icon frames? - LG Optimus 2x

anyone knows if its possuble to add like a backdrop or overlay to all the default icons to get a more unified look?
or would i nees to manually change every icon?
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA App

use launcher pro ..you can get it from the market..it automatically gives frames to the icons wen you click it..or MIUI rom gives permanent frames..more like the apple iphone icons!

U could do that with lp? I never found that but please report back how.
I currently use go launcher that, if u use an icon theme like classic or suave (which I highly raccomend), does just that to all the icons that are not supported by the theme directly.
It's actually a really good launcher but my favorite remains lp.

hmm i should try go launcher a lot people saying its great i havnt tried it yet but tried others like lp adw and zeam and so far ive been stuck in the middle of lp and adw
zeam doesn't let you customize the icons in the dock. For that, you have to use launcherpro, and I think GO launcher could also work (someone mentioned adw could work, but i haven't tried)
BUT if you want to change the icons on your homescreen and don't want to switch to launcherpro, then get Desktop Visualizer. Pretty easy to use, and you can choose the icon you want for any action! You can also try Any Cut, but I highly recommend desktop visualizer
Couldn't you use a program to change an app's icon (like BetterCut or Folder Organizer), then drop the new icon onto the dock bar?
I haven't tried this yet, but I'll give it a go and post the results...of course, is anyone out there has already tried/done this, please feel free to share.

[THEME] Honeycomb Theme

I looked around and basically just couldn't find a good honeycomb theme anywhere from what I saw so I decided to take matters into my own hands...I do like honeybread for CM7...but it was just not exactly what I was looking for. So I'm running on the ADW Launcher EX so anyone can have the exact same setup with no problems at all. The Apps+ icon in the top right I made with the SiMi Folder widget with a custom pic icon...the clock in the bottom right is the One More Clock widget from the market. My messenger/calendar/gmail widgets are all from the Pure Messenger and Pure Calendar widgets from the market. The bottom left icon I made with desktop visualizer and just have it linked to my current browser. The analog clock is obviously the Honeycomb clock FREE from the market. If you go into the ADW settings you just change the screen transition effect to Effect 1 to get the nice honeycomb like scrolling effect. I have gestures setup so when you swipe up on the home screen it pulls up the app drawer and if you swipe down it pulls down the notification bar...this way I can still use them w/o it ruining the honeycomb look. I also added the circle batter widget into the mix in the bottom left. My home screen is setup for constant landscape orientation and 10 wide by 7 high icon space...this was made this way just to make the icons and stuff where I wanted them too. You can't really use all of this space because the widgets overlap and it just makes it a pain so I don't recommend it. The other thing you have to do is download the free honeycomb theme on the market for adw...this is just to get the google widget that I am using. Also you'll want to download the honeycomb wallpapers app from the market...this is where I got my wallpaper from cuz it just looks the best in landscape...the one that comes with the theme just isn't that good if you ask me...both apps are made by the same developer. Anyways...here are some pics...I'm running this on my OG Droid with the MIUI ROM on it...hope you all enjoy. Just click on the pictures to look at them bigger and get a better idea of how it looks...I added them to this originally with them already full but the preview was cutting off the right side of the pictures and I just didn't want to chance it...please tell me what you think.

hahaha...sorry man...i figured everyone would just look at the pics and if they liked then in order to get it all the same they will have to read it all anyways...wasn't really worried about what format all the information was in...the only thing that doesn't have anything to do with the setup is the first sentence of why i made this
so how did you get the honeycomb status bar?
i like it
but i hate how its landscape
\
ill make it more "portate friendly" if you can share the icons/theme elements

yeah the landscape makes it a little bit of a pain to use at times so i can understand not liking it that way...luckily you can make it portrait...just might take some tweaking...i've added a list of the apps/widgets that i used so that you can easily find them on the market...i would add links to app brain or something but i can't add links on here cuz i dont' have enough posts yet.
I'll also add the 2 custom icons i made for this...they aren't the greatest and i'm sure you could find better but it's what i'm using...there are only 2 custom icons...the apps+ in the top right and the icon in the lower left. I'll add them right away.

there really is no status bar...the bottom right is the One More Clock widget and the bottom left is just a desktop visualizer widget and the circle battery widget...the original status bar i have still in tact...just have to swipe down and it pulls it up.
Also for everyone else i've added 2 more pictures that are the custom icons that you need to make it just like this or even to make it in portrait view...just click to blow it up and then right click/save as in order to keep the icon see through and not white in areas

If you're using the xda app, I usually have to use jpg files. Make sure shootme is set to take jpg pictures instead of PNG. Just open up the app and press menu -> preferrences.
squid try what blu3poptart said with the jpeg thing and see if that works...only thing is the 2 icon files i attached to this are both png files...so idk...i don't use the xda app to post anything...so maybe that is your problem like he says

Honeycomb Style

Hi,
is it possible to get the Honeycomb-Style (Theme, Icons) without root?
Or is it neccessary to root the phone and use CM?
EDIT:
I found the "Go Launcher EX" with "Honeycomb" but I don't like the other features like switching the homescreens.
Try honeybread for the cm7 theme chooser:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=943423
Ah okay.
So rooting my Nexus S is necessary.
There is also a honeycomb theme for launcher pro plus (don't need root for that)

To change the status bar, etc. you need root, you can either use a .zip and flash the theme, or use a ROM which supports the themechooser. This isn't required though as you can create your own theme easily via UOT Kitchen.
My suggestion is:
1. Root your phone.
2. Install either Oxygen or CM7, both includes the themechooser.
3. Download and apply Honeybread HDPI Theme.
4. Enjoy.
This way you won't have to mess with the kitchen or anything, and you'll have the Honeycomb style you're after.
Hope it helps
Thanks for the fast replies!
I think I will root my phone today
Great.
It works.
Thanks!
EDIT:
And this works, too.

Not sure what you are asking... you hold down on the home screen and select to choose a widget.
Well, that's the usual way to place a widget.
But my installed widgets aren't listed. There are always only the standard ones.

guys check out the honeycomb launcher! and ripple lockscreen for a real honeycomb experience! still in beta but if they work on it enough it will be awesome.

Love GoLauncher, but need things changed

I run MIUI and am sick of the launcher (app drawer, etc.) I like GoLauncher with its widgets and such. There are a few things I want changed though, and I would like to know if it has been done.
First, I like how the icons in MIUI are really large, in GO, they are very small. Can they be changed in GO?
Secondly, I like how the text under the icons in MIUI do not have the black background. Is this possible in GO?

I didn't know they had one. I will take a look.
Launcher Pro is the only launcher I think that can remove the icon label backgrounds.
One of the reasons I love it. I do wish it had bigger icons and maybe a 4 icon dock.

I like GoLauncher better because of home swipe actions, the ease of changing icons on both homescreen n dock and overall smoothness...
This is why I use ADW EX.. you can customize everything to do with the icons.. Size, background of icon, text color, size, fully customize the dock, instantaneous drawer (I find go launcher drawer to always have SOME lag), tons of themes, same swipe gesture options and screen animations.. The only thing you lose is the widgets and there are other market Apps that take care of that.

Same here.. LPP and GO are great, but ADW customization go further (no dock is a sweet feature too)... but ADW is not as smooth as the two others, I mean that when you want to edit stuff (widget size, placing shortcut elsewhere, etc) it feels weird, not as responsive, I don't like it but it's the only negative point so I live fine with it.. pros and cons..
In go launcher i use desktop visualizer to get some real big icons, miui style. It gives me even the option to open shortucs to folder organizer.

I just downloaded Desktop Visualizer and I did not find the option in there for icon size. How are you doing it?
Long press the icon from dvisualizer that you just added to your home screen and choose resize.
Dvisualizer is a widget, you can resize it just like any other widget.

To use icon packs which are in apk format, you have install them like any other app and then use any custom launcher like Go/Apex/Nova to apply them via their theme chooser.
To apply icons which you get in a zip, you'll have to use desktop visualizer.
I made a video on how to apply icon packs.
I have a few icon themes of my own. Check play store link and the last line in my signature.
Well, you can use Go Launcher to change app icons, it also supports icons which is included in themes you use. you can have multiple themes installed in your phone and use those themed icons simultaneously, just not in the app drawer since app drawer only allows 1 theme at a time, homescreen does not have this limitation though.
You can also use Custom Icons which you can customize depending on what kind of style you have in mind. You can use these icons to change your homescreen and dock icons. Do not fear, none of these requires anything like rooting(Though in time you will find yourself being curious about it and eventually rooting your phone, take note, it's not a bad thing! It actually is the best thing to do if want to unleash the inner Android of you device! :good.
You can PM me if you have further questions, I also use Go Launcher btw.
