings . Do I want a much? I know, it have to be usable on every phone, but owners can redirect it to their own locations (i mean the scripts)
I know I am annoying
Your not, your request is valid but there is no long press in TL see here.
I could change things so it will either toggle or open an action but that would require a major rewrite
Hello,
Have anyway to put an youtube video about this theme?
Thanks.
I dont have a way of recording it myself no but if there is anyone that can please PM me and I will send you my email address so you can send me the video to upload.
nice theme
love the theme, so sick.. but when you go to send a text and have to deploy the keyboard, TL always has to reset! major flaw cause some of the TL themes are so cool, just NO stability
Sorry to hear that, I wouldnt be using TL if it did that myself.
Are you using the latest version 1.2.1 from within the TL forums?
Also are you using the theme as a today plugin?
If you are try disabling it and running as standalone.
Of course, it could just be an issue with the rom you have been using if all the above is correct.
yes 1.2.1... and if i use it as a today plugin, it has to restart, and if i use it as a standalone, the "unnexpected error please try running again" pops up
hmmm? hardware acceleration disabled?
no, it just doesnt want to go in landscape mode, i have a TP2...
This is a portrait only theme and if hardware acceleration is enabled, try disabling. It isnt needed for this theme anyway
no i know its a portrait only theme, just when i go to slide my phone keyboard out to text, it puts my text program into landscape cause it has to, then i send and close the keyboard then exit out of the text program to find its restarting.. i even tried messing with the regedit to make my phone never go into landscape mode, but its a pain and no fun and eventually fails
I used to have a wizard and a kaiser and this didnt happen on either device when the keyboard was deployed. This is either a rom or phone specific issue. Afraid I can't help with that sorry.
yeah no its all good... there needs to be a way where there really isnt a landscape mode it just projects on the landscape screen the same way it would on the portrait way, it would look CRAPPY but still be able for you to do it...
and like this theme and the wp7 v2 fireslave, its cool cause of the seperate messaging hubs, i like that ALOT! and CHT doesnt really have that, and im trying to get someone to make that.. i cant code anything or do all that jazz
That is actually a good idea, creating the default landscape pages using the same code as it would stop it from crapping up when people use autorotate.
looks like there may well be a v2 coming soon

[Icons][WIP] Social Icon Pack (based on Symbian Anna)

We (myself and energizerpanda) are proud to present you an icon pack (150 x 150 px) based on Symbian Anna. Some of the icons were taken from a system dump, and some of them were self-made.
The current pack has several icons, but feel free to post which icons do you miss, and we will try to create them.
Changelog:
05/07/11 - First release !
17/07/11 - Added icons for: Evernote, eBook Reader, Winamp, Cozi, Pocket Informant, Waze, Folder Organizer
Screenshot:
Download link: http://db.tt/EeusEUe
Don't forget to express your opinion !
Post Reserved
Looks great, gonna check them out when I get home from work!
Very nice icon pack! I searched the theme you based it on & downloaded those as well. Going through them to see which I'd use normally & which more important (to me) ones are missing.
Going to use some generics now (generic Twitter instead of Plume), but can you provide icons for:
eBook Reader (I use 3 readers, so anything you'd like for now)
Cozi (attaching image)
Pocket Informant
Waze
Since I don't see good generics for them. Very happy to add these to my icon collection since I tend to change icons every few months!
Edit: Regarding attachments, please use the the 3 little loops tings on Cozi (not the text), and likewise the little car for Waze. Actually, for Waze, may be better modeling off the icon I see on the appbrain page (http://www.appbrain.com/app/waze:-community-gps-navigation/com.waze)
We will update the pack as soon as they're done.
Sorry but how do I install these?
Copy the icons to your phone and download Desktop Visualizer from the market.
Thanks for sharing
Here are the requested icons by polstein.
I tested them on my phone and they look fine.
For the moment I can't add them to the pack but you will get them soon enough!
How can i resize them to 72x72(HDPI) without losing its quality ?

A number of different ways. Most common as mentioned is Desktop Visualizer. That's a widget that lets you pick an app/shortcut & use a custom icon. It also has an advantage that you can have it point to an generically named icon - then you can replace the icon, reboot & DV will show the new image. Very useful if you change icons every couple of months for fun!
(also why you might see me on several threads requesting the same icons over & over again
An easier way might be to use an app called Folder Organizer, which also allows you to change icons & text labels.
Advanced people can modify the apk of the install & change the icon, but has some drawbacks that go along with it. But it's also the only way I know of to change an icon everywhere (like in recent apps lists).
--
I see the new icons I asked for, they look very nice. I especially like the textured background on Informant. How many icons did you want to crank out? I always hate overloading designers, but if you're willing I'll keep handing out requests!
Keep on requesting. Don't forget to thank energizerpanda for his hard work. I am only with the organization and researching.

My progress so far:
WinAmp - Done
Folder Organizer - Done
EverNote - Done
@polstein - You can edit the post and remove them from your list.
Updated with new icons. Check first post for download links.
Looking good, downloading now!
can someone please make an lp pack out of these?
thanks for the hard work, always loved the anna icons
@cavihit - We're working on making a LauncherPro pack but we have to add more icons.
Latest icons:
Please help me with your opinion about these icons because I need to know if I can add them to the pack.
Icons look good! So far the only one I'm not thrilled with is Waze (more because of their cartoony look that doesn't match the rest of the set).
Something I noticed last night when I replaced some of the generic icons in favor of the correct app icon: Some of the original generics look better anyway!
F'instance, I was using the 'carhome' icon instead of Waze, but I think I'm switching back to carhome.
Another example is generic Music vs Winamp (currently on Winamp). Still another is Calendar vs Informant (currently using Calendar!)
Now in a couple cases I needed the specific app (like Cozi, and there wasn't an eBook one).
Of course, best of all worlds for me is to have options & change them when the mood strikes
I'm making every icon for its specific app. (If you use the Calendar app then you should use the generic icon found in the pack)
I hope you all understand that I try to create icons that are not in the pack and not to replace the generic icons. (Only if requested)
@polstein - Thank you very much for your feedback. I'm gonna post new icons when finished so please test them and reply!

[IDEA] Real Plain Text Theme/Launcher

No icons, no wallpaper, no images of any kind. I've seen themes that used images of text to get the aesthetic down, which is still cool, but it seems like there's room for a launcher with a super tiny footprint that also looks sweet. Of course, if I've missed it, and this already exists, I'd love to be corrected.
Icons: plain text but could be include the ascii round of characters, maybe even the full unicode set?
Folders: Like any other asciicon. You could add a smaller ascii symbol to the lower right/left hand corner to signify it was a folder not a program if you really wanted. You could create a folder with ascii art.
Wallpaper: ASCII art. Not a photo thereof, actual ASCII. Would need the ability to alter color and perhaps alpha to avoid confusion with foreground.
Widgets: text output only. Input fields would be reminiscent of a terminal input. Associated buttons would be dealt with a la asciicons, with ascii symbols.
Customizability: on par with ADW or LP.
I'd pay for that ^. Would anyone else? I realize these days with super phones, live wallpaper and 3d carosels are more sexy, but there are a lot of hacked devices running froyo that are still light on specs and plain text can have a nice sharp retro appeal. It seems like there's a potential market there for an enterprising developer.
Is there a launcher whose theme engine could produce a plain text only setup? Would the footprint be significantly reduced by such a theme?
What this lacks in popularity, it makes up for unanimity. 100% in favor. An enterprising developer could just charge me and that one other guy who likes the idea a fortune each and still turn a profit! Any takers?
One last New Year's bump.
Hi,
I'm currently learning Android programming and studying Launcher2 code. In near future I will be starting a launcher which will have a pseudo-graphic text mode (remember Turbo Pascal?) with minimalist (16x16?) icons, some simple widgets, notepad/folders (which will work like resizable and stackable windows), and a commandline mode (can be configured to mimic either DOS or Linux, but with some builtin shortcuts and functions for Android usage). It doesn't have a name yet. I will certainly announce it on xda when any usable version will be finished and tested on at least a few devices.

Sounds interesting, I look forward to it. Are you gearing the text mode to have a super small footprint, or is it more for nostalgia's sake?

Mainly for nostalgia's sake and "I just want it on my phone so badly and no one did it before" sake, though I know few people who could use it. I wouldn't release the project open source but it will probably free for ever. I won't include all dos/linux commands, of course (keep it simple and not bloated), and i will simplify/shortcut some things for android usage (like, running apps from CLI just by their name, not any going-in-depths-to-system-folders stuff), though I shouldn't spoil everything already lol. Also I still have a 2.3.7 device...
I've found lightning launcher and it's the lightest weight launcher I've found. My 528mhz dinosaur actually feels snappy again after I pared down the options to it's most minimal setup. What's more there are lots of customizations available even for devices that aren't ancient.
It's not plain text, but it is light.
I've been looking for a theme like this for a long time, never found one. It would be cool to have a phone without all the aesthetics. Black screen with only text , or very small symbols.
