[TUT] [Samsung GT-S5570] How Enable Darktremor Apps2SD on CyanogenMod 7 - Samsung Galaxy Mini

As always, DISCLAIMER applies!
Pre-install:
-Backup files on your SD (optional but recommended should anything go wrong)
-Make sure that you have a 2nd partition on your SD card. If none, partition using CWM or any other method
-Format 2nd partition to EXT3/4 using CWM or any other method
-Make sure that 2nd partition is mounted at boot. You can check this by typing the command below -
Code:
mount | grep sd-ext
You should see this
Code:
/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 on /sd-ext type ext3 (rw,noatime,nodiratime,barrier=1,nodel
alloc,data=ordered)
How to install:
1. Download Darktremor Apps2SD 2.7.5.3 Beta 04 and save it on your SD ==> http://api.viglink.com/api/click?format=go&drKey=1359&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.xda-developers.com%2Fshowthread.php%3Ft%3D715940&v=1&libid=1311654060226&out=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.darktremor.info%2Ffiles%2Fa2sd%2Fdtapps2sd-2.7.5.3-beta04-signed.zip&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com.ph%2Fsearch%3Faq%3Df%26sourceid%3Dchrome%26ie%3DUTF-8%26q%3Ddarktremor%2Bapps2sd&title=%5BScript%5D%5BA2SD%5D%20Darktremor%202.7.5.3%20Beta%2004%20%5BN1%5D%20(01%2F29%2F2011)%20-%20xda-developers&txt=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.darktremor.info%2Ffiles%2Fa2s...a04-signed.zip
2. Reboot in recovery
3. Backup (optional but recommended should anything go wrong)
4. Mount system and data partitions (Main Menu > mounts and storage)
5. Install file in Step 1 (Main Menu > install zip from sd > choose zip from sdcard)
6. Reboot. Done!
NOTE: After the phones boots, it will reboot again. This is normal because a2sd will automatically move apps to the 2nd partition of your SD

thanks for your head up for creating a tut for it for those who find it difficult
offtopic:
but one thing again i want to mention that all this topic will slowly moved in back and will be difficult for mini owners to find untill n unless there is a seperate mini section in xda.cant we together pm the admin/mod/stuff and request them for a mini section by showing all the dedicated thread for it. just a thought.

Thanks for the tutorial!

a2sdgui is optional because darktremor a2sd was originally meant to run on terminal and not all commands are available on the gui

Cyanogen slow downs?

I'm using cyanogen-4.1.999 and for some reason, I'm seeing a massive speed decrease. I got 4.1.99 to run before it, but it also got slow-downs as well. None of cyanogen's roms did this before.
Example. It takes more than a few seconds for the screen to go from off, to maximum illumination (according to system setting that is).
What should I do?
I don't know what rom you were running before cm-4.1.99 but before you flash 4.1.99 make sure you wipe/clear your ext2/3/4 if you are using a second partition. After you have flashed 4.1.99 you should no longer need to wipe/clear your ext partitions when installing new cyanogen versions

Crap... I only wiped ALT+W style. Oh well. Should I wipe ALT+W again after reformating?
edit: and when you say second partition, you mean the SDcard right?
Instructions to install cm-4.1.99 and 4.1.999 using cm-recovery1.4
Download tmo1.6, cyanogen 4.1.99 and cyanogen 4.1.999 from cyanogen fourm to root of your sd card (not in any folder)
Boot into recovery mode (home+power)
Wipe
If you are not using a second partition ignore next steps
Enter recovery console any type the following:
#mount -o /system/sd
#rm -rf /system/sd/*
#reboot recovery
Wipe again
Fix filesystems
Continue here if you are not using a second partition
Select option flash any .zip from sdcard and flash the tmo1.6 rom
When it is finished select option flash any .zip from sdcard and flash cm-4.1.99. You can do this with out rebooting your phone after the tmo1.6 flash
When 4.1.99 is finished select reboot option (home+back)
After boot and phone setup turn off your phone and boot into recovery again (home+power)
Select option flash any .zip from sdcard and select cm-4.1.999
When finished reboot phone (home+back) and enjoy the awesomness of Cyanogen!

Yes in the instructions I posted above "wipe" is the same as "alt+w"
Doing all those instructions seems to be a lil extreme. Clear your data and cache in the browser, google maps, and street view (thats where it's held the most). And then go to terminal and type:
Code:
su
cd /system/sd/dalvik-cache
rm *
exit
exit
Then reboot your phone. It will take awhile for it to boot up like the very first time flashing.

Thank you. Way to keep your eye on the ball son.
This only worked until today. When I checked the directory some (all?) of the files there were restored and I had to "rm *" the directory again. Earlier, it took me about 5 minutes to get the phone to cooperate long enough to order a reboot. Ideas?

Well when you reboot the phone...android remakes those files. thats why it takes so long to boot after you do that. the phone should run smoother then.

Yes. I used sdparted to nuke the whole thing. Now I have a main, swap, and ext2 partitioned card.

is it in that order? because its in the wrong order then. it needs to be FAT32, EXT, Linux-Swap
you should upgrade to EXT3 as it uses journaling (its safer)
did you try booting without the sd card? (wipe and flash the update, remove the sdcard, and reboot)
is there still a problem with the speed w/o it?
No, my partitions are the order you said they should. It was just a basic reformat without any special paramaters.
Also, the slow downs don't occcur until the phone has been on for a while. A reboot fixes the problem quickly, but while the problem is in place, I can't use "su" in the terminal (the phone is so slow that the su permissions manager can't respond in time to give permission and it refuses) and I can't receive calls. Plus it takes about 5 minutes of fighting to reboot, and thats if I don't pull the battery.

im starting to get these problems too. Cyan is going to release anotherr rom (probably today) that aims to fix some of the major errors with the rom according to his twitter. I guess we should just wait and see if it makes it better
cyanogen 4.1.99 and 4.1.999 slow down cure
I upgraded two g1’s to 4.1.99 and then to 4.1.999. First they were slow. I had to upgrade my ext2 partition to ext3. I did this from cyanogen recovery console, 4.1 If you already have 4.1 console installed, Go to console, enter/return, on the keyboard and typed the command, upgrade_fs next to the # and then pressed enter.
If you do not have recovery console 4.1 installed. Use this link below, in the instructions for installing it from the terminal emulator make sure you type, su then press the return/enter then type in the flash command per the instruction.
http://www.cyanogenmod.com/downloads/recovery-image
Then you must be in the 4.1 recovery console, you access by holding down the power and home buttons while rebooting, got to alt-x, Go to console)
in console press enter/return
type the command upgrade_fs then press enter/return then type reboot and press enter/return.
I then downlaoded everything I needed and put them on my sd card and installed following these instructions.
http://www.simplehelp.net/2009/10/04/how-to-install-cyanogenmod-4-1-99-on-your-g1-android-phone/
Worked like a charm and runs fast and stable. Hope this helps.

[How-To] Restoring Recovery when Device running - An easy way (CWM / Stock)

Restoring stock recovery: (without Download mode)
[Preparation]
Our FIH partition which you could see in download mode is huge. (Size: 105 MB Used: 43 MB only)
You could easily keep loads of file in this partition without any problem to your device. (I have not faced any, as of yet!)
Just keep a backup of stock recovery in the "image" folder itself with the name "stock_recovery.img" (size: 4.5 MB only)
[Optional] And backup of CWM recovery too with the name "cwm_recovery.img" (size: 5 MB)
[Requirement]
Rooted phone
Apps like: GScripts Lite or Any script manager or Terminal emulator
[How to restore]
Just run following commands using any script manager or save them in a ".sh" file and use
"sh script.sh" in terminal emulator.
Commands:
Code:
mkdir /sdcard/fih
mount -t vfat /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 /sdcard/fih/
cd /sdcard/fih/image/
mv ./stock_recovery.img ./recovery.img
cd /
umount /sdcard/fih
rm -r /sdcard/fih/
(You can use "cp" instead of "mv" if you are not going for warranty claiming and just wants to use stock recover.img. Replace "stock" with "cwm" if you want to use that)
Thats it!
Now restart your phone in recovery using any reboot apps with recovery reboot option or just type in terminal "reboot recovery". You will boot into your desired recovery.
[Note]
When you install any official "fb0" ROM your phone is no more rooted, so you will need to root your phone first before using these steps again.

I am not to be held liable/responsible if you damage your phone by following/not following this thread.

That's the most generic way to that, but it requires those tedious button pressings.
And also it requites a PC!!
My method can be used if you are on the go and still wants to restore any recoveries.

[Q] No write access to /storage/sdcard0 on JB

Hi
I have recently flashed Cassie's XtraLite v11 which is JB. After installing this, I found that I no longer have write access to /mnt/sdcard or /storage/sdcard0..
Whenever I try to run swiftkey, it says downloading language packs failed. I also noticed that an app called SMS backup & restore was throwing an error saying no write access to the folder where it backs up.
I am guessing this might be because I have lost write permissions to the internal sd card. I tried the following but still swiftkey gives an error:
1. Tried reflashing the Philz Kernel
2. Tried wiping everything and flashing the ROM and kernel again
3, Checked SU app and it shows I have root permissions
4. Checked permissions of the above mentioned folders and it shows up only as Read access in ES file explorer. I am not able to change the permissions to write access
5. Tried installing the app called Mount /system (rw / ro) from Softbeans. It says that the system has been mounted as rw but I am still not able to get Swiftkey to work
Any help would be highly appreciated. Please ask for more details, as I might have missed relevant details due to my lack of knowledge

Awesome! I had wished you would reply because now it can probably be solved....
I came from the ICS version of your Xtralite rom itself...
yes I followed all the instructions twice...like installing the philz kernel for lsa and mounting and wiping preload...
factory reset x 3 etc...
I am not able to copy anything to internal sd from external sd

Ok that sounds. Little odd. An you say you have clicked fix permissions in cwm with no joy at all
Also I utilise the new lsa kernel in the new Rom. Flashing the old kernel for ls7 is not necessary. Did you flash the ls7 kernel after flashing th rom if so flash the Lsa edition in Phil's thread

I flashed the lsa edition from phils thread...and also I think your rom also flashes the phils kernel in the beginning of the installation.right?
I didnt try to fix permissions through CWM but through an app called Mount /system (rw / ro) from Softbeans
I will try to reflash everything to see if it changes anything. Meanwhile if you can think of anything please let me know.
thanks a lot.
try this :
Code:
mount -o rw,remount /storage/extSdCard

sorry I have never tried this...where do I type this command?
Would it be possible for you to provide me a few links which I can go through to get started with commands?
Is there a noob way to do this? like an app on android?
I would first try fix permissions in cwm. If that fails then you could use terminal emulator to see if above command works.
Then if all fails I would copy all internal files from sd card to the pc. Then in settings unmount internal memory usb storage and wipe it clean. This is untouched in Rom installation.
Test you can write to.it I.e download file from internet if good
Then copy files back
Else
I would flash stock ls7
F lash Phil's kernel in Odin then flash the custom Rom again

ok
1-you need to install android sdk in your pc from HERE
2- then connect your mobile to your pc via usb cable
3- from command line :
export PATH
adb root
adb shell
4-now you are inside your mobile
for internal sd issue:
Code:
mount -o rw,remount /storage/sdcard0
for external sd issue :
Code:
mount -o rw,remount /storage/extSdCard
Good Luck

1. Tried fixing permissions from cmw to no effect
2. Installed terminal emulator and wrote the command you mentioned...before that did su to go to root user...command implemented succesfully (no error). Still there is no change the permissions on the sdcard0 folder are rwx,rwx,r_x....I am not able to choose the last as write...I dont know why it is considering me as an other user
I installed the android sdk and launched eclipse as mentioned on the website...however when I try to type the export command it says that export is not recognized...I am sure this is a very very silly mistake but I dont even know if I should have typed this in the normal cmd on windows
Trying to reinstall everything from scratch now...
Okay an update:
I did everything from start and reinstalled...everything seems to be working fine at the moment...hopefully it will continue that way
one thing...do you know if the last installed apps are backed up somewhere and all the apps would directly be installed from play store? It used to happen on CM where apps would automatically download from playstore. I dont want to use TB or app2zip as that might add new variables which might lead to potential problems
Did you go the stock root first.
I don't use restore Google option as apps I don't want auto download.
I just use the all apps section in market my apps option. Only takes about ten minutes for me to reinstall all apps

The problem has reappeared
No I didnt go back to stock rom first as I am not sure how to do that...wouldnt that be unsafe since it might have a buggy kernel? let me try to search where to go back to stock from.
Thanks a lot for your prompt responses, really helpful.
What did you do before it went. Was it installing app if so which one.
You should bide able to go back to stock safely. Using Odin.
Check Dr ketans thread for advice.
It sounds odd hopefully it's not a hardware issue and a good clean setup will help

about export path :
I mean the path to where you installed android sdk
if you use linux , the command my be like this :
export PATH=${PATH}:${HOME}/galaxynote/android-sdk-linux/tools:${HOME}/galaxynote/android-sdk-linux/platform-tools

The properties of the folder were still rwx rwx r_x but swiftkey was working...then I ran an app called Rescan Media Boot(which stops media scanner) and then the Swiftkey error showed up which said cant load language packs...
BTW, the other option where you have mentioned I can delete everything on the internal sd...the step to copy all the files of internal sd and copying back is just for backup purposes (to save my data) or is it something that is required for android to function...as I dont have anything important on the internal sd I can delete all the files directly?
It's for backup purposes. Apps also store save data in android and data folder so always good to keep a copy.
Out of curiosity why use the anti media scanner

Used the anti media scanner because everywhere people have suggested that on JB it is Media which eats a lot of battery...same thing was happening to me as well
Now, I tried to delete everything from the USB storage...it says that it is formatting USB storage but even after formatting the available space remains the same...is there anyway to do this wipe from CWM? is that safe?
Okay your advice on internal storage and this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1985101 solved it...
I was able to format the internal SD through computer and now it is mounted as writable
It looks that I had a bad file/folder/whatever on my internal storage, so the system put /sdcard (internal memory) on read only as it notice the bad thing.

i am trying to install blackrose now
how do i check the hboot partition?
first install blackrose. only then u can install ics/jb roms. after installing blackrose, u need to resize your hboot partition according to rom requirement.
u can check hboot partition at the top of bootloader screen...

problem with uploading te logs so they are here in the dropbox link
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/1vkobzzlnsm7sx8/7QwldQcQp3
recovery 01.log
report 01.log
it seems ur using clockworkmod recovery. i would suggest you to try 4ext recovery. which is the best recovery for n1 nw. wid that u can easily format sd card and create ext partition.

[GUIDE][HOW TO] How to create a swap file for expand the ram without apps!

Hey guys! Today i am showing to you how to create a swap file for ram expansion without any app. Easy and simple!
Also i will give you an init.d script that will enables and starts the swap at all the boots!
What you need:
- Installed Kernel with Swap function and init.d (NOT the stock one!!! This metod is tested on my thunderkernel RC1)
- Root
- A file explorer (ES File Explorer recommended!)
- Terminal Emulator
- An sdcard (recommended class 10)
- A Galaxy Ace-i
OK LET'S START!
FIRST METHOD (Create a swapfile on your sdcard)
1) Open terminal emulator and type this things (type enter at the and of any line!)
NOTE: "count=700000" creates a 341MB swap file! "count=300000" creates a 146 MB swap file!
Code:
su
dd if=/dev/zero of=/sdcard/swapfile count=700000
chmod 777 /sdcard/swapfile
mkswap /sdcard/swapfile
swapon /sdcard/swapfile
2) Ok!!! Now you have created the swap file and you have activated it! Now it is time to download the init.d script in the attachment. (For the first method!)
3) Extract the 99_swap on your phone sdcard.
4) Open ES File Explorer and copy 99_swap in /system/etc/init.d. Then go to terminal emulator and type
Code:
su
chmod 777 /system/etc/init.d/99_swap
5) Reboot your phone!
6) With this method you can see on logcat the status of the activation of swap, search for swap in the logcat. Also if you can't logcat you can open /data/swap.log!
7) NOTE: with this method when you will connect the phone to the pc, the mount will fail. You have to go tho terminal emulator and type
Code:
su
swapoff /sdcard/swapfile
Then when you will disconnect usb cable you will have to type this for reactivate swap
Code:
su
swapon /sdcard/swapfile
SECOND METHOD (Using csc partition, thanks to rafael.baugis and domnic79)
1) Open terminal emulator and type
Code:
su
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/stl10
mkswap /dev/stl10
swapon /dev/stl10
2) Ok!!! Now you have created the swap file and you have activated it! Now it is time to download the init.d script in the attachment. (For the second method!)
3) Extract the 99_swap on your phone sdcard.
4) Open ES File Explorer and copy 99_swap in /system/etc/init.d. Then go to terminal emulator and type
Code:
su
chmod 777 /system/etc/init.d/99_swap
5) Reboot your phone!
THANKS TO:
- Me for first method, init.d scripts and this guide
- rafael.baugis and domnic79 for second method
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DEAD SD CARDS! DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
is there easy method for make swap partition? Partition creating on sd is easy by using some partition tools on pc, but how to mount it on phone?
With this method you don't have to create a swap partition on your sdcard! It uses a file instead of a partition!

yeah i know it just asking for 3rd method. Anyway, can you tell me how much swap file reduce sdcard life?

But this guide is for creating a swap file without apps! Anyway you can use also CWM for create swap partition... But yuou will lose all your files on sdcard.
A swap partition, or swapfile, on the sdcard will reduce the life of 25/50% but if you have a class 10 i think the life will be more longer lasting!

edit:
72MB of swap is installed with busybox (pro).
I've a question Lopi, if I'm on stock ROM and install custom Kernel, keeping in mind that stock ROM uses the CSC, won't it be better to use on a ROM that actually doesn't use the CSC? or it doesn't hurt the ROM to break the CSC area?
