Did anyone go higher than 825MHz? - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Title says all.idk if its even possible

When I go higher than 748MHz, it causes bootloop.
I also think that overclocking is useless, well you get a bit higher Quadrant scores, but it also causes higher battery use, and it´s not so good for the CPU, I think.
And going higher than 825 MHz is, in my opinion, mad.

@xperianpro-dont troll,its just a question.
@codfreak-well,i personally dont use overclock because i need battery, and i dont use my phone for anything else beside wifi, facebook and taptalk.sometimes games but not much.for me normal frequency is from 710mhz to 787mhz.

Hi, how did you get this score ??! which ROM use ?
thanks

My phone can OC to 768 Mhz with no boot/restART
But when i test my phone @ 787 Mhz or higher, it's good at SetCPU application but when i'm going to home (LP) my phone reboot(??)
Luckily i got 768 because no many people can get that! haha

@Xperianpro/as-mario
Our processor might be able to go higher but the problem is the voltage. Each x8 has a slightly different voltage supplied to the processor so some can OC to 825, some can OC only to 748 etc. I can OC to 768. I heard that the LG GT540 can OC to 900 MHz.
--
Basically ppl can OC to 825 but it's kinda rare. Usually, most can OC to 748 only. It might be possible to OC to over 825 but it will be unstable for most people.

Our X8 Voltage is 3-4-5-6-7
if you wanna get higher frequencies you must overvolt and melt your Processor

hi I was wondering how high you can over clock your hero. I have to 758 mhz and it is perfectly stable. Is there any thing i can use to over clock it more.
768 is the highest I've seen.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
I've heard that 710 is really the highest you can reliably run, I wouldn't risk the damage just to go that little bit higher.

Thats all I have seen to. I did here that you could get it a little over 900 MHz.
LOL, it would probably catch on fire at 900.

I'm sorry, but I don't believe this.
Mine is closked to 691 and it totally stable. If I push to 710 it starts to become less stable.
Can you show us screenprints ?
Im running 2.2. ShootMe doesn't work on this rom, go download and test for yourself.
im also running 2.2. if you wanna try it out for yourself download ([Rom] Darchdroid v2.7 "KangSlayer" | Complete, OC'd, MMS, Camera, Everything!!) I am at 768 MHz. I use setcpu, profiles. when the screen is off its at 518 MHz.
sry because i am new i cant poste urls

Mine is stable at 787 also.. Ever hero is different.. Iv also been running OC since the day toastcfh figured it out over 2 months ago. I have ran 768mhz min and max for an entire day with no problem (i was benchmarking and forgot). Some people cant even run 710mhz without there phone becoming unstable.
Also 768mhz is the clock speed most kernels are maxed at cuz the highest clock speed the hero can be clocked to with a benefit is 768mhz (darch will include 787 in his kernels sometimes). 787mhz will actually give the same or worse results as 768 because it, in a sense, clogs the CPU. We cant raise our FSB of the cpu.
Toastcfh, the reason who got us OC, has actually pushed it as far as he could go. He got way higher then 787. But like i said, there is not benefit of it.
Our phones wont blow up or stop working because the speeds are high. If you keep the temps down you really dont have anything to worry about, temps are the main reason why OC will kill the life of a CPU.
Awesome Information, Thanks.

[Q] Overclocking ?

I have a question: why I can't overclock my SGS past 1.2 ghz. When I try to set for example 1.3 or 1.4 it freezes and I take out the battery in order to make it work again. Is there something I do wrong, is it a general problem with more SGSs? If somebody can , I really appreciate. Thanks
it is a kernel thing.
the kernel has to support those frequencies.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
I tried with tegrak overclocking with voodoo kernel (the application itself doesn't need a kernal that supports those frequencies) and with Supe Optimized Kernel (1.4 ghz) and voltage control and setcpu and is the same result:freezing.
Not every cpu is capable of stable overclocking past a certain threshold. You have probably hit the max speed your cpu can maintain.
I agree with you but then why there are other people with the same phone as me that can overclock them at 1.4 ghz?
With CM7 or miui and either bilboa or zacharius kernel you can overclock to 1300 but I haven't found a kernel that allows 1400 either, I think those that are doing it are hacking the CPU settings themselves.
My phone gets really hot at 1300 running apps like dungeon defender so 1400 might just be a bit too much
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I am using Darky's 9.3 ROM but my problem is that i can't even touch 1300 mhz because my phone freezes.
Maybe a dumb question, but, do you overvolt as well as overclock? Maybe the cpu isnt getting enough juice?

+1... not sure if there is much benefit at all to undervolting.. it just seems to make it immediately less stable...
can someone shed some light?
I've seen someone test this on another forum somewhere, and the difference the undervolting makes to the battery length is negligible..

The principles of ovetclocking a PC also aplly to phones. Undervolting reduces the power available to the CPU. Undervolt a little and you'll save a little power. Undervolt.too much and the CPU won't get enough power to do basic functions hence freezing.
Every CPU has a limit to which you can over clock. You can overvolt to a point but then then the CPU reaches its limit.
From what I understand (read in another post) the hummingbird processors are not suited to overclocking. Where the arm such as that in the Motorola milestone clock really well. (You can oc a 600mhz milestone to 1ghz before you start seeing instability)
Hope this helped.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I understand the intention of undervolting as i am pretty good with PCs. Got my good old i7 overclocked constantly. But undervolting on the SGS has yet to show me any definitive advantages.

[Q] Help!!!! Issue with CM7.2RC5.0.2

its because our mini is not stable over 800 mhz

Agree with you bro.. Not all Minis can handle 800 MHz and above.. Mine is only stable at 787 Mhz.. So that panic when you can't OC your Mini to 800 Mhz..
i saw some guy overclockin @ 864 @ benchmark screenshot thread. thats y got curious
Can you tell me how to overclock with stock rom 2.3.6 on galaxy mini. I have root acess. Thanx in advence
Do you really have to overclock your phone that high? Better not take the risk
bro, or if you still want to do it, be sure to take off the back cover
of your phone and face it on something that will somehow cool it down,
like efan or something like that, cause overclocking your
phone that high uses more battery and temperature goes high like hell, havent use rc5.2 thoughbut i have tried overclocking that high before with other builds.
oh, it is risky to everclock for the sake of your hardware.
Not every phone is equal.
I don't know if you read it, but squad baked his phone due to overclocking.
So please don't say there could nothing happen to the phones.

[Q] CPU step on Semaphore?

Hi guys, some times ago I flashed Semaphore, but it haven't any CPU step higher than 1000 MHz. Can I have more CPU steps, like Devil, in Semaphore? (100-1400 MHz)
(Sorry for my bad english)
Download Semaphore Manager from the market. You can overclock using that app. Mind you, semaphore kernel can get glitchy at ~114% OC and up, so you might want to go with 110 and build gradually until you find a sweet spot...

Yeah, I know that, but with Live oc my limit is... 106 % :crying: I have tried every thing but I don't know why the CPU is so limited...
Heh, mine caps at 108%. It would be nice to "normally" oc to 1200mHz on semaphore. I could get 1296mHz with 108% like on Devil.

the "live oc" has better performance of "simple oc" (at equal overclocking), because "live oc" overclock all frequencies and not only the higher frequency.
But with "live oc" you can raise less the frequencies

The only limit is your device. If your CPU/GPU doesn't like OC - you have to live with it (or buy another I9000 :cyclops: )

Theoretically yes, but if you overclock BUS, your CPU, GPU, and RAM are OC'ed. On stock BUS is clocked at 200mHz. If you use LiveOC 110%, you overclock everything by 10% - GPU goes from 200mHz -> 220mHz, CPU from 1000mHz -> 1100mHz. That's why it's more unstable than normal OC.

You might be able to get a higher stable overclock with voltage increase; available in later versions of semaphore, but that's something you'd need some guidance doing, and of course there are the general risks of that.

have u done any overclocking in your whole life ? ...
you cant overclock from settings only one core. to overclock only one core u have to do a surgery to the cpu chip........
u cant overlock if the kernel does not support it. stock rom limit is 1500

Dude I just rooted my phone like 2 days ago so don't excpect me to be a pro at these stuff xD (I am a noob) But you didn't really answer my question tho :s
First,You need to install a kernel that supports overclocking, and after that you can use app like trickstermod or tegra overclock. But i would strongly suggest you to read more about rom, kernel, recovery etc. before asking such questions.

the phone doesnt have to do anything with the procedure u can overclock anything. from just a coffee machine to a kitchen , from a pc to a phone !! if a cpu has more than one core, u cant just overclock only one of them. I answered i told u the limit of the stock rom and kernel is 1500. u cant overclock. u must have a custom kernel that can support overclocking.
that means u need to unlock bootloader and flash at least a custom kernel if not a whole rom.
<<EDIT>> and just for the knowledge ! take for example samsung s3. it has a lower cpu frequency but the phone is little faster than our optimus. overclocking isnt only about rising the frequency. u can also overclock by slightly giving more voltage and faster correspondence. u have to read a lot to understand how it works. for example a mistake can make u have a slow 1700 cpu but a fast 1200 cpu. read read read read

set governor to performance, set cpuquiet to userspace. you need trickstermod app & custom kernel in order to tune this.

your cores are already at 1500. to set a perfomance governor to make them run permanently at 1500 will cause u a huge battery drain and cpu overheat. when u will go play a game the heat will enable automatically the cpu to rest so u will have actually around 1000 mhz speed. the cpu HAS to rest. the phones dont have many big fans inside to cool the board and the cpu. thats why people prefer ondemand governor usually. the cpu rests until the 1st core go to 90% usage or more and then the other cores are enabled too. when the cpu usage go below 90% one core is working again and when there isnt any need for cpu usage , the core goes down to 102 mhz.
overclocking
before you get your phone overclocked you should but in consideration that you may break your phone..over heating .... battery consumption.. don't look for performance alone >> you cant get performance with out battery drain or over heating >> just thing before you do that
You should look at how often cores 3&4 are even active. It's very rarely on my Nexus

for the developers that know what to do , max for our phone is 1700. originally the safe overclocking at any cpu since many many years , is around 20%. after that it needs cooler. the better the cooler the more u can overclock.
Hi, trickster show me that my phone don't use the 1700 MHz. Y?

Probably it is not overclocked.
The stock higher operating frequency of p880 is 1500 MHz, and that is what your trickster diagram is showing.
So. Either your phone is notoverclocked, or in whatever kernel you are using maximum frequency is set to 1500 MHz.
