[REF][Aug-18-11]Compiled list of instructions of new members of P500:OPTIMUS ONE - Optimus One, P500 Android Development

This thread serves as a helpline for newbs in the community of Optimus One!
Note:Some roms/kernel may not have been included as I've find roms using ciaox's thread on "REPOSITORY OF USEFUL POSTS IN LG P500 FORUM". If there are any roms/kernel that was left out, feel free to kindly pm me the link of the forgotten rom.
And...let the fingers type! Oh and by the way, this will take at least 3 days from aug 18 so cut me some slack!
Files needed to do any operations are actually attached by links at the bottom of the thread
ROOTING:
2.2= z4root
Instuctions:
Code:
1.Click on root
2.Wait till it reboots
2.2.1/2.2.2=Gingerbreak
Instructions:
Code:
1. Download Gingerbreak
2.Enable debugging on USB. To do this, go to Options -> Applications -> Development -> Debugging USB. Put a tick.
3. Run Gingerbreak
4. Choose a Root mode
5. Wait a few minutes. If there are no problems, then the device will reboot (note that rebooting can take a long time, so we are waiting)
6. Rejoice!
All this instructions are for use when you are using your phone! (means that you do not need to use pc.)
Files:
Z4root - link is currently broken, wait a while longer or you could help me search
Gingerbreak - http://www.multiupload.com/UFEYOBKD60
Installing Recovery System:
This is a bit hard so remember to follow every step or you might end up wiping your phone as default recovery is to wipe and reinstall android system.
Also, do this with your phone as well but I recommend Wifi Keyboard downloadable from the market to type the following commands. Download terminal emulator as well as we would be needing that.
Step 0. Download flash.img and whatever recovery (CMW, AmonRa, etc..) you want into the root of your sd card
Step 1. Open up terminal Emulator
Step 2. Change to Wifi Keyboard or use your preferred keyboard.
Step 3. If you are using Wifi keyboard, check the instruction manual
Step 4. Type the following instructions into terminal emulator with a space in between every line
Code:
su
*space*
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock1 /system
*space*
cat /sdcard/flash_image > /system/bin/flash_image
*space*
chmod 755 /system/bin/flash_image
*space*
mv /system/etc/install-recovery.sh /system/etc/install-recovery.sh.bak
Till here, you should only have either 1 or 0 errors from terminal emulator and if u do have 1 error, it should only be from the last step :"mv /system/etc/install-recovery.sh /system/etc/install-recovery.sh.bak" If this goes perfectly, proceed below, if not, do not proceed but check for spelling errors as if you proceed wrongly, you might wipe your phone (PM me with unidentifiable problem). If its all perfect like I said above, proceed below
Code:
*space*
flash_image recovery /sdcard/[COLOR="Blue"](name of recovery - such as OMG.img)[/COLOR]
Step 5. Wait for it to reboot into recovery...If it shows a box with a arrow pointing from the box to the droid robot, you screwed up. Wipe your tears and repeat from step 1-5.
Help needed: Can someone pass me the latest CMW recovery file by pm and also z4root apk?

oh... u did say 'cut me some slack!' ... Sorry about my previous post then ! All the best!

I kinda made this thread because i sorta have enough of people running aimlessly on topics we have discussed before and I thought that this sort of thread is one of a kind as other threads are kinda full of links but no instructions.

Help!! Rooting problem...i think

Okay, I've been trying to root my sprint hero for 3 days now. I flashed it to Cricket service actually. So here are the commands I am using:
C:\Users\Ashton>cd\
C:\>cd AndroidSDK\Tools\
C:\AndroidSDK\tools>adb devices
List of devices attached
HT02AHF00747 device
C:\AndroidSDK\tools>adb shell chmod 0755 /data/local/asroot2
C:\AndroidSDK\tools>adb shell
$ /data/local/asroot2 /system/bin/sh
/data/local/asroot2 /system/bin/sh
[+] Using new pipe_inode_info layout
Opening: /proc/627/fd/3
SUCCESS: Enjoy the shell.
#mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
#cd /system/bin
cd /system/bin
#cat sh > su
cat sh > su
# chmod 4775 su
chmod 4775 su
#
Okay, that's exactly what's displayed on my screen. I didn't put the # or $ signs in there. That's just what appeared as I was typing the commands. When I try to flash a recovery image, it won't install. I get a Signed Failure error. Any ideas? What am I doing wrong? Also, does a cricket rom for sprint hero exist? Or should I use a Non-Sprint ROM? I mean, it's a sprint hero, but it has been flashed. Thanks Everyone!
This has nothing to do with Development.
...sorry, i thought...
I'm not sure where else to post it. I thought it did, since the rooting guides and roms are posted under Development.
Would the General are be more appropriate? I'm not trying to post in the wrong places. But I don't want to post there and get the same response. lol, Just need help. Not looking to tick anyone off.

I came from WinMo as well. Trust me, once you get the hang of it, it's easier and faster than RUUing every time.
Okay, I tried the above. Here's what I happened. I am rooted (i think). I used a file explorer to to backup the recovery image. It said it was successful. Then I rebooted into the Recovery Menu. Still looks like the stock one. Three lines of options with blue fonts. I try updating the image from there, but all I get is "Can't open /cache/recovery/command". fustrated, It sucks to be a noob all over again.
I forgot to mention, I also did a factory reset before trying to write the image as suggested in the instructions.
Thread moved.

Dont boot into recovery, just boot up your phone and do this....
Put the New recovery image on your sdcard, by either opening it up on your computer. Or put the file into your c:/android-sdk/tools folder and type this
adb push NameOfRecovery.img /sdcard/ (make sure you name recovery the exact name as it appears on your computer or rename it to just "recovery" so its easy to remember)
once its on your sdcard and your phone is on charge only.. Not mounted to the computer type this
adb shell
cd /sdcard/
flash_image recovery NameOfRecovery.img
Okay, I think I know what the prob is now. Even if it's not the prob, it will have to be fixed. I have the wrong stock image. I have v1.56 which I think blocks rooting. Trying to downgrade. Thanks Everyone

X is Rooted

According to a new thread in the General section posted by Zanix, the Droid X has been rooted. Birdman has achieved root and here are the instructions.
We haz Rootz!
WE HAZ ROOTS!. Thanks to Birdman. Here is the directions.
Step 1: Set up ADB
Step 2: Push exploid to /sqlite_stmt_journals "adb push exploid /sqlite_stmt_journals"
Step 3: type "adb shell"
Step 4: type "cd sqlite_stmt_journals"
Step 5: type "chmod 755 exploid"
Step 6: type "./exploid" and follow directions on screen
Step 7: type "rootshell"
Step 8: type in password "secretlol"
Step 9: your in root!
Step 10: mount your sdcard to pc and put Superuser.apk and su in the sdcard
Step 11: unmount sdcard
Step 12: in adb (make sure your still in root with the # sign) type in:
- cp /sdcard/Superuser.apk /system/app/Superuser.apk
- cp /sdcard/su /system/bin/su
- chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
your done! feel free to kill the bloat apps snd such ;
NOTE: it might be a smart idea to do "rm /system/bin/rootshell" after you have su and superuser in place as ANY program will have access to your root if you leave it (cause everyone will know the password)

This is fantastic news, and very unexpected TBH. One question though:
1. How much does rooting the phone contribute to unlocking the boot loader? I want Cyanogen .

Birdman did say that milestone and droid x have same security measures.
Which probably means that DX just caught up to where milestone has been for months.
I guess that's a start, but I highly doubt unlocked bootloader, personally.
**nevermind**
I installed setcpu.and it allowed me to change the min value and updated to the new value. How can i test to see if it really increased it? Going to info shows the new value by cpu freq as well.

XDA You're the BEST!
For those having trouble:
I couldn't get the damn thing to unmount in Windows so after I copied su and Superuser.apk to the SDCARD I just unplugged my phone, loaded a terminal emulator from the market and finished the rest of the commands directly on the phone.
Worked like a charm, thanks to all involved with the root!

HA now i've decided between the incredible and droid x, X it is!!
Simple Process. Way to go everyone.
So now that we're rooted, what can we do other than removing apps with adb? Is it even worth the rooting without an unlocked bootloader? Like if all people care about are removing apps, why don't they just use Startup Auditor?

[HowTo] ClockWorkMod Recovery

Thanks to Trekfan422991 for cluing me in on the Optimus 3D recovery.
Working:
Nandroid
ADB (after special driver install, need to tweak recovery for it to work with normal drivers)
Mounting USB to computer
Flashing zip files
Dangerous:
Fix Permissions (caused lots of crazy issues, fix by wiping data if you use it)
Sdparted (the sdcards are mount incorrectly, this will probably destroy your device)
I am in the process of making a recovery specifically for our device, it is mostly done and will be posted here when it is ready!
What you are going to need:
ADB (and know how to use it, don't ask in here)
Rooted Phone (again, that will not be covered, don't ask in here)
Optimus 3D recovery image [Download]
If you don't understand something in that list, DO A SEARCH AND LEARN, don't clutter the thread with crap!
Lets get started!
Lets start by getting the recovery.img file on the phone. Open up a cmd prompt and type:
Code:
adb push recovery.img /data
The rest of this will be done on the phone shell. In the cmd prompt type:
Code:
adb shell
We will need to have su access, In the cmd prompt type:
(If you haven't allowed shell su in SuperUser now would be a good time to accept the root request on the phone.)
Code:
su
Now we are going to backup your current recovery to your sdcard. In the cmd prompt type:
(make sure your sdcard is not mounted to your computer)
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6 of=/sdcard/mmcblk0p6.backup bs=4096
After that is done we are going to flash ClockWorkMod Recovery! In the cmd prompt type:
Code:
dd if=/data/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6 bs=4096
Congrats! You now have ClockWorkMod Recovery! In the cmd prompt type:
(each line is single command)
Code:
rm /data/recovery.img
reboot
How to enable ADB access: (only if it's not working already)
Download and install: (unzip and install the 2 exe files)
http://www.mediafire.com/?j5m1plnvzb8r0zc
While booted into ClockWorkMod Recovery, go into your device manager, you should see an "LGE Android Composite Device" with a yellow triangle on it.
right click on it, update driver software...
select browse my computer for driver software
select let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
click the "Have Disk" button
click the "browse" button
browse to;
for 64bit:
C:\Program Files (x86)\LG Electronics\LG Android Driver\64BitADB
for 32bit:
C:\Program Files\LG Electronics\LG Android Driver
and select lgandadb.inf
click "ok"
From that list select "Android Sooner Single ADB Interface"
click "next"
click "yes" on the popup

I found a few modes, but no drivers yet so I don't know what they are. Even if we break stuff the kernel and recovery are separate, so technically we should always be albe to get back into recovery to fix stuff.
thankyou DG for getting this started..
so now with my clockworkmod i just made a backup of stock rom... if i say change the framework and I get boot loop.. will this clockwork mod be able to restore the original rom without any problems???
tiny problem... might just be missing something... but after i made my backup and i choose reboot system now... it just goes back to recovery... how do i boot up my phone!!!
sorry if it is obvious... im super tired...

I got mixed up as to what partition to flash, you just flashed a recovery image over the kernel... its ok tho.
follow my instructions to the su part, then do this.
// this will restore the kernel
dd if=/sdcard/mmcblk0p5.backup of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5 bs=4096
// this will backup recovery
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6 of=/sdcard/mmcblk0p6.backup bs=4096
// this will flash cwm
dd if=/data/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6 bs=4096
OP is fixed!
edit--
and you have no adb access, this is going to get interesting!

Thanks so much to DG & Trekfan, I've been looking everywhere for CWM!
I cannot find the download link to the recovery - in the quote above from the OP, where it says download, is that supposed to be a download link? I don't know if there's a typo or if I'm just missing something, but the "download" word doesn't link to anything for me. Instead, I thought I'd try searching for it in the optimus 3d forums, but search is down too Does anyone have a link?

After CWM is installed and working on our device, would it be safe to fix permission in "ROM Manager," or does that just fix permissions through whichever recovery is currently installed?
I'm guessing someone here knows how ROM manager works in this regard, but if not, I'd be happy to be a guinea pig... after all, I can make/restore backups now! : )

Sorry for being OT but I must agree: if designgears made a Thrill ROM that's Cognition-esque then I'd consider keeping my Thrill, but considering he already has a ROM for the GSII, I imagine he's going to get the AT&T Galaxy S II? Side note, you know you've really earned some serious nerd-cred when other nerds (who you don't even know) speculate what your next cell is going to be

Not waiting on dg here. Think you missed the "let's" part. Working on a Thrill ROM as we speak. Just got the Thrill about an hour ago and I already dumped the system image, de-odexed it, created an updater-script, added root and busybox, removed bloat, and updated a few apps. Time to start theming, modding framework, and tweaking.
Im also working on a ROM but if we cannot flash zips with CWM then how am I supposed to flash the ROM? Are you going to flash it with Heimdall or something?

Oh, good to hear! Man I really have to sit down and try to learn some more technical stuff sometime, because ROM creation, and not even just the theming aspects, is so appealing to me.
Maybe you can create a thread placeholder and describe what you've done so far? We're really getting OT, sorry all.

Oh, I thought you could flash zips through adb after doing the fix? Or no? (((edit: wait, no, I was thinking about pushing .apks through ADB, not flashing .zip files))) Hopefully this is something DG's new recovery might address. If no to both, could you distribute ROMs via nandroid backup files of a fresh ROM installation? It would be incredibly inefficient, but it would work, right?

Flash recovery with adb

Really didn't want to start a new topic, but couldn't find an answer anywhere. I'm trying to flash dg's recovery with adb. When ever I try to push the file I get permission denied. I have su working with adb, and adb is working correctly. What am I doing wrong? Thanks to any one that can help.

I am having the same exact problem you are. I am running windows 7 and even tried cmd and run as admin but that didn't work either. Anyway yea any help would be appreciated. Also yes my phone is rooted and in Debug Mode when trying to push recovery.img.
Hmm, sorry I don't know. Fix permissions maybe, if you can? Stupid little things like making sure usb debugging is on?
Just a heads up, questions belong in a different section ("Q&A for Thrill" if it exists, or general I think), they take that stuff pretty seriously around here, and if you end up reading and learning here for a while, you'll understand why!
switch to your ADB directory (or at a command line if you already set your environment variables) and type adb root then try again. It might work

adb root didn't work. Said adbd cannot run as root in production builds. Also I do have USB Debugging enabled as well as Rooted the device. As for fixing permissions I would need CWM First to be able to get to that option

ls -l (then look at the data directory and it's permissions should now be drwxrwxrwx)
Try it again after that. It's because the /data directory is not set to R/W by default.

It says Mr. Clown is the moderator, and his sticky says not to ask questions. I don't know if I've actually seen him on here though, so I see where you're coming from, the thrill isn't getting much traffic! But you're right, no q&a section.

Sorry if this is the wrong section. No q/a for the thrill. And i didn't know if the general forum was the place for adb question. Again sorry my fault. Thanks for all replays but im still stuck with the same thing.

Oh hey no worries mate. I really couldn't care less, considering how empty Thrill Development is, and I would have came to the same conclusion as you. All I meant to do was give you a heads up that some people get angry about that kind of thing
Well my issue is i cannot get the recovery.img pushed to the phone...ive downloaded it and don't know where to place it for it to send...when i do adb push recovery.img/data it just gives me a list of all the adb commands. I was gonna try to use root explorer and manually push it but i dont know where to place it...any suggestions?
Put the recovery.img in your android-sdk tools folder before you try to push

Hey can one of you guys possibly upload a stock recovery backup. I think mine is borked as I tried to go back to stock and it keeps going into clockworkmod recovery when setting up factory defaults in the stock rom. It would be much appreciated.
thanks

OK I'm not trying to be rude here but you started a new thread that is a little misleading in the title to ask for help that you already asked about in the other thread? This is not a novice install... The instructions are clear, if you can't get it installed by following the clear guide... You may not want to install this. Sorry Devs but when you take your time to make CLEAR guides for us... yet people can't follow instructions then spam.It irritates me.

The instructions may be clear, but are almost always only available in English. XDA is international and judging from his sentences, English is probably not his primary language.
It bothers me too when people create pointless threads (esp with misleading titles). I try to imagine myself on a non-English forum, desperate for help. Even with Google translate, I doubt I could make sense of their rules or "clear" guides.

in install progress that ask you must press 0 or 1, after downloading and install kernel of ubuntu , what key must be pressed?
i dont see any line like umount. i see data lose :|
message is this:
Code:
Repartition to create ext3 volume for Ubuntu.
umount: can't umount /media/internal:Invalid argument
Did the pervious line say somthing about not being able umount /media/internal? if so, press 1, otherwise press 0.
DO NOT PRESS 0 IF DID SAY SOMTHING; THIS CAN LEAD TO DATA LOSS! If it did say somthing, reboot and try again.
after reboot i see this line. external memory may be data loss?
