Audio Output on P990 - LG Optimus 2x

The sound output from the speakers while playing any MP3
songs etc is pretty low. I could hardly hear the music, though
the sound quality thru the head phones is awesome.
(I use a Media player application called PowerAmp.)
Initially I thought that this low volume and quality is due
to hardware limitations..internal amp and the speakers
located at the bottom of the phone.
The other day I tried out a Game called "Jetcar Stunts" .
( This game has good built in sound effects )
Surprisingly, the sound level and quality was superb !
I couldn't imagine that the Phone could have this output level.
So its all linked to the SW now..which means there is hope
we can soon find a good media player for this Phone to
display its real power.
It is really a good phone.

PowerAMP amplify the speaker or u can use volume+

I tried that apk..but not much improvement.
I believe the Hardware is there to produce good quality
sound from the LG P990 speakers.
Bust somehow the SW is unable to make use of it.
But , that game 'JetCar Stunts' seems to have got over
this shortcoming.

Already disscussed before. Hope voodoo plus will add speaker add on soon. My ringtone are so high and of good quality. I don't understand why music is so low
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA App

just get cm7 with inbuilt dspmanager... that with the eq you can adjust the output

What's the sound quality from the speaker like?

I currently have an XDA IIs and the sound through the speaker is kinda meh, I'm thinking of getting a Touch Pro which I assume will have the same speaker as the Diamond and I'm wondering if you who have one will give me the heads up.
What's the quality/dynamic range like?
Is it loud?
Does it distort too much at higher volume levels?
I know some may question what I can expect from a phone speaker, lol, but there can be differences.
Thanks.
Not good. The sound is thin, so as the phone.
That was honest and helpful.
Thanks.

the sound from mine is fine, works like a charm.
The external speaker is for voice, if you want it to play "decent" music get some headphones or plug it into a stereo.
Could you tell me which music player you are using??
I am using the default player in TouchFlo3D. Tried built in speaker, bundled headphone, and my own headphone with 35mm mini plug adapter...all sound like old AM radio. No bass and high pitch is a bit scratchy.
Bluetooth A2DP + my headphone is much better, though far from perfect.

im using the builtin one, what encoding are you're MP3's?
Checked Media Properties by CorePlayer:
Audio: MPEG Layer-3
Codec: CoreMP3
Audio Format: 44100Hz 2Ch
Data Bit Rate: 320kbit/s
Duration ~4mins
FileSize ~10MB
Thanks walshieau. My problem with headphone is solved. It was due to buggy Audio Booster. More detail here:

Of course I agree with you that we can't expect too much from the built in speaker.
Sound from external speaker
I have Pocket Player for my TD and it has an equalizer built in that you can customize. I have the sound from my external speaker sounding very good, ( I think) with Bass. It doesnt rock my pocket...but...its much better than it was. I find it very acceptable.
not good for mp3 ringtone it like the speaker cant Handle it
the sound get crap when you turn up the volume

Of course. This is the answer
HastaSSSS
I come from a nokia 7710 (first real touch screen in the world) and that speaker was LOUD, the one on Diamond is kindo bad. Forget about bassss.
gbye.
Yeah, I think the problem is not just the quality, but the loudness too.
If you use this with a Sat nav program (e.g., TomTom), at the maximum volume the audio commands are not loud enough when driving and with the car's radio on
Anybody knows of any trick/tweak to modify the volume range on Diamond, even if it gets distorted, as I really just need loudness for sat nav directions.

[Q] is there a way that can improve the sound quality of NC?

HI,
I read some comments regarding sound quality of NC. It seems that some guys who use CM7 complained about bad sound quality. Is this true??? I am now using the booted 1.1 version and find that sound quality is average but at least not bad. Compare to my another android cellphone Moto Defy, the sound quality of NC is poor.
Is there a way that can improve sound quality of NC?
Is the sound quality of CM7 really worse than the stock version???

Sound quality or volume? I hear about people complaining about the volume, but not quality. How's the quality with earphones? Is it just the speaker?
I always use my NC in a case when I'm watching a movie or playing music, as it GREATLY amplifies the volume. Quality I haven't noticed an issue with, but never really done any critical listening, always just background music.

Earphone is better than speaker.....regarding the speaker....I think the only way I can hear the sound from the speaker is to stay at home...
I am always listening music when I am reading via NC. I am not satisfied with the sound quality compared to my another android cellphone. So I think about a way to improve sound quality. I want to play lossless audio music like APE & FLAC on the NC but I dont know how.........
On cm7 u can use dsp manager, it can improve quality by a great extent( use speaker volume to adjust headphones volume too).
If it's volume of the NC that you're concerned about, use volume+ app from http://androidaudiohacks.com/home/volume-gingerbread
But if you mean the quality, then I'm equally clueless about what to do.

Sound Issue (Music player)

hey guys, i noticed a REALLY annoying thing when i was going through the EQ presets in stock music player. If i choose Bass Boost, then my headphones start to behave strangely, like they cant handle the sound, on every thump there is a crackle in the headphones. you could say that its my headphones fault, but wait, heres the best part, ALL of my 3 headphones do the same + my computer speakers.
only happens on Bass Boost preset. guys try to play some track with a heavy bass beat, test if you have the same.
maybe there is an issue with the sound chip, idk. not a real argument to return the phone lol..
i wouldnt mind this, but bass boost is the best sounding preset (virtual surround is cool too, but its a bit too flat for me)
thx. lol, this came out to be quite a post

[Q] Horrendeous noize

Hi,
strangely, i find the audio quality to be very poor (much worse than the GNEX i'm coming from anyway).
- sound stage is much narrower using the walkman app.
- using poweramp has proven to be impossible : there is an awful background noize (that i don't get either with the walkman app, either with google play music, like a FM radio interference.) The sound stage seems wider (I suppose this is thanks to the "direct volume control" feature of poweramp)
I did the test with 320kbps mp3, and a wide range of CD quality FLAC files.
I have tried the high res usb DAC output, but will not be using it on a daily basis as :
- it requires the platic waterproof protection to be off
- with my usb dac (dragonfly 1.2) the phone cannot control the dac's volume control (100% output volume would smash to pieces my earphones, and my ears)
- having a cable attached to the microusb port is the best way to break the port...
I'm not using any of the rubbishy musiFX, clearaudio stuff.
My earphones are high end IEMs (westone W60).
Anyone experienced this too ?
Well, I have encountered similar problem with you..
For the noise floor, it seems that this problem appears only if you use Poweramp, I have tried to use walkman and folder player with creative in-ear 3 and ATH-AD900X, the noise floor is not very obvious. Generally, I think z3c has a relatively good control of noise floor, and the arising of noise is due to Poweramp.
For the sound stage, yes it is narrower when you use Walkman, open the Clear Audio+ will enlarge sound stage a little bit but then the problem of sibilance arises
YEEES. Thank you so much for confirming I'm not going nuts and my phone is not malfunctioning !
I've sent a bug report to poweramp devs. I hope it gets fixed...
I personally can't bare clearaudio-style features which tend to give the feeling the music was recording microphone was set up inside a can...
ps: btw I learnt a new word today : sibilance.
ps2 : please upvote the bug thread on poweramp's forum (http://forum.powerampapp.com/index.php?/topic/6857-horrible-noise-floor-on-z3-compact/)
ps3: forgot to mention, this noise problem is related to Direct Volume Control. disabling this feature in poweramp removes the noise issue, but also reduces sound quality and sound stage.

it was much better when i installed custom rom on xperia tipo with z1 features, clearaudio+ gave the huge quality boost

Audio

Can someone comment on the music player audio quality and how it compares to viperaudio mod? If it is subpar, what music player are you using? I'm on verizon so viperaudio is not an option until/if we get root. Thanks in advance.

My experience so far has been good. Through the 3.5mm headphone jack it plays really well through my car stereo, nice dynamic sound with pretty low distortion. More base heavy than I would go for but definitely well rounded. The phone speaker itself I find a little distorted due to the big base but it depends on your style of music and volume levels. The volume goes quite high also.
I'm comparing this to my last phone which was the nexus 5, personally I felt the nexus 5 volume was too low and lacked any base and made it sound tinny because of it. Even with viper audio I was never satisfied with it. The Moto x on the other hand got a few smiles from me with how it handled some of my favorite tracks on my commute.
The last phone I can remember really enjoying my music on was the galaxy s1 international version with voodoo music mod. That was quite a while though and honestly can't remember it enough to compare. Still, maybe that gives you some indication to what I would be looking for audio wise
Im using Apollo for my music player and the sound is great. If u have upgraded to 5.0 theres a built in EQ under settings/sound where u can modify how it sounds thru headphones and front speakers.
That's also in 4.4
