Depleting internal memory - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
I'm currently on Froyobread v21. I noticed that on my initial install that I had about 200+Mb of internal storage. I added some apps and games which are all installed on the SD card but my internal memory is now at 117Mb.
I understand that apps will leave some Mb's or Kb's on internal memory when transferred to SD but I calculated all the apps installed and I should still have about 180+Mb of internal storage.
I wiped the cache, dalvik cache but it keeps on depleting.
Any Ideas?
Oh, one other thing. I am not doing anything to my phone right now but the internal memory changes from 122Mb to 110Mb to 117.

Anyone? Please help...

Use a2sd+ script, install a2sd+ app, move dalvik cache to sd, but first of all partition your sd card

I guess app's data are also taking some of the internal memory.

/system is also taking some internal memory
so it's hard to have more internal storage unless you delete something in /system.

Anyway, 100Mb free is fine...

X8 have 512 MB of nand system+data+cache

But a OS can cost almost 400MB memory.

Thanks for looking into this guys!
Anyway, I checked all cache on the phone and to my surprise the new Market is taking 20+Mb of cache!
I deleted it and now I have a full 140 - 170Mb of free space. I just have to remember to clear the Market's cache.
Maybe this will help others having the same problem.
Thanks to all of you!

a2sd and phone memory HELP!!!

Hi everyone,
I have a sprint hero and I am using Fresh rom 2.0d... I am also using a2sd.
The Problem:
When I first flashed and had no apps installed my Phone memory read 101mb and I partitioned my 2gb memory card as: 1gb fat32, 800.8mb ext3, and 95.5mb swap.
I installed more than 71 apps and then the a2sd memory was 657.9mb (out of 800.8) {so we know that a2sd is working}, but my phone memory had lower to 49.4mb and decreasing even if i dont install any apps.
The Question?:
Can anyone tell me what is going on with my phone and phone memory? Is it normal that my phone memory has to be decreasing even if I am using a2sd or even if i dont install any apps?
Thank you so much community
p.s. I am a noob!!!!!
49 is pretty low, try clearing cache on the Browser and Market. Settings>applications>manage applications. Sort by size and clear cache on the Browser, market and albums. Also any application data is stored on the phones memory and not the sd card.
Now I have 61. All my cache is on my sdcard.... but I did deleted all cache and it cleared 5mb.
So you mean that all my apps are storing their information on my phone memory's and not on the partition of the sd card where they are installed?
thanks

APPS2SD: Apps are stored in both internal and SD?

I just installed apps2sd on a freshly wiped system. I'm pretty sure mine's working and tested it by installing Google Earth.
It did subtract around 20mb from the SD card secondary.
But it also subtracted it on the phones internal storage of around 20plus mb.
I rebooted to be sure, but it's still missing 20mb.
Is it normal that values are subtracted on both storage?
It's not normal as far as I know. It would defeat the purpose of Apps2SD.
Urgh. What have I done wrong?
I partitioned the SD until ext4 using Amon_RA 1.7
I wiped to factory settings and ext using Amon_RA 1.7
I flashed CM 5.0.6
then I wiped again to factory settings.
maybe I'm wrong, but what I have heard is that the app stores on SD card but cache of the app is stored on internal memory. what you are experiencing also happens to me when I install any app.
sstang2006: You're right. The data of the app is still store in internal memory from what I know .
Yup...the main data of the app is still stored on internal memory. Only the apk file and some other stuff is stored on the SD.
did you apply the app2sd?
setting > application > apply the app2sd
Its normal. Apps are installed on the SD card, but program DATA is still stored in the internal memory. i.e. apps2sd is literally "apps to sd card"
see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=646579
Yes Apps2SD is checked. Oh well, I guess Google Earth naturally takes a lot of the internal storage.
I just thought I would never have a problem with the internal storage decreasing in free space.
Thanks for the responses guys!
use CacheMate and clear your Cache....you'll get some internal memory back.... I use it only after using the market to dl/install apps as i've been told a lot of "data" can be used and never "cleared" when dl/installing from market....Give it a try wth right?

Apps2SD using both Internal and External memory

So I recently upgraded from Kang-o-rama beta to 1.2 Final SP2. While doing so I decided to wipe my data to get a clean start. Well before the wipe I had DT Apps2SD running perfectly. I had much of my 512mb ext partition filled with apps and only a very small fraction of my internal storage was used. I also still had Dalvik cache and cache on internal memory.
Now I have a new updated ROM with a clean slate (data and dalvik cache wiped). I got Apps2SD all set up and it seems as though it's working however it is still using quite a bit of internal memory. Now, I understand that app data and the symbolic links will still be on internal storage but the issue is that the space taken up on the ext partition and internal memory is just about the same ~70mb. I know the app data will not take up that much space. As before I updated and wiped my phone, the internal memory had only a fraction of it used when compared to the ext partition.
Any ideas as to what may be going on?
did you flash a2sd again? I'm not 100% sure but I think you have to flash that as well after the rom thanks to a user on here I got it somewhere in the dt thread, they shared the script where you don't have to flash it anymore after flashing a new rom so if you don't have that I think the problem may be that you might have to flash it again. Also check if your apps are going to your sd card and not your internal storage
If I am not mistaken, Kang-o-Rama is set up to run and configure apps2sd on first boot with an installer flag which is exactly what I did. Besides that I have already checked that Apps2sd is running through terminal commands as well run the reinstall command.
So apps are indeed being installed on the ext partition. My issue is that something is taking up a bunch of space in my internal storage, which naturally I thought was the apps.
Do I just have a really large Dalvik cache or something along those lines that could take up so much memory?

how many apps do you have installed? I can't say I'm 100% sure but it's possible that it's your dalvik. my damn dalvik cache is that big, i have no internal memory left about 20 mb ish i have so many apps installed so i just had to move dalvik over to sd as well. I have maybe a bit more than a hundred apps and some are big
edit: my ext partition is 512mb if it helps half of it is full with my apps
i think data apps is still being stored in the internal storage (like darktremor a2sd) unless its also being moved by default on kang-o-rama which i doubt but you can also move it to sd card though with minimum of class4 sd card requirement so you wont have speed issues. look it up you can do it through terminal emulator
My guess is that before you had also run 'a2sd cachesd' at some point. This moves all your dalvik cache over to the ext partition and just leaves the app data on internal memory.
Running this will clear up a substantial amount of internal space.

"Phone storage space is getting low"

I have 200mb of app storage free and both the internal and external SD cards have about 5 gigs free. I'm not low on storage space at all. Why does the phone keep telling me this and how can I stop it? I've tried wiping cache and dalvik cache.

Had the same issue a while ago, I just reflashed my ROM... lol went away..
Same problem
I have the same problem on my SGS. I get the notification even though I have 1.7gig free internal Storage, 0.9gig free usb storage and 2.8gig free on SD card.... WTF?
What's worse is that it's the same even when I flash a different rom.

[Q] Low internal memory even with ext enabled

I all, I do have all my apps installed in ext partition (and I'm sure of it, since I'm able to wipe weverything but the ext, apply new roms and find my apps already there).
I expected almost free internal memory, but I get the low memory warning (20MB and under...). I suspect that moving apps to ext doesn't clean internal memory. Is this correct? If so, how can I free some space? Should I delete apks manually from data?
Try entering this in Terminal Emulator:
su
lib2ext 1
Then reboot
Ok, I got 126MB of free space by moving libs. Thanks for the hint.
Anyway, when I try to move apps from sd to internal I got an Insufficient space error. I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling thos apps
How big is your ext partition? At least 512 MB is necessary. But the latest CM10 builds appear to require more than 768 MB, I'm using 1 GB in my ext partition.
I have 1GB ext partition on my card and had no problem with it.
