It is a really cool App, installing the roms takes some time, but switching between them is quick and easy.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App

OMFGodddddd!!!!!!!! Yes!!!!! This is like legalizing drugs for flasher addicts!!

EDIT: bought it, and playing with it right now
edit: I like it alot, set the newer cm7 as my phone rom, and installed vicious miui in slot 1 just to play around with, its pretty fun, this makes me a flash a holic x5 or is that 4

Is this a must?

really cool app but this thread belongs in the themes & apps section

Playing around with this now, thx for the post. Never would have thought this would have been remotely possible ..therefore I never looked for anything like it via market lol.

cool app, but, how does it work?
is it automating the flashing process?
is it changing the boot.ini to make my phone look for the other os install on the sd card?
am I flashing like mad going in between roms?
I find these questions need to be answered first before I install this.
the way I understand it is
1.main rom i flashed on my phone internal memory+(kernel)
(on SD)
{
rom2+(kernel)
rom3+(kernel)
rom4+(kernel)
rom5+(kernel)
}
and the app works by flashing an update.zip that changes where the phone looks to boot.
Am I correct in my understanding?

Useful answers
1. Will this also work if you have a froyo rom and gb rom that you are switching between?
Yes u can install whatever roms u want to whatever slots gb roms froyo roms whatever makes u happy they're all completely separate it's like having 5 different phones basically
**** remember your radios folks we have mr1 and mr2 some roms need separate radios so if you use the app and swap, you wont have any data untill you flash a new one through hboot.
2. Are you saying that when you flash between roms, the app will auto wipe data, cache and dalvik?
The app creates imgs into the slots when u install a fresh rom to a slot u should check all the check boxes to wipe data cache and system but it doesn't wipe the data cache and system on ur phone just the slots data cache and system the app doesn't touch any of ur data on ur phone just makes it's own in the sdcard
3. Let's say I have Chevy's Froyo rom and his SS GB rom on there. If I flash from GB to froyo, then back to GB. Will I have to restore apps?
No each slot is saved all of it's data stays there nothing is ever wiped again just like having five phones basically all of ur slots are completely separate all of ur data is separate and saved nothing is lost

it aint workin right for me. I tried doing an install from the sdcard and it is telling me i dont have enough space. but i have 1.37 gb free!

This app is kick a**! I know one of the devs that made this app back from my D1 days (he was co-creator of one of the best D1 ROM's IMO) and he is an amazing dev! I was lucky enough to test this app and it is def worth the $$ if you're a person that can't decide on 1 ROM or you just like to try all the latest and greatest ROM's that drop.

I just downloaded this, can't wait to set it up and try it, maybe ill give some aosp roms a try.
Thank you!

So my question is...does it run the ROM from the SD card?
If so...how is the speed/lag once the ROM is booted up?
I like the idea of having different ROMs to test, but I'm wondering how much time you'd be saving if it takes that long to install a ROM initially.
A lot of these Devs have nightlys or almost nightlys....
Very interesting...

looks pretty retarded to me... right up there with rom manager. i cant wait to see how it effs things up for some beginner noobie
not all roms work, you may get FCs during setup... yeah looks pretty amazing.
think ill stick to manually wiping and restoring my nandroids after i get them set up.

That's what has kept me from purchasing it. It's been in the market for a few days now but if the rom runs off the sdcard it could cause issues.

That leads to my question. Isn't this basically like restoring a nand backup? Maybe this app makes it easier? IDK. I guess it's worth checking out.

On initial setup do you need to reinstall your current rom?
Sent from my ThunderBolt using XDA Premium App

Yes, it runs from the sdcard. Lag is minimal if you let the kernel settle when you boot one up. On my thunderbolt I don't really notice any lag and i don't even overclock.

New to HERO. Need a ROM

Hey gang,
I just bought a used HERO for my mother and would like to root it and load a custom rom. I will follow this guide to root it : Step By Step Way to root Using Flashrec(Updated 4/5)
I need some advice on a good clean rom though.
Below are my 'wanted features' in a rom.
Android 2.1
HTC Sense
stable (no need for constant reboots)
App2SD
good battery life
NOT overclocked
NOT themed (she just wants what she sees in the commercials. Stock look and colors)
keyboard with voice input (she sucks at typing and just wants to "talk to text")
LWP (optional but she probably won't use)
I looked at the rom area... and got lost with all of the choices.
She will never change a single setting once it is configured for her.
she just wants an "Android".
Thnx!
Everything except that stupid Blue Echo Rom, that thing is horrible

Hi PapaSmurf
I don't follow you...
Please link me to a ROM that fits her needs (if that exists)
Try nfinitiefx45 stock 2.1 deodexed or damage control 2.09.01
Sorry I can't link from the xda app.
Also, if the phone already has 2.1 on it, there is a new rooting method. If it has 1.5, flashrec should work fine.

Sooo, why not keep it bone stock since otherwise you'll void her warranty for nothing?

+1 for nfinitefx45's stock ROM. but get the odex version since you won't be using themes
Fresh is also a good option with slight visual tweaks (uses HTC Espresso launcher + vanilla lock screen)
of the 2 i'd guess the nfinitefx ROM is more stable since it's closer to stock, but I honestly haven't tried fresh.

My sig says it all....
(although DD is on a new version now... and does not have sense, but with a few simple flashes, who needs it?)
(PS, LWP sux, will not work on most roms (ie, not sticking on standby), and a batt drain, and slows sys down. dont bother.)
(PPS, after re-reading your OP, I am wondering why you are looking for a custom rom at all? b-sides the lwp thang, stock has all that, no theme, stable. root is good for a few extra things and I recommend it, but perhaps use a stock rom for stability and consistency....?)

ah yes, unless you go for a cyan rom, or some other 2.2 build, which I dont recommend personally, yet.
and make sure you have a class 6 card at least for a2sd...
I think you just want another Hero to play with lol. If you really want a custom rom, the odex version of Nfinite's stock rom has gobs of internal memory and is snappier than any deodexed rom.

[Q] Do I really need a custom ROM?

So what I have done to date on my Captivate.
1. Updated to latest Froyo 2.2 using Kies
2. Loaded .NET and etc
3. Rooted using SuperOneClick. Thanks ShortFuse
4. Titanium Backup. Thanks Joel
5. Android Central Sideload Wonder Machine. Thanks Android Central
6. Captivate Toolbox. Thanks Bay_wolf
7. Installed wireless tether 2.0.7 Thanks harald.mue, ulfada
8 Pimped my Captivate- Thanks systoxity, nbs11, and other XDA developers.
Now I'm to the point to ROM or not to ROM. Everything is working great. Further I am hesitant about the possibility of bricking my phone. Should I go for it? What ROM to use? What program to get ROM on phone?
Many thanks in advance.
The custom roms are basically to improve things about stock that others dont like i.e. Speeds, GPS, skins. It is all up to you, to decide whether you choose to go on one, and there is no simple answer to which is the best.

You've put a lot of work into your phone. Most ROMs will have the same features you added to your phone, buts its done for you. I love being able to flash a ROM.
Flashing is like potatoe chips. You can't flash just one.
You really should give a custom rom a try. If you want close to stock flash cognition, or perception. They have all the benefits you want, but run so much faster and smoother than mine ever did stock. I am running FireFly now, I love it. You shoukd definately try lots of ROMs.
I think the captivates are fairly unbrickable. A full hard brick is rare. There must be thousands of successful flashes for every brick. I've had my scares, but could always odin back to stock easily.
If you flash away and you dont like it, you can always go back. Once you try some of the awesome roms here you will kick yourself for waiting so long.
I guarantee you'll love flashing ROMs ... or your money back.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
you're very welcome. Enjoy your phone as it is, when you start getting bored or have some free time, try some roms. Roms can sometimes make your phone feel like a completely diff machine. Just look for ones that have great reviews and general feedback.

List your Steeldroid and Monster ROM bugs here.

The only determining factor on whether I stick with OEM ROM or flash monster/steeldroid ROM is this: do these custom ROMs have a single bug?
So, users of monster and steeldroid ROMs: are there any bugs?
There are absolutely bugs in both ROMs but there are bugs in OEM too. Both SD and Monster run so much faster than stock. You can still do everything youre used to on the roms. CM7 had the phone broke at one point but even thats fixed now.
Thanks.
I've got one more question if anyone can answer it. Do either of these ROMs I mentioned work on the Verizon Wireless Droid 3 or the GSM Droid 3?
I own the Verizon Wireless one (gotta make sure I don't flash an incompatible ROM by accident).
What, DarkDroid not good enough for you? :'(
Anyways, all roms out right now have been made for the Verizon XT862.

Being someone who doesn't enjoy flashing ROMs, I find it hard to tell which ROM does what but I thought I heard that Steel Droid and Monster were the oldest ones which made me assume they are more consistently stable.

Although when I reboot in safe mode nothing starts and when i boot in regular mode it seems exactly the same? I was trying to get the monster rom on 1.2 need help am i missing a step>? I followed the instruction and i did not notice that i had done anything different.........
No issues with darkdroid or steeldroid 3 from what i've found with my own slight notification mods for both, not had any market buying issues with either, flush the cash of the app or reinstall the market, failing that reinstall your roms from scratch.

[Q] Multiple ROM's?

Is there any way to get dual/multi boot in SGS GT I9000.
Or any way to change ROM with out flashing, Like a live disc. where i install a ROM in external SD and swap it to change to a different ROM. A crazy idea.
Lots of ROM's to tryout & only one phone to test them. LOL
Every day i try out a new ROM, The flashing part is really easy....Restoring part is a pain in the ass.
Any suggestion.

We all have our moments *takes a bow
But seriously what is the question? He/she is already on peach so obviuosly this person knows how to flash. We all know it takes very little effort an time going from one rom to the next. "So which one exactly should I try out first." says what gona flash again anyhow? All these roms have pro and cons an most people cutomize them anyhow.
Like so many other threads on xda all this thread really is (or at best could become) is a debate or argument about which rom is best. Which btw those threads eventually end up closed. An rightly so since it all comes down to personal prefernce. Lets see someone tell me what my personal preference should be.
As for helping i have no prob there. Have tried many times, even succeeded on a few occasions.
Its all good nomad, I'm not mad at ya'. Just remember we all had to start somewhere.
And yeah, I'm rooted and on a custom ROM but that's as far as I've gotten. So i'm not sure which of the 4.0x roms are good.
Anyways guys, one more question. I suppose I should backup before I flash slimbean, and I have clock work installed. Would that suffice in backing up my peach sunrise or are there another app you guys would suggest for doing a back up.
Thanks.
You can use clockwork mod to backup. It will do a complete back up of your entire system, so you'll be able to return it just the way you left it when you made the back up, so if you happen to run into some challenges and want to go back to the way you had things before, you can just restore that backup through clockwork.
If you have any downloaded apps that you want to bring over to your new rom, and you don't feel like downloading again or you want to keep the saved app data say for like a game you are playing, you can backup these up with titanium backup which you can find in the play store. Once on the new rom you can reinstall titanium backup and restore all of your app backups through there.
Ah! Thanks for that titanium backup info. When I went from stock to custom I lost the majority of my apps and contacts. So thanks for letting me that clockwork mod won't back stuff like that up for me.
Ok, I should be good to go now. I'll flash tonight when I got a bit more time.
You've been tremendous help and I really appreciate it.
Thanks.
No problem. mate. Here's an extra little tip. When you first flash slim bean, everything will look tiny because the default dpi is set to like 182 I think, and some apps in the play store won't be compatible due to this. so you have to go into settings under Interface > General UI > LCD Density and set it to 240 reboot and clear play store app data.
Thanks for tip about the dpi setting. Maybe this change should be rolled into the next build.
I haven't tried slimbean; I was going to recommend CM10. I thought Slim was not quite ready for prime time maybe.
I'll watch this thread to see if the new guy comments about his experience.

I'm thinking you realize this already, but just to clarify:
CWM will backup that stuff for you, but it would not be too useful when changing ROMs. 'Cause CWM backs up everything, including the OS, into one big glob. It's mostly useful when you hate the new ROM or something effs up and you simply want to roll back the phone, lock stock, and barrel.
I'd wager that most of us use both CWM (or TWRP) and Titanium. Titanium is a more finely-grained restoration tool.
As you gain experience you might want to check out TWRP. It's a bit more convenient than CWM. But really there's nothing wrong with CWM.
Yeah the new build has a res fix. And yeah I'm really liking slim. It is really stable, and I feel it may be even more stable then cm10. And it is definitely, noticeably smoother in performance. You should definitely give it a try.
Another vote for SlimBean. I used CM10 for a little bit. Since going SlimBean, there's no way I'd go back. Significantly smoother.
Slim Bean is really nice, thanks for the heads up!
I change my vote to Slim Bean.
Well I tried installing the zip from here and I get some kind of installation aborted error. I finally got around to trying this because I installed a shut down app and when the app shut my phone down, when I went to start it back up it would hang at the Exhibit screen. So I guess I have to be cautious on the apps I download that are for rooted apps.
Ah well, I'll go back to peach sunrise(hopefully, i'm redownloading it now, a restore from clockwork wouldn't even help). I'll play with Slim a bit later when I have more time.
Now I'm getting an installation error with peach sunrise. So I deleted off my phone, put it back on it, and when I go to install it the screen just flashes real quick and that's it. When I reboot the phone I get hung up on that Exhibit screen again.
What the heck did I do to my phone with that shut down app? I even forget the name of the app and I don't see it on my phone.
EDIT: Looks like I'm in a boot loop.
EDIT AGAIN. Well I'm finally on Slim Bean. I had to wipe my entire system to do anything with it. What can I do in the future to prevent this? Like I said even the backup that I set a few days ago wouldn't work. So this app must have really messed with something...
Sounds like you flashed an apk for some other device. In future only flash what us meant for this device. Playstore won't let you install non compatible and chances are if from playstore it isn't harmful as they are strict and quick to root out malicious software.
