[APP]MJ's Strain Guide Free[V1.7] - Windows Phone 7 Apps and Games

Hello everyone on this forum,
I have been working on continued development of my app MJ's Strain Guide which can be found from this Thread. I have taken the idea that was being developed on WM6.5 and brought it to WP7 after seeing no one has made an app for us medical patients. I have programed so far over 340 different strains ranging from Sativa, Indica, and Hybrid. This app tries to focus on the patient as a grower and a smoker to help a patient locate a strain that will best address their symptoms with the proper properties. This app does not promote nor condone smoking illegally and/or commercial growing. This app is an educational tool for the patient who is seeking more knowledge on what they are putting into their body and what relief will come.
Here is a preview of the app running:
Updated Video!!!!
This video is of the premium version but on the free version there are ads displayed at the bottom. They both contain the same amount of strains.
MJ's Strain Guide Free:
Deep Link to MJ's Strain Guide Free.
***history***
Version 1.7 - Added a new item into the app. The new item is called Cannabis THC Info. This section gives information on what THC is and an explanation of why I wont include THC levels as there is now way to accurately determine an amount of THC in a strain as it is mainly related to the growers skill level itself.
Version 1.6 - added several more strains. this is a mini update but the app is now available to every WP7 Marketplace around the world!
App Version: 1.5.0.5 - initial release
The app is released in many different WP7 markets!
I hope you all enjoy!!!

now thats a fine app!!! when are u planing to release it and is it going to be on the marketplace?

Thank you. I have already updated it to be mango ready as well as added more as in interaction. Instead of a visual showing a selection now there is hepatic feedback. I also fix a few typos as well as made the main page a pivot control so it's not cluttered with links on the bottom. The new pivot page is an about page which contains the links now for strain suggestion. Tomorrow will be day five of submission. Its so close to passing once its approved I will push this update. It should pass as I ran it though the market submission tool and it passed everything as far as I know. Full boot time was 3 - 3.3 seconds. In the current release I am currently waiting for publishing has set up in the @Support link a pre setup email template the makes it easy for me to know what u want to see. I might make the template more complex. I will add a support email link as well in the new version.
Edit: super tired have some typos in this post. I will post the link asap once it is approved.
Edit 2: i have attached some screenshots of the updated version. I really want to get this update out as it has much more in it compared to the the one currently. i have not added any more info just functionality and made things look a little nicer.

Is it going to a paid app or a free one?

Its a free app. Here is a paid version but there is nothing different between the apps. They are exact clones of each other just the free one has a ad bar at the bottom but it not really distracting from the app plus there no way of accidentally hitting one. I have spent several hundred hours building this app but have learned a lot in the process but broke as hell so i have ads, sorry. I will also give the same feedback response time for both as in feedback or suggestions. I will be at times a few days slower to update the free one depending on my time restraints. I am also currently in the process of making a MJ cookbook app as well. I'm just getting my recipes organized. It will go through how to make butter and other cooking ingredients which requires marijuana. This will be good for those who don't smoke or can't. I am also working with a diabetics person to design some recipes for those patients. Must have love for everyone.
Update:
I am still waiting on Microsoft to accept my app. its been 9 days now. I have in that time done more work on the app and have added more strains to the list as well as change the home screen UI a little bit. i also improved speed on the app as well as improved the animation on the home page. The emails you would send on suggestions or support has been updated to a @cannapps.com email address instead of the current email. this will allow me to be quicker on contact. I am ready to push this update ASAP so once i get word i will push it through. Im hoping to hear from them tomorrow

Well after a month of waiting and fixing one minor thing just related to theme (as in white theme, black theme) The app has been approved. It is now live in the marketplace. Check the first post for the link

Just wanted to post an update for everyone. I am planning on updating the app with new strain and some new features in the next two weeks after my move is complete. Also a cookbook app is in the works as well.

i'll stay tuned ;D

Just a quick update... I have submitted a mini update to the app that adds a couple more strains to the list that I was able to confirm more stats on. Takes a while on each strain as I strive for accuracy. This update also should be available globally upon Microsoft approval. The next update should have a search feature as I am learning how to implement it and maybe a save image feature.
Sent from my HD7 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App

update is now live. if you cannot find it yet give it a day as sometimes Microsoft is slow to update there marketplace but full approval went through for the update. This will now allow the app on all markets. updated first post.

I am planning another update soon which will add more strains as well as the ability to take notes on a strain your growing within the strain details page. That will come once MJ's CookBook is complete which its looking good so far. More updates soon

Good luck teleknEsis!

One of our own made it into Round 2 of the Google IO challenge! Developer teleknEsis had this to say about it...
The first round was just 6 obscure Android questions that we had to answer in 30 minutes. Top 200 people went on to round 2.
Round 2 was to create an Android version of the HTML5 countdown clock on the homepage of the google io site. They changed up the site today for St Pattie's day and changed the bouncing colored balls to floating 4-leaf clovers, but it's still the same concept more or less. We had about 20 hours to do it (although less for me b/c I had to wait to get off work)
So I created an app for Android that has little bouncy Androids instead of colored balls.

Finally made the transition to full-time Android developer about a month ago. Spent the previous couple years playing around with Android and last 6 months staying up all night coding pet projects. It's good to feel as though I have 'arrived'.

HERE'S a little more about the contest itself. I'm sure everyone will join me in congratulating teleknEsis and wishing him luck in the future. Hopefully he'll be able to update us with his progress here.
Thanks.
Thanks for letting us know and good luck to our XDA Dev!!
Good Luck! I hope He wins.

Thanks guys, I definitely appreciate the support! I don't think I'm going to find out if I won until April 4th but until then I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
If anyone would like to test the app I submitted send me a PM and I'll send you a link to download, and in the mean time I will let you guys know if I hear anything!
Please keep us updated!
And if you want to make your app free public in XDA I can write an article about it.
Let me know via PM
Good luck!
Congratulations for getti this far dude! Hope you win!

A not so happy ending...
Well, I'm sad to announce I was not one of the top 10 Android winners
It seems they gave a lot of credit to final app size (even tho mine was still 20 kb) and a few of the people used some tools to shrink the final apk. Once I found out about this I did it to my apk as well and was on par with their size (11 kb).
It's disappointing, but at the same time, I'm still incredibly happy how things turned out. I was w/in the top 38 people who competed and that in and of itself is something to be proud of.
I also learned a TON from this challenge because prior to it I had never done custom animations or even worked with the Canvas class - both of which I can say I'm very comfortable with now. So in only 9 hours I learned how to do custom animations and created an awesome app - AMAZING!
So, long story short, while I may not have won, I'm still holding my head up high and there's always next time.
I did, however, turn my submission into a live wallpaper and made it the system clock rather than a countdown clock. I stuck it on the market for $0.99 so who knows, if it sells like hot cakes then maybe I will have enough $$ to buy an I/O ticket on eBay.
So.... what are you waiting for?! Go buy my app and check it out!!!

[APP] Funny Jokes [R] 2011/7/24 [U] 2011/7/31

Last version failed certification because it has an "Adult Jokes" section.
This is a later version with more jokes categories and profile viewing feature.
Name: FunnyJokes
Info:
The FunnyJokes app on windows will lighten your mood even on a rainy day. Read the funniest jokes with FunnyJokes on windows phone and share them with your friend. The app allows you to read, publish, comment, like/dislike jokes. The dev is devoted to providing a pleasant user experience. Will listen to and respond users' requests by providing frequent update. Will make FunnyJokes the most feature rich jokes app on windows phone.
Developer Note:
For the past three weeks, I have been working on my first app on the windows phone platform. Its called FunnyJokes. Its a small app that allows people to read, publish and comment on the funniest jokes.
The process of development was a lot of fun. I started the development with 8 months of experience using a HD7, some familiarity with C#, no knowledge on Silverlight and Azure. Through my past experience, I found out that the best way to learn about a platform is to learn through developing. I first quickly read through the basic tutorials provided on the App Hub, then created a template app using visual studio. Whenever I needed to implement a feature that I wasn't sure how to do it, I would search on the internet to get the solution. In the following posts, I would also share some of the technical challenges and how I solved it. So stay tuned.
The app was submitted to the Marketplace yesterday, pending on certification. I am sharing the XAP file here. So if you have a developer unlocked phone, give it a try. I would love to hear some feedback. I plan to provide frequent updates to bring more features to the app. Some of the upcoming features are: Multi-language support, user profile view. Hopeful, it would be the best joke reading and sharing experience on windows phone.
Hi, guys, any comments on the app? I will really appreciate any comments.
Some text cut-off in the joke content page. Other than that, pretty good!
Thanks. I will fix this problem in the next release.

Android Tablet Apps

First off, I'd like to say hi and I hope all of you are doing well. I come to you in request for some support as well as an offering that some of you should be able to benefit from.
I've been working hard as possible to produce a website for Android tablet users, which is 100% free of charge. No catches, no gimmicks, no nothing. Before anyone flips out thinking I am advertising, consider this: I could have dropped a link and left. But I didn't I'm here, explaining my cause, and letting you know that there is a wonderful resource that you did not know about, and should enjoy!
Anyways, the website is www.androidtabapps.com (and I won't even link it here! unless a mod says I can) and its sole purpose is to become the internet's largest database of applications that are specifically designed to work on Android tablets. This website will benefit each and every one of you who own an Android tablet because you won't have to sort through hundreds of non-tablet-optimized applications to find something good.
My request from any of you (and its ONLY a request), is that if any of you have, or know of, an application that is designed FOR an Android tablet, to please use the submission form located on my site so that I may add it? I am doing all of this work by hand and while I admit that it's painstakingly time consuming, I am enjoying myself while adding the applications because I am finding some really cool stuff so far.
I look forward to seeing some of you on the site. Pay it a visit, let me know what you think so far. Thanks!
Mine, just in case I need it for something in the future.
As a promotional offering for any application developer:
If you are a developer who has created an application that is written to run specifically on Android tablets, or is WELL optimized for Android tablets, please contact me using the form on my site to receive a 7-day free featured advertisement on my site. Mention XDA somewhere, please. The featured advertisement of your application will be found in the big slider at the top of the home page among other pages. This is limited to the first three developers who contact me, so act fast! Android Tablet Apps is already getting good traffic and I'd love to help some of you developers out a bit!
I'm offering free ad placements for 7 days for the next 3 developers to contact me with information regarding their Android tablet app that's on the market!
Thanks, this will be very useful for me!
I'll let you know if I have any Tablet Apps.

[In Progress] Wallpaper App

I have realized that over the last few months I have created too many different wallpapers for me to just place links on my websites so I am in the process of trying to create an APP that will not only showcase a good variety of my wallpapers available for others to use, but also I am looking into how I can incorporate some tools for wallpapers as well within the APP. Keep in mind that I am a graphic designer first, so while my wallpapers are often great (as many people have told me) I dont necessarily have the full set of skills yet to really finish this app because my coding skills are mainly website based. So any help or suggestions that anyone can provide to me would be appreciated. If there are any tools or actions you think I should add into the APP then let me know, just as if you can provide any insight as to how I can get some of these things completed let me know as well. Also if you are strong with android development and would like to help then I would be willing to work out an arrangement (one in which you get paid if your work is good). I will try to add some examples of my wallpapers below in either a zip file or as single images.
***ALSO.... Let me know if you think this is a good idea, basically Im asking if you would be interested in this app***
Thanks,
Casper
*some of the wallpapers I put in the attachment section may have icons that I also designed pictured in them. If you want the wallpaper itself just send me a message.

Re: request DG or customizing my wallpaper designs
Thanks for feedback, also for being one of the few people who notice and appreciate clean designs in general.... My favorite style of designing and the principal I often live by when working is "K.I.S.S." (keep it simple stupid)... I get so many jobs from clients that want ridiculously cluttered or chaotic designs for logos, banners, flyers, ads, wallpapers, and even icons that they want me to cram way too much into and ultimately end up looking horrible in my opinion, but as long as they like it and of course they pay for the design, I just try to do what they request.
As far as my progress on the actual development of the app I stated initially as the purpose of this thread, I am at a standstill because I lost basically all of my progress over last 2 weeks roughly, when the VPS I set up to host my files on crashed several days ago. Normally I have a backup system in place that continuously syncs my files every hour from the computers I use to develop or design major projects on, but I was forced to work within the virtual system online all because a completely different issue caused my actual laptops I use to do most work on, to basically be shutdown for a few days while I checked my other systems and the network they run desperately on for issues and then had to wipe my main PCs clean then reinstalled the OS and other software and applications from scratch but of course I wasn't able to get back online and running on the backup systems network so that what I had completed on the VPS online could be downloaded to my local network drive and ultimately would have saved me from losing almost 2 weeks of work on a development that I do not normally work on, because I am still kinda new to Android development in general but also have not really done much work on creating apps for android from scratch so its even worse to lose data and files that really seemed to be something I'm not entirely sure if I can even recreate at all. I am a graphic designer first so I don't even use some of the necessary elements of android development at all for my normal work projects. There was definitely a big part of me that knew I should've held off on working on this app until I was back on my normal systems/set up and could keep things backing up to the secondary network drive because every small step I took working in a foreign environment with a system I barely grasped on this level.... There's no doubt some of my progress was just a matter of luck and timing, mixed with a lot of trial and error after hours of reviewing guides and other peoples work just to see if I could piece things together when I was stumped.
Now, I apologize for the very long post but I say all of this because I have been so frustrated by everything that has happened recently that just don't know if I can start over again. First I have a ton if real work to catch up on and other projects to get completed for clients asap so I don't really have the free time to get back into creating this app, second I literally felt like my brain hurt at times when staring at code or reviewing guides tutorials or data from other people to get little things working for me in this apps creation, so I just don't know if I even want to start over and try to do This crap again. So that's everything and it does kinda feel good to get it out and I guess we shall see is all I can say when it comes to completing this app....for now I'm taking a break from android development and apps.
Sent from Tapatalk app using Nexus 7-3G running god knows what ROM I recently flashed out of boredom or to test out just because I'm a serial flasher and addicted to android devices and can't seem to settle on one set up for any of my tablets/phones
Dude no worries... Sh*t happens... Life comes first you gotta take care of your work first. Songs lie you are a pretty successful graphic designer. Any tips for a noob to get into the graphic designing world? I just don't even know where to start looking for business, what to charge, out anything about the process for submitting drafts and final products. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated... Thanks!

I meant to reply a while ago in regards to your question about personalizing or customizing wallpapers I have already designed to the requests of others, yeah I have been known to offer people the chance to request different colors or other minor tweaks to my original designs in order to help make it more of their own. Within the next few days I'll be posting up several more examples of some of my designs so if there are any wallpapers that you are interested in having me alter a little just PM or email me directly with exactly what you would like changed and within a few days usually I will send you the updated/altered file via email. I've also started to put together some of the icons I have worked on in the last few months and I think I'm going to release some of them either in a pack or maybe even as an app if I have the time to make something quick and dirty.
BTW*** as soon as you mentioned the idea of changing the paint design to ICS blue I was like "why didn't I think of that before", cause I love light blue in general so ICS blue was one of my favorite color schemes. I still use it on several devices whenever I theme my own stuff. Great suggestion. i'll be adding that new color of the paint wallpaper design up here as well.:good:
Thanks again....Casper
again i'll post some other wallpapers this week, but for now here is the new logo for my next web project and future app as well titled "Androids-Anonymous"

Yeah I can definitely give you some info on starting out in the design field, I actually just helped a student of mine who graduated last semester in the fall to get started out with her photography and design business that she asked for some help in establishing things with. So some of the things I passed on to her will apply to you as well possibly, if you want more specific examples and information then it's best to just PM or email me directly and I can send you everything from templates that are good to use for contracts with clients or invoices or documents that may help. As far as pricing goes and what to charge, thats probably the hardest thing to establish for any designer no matter if they just started out of even as I have been doing this for over 10 years now I still find it hard to price jobs for clients up front. Part of it does depend on your experience and ability in general, but part of it is just up to you personally and you have to decide if your gonna be more affordable or more realistic with your rates. But again, just contact me directly and I can get a better idea of what you want to know exactly as well as what your capabilities are and how you should approach things. Hope I can help...
