I do need testers on this device. Hit me up on IRC (irc.freenode.net) in #tiamat. If you're not familiar with IRC, use http://tiamat-dev.com/web-chat/ to log in to the channel.

Hey, the desire s needs an AOSP kernel. It runs on the same processor as this phone (MSM 8255), so maybe you can make one........

If someone can tell me how to reflash the CM7 kernel (in case wifi bug still exists), I'd be happy to test this out also.
Would I just reflash the CM7 nightly I want to run, as (afaik) the kernel is packaged with it?

Yep ... reflash the nightly and you will hav the cm kernel again
Sent from my Incredible S using XDA App

Ok, well 1.0.3 has fixed the wifi issue. This puts you 1 step ahead of CM right now, as in the latest nightly the kernel was updated and wifi was broken in the process .
It's 245am here, so I will try and write more tomorrow. Just wanted to report that wifi is working .

CM hasn't merged support for the saga (Desire S) in to their kernel yet, but the HTC source is out. I would love to add the device in with this series of kernels (and the lexicon -merge- when that source is out), but that isn't a project I can commit to without some testers or having the device.
If you're willing to test, let me know and I can work on it.

Yes i am, and not just me, there's a bunch of people dying to have an AOSP kernel for the CM7 port. Check this - you'll find many enthusiasts here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1166867

Hi Cayniarb
Count me in for Desire S kernel testing.

I would certainly be happy to test a Desire S kernel too. Using a stripped down Sense ROM right now because of the battery drain on the unofficial CM7 mod, but would love to switch to CM7 full time.
Have plenty of Linux experience and know my way around Android, ADB, fastboot / etc.
Cheers =)

Since this is quickly turning in to a Desire S thread...........
I have a built kernel for the device - but as I don't have it, I have no clue if it works. I'd rather not post a link for a test build like this publicly.
I have the code isolated in a branch away from the mainline (cm-like, really cm+ tbolt) branch for testing, but I see nothing that should make merging it in very difficult. Check it here: http://code.tiamat-dev.com/7x30/htc-kernel-msm7x30/commits/android-msm-2.6.35-saga
The best way to contact for testing is via IRC. If you're not familiar with it, I have a webportal for it setup on my site to make it easy: http://tiamat-dev.com/web-chat/

wonderful .

Can someone please tell me the difference between this kernel and the CM7 one?

Yes, I'll second this. Am running MIUI with Tiamat 1.0.4 and Vipermod to undervolt, setcpu down to 650/192mhz and running on conservative governor. Experiencing great battery life, full stability, and the rom still runs smooth. Amazing job!

basically with this we can now have some great stuff going on
1. CM6 will most likely fully support our phone now
2. we can have UV/OC kernels, which allow our cpu to be faster, while not using as much battery (theoretically)
3. whatever else the awesome devs out there can come up with
4. ???????
5. Profit (of course)

Do a quick Google search for Hyda kernel
Hydra kernels for 2.1 were great, undervolting increased battery life. There are also undervolt overclocked kernels as well from hyda.
If you are running 2.2 don't install a 2.1 kernel.
It is cool that the kernel source is out now, more goodies on the way!

While definitely good news, the bad news is that it's the kernel source from the first Froyo leak (7/27), not our current 8/1 version.
Will this help in any way to help fully unlock nand?

They might not have updated the kernel between the two versions.
My kernel-fu is weak, or this source blows. Probably the first.
I am merely disabling perflock and compiling. The kernel works, wifi works, and all that, but when the screen powers off, it comes back to a black screen with a lit white line at the top.

AOSP and AOKP based roms use the same Kernels but CM Based roms use different Kernels and will not work unless setup specifically for CM Roms.
This is 5.4 MB? Hmmm...need to see how it performs.
Tested this kernel. Overall snappy & fast with Ondemandx even at stock speeds. There is no bigmem support. This is very important for Nexus S due to low available memory. Screen colors look too yellow. This can be adjusted by user if Voodoo color is included. Inclusion of USB fast charge will give an added advantage.

I understand, looks like CM requires a kernel patch for this http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/23541/
I was unaware as it was tested on an aosp based rom
We made a decision here, we're not going to support CyanogenMOD officially.
We will update the OP accordingly, it's just not desirable to maintain 2 builds for 1 device. The kernel should be fully compatible with AOSP/AOKP, and will be the kernel bundled with the CrossBones rom.
If you wish to use this kernel on CyanogenMod, you may build a copy yourself using herring_zen_defconfig and setting CONFIG_FOR_CYANOGENMOD=y . Keep in mind unofficial builds won't be officially supported by us. Please when building an unofficial kernel ALWAYS SET CONFIG_ZEN_VERSION_CODE=0. While it may not have any affect now, it may affect some userspace apps.
The kernel source is located here: https://github.com/AndroidDeveloperAlliance/ZenKernel_Crespo
We also provide a custom prebuilt GCC toolchain you can use here: https://github.com/AndroidDeveloperAlliance/ZenKernel_ARCH_armv7a_compiler
Only official builds are supported!
Thanks

We're offering this to the community with no expectations that you use it, but for those who do use it we want them to be completely satisfied.
If it doesn't work for you, then I encourage you to use something from one of the other great development teams out there.
I thought of a couple solutions: 1.) creating 2 kernel builds, 2.) creating a sysfs interface so CM users could flash an init script that'd enable the CM ioctl's. Basically it comes down to this - neither solution is up to my standards for now.

Uhm, really ? Would be nice to have had a heads up at least before building this... i'm actively developing this kernel and i don't find it really fair to just pick it up and compile it as-is.
BTW it's kowalski, not kowalsky...
Tell the guy who ported it to the SU660 to send me pull requests on github with his fixes please, so i can build SU660 versions directly from my source and keep it in sync with the P990 one

Hi pengus77, sorry if you feel it inconvenient. This guy minhhang129 only compiled a version - which serves as temp because since CM team upgrade to CM10.1 , the wkpark kernel seemed not work anymore.
This guy's english is no as good, and so is mine. And I actually am a casual user who dont know about technical matters, things about github and fixes prove too much for me - thats why this version only works like a waiting version for SU660 user who really want a working kernel (though with some acceptable bugs) for old bootloader CM10.1 Nightly and only so
We are looking forward to hearing from your kernel for SU660 and thank you.
P/S: I have changed the name

First, unless someone can get that guy 'minhhang129' to work with Pengus77, we won't be enjoying this kernel's full feature (it comes with OC but not really working)
Second, why is it only for CM10.1? :/
I'm not really fond of using that ROM so I think I will just stick to using PA + wkpark's kernel
last, just want to thank Pengus77 for his concern and I blame TS for the misspelled Kowalski hahah

I really want to try it , hehe, but does everything work right now? eg. video decoder etc
Trying the PA 2.5. it boots forever

yup, it's very smoooooth!
I'm currently on build4 and never had issue, video playback is fine too(I'm using MX Player), games are all working well too.

I've just tried it and see a lot of potential in there, especially the nav - bar. Very cool. But version 2.3 is without project butter I think. I am using CM10.1 for long and when use 2.3 version I still see version 2.3 not as smooth as cm10.1 nightly. Maybe just my feeling. I just back off to CM10.1
If pengus77 can build a version of his famous kernel for SU660 which can run PA 2.6 - I think I will stick with this Paranoid Android - It's very cool
Tks anyway and pray for a new kernel for PA 2.6
you can use wkpark's fix and kernel for PA 2.6 too.
just download PA ROM 2.6 (whichever build u like) then rename it to 'cm-10-20130106-NIGHTLY-p990'

AOSPA [CAF] for Nexus 5

Hello,
As some of you already notice I'm working on AOSPA 7.1.x for Nexus 5. When this project becomes stable AOSPA Team will consider about supporting it officially with me as maintainer of course.
So, I will share with you, my progress so far.
To-do List:
Fix audio effects problem
Rework device repo [need to cleanup]
Fix camera not saving photos
Device specific features:
Switch from mpdecision to autosmp (better battery life)
cpu-boost optimizations
implement task's adj rbtree (LMK improvement)
disabled cpu retention (hh bugfix)
vsync workaround (hh bugfix)
This looks very promising!

YES, YES! It looks really tempting. Right now, a CAF base is much better for the Nexus 5 than an Aosp one. It's very nice to see something new based on CAF. Hope you will continue this project. Thanks and good luck.

I've been testing this for Marco during the past 2 weeks and everything works great. You guys have a reason to be excited and I know you won't be disappointed once it is released, which should be soon. I want to thank Marco for letting me be a part of his team and I praise all the hard work he has put into the ROM so it runs perfectly on our device.
I also want to test it, has someone have the latest build link? PM me, thanks

The ROM is stable already, we don't need any testers. you have to wait until the official release :fingers-crossed:

cant wait, cant wait thanks
Hey! I read in the Dark ROM CAF threads that a CAF ROM won't work if the screen is replaced by a non-OEM screen. Since PA is based off CAF now, I suppose it will be true for PA too? Can anyone confirm and is yes, is there a workaround or something?

Yes. The fact is true.
Do we need to flash CAF recovery before installing this caf based rom ?
Thanks for all the hard work you guys, this rom has been one of the bests in the history of custom roms and this is a great comeback.
Is it going to be released this week? once again thanks, can't even wait!

You know if there'll be monthly security updates? I've loved PA for PIE and i'd install it if something like that'll be available
