What do you guys think is the best car kit for the HD2.
Looking for the best quality one with a charger and the option to rotate the hd2 to be vertical or horizontal which keeps sucked to whatever I suck it too.
Might want to search. there are quite a few threads about car kits or car holders.
personally i use a brodit which has a nice fit.

After searching for hours I came across a device called the dash genie which I think is brilliant! I currently use it in my ford fiesta and it sticks to the dash no matter what the surface and it looks nice with my HD2
If you have a modern ford fiesta you will know that the dash is spongy, but this cradle sticks with no problem. You can easily remove the cradle when your not using it and no marks are left.
You can also use other devices such as ipods so your not restricted...a one for all solution I personally recommend.
im intreagued as to how the dash genie works, there doesnt seem much to hold the device in place if you hit a bump or something.
just watchd a video of it, looks good might have to get one myself

I was the same before I purchased the dash genie, but trust me It holds the phone in place. I have to drive down a dirt track road every morning from my house and the road is full of pot holes. The poor car is boucing allover but the phone stays nice and snug
If you look at the dash genie you will see a red circle which is a sticky material, once the phone is placed on this it sticks like glue but does not leave any residue behind.

That looks pretty smart, depends where your cigarette lighter/power outlet is in the car though - Wouldn't be good for mine as this is located next to the gear stick on the central console.
What I'm using is the Dash Genie then a small device that plugs into the cigarette/power outlet which changes it into a usb power socket where I just plug the power cable in which you get with the phone.
I also have a 3.5mm jack cable that plugs into the aux socket on my head unit so calls, copilot and music come through the car speakers.

Not with the HD2 as the jack is at the top of the device. Not sure about other phones...

The earphone jack is on the BOTTOM of an HD2.
If you're looking for a solidly built holder that is well worth the additional money, then i'd suggest getting a Brodit version - Kit comes in 2 parts, a mount adapter specific to your car, and a holder for the phone... Adapter allows you to rotate the device for Landscape/Portrait usage, and allows access to the Headphone socket
The Brodit HD2 Active Adapter with a Cigarette adapter is a shade over £30... But as I said, well worth the money.
The HTC CU S400 car kit is AWESOME. Very high build quality and looks great. Not as good as the earlier prototype though but... The only downside is price, but then your HD2 is not exactly cheap either

The best car kit I tested so far is the standard Ford Focus Sony System bluetooth.
I simply connected it to the car and boom! Works perfectly.
Moreover I can charge the phone via USB while listening to the music I got in the storage card.
Simply perfect!

Using it with two devices, it's great! Only a magnet that holds the device firmly.

I have a silicon case, made a small hole in it, glued the small metal knob on my device.
The HD2 still lays flat on the table with the knob and is firmly attached in my car without turning/spinning around (That is why I took the holder with the large X)

Nice video!
The only negative of this product is the small part which holds onto the fan blade. When it gets warm or cold it gets softer/harder so it won't hold as tight as usual. This means that pulling the device off means you're pulling the blade off too.
So, it would be best when the clip is somewhat larger.
never being happy with what is already made..i decided to modify my accesories so they fit my needs.
keyboard: took a chance on this one..wasn't sure if it worked with hd2 bluetooth stack but it worked right out of the box (press a button and connect it to the phone..that easy). and it's actually great..the keys are very clicky with good depth despite the really tiny size (as big as the hd2). it comes with an optional stand and a case. and btw..it's cheaper than other keyboards...around 50$ and it's designed in canada..actually made in china..but still..
the headphones..this project has already been done before..but i used the great headphones from my old omnia phone..really good fit..deep base..buttons and mic still work after i soldered the wires inside it
and for the case ..this was the biggest pain in the a..; this case made by melko protects really well the hd2 by covering all the edges without covering any part of the screen. however it has design flaw..i had to chop of the top of the back part..(see photos) so the "hook" that grips over the phone (there is no magnet etc) can go all the way back. if not..the front part of the case would stay a bit open..dumb.
the second modification is that i "transplanted" the the clip from an old cellet case to the back of the case (glued it under the leather and sewed it through the plastic of the case with a nylon double wire..extra safety..you know. and ofcourse i had to buy the new metal clip that works with any cellet case. only downside is that i removed the zagg shield from the back and side. total cost for the case and new clip..about 30$..plus a few good hours of work.
oh..and the case doubles as a reasonably solid stand
so what do you guys think?

actually this project has been done b4
in short..you pop open the buttons (with your nail). gently you pull out the circuit board from the case and you give yourself some loose. you clean up the white stuff around the connections..unsolder the old headphones and then clean up the extra solder so that you can see the holes.
IMPORTANT the wires of the headphones you wanna add have to be cleaned either with heat from the soldering iron or with aspirin works best i believe (put the wire over the aspirin..heat it up..and as it melts you 'wash' the wires in the aspirin really well..carefull not to inhale !)
this will help uncoat the wire from the protective plastic film. then just solder them to the circuit board...use some epoxy over the connections for extra strength..put everything back togather...and voila

I use the Tetrax Xway. It requires a magnet on the back of the case. I initially thought it would be annoying but I positioned it in the very middle of the phone so the phone can spin on it. I can't tell you how much enjoyment being able to spin my phone has been. With a good twirl it can spin for 2 minutes 30 seconds. I really freaked people out when Inception was big as it seemed to never stop spinning like that totem.
But the actual mount attaches to the car's AC vent which is the perfect position. The center console just seems too far away. It can be just to the right of the steering wheel.
An additional benefit is with a neodymium magnet set I got from ThinkGeek I can mount the phone anywhere that's metal. I just take four of the little cylindrical magnets and form a square with them. The phone magnet fits quite well in the divet in the middle of them. I now have a phone mount on the hood of the oven to load recipes while I cook (or watch a movie). It's quite secure, and the magnet won't hurt the phone. Just keep anything with a hard drive away like an iPod.
An interesting possibility would be to buy a cheaper clip on cover from eBay (preferably black) then buy a cheap gps mount. Then glue the case onto the mount. Then you will have an adjustable $10-15 cheap car mount

I recently picked up the Turbo in Blue from Best Buy (Edged up, and they gave me a $100 gift card for activating it!) and this is too beautiful to go with a case so I'm going naked (except for a glass screen protector)

It was OK but it didn't always hold well over bumps and sometimes it did come out of the CD slot if I wasn't vigilant. It didn't help that I had the HTC One Max which is a beast of a phone.
In the store, the Turbo did stick to the Mountek magnet (I had to disable the smart cover software) but when I hooked it up in my car it slid down slowly (this is without using the metal pads) - I could have attached a metal pad to it but it would have ruined the look of my sexy phone so I decided to go back to a mechanical mounting solution.

I was able to pop of the magnet from the Mountek unit, and use the existing 17mm ball for the iBolt to effectively mount it in my CD Slot. I have only driven with it one day but I'm pretty happy with the end result - the iBolt holder has clips on the back to route the USB wire through, and there is an app for the iBolt Car "experience" which I wasn't thrilled with (and besides, the Turbo does everything I need with just the sound of my voice). If the CD Slot still fails over time like it did with my prior setup I may move the Mountek mount to one of the grooves in my car, or even better, I may end up getting a Proclip setup and putting an AMPS 17mm ball joint on that. Time will tell.
I'll post some pics of the setup later when I get back out to my car.
The Sosche Magicmount uses a magnet that attaches to a metal plate that is placed on the back of your phone. I was surprised to find out that my new S7E attaches to the Magicmount without any metal plate at all. If the phone is aluminum, how is that possible and will it harm my phone? So far, everything seems fine.
Should not cause any issues....magnets and phones are not a problem like magnets and old CRT TVs, hard drives, and other devices.
