[Q]No more "clicking sound" and screen orientation problems after Voodoo - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I just moved to Voodoo's kernel and everything is working fine– except that 1- I do not have the "clicking sound" when tapping on the screen any more (even though the option is selected) and 2- every time I open any other app, including the phone settings, the screen will automatically become horizontal, even if I do not turn the mobile. Any ideas?

Have you checked settings - display - Auto-rotate screen?

Yes, I had to disable that option because every time I opened any app, the screen would turn automatically and would remain that way– no matter the position in which I held the phone. I have also noticed that the leds no longer work when I have a notification...

Fixed
Never mind, I just realized I flashed a slightly different kernel

Lockscreen issue with CM7 stable (or Build 37 and later)

I think ever since CM nightly 37, my lockscreen is gone. No matter whether it's waking up from sleep, or reboot, my nook color never asked for password and anyone can access it!
I went to the setting -> location & security, the screen unlock option is still "change screen lock". Upon clicking it, I need to input my old password to change to a new one. However this is the only place that it asks me for password.
I tried disable password, then enable. No help.
I tried changing lockscreen setting in CM settings, no help either.
I'm running on CM7 stable now, and the problem is still there. Please help! I can't leave my nook color unprotected.
FYI, I used ROM manager for all ROM updates. The screenlock worked before.
It's a Tablet Tweaks setting, on by default.
Settings -> CyanogenMod settings -> Tablet tweaks -> Disable Lockscreen
Thanks. The lock screen appeared! However, it's at an unusual size, as large as a phone's screen. As a result I couldn't see half of the keyboard to input my full password. Is there a way to have a larger lock screen? Is it the set lcd density trick?

That I don't know. I've never tried adding a password lock, only using the various sliders/rotates on the lock screen.
go to spare parts, unclick compatibility mode

Cool. That solved it.
FYI, it was unselected. So I selected it, unselected, then reboot, then bingo!

I had the same lock-screen issue once I enabled it on CM7 stable. I simply rebooted and it fixed it.

4.2.2 lockscreen - vibrate on touch option gone?

I have a pattern lockscreen, and there used to be an option called vibrate on touch so the phone vibrates on each dot of the pattern.
after the update my XZ still vibrates fine, but my wife's XZ doesn't vibrate on the lockscreen when drawing the unlock pattern anymore and I can;t find the option to turn it back on.
anyone able to help?
thanks!
The option is under Settings -> Sound.

Hello
It is not this Option.
We mean only the Vibrate setting in the Lookscreen

Perhaps your wife has broken her vibrator in some way? The phone is waterproof... Jokes aside, I found the setting on mine (CyanogenMod 10.1, 4.2.2 as well) under Settings > Lock screen > Screen security > Additional options... but it is greyed out!? #noidea

I checked and no other option to set vibration except for the one I said above. I also tried setting a pattern unlock and there is vibration on each dot of the pattern. Perhaps you can just tick the option under Settings -> Sound and see if it works?
I have attached a screenshot I found which shows the setting.
It used to be under security settings prior to 4.2
the option is no longer visible after 4.2.2 update.
it seems my wife turned off that option before updating, and it kept the setting. but now it's not possible to turn back on as the setting is no longer there......

Kill the Always On Display

How can I toggle the AOD to be completely off? This is driving me nuts. I'm aware of the settings within the Motion Sense area of settings. The "show when nearby" seems to take, however no matter what I do the clock still appears no matter what as an AOD. I've tried disabling the following in different combinations to no avail:
Motion Sense
com.google.oslo
Pixel Ambient Services
com.google.intelligence.sense
Motion Sense Bridge
com.google.android.apps.motionsense.bridge
Even tried the clock app itself
com.google.android.deskclock
Whenever these are initially disabled it seems to work for a minute or so but then the clock pops back up on the AOD. I just want the toggles to work! This is for when I'm driving and my my phone is mounted where it faces me. I already have 2 clocks in my car and don't need a third it's more of an annoyance than anything else.
Do you have Always On disabled in the Lock Screen settings?
Display>Lock Screen Display>Always on

Search for "always on" in settings and turn it off
display / lockscreen / always on - does not exist
Searching for "always on" yields no results.
I don't have a lock screen set as I don't need it, though I did try setting one temporarily to see if the option showed up, but nothing. That's how I used to do it on my note but they moved everything around on 10.

You really don't have always on under..settings/display/advanced/lock screen display....then scroll to the bottom??
Display, scroll all the way to the bottom, select lock screen display, bottom third of the screen you'll see Always on, toggle it off. You can still have it light up by tapping, lifting, or triggered by soli, in any combination if you wish.
edit.. Ninja'ed me Badge, it's there, he just missed it.

It's probably because you went around disabling apps. Enable the Pixel ambient Services.

With everything re-enabled and a hard reboot, I set a screen lock. Then went back to display and the "lockscreen" option was now available. I turned off AOD and then disabled the screen lock and it took. No more clock.
It seems as though the AOD toggle being buried in the lock screen options, which is only available when one is on will take no matter of a lock screen is set. So every time I want to change this I have to go through this process. I wish there was a Quick Settings shortcut for this.

Well it's not exactly meant to be toggled on and off often like the ones in the Quick Settings pulldown menu. The easiest and quickest way is just searching "Always on" in settings and you can actually toggle it right there as seen in the screenshot.

Also if you are not using the active edge for anything critical you might try button mapper by flar2 and see if one of the options can be set to it. Or maybe even on of the other options in his app will apply it.

I don't now and have never had a lock screen enabled on my phone and can and have always been able to enable or disable always on display. Unless you disabled some app affecting this as mentioned above it should be there for you too just as it is for the rest of us. You may want to look into that and see what's hanging you up.

I haven't been able to do it since it was virgin out of the box, the option just isn't there. Doing it on my old Note 8 was super easy it was right where it was supposed to be. Although I have found a workaround for anyone on the off chance I'm not the only one experiencing this.
Being rooted, I downloaded ShortcutMaster and used the app explorer and poked around until I found;
[Setup Wizard]
com.google.android.pixel.setupwizard
tap and scroll down to;
com.google.android.pixel.setupwizard.alwaysondisplay.AlwaysOnDisplayOptInActivity
Choosing [launch] triggers the screen from inital setup to toggle the AOD.
Set it as favorite, or Homescreen (on the paid version)
Launch Shortcut master each time to change it or use the homescreen icon shortcut.
The setting seems to take each time I've done it so far.

Lockscreen customize
Since we're on the lockscreen topic, is there a way to add the camera icon back on the lock screen?

Question Push notification delayed until screen is on

Having used the phone for a week now, no major issues, but just one thing annoying me.
Some apps' notification are not received when my screen is off. Once I wake up my phone, the messages are then received and shown. But some apps (like WhatsApp, Messages) are working fine.
I've checked all the battery optimization settings for those affected apps but had no clues why they are not working the way they should. These apps are working fine in my other devices.
Appreciate any suggetsions.
Sounds like what I experience with OnePlus phones...something they did to make the battery last longer between charging cycles. Not much you can do. If they allowed background apps to work as we wish they would the battery life would stink and people would complain and sales would drop.
In my experience this depends on the system mode you select under settings/battery. For me in the dynamic mode notifications appear without delay, but some appear only when I turn on the screen in the durable mode.

Thanks. I've been using dynamic mode and even tried high performance mode, but still the same issue.
It's a setting from security and lockscreen. Press the clog at the right of screen lock. There you have a setting called notifications on lockscreen. Set it to show all notifications
Disable adaptive notifications. This should fix the issue.

no, it's not related to whether notification is showing in lock screen or not. the symptom is that only when i wake up the phone, the notification will then be received. i can see from the firewall log that google service framework accessed data as soon as the phone is awake.

Question Screen turns on by itself?

The Phone would be off on the table and the screen suddenly turns on for no reason, I have all automatic screen wake features off (raise to wake, notifications, etc) which I find quite bizarre.
I have looked it up on reddit and google and it doesn't seem a common problem at all.
it's surely a software issue since the device never locks itself while being used so the button cannot be defective.
Does anyone have this issue as well?
I don't have this problem, it sleeps like a baby )
I'm sure you also noticed significant battery drain while on standby because something prevents it from going to deep sleep...
What I recommend is to:
- disable auto launch for all the applications that you don't want notifications from.
go to Settings - Apps - Auto launch and disable as many as you can (I only have whatsapp enabled)
- disable system apps you don't use (check my screenshot for reference)
- Apps - Display over other apps - and set them on not allowed.

I barely have any apps with these permissions.
I heard that changing animation scale in developer options can lead to this problem in some phones? I'm not sure but I'm testing that too.
the problem is that it doesn't always happen, sometimes a whole day passes and nothing happens, and then suddenly it decides that it wants to turn itself on whenever I turn it off.
