[WISHLIST] What do I want from a "PERFECT" custom ROM for Optimus Black? - LG Optimus Black

What do I want from a "PERFECT" custom ROM for Optimus Black??
WISHLIST:
- root + busybox
- clockworkmod recovery (with ext4 SUPPORT, fixed progressbar ;-) )
- adb in recovery..
- Entering recovery by phone app, keypress and failsafe file on sd card
- Gingerbread or Honeycomb icons in statusbar. Don't care about toggles, other colors, etc.
- Optimised kernel + minmax governor and 10% overclock + decent undervolt
- tweaked build.prop
- fixed improved sqlite (see gps issue) as option
- stock sounds + option to add my own ringtones, notifications, etc
- ALL stock applications with option to remove some of them (search sgschlorine or BloatwareBuster on XDA) (se the problems of appinj in Nova)
- Installation of user applications by CWM update.zip script or something like this... (somewhere on XDA is an Update-Zip-Packager script that packages stuff in a update.zip CWM-flashable file)
- Recovery and Reboot options in power menu
- Permanent increased sd card read_ahead cache from 128 to 1024, 2048 or 4096 (see /sys/devices/virtual/bdi/179:0/read_ahead_kb)
- .....
Most of those are included in Noejn's Nova...
The list remains open!
Most of the tweaks must be by default in the ROM.
Others I'd like to be CWM-flashable (statusbar icons, kernel, build.prop, sqlite, user sounds, crapwarebuster, user apps)
or...
- STRIPPED down to the bones "stock" ROM
- al the other options and apps (stock and/or user) packed in individual or small packs CWM-flashable files.
I think than making a highly "modular" ROM will help users to fine-tune their phones as much as they want to...
Most of the wishes in the list are BASED ON AND INSPIRED BY NOEJN's NOVA! Thank you and all the contributors for your work!

Nice. Do you already have the bold marked things?
Idea: Power Menu with Reboot and Recovery (I hope you understand what I mean, when you long-press power button to turn off and other options).
Which base are you using (10C, 10E...)? I say for compatibility with my themes (Which you can use too).
Thanks and kindly waiting for your ROM!

- Sorry for the confusion. I said I wish a ROM with those features and I invited users to contribute ideas. It is a whishlist.
- Power menu (long-press power button) with reboot and recovery is already in the list.
- I am on V10E Europe Open. Thanks for permission to use your theme(s)
I hope that you and the other developers and users to help.
So, for now, let's put together ideas!
off topic:
I posted to you V10E Europe Open framework-res and lg-res .apk in your Gingerbread theme thread as you asked. I'd like ONLY the Gingerbread (or Honeycomb) icons for the statusbar if you can help. Thank you.

Oh sorry. Since it was a question I understood you were looking what you had to put in the ROM. Yeah I knew I had read power menu in the list, but when quoting didn't find it so I wrote it.
You posted the files? Sorry I didn't see it :S . Will do when I get back home in Wednesday. Black statusbar too or just icons? Not popus or buttons and all that? OK

I mean battery, wifi, 3g..etc icons that appear on status bar.
Just like the old gingerbread icons and shiny statusbar that you made some time ago.. The default V10E black background is OK for me.
Gingerbread icons or Honeycomb ones..... Or maybe two frameworks One with Ginger and another with Honey....
Because... what is better than a framework-res? TWO OF THEM!!!
And... can you teach me how to decompile, modify and recompile apk's? The decompile and modify parts are ok for me..but compiling.
Can I just open with winrar, modify and then flash the result?
Thanks!

Gingerbread for sure. Honeycomb... I don't know...
For png you can just drag and drop with 7zip or winrar. For .9.png, you need to compile them. I use x9 compiler for .9.png, then drag and drop with 7zip and flash
Only recompile when touching xml's

So if I already have cm6.1.1 installed, can I just install the Gingerbreadxml.rar and framework-res.apk for the theme to work? Or do I have to reinstall cm6.1.1 with GM theme built in? Thanks
You could, but I would just flash the rom zip over what you have as it has a few extras like the gingerbread browser and phone apk.
Nice find, brswatt. Finally a full theme that doesn't break my tethering. Updating my thread to point to this one.

You could, but you wouldn't have the gingerbread dialer.
So just flash the whole thing. It doesn't hurt.
Then just put the xml on your card.
Here is a LiveWallpapers.apk to adb push or include in that rom before you flash. I replaced the cyanogenmod wallpaper with the nexus s wallpaper.

Well, when the flashable zip thread pops up in the themes forum, you can link it there, or I'll link it in the first post.
edit: I posted it here
wow, many thanks. Im going to try out right now
I put the gingerbread.xml in the cmparts.apk, so we don't need to save it to sdcard/cmtheme.
About the flashable, by the time you run the cleanup.sh, /system might be not mounted. Nevermind, files will be overwritten anyway. But I still think files delete and set-perm should be done within update-script.
EDIT: File updated. Sorry I didn't know it only loads internal theme files that contain the word "STOCK".
Nice theme, but is there a way to get the old notification pull down back? I like the dark themed pulldown better.
Edit: Nevermind...the CMTheme changed it.http://media.xda-developers.com/images/icons/icon6.gif
brswattt, I fixed the framework-res power notification dropdown icons to all black:

[GUIDE] Status bar customization using UOT Kitchen

Since everyone has a different taste of how the status bar should look like here is simple guide how to do it.
What you need:
1) rooted device with CWM installed (for example per Chainfire´s guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331784)
2) extracted apk files "framework-res.apk", "SystemUI.apk" and twframework-res.apk (use any root explorer) located here:
framework-res.apk: system/framework
SystemUI.apk: system/app
twframework.apk: system/framework
Caution: to use it with particular ROM you need to extract these file from that particular ROM - does not (for me) work just to use core files (like for custom KKA ROM use original KKA stock ROM files)
3) go to UOT Kitchen http://uot.dakra.lt/kitchen/ and choose the features your status bar should include. Once your selection is done go to tab "file upload", choose on right side option "upload system files" and upload extracted file from step 2. Once they are fully uploaded, go to summary where you can check what is going to be cooked. Then just simply click"submit work to kitchen" and wait for compilation completion. Pick up your file, save it somewhere to your computer or phone. Then just use CWM to install it.
Note: I have not tried this for originally themed ROMs like ROWMO or Sheep ROM so I do not know whether it works.
Confirmed to work for Cassies ROM, MySam and stock ROMs so I guess the status bar customization should work for other (not AOSP) ROMs as well.
Good luck, Haddar

Just upload files as in step 2, leave other options untouched.
Thanks for the great guide. Can anyone tell me where to find the default MIUI statusbar icons? I haven't seen this in UOT Kitchen.
Thanks.
Unfortunately many of nice status bar icons are not "pickable" at UOT Kitchen. If there was an option to upload our own icon set it would be a good time to ask theme dev´s to post them somewhere here. But it is actually not ..... we probably need to use what is already there.
I've used this before but now I can't get it to work. I'm trying to use a boot animation and I'm setting the boot animation to Galaxy type, and the binary scripting to Galaxy. I did manage to change my status bar icons but a few of them didn't change.
I'm galaxy noteOK
In the status bar size option... What kind of size is to be selected? Because there is no option for 1200x800 pixels in the status bar size option... :O
And can you do a small tutorial on the 10 or 14 status bar toggles as there are on the samsung galaxy s2... Please if you can do this it shall be a great help!!! Thanks a lot!

That's how you cure bootloop. Then you just use 3-button combo to get into recovery mode and restore your backup.
This works! Finally found a way to get rid of that awful battery % mod on custom roms.

Can anyone confirm that it is impossible to make transparent the status bar on a Samsung device? I tried to cook a theme on the kitchen, but it did not work, only the entire status bar desapeared.
Any other options that you know?

I tryed kitchen. But in the LG ROM some files are not in framework-res or system ui.
So you can change only status Icons and battery icon but not the ugly blueish style of the whole ROM like the Icons in the dropdown menu.
Is it understandable what im trying to say?
Yes, me too I've tried several times changing the icons in the drop-down menu but so far i haven't succeeded :/

It's because some things are named different. You can't change those icons unless you decompile. Example, in dropdown menu/pull down menu, indi_noti_bluetooth_off (LG) versus stat_bluetooth_off (Gingerbread, CM7). UOT doesn't cover that.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, and thanks gabwerkz that's what i meant ^_^ When you say decompile you refer to decompile the framework-res.apk or the systemui.apk?

If you want to change those icons, they are located in SystemUI. If you have your UOT zip, extract/unzip it.
1. Grab the SystemUI and decompile.
2. Change the icon/s.
3. Compile.
4. Rename the compiled unsignedSystemUI to SystemUI.
5. Open your UOT zip by double clicking (if you have a rar/zip program),
6. Locate SystemUI (app folder).
7. Drag and drop the compiled and replace.
8. With WinRAR (my compression method is "store").
9. Exit and flash the zip.
Be aware of the icon size (for alignment) left and right. You can crop top and bottom so you can resize it's background too. Same as the Carrier background. See my unresized background example below (V20N). A waste of space. Then see my modified one (CM7). you only get good results by decompiling. UOT cannot resize backgrounds.

SystemUI.apk now in Gingerbread
Are there in this new ROM lge-res.apk and suires.apk?? They were in Froyo, pretty important.

This theme I made, for most basic stuff, it's just getting png's from some clean Gingerbread Rom like Nexus one's. For more concrete things like volume bar of description text, well you have to get into xml's and test, but not hard for someone like gabwerkz and some others.

No such files, atleast the one I'm using. I'll look into stock one, but I think they are important and should be there even in repacked ones if they are included indeed in Gingerbread. thanks for the advice tony.

[THEME] Stock LG UI Theme for Marvel ROM (+some apps)

Hello everyone,
After a few days working with gabwerkz and N00BY0815 in this thread we have managed to create a theme for the Marvel (v4) ROM. It's the stock LG theme. Some icons can't be replaced but well, most of the appearence is stock.
Downloads:
This is supposed to have 2 versions. Choose just one of them.
Version 1 (Theme) - gabwerkz:
http://www.mediafire.com/?mejgaze39nar65f
Version 2 (Theme + Launcher + Some Stock Widgets) - VictorMun:
http://www.mediafire.com/?1zjfpn323l85z7kMirror: http://min.us/mvv3NQ1gG#1o
Add-On - DroidSansFont (Stock font):
http://www.mediafire.com/?09l3ddx9h55dfpoMirror: http://min.us/mvv3NQ1gG#2o
Add-On -Stock Music App:
http://www.mediafire.com/?0jk2wlsw43a52ddMirror: http://min.us/mAYHjXfl4
Installation:
Boot into recovery
Go to Advanced
Wipe Dalvik Cache
Go back to the main menu
Choose Install Zip from SDCard
Reboot
Issues:
Not every widget could be restored because some of them won't work
If you want to install the Add-Ons, it's better if you install them after flashing the theme.
Installing the Stock Music App won't remove the Google Music App included in the ROM.

No modification for the theme. Just flash the stock apps for that ROM. ask for a flashable stock deodexed apps from the cooker. I believe it's V20N. Also, if you have xanadus repacked V20N, just replace the apk's inside the zip before flashing. That way, you have LG's default/unthemed apk's/UI.
HE also will need framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk from a stock ROM, right?

I'll try, thanks
EDIT: Nope, didn't work :S
However, it is weird because I've the buttons and all from the stock ROM... so I don't really know where the problem may be. I even used the UOT kitchen (to try a random setup) with Marvel's framework-res.apk and the 20n system-ui.apk but it still fails at showing the status bar. Therefore I believe it's related to the system-ui.apk.
From which ROM did you take the System and framework files? B or N? Cause this might also be the cause... Zeus is a v20B ROM, at least the higher versions, which I guess you are using. And if you take the files from a V20N ROM, there might come up a bug, like not showing statusbar... You also might DieDerik, how he solved it, cause he also had the same problem, or gabwerkz might be the PRO on this
Edit, just read the first post again and you use Marvel... This is based on V20N AFAIK, did you use V20B files then maybe? You might also request Marvel, to give you his original files, I guess he will help you out, when he has got some free time
Edit 2: Did you use deodexed files? This might also be the cause...
NOOBY hit the bullseye on that.
but hmmm, he said he used SystemUI of V20N. Now be sure it's deodexed and permissions are correct.
Oh and UOT somehow already left a lot of guys here with a missing status bar. So first try to get the stock statusbar and after you try to mod it again, then you ll at least know, where you can find the bug. Because different files + mods are two possible sources of bugs...
And if you want gabwerkz, you can provide him with a zip, to flash the files + permissions, so he shouldnt have problems with it
Oh I remeber now G*damnit. NOOBY is right, UOT sometimes won't show your statusbar. I've experienced it. If it was from a different Version (V20b) chances are it won't boot for some apk's.
Tell me what apk's you need or themed apk's that you don't want...?/

Thank you guys for your help. I've been using the 20n version that is included in the 20n repackaged. Permissions are correct (as the other system apps). I really wonder where the mistake may be... I'll ask the developer, in case he is able/willing to help.

Oh I remeber now G*damnit. NOOBY is right, UOT sometimes won't show your statusbar. I've experienced it. If it was from a different Version (V20b) chances are it won't boot for some apk's.
Tell me what apk's you need or themed apk's that you don't want...?/

If I also may answer your question, it's a flashable .zip, if you look into it, you ll find all the files in their folders and updater-script and so on
Just boot to CWM and flash it

[THEME] JB/ICS Theme for Zeus 7.0x / 6.4

I wanted a more "pure" Jelly Bean/Ice Cream Sandwich look for my Optimus Black running Zeus v7.01, so after a lot of tweaking, I made it happen... Some of the graphics are mine, but big thanks to sonnysekhon, Team Syndicate, and the CM10 crew for the resources, and of course to Huexxx for his awesome ROM! CWM flashable ZIP attached. To install themed "Settings.apk" file, copy or push to /system/app, setting permissions to rw- r-- r--
New R2 release includes:
- Numerous enhancements / accuracy corrections
- More Jelly Bean!
10/29/12 update includes:
- Themed Settings.apk
I'll flash now and see how it's working.:highfive:
Very Nice.
thanks:good:

One problem if using black background in notification area is some apps notification text is also black.
Any idea how to fix it?

That is the only "bug" that I haven't been able to circumvent. It seems that some apps don't adhere to the colors defined in "status_bar_latest_event_content.xml" for notifications. Not sure why this is. If anybody knows, I'd be happy to take a stab at it. Otherwise, the only alternative is to use black text on a light background in the notifications area, which I really didn't like, and isn't very true to the ICS color scheme. I, fortunately, only have one app that has this issue, (Amazon MP3) so I just "live with it."
And you could theroetically install this theme on any GB-based non-Zeus rom, but in my experience, you'll probably have issues - particularly with the "power dialog" screen. For this reason, I would only recommend installing it on Zeus v7 & v7.01. (maybe v6.4 as well?)

Here you go... Flash the attached file in CWM and let me know what you think. Again, it's not my preference, but it should resolve the issue you are having.
Lets say if i flash this onto my Zeus 6.4©,if anything goes wrong like the theme is not good on the rom,how do i remove it and also did someone try this on 6.4?
My main agenda is to help, not gain thanks.

Im using it with v6.40 v20o and it works like a charm, no FC's, swipe notifications are working...
Only thing, it happens just like in the old themes for zeus, 2G / 3G toggle doesnt work. It does nothing if you touch it, but anyways holding touch on it gets you to the "set network" screen, which allows you to select only 2G. So... its not quite annoying (and also I dont know if this is a bug in the v7 zeus version)
PD: I think andrewbadge fixed the 2G/3G toggle in his Xperia theme.

Sure...
framework-res.apk/res/layout/status_bar_latest_event_content.xml (This is the file that dictates the color of text in the notifications - It needs to be decompiled before it can be manually edited)
framework-res.apk/res/drawable-hdpi/status_bar_item_background_normal.9.png (This is the background image for notifications - Be careful, though, as it is a NinePatch (.9.png) file, and must be recompiled after editing)
Be sure to send me a screenshot of the final result!

When you go, I'm returning...
status_bar_latest_event_content are 1 type of notification... but there are more... and the worst... there are apps with their own .xml included in the app... that's the reason why v7 has black notifications and v7.01 doesn't...

If you discover how to make ALL the notifications (music, whatsapp, download, upload, etc) with white text... I will be the first to include it in my ROM with your permission and with all the credits to you!
