[Q] sdcard mount fail - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a problem on my i9000 galaxy s
It stuck in a loop on galaxy logo at first
after that i decided to change the rom
when the phone rebooted by odin and came to recovery mode to install packages,
it shows me an error like this:
E:faild to mount /sdcard (File exists)
...
.
I tried to wpe data factory and wipe cache
but it's still get the error and stuck in a loop on startup.
any solution plz?

I think you will need to flash back to stock , i had this issue with mines. I flashed back to stock with Odin.

How can i do that?

Go yo samfirmware.com and go into toolbox section and flash stock gingerbread through Odin. instructions and guides are given on the site along with Odin software and stock gb files.

not worked

What happened ? And are you familiar with Odin ? Are you putting the correct files in the correct box ?

yes , yes, im familiar with odin.
I tried to flash my phone with a Rom that have bootloader.
my phone comes up with android 2.2.1 sucessfully BUT unfortunately my internal 8G sdcard is not unvailable yet.

Try flashing to GingeBread 2.3.4 (will post a link) but be very carefull when doing so, because semi-brick is possible. What rom did you try and flash. Read the tutorial carefully and use the odin they say to use.

Thanks for reply.
I've done every thing but it didn't come back. still my phone's memory is unavilable.
is it possible that it be hardware problem?
how can i be sure?

any suggestion ?

hi,
i appear to have the same problem.
have followed the intructions in the posted tutorial to the letter without joy.
can anybody help or does it need to go back to samsung?
thanks

download terminal emulator and type ls /dev/block/mmcblk0*
a normal phone has mmcblk0, mmcblk0p1 and mmcblk0p2.
if you don't see it, internal storage is probably broken.

What do you mean by Terminal Emulator?
I should install it on my phone or its a pc program?
I found a Terminal emulator for android but i can't install it because of "There's not enough space.."!!!

I have a SGS with firmware I9000XWJG5 and Root. I tried to do a Speed fix, but afterwards it was slower so i tried to flash the phone with the I9000XWJG5 firmware again.
After the flash, the phone rebooted and i came to the recovery menu. There the phone wrote:
update media, please wait
and in the next lines:
E: Can't mount /dev/block/st110
(invalid argument)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount DBDATA:
copy default media content failed.
Now when i try do start the phone, i get a black screen after the bright S
What i have tried: Flash agein with and without re-partition and Factory Reset
Has anybody an idea what i can do?
and sorry for my bad english
bump. can anyone help with this topic..
i am having some problem..
help us guys
thanks
Fixed... use odin 512
Thread moved in Galaxy S I9000 General.
I can definately help with this one, as I worked through it last night...
I found that if you're trying to flash the JG5 rom (as mentioned in Modaco's thread) with the 513 Pit file, then you'll get the black screen of despair!! For some reason the two combination of the two don't work.
However, if you do a google search for Odin PIT 512, then download this file
You will be able to download the 512 PIT file instead. Now use this in Odin3 to flash the JG5 rom and you should have no further issues....it worked for me.
I also discovered that Samsung have just released a later firmware, so I just flashed this one on top of the JG5 one...I have a nicely running phone now.
Hope this helps...it did me!
Mike
Mine was completely knackered. Couldn't get to recovery either. Flashed Modaco's MCR R3, after the JG5 flash, using all the files in the JG5 download. Working a treat...
Cheers,
BS...

Same here.
I tried JS3 and going back to JP6....and always the same result.
I'm obviously missing something. Maybe my 512.PIT is corrupted. I get the black screen and the same /dev/block.st110 errors in recovery.
i beleive you need to have a CSC file also for the odin flash.
i sorted mine like this:
Downloaded some JP2 odin files [used this as this was the only one on Samsung-firmwares that had all 3 PDA, Modem and CSC Files. flashed this using a .512 pit in odin. - this allowed the phone to boot normally.
connected to Kies and using reg hack [set to XEU] managed to update to JPY.
the following the Darky guide, flashed the CF Root kernel, installed the ROM Manager from the market, using the recovery mode installed the update.zip file for clockworkMod.
Formatted everything in ClockworkMod
Factory Reset in ClockworkMod
Installed Darky ROM V8.0 Wipe
thanks for your find !

thanks mate ! after a huge scare sorted mine with this firmware as well, this after I tried several other newer firmware packages from samfirmware and was ,slowly but surely ,starting to lose hope ...
for some reason this particular firmware JP2 seems to fix this problem

fix for black screen after flash with no recover or download mode working.
Hey All.
So like the subject says, you flash and then your phone restarts or whatever, and then you get the normal galaxy s startup, with the sound and the visuals, but then that's it. Henceforth you are greeted with the two lights (if its a Bell Vibrant) from your options and back keys.
To fix it use the attached file. Its called ADB or something - I just know it works. It was a fix for the galaxy s phones that didnt have the recovery/download mode stock.
so here is how it goes:
1. download adb to your desktop and unpack it (if its in winrar or zip or whatever) to a file folder named adb.
2. open a command prompt.
3. type "cd" and then the address of the "adb" folder. so for example it should be in C:\Users\your user name\Desktop\adb. where "your user name" is your user name a duh.
4. plug in your galaxy s via usb.
5. type "adb reboot download" in the command prompt. copy it using your mouse as well.
6. turn on your phone.
7. press enter in the command prompt, then keep copying and pasting and pressing enter until you see the download screen on your phone. each time you press enter it says device not connected or something but just keep trying.
the article i read:
can't post it but the thread is called "How to get the 3 button recovery mode working"

[Q] How to revert back to stock JPB after custom ROM and get rid of CD-ROM device?

Hi,
I need some help from you regarding following issue.
Lately I've loaded Darky 8.1 on my SGS, before I didn't use any custom ROM, nor rooted my device.
Few days later I decided to go back to stock froyo.
I flashed the phone via Kies with reg patcher set to SER (that's the original product code I had), and loaded JPB.
Now, when I connect the phone to PC, there appears a CD-ROM device in addition to internal and external cards. I've tried it on different PCs, the drive still appears.
I then flashed the phone once again, but this time via Odin with re-partition ticked, and 512 pit selected. No change.
Sure, I've made a wipe, formated internal card, deleted cache after each flash.
My questions are:
1. What I did wrong?
2. What does the re-partition option mean in reality? Does it delete all the internal partitions and create them again?
3. Is there any chance, that Darky's ROM changed something irreversible in the system, that cant' be fixed with simple firmware upgrade like I did?
4. Does 8.1 version by any chance touch bootloader or efs partitions during upgrade?
Btw, I never used any lagfixes.
Your comments are welcome and appreciated!
I would ask Darky if its his rom .More fu ups on this rom than any other .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818556
And take it back to stock Eclair then update via Kies .

It is pretty easy. I suppose that you have ClockWorkMod recovery, which is installed automatically with Darky's ROM.
Then just reboot to Download Mode, connect your phone to the PC,
and download JPB firmware. Password for that RAR file is samfirmware.com
Once extracted, startup Odin, and flash. You can use my howto, to find out howto use Odin to flash your phone. Once done, phone will reboot itself.
Reboot it to the recovery again, and select reformat internal SD-Card menu item.
After another reboot, you will have clean, factory-set phone, like you had in time when you have bought it.

galaxy S cant mount or read internal and external sd cards

hi all.
last few weeks i have been on darky's 10.4.2 rom and all has been well untill this morning. the phone shut off on its own. when restarted it boots fine but i cant mount both sd cards. could anyone shed some light on this issue.

i need to hav this fixed asap.
common guys i realy need some help here. as i am traveling abroad tomorrow.
thanx.
Oh interesting. How you can't mount? Can't mount to PC? Or phone never see sdcard?
Download terminal emulator and type this command
Su
mount -o bind /mnt/emmc /sdcard/external_sd
Oh sorry. Both sdcards? It's more advenced. Can you go to recovery and look if phone detects sdcard there?

getting into to cwm recovery is a hit and miss. most of the time i get android recovery 3E.
bump.....
Factory reset or odin flash to stock GB firmware. Mount it once and you're done.
i went back to a stock rom and its still the same. any other ideas.
Did you try to connect your phone via usb once @ home screen
yes i did but it still didn't work. the usb thingy showed up on the phone but it still did nothing after.
Hi , you could try just rooting the stock rom to get cwm then mount your drives in recovery.
can i flash the cwm with odin. if so where can i get the files?.

You should be able to find the required Kernel from the following link, then flash in PDA section of odin
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1225879
These are stock kernels with voodoo and CWM
Use with caution as these kernels will convert the file system to EXT4 from RFS (stock) on first boot This may cause issues as Voodoo reads from the internal SD and writes there as well.
If you read the first 2 posts on the thread you should be able to make a decision that you are comfortable with.

when on the linked page do a search (find) by holding the "ctrl" and "f" keys this will open a search window then type in JVQ and you will locate the kernel

I trust that this will assist.

Flashing just the PIT is a good way to erase all data on the phone as this will format all the partitions. Using a PIT without full firmware (3 file or 1 file) will result in a softbricked device.
And the CSC is only the carrier/consumer branding and will not resolve the issue of SDcards not being able to be read/mounted.
i tried flashing the file but i still cant mount the the sd cards.

can you now get into CWM recovery?
If so what messages do you get when attempting to mount SD cards?
i cant get into cwm. but in android recovery 3e i keep getting stuff like (E: db---file exsist or something)

soft bricked, cant find driver for download mode.

So basically I installed I wiped /system /data and /cache because I kept getting problems with CMW. Now I cant boot up or boot into CMW. I tried installing KIES to get it working but it still shows up as an unknown device. I tried on a another computer and it shows up as Gadget serial. I cant connect it with odin without the drivers so basically I cant do anything.... If anyone knows how I can solve this problem that would be great!
Alright, I tried on a third computer an was able to get it working. I flashed the stock rom and I keep getting:
E:format_volume: make_extf2fs failed on /dev/block/stl10
whenever I try to wipe data/factory. Not sure but I think somethings wrong with the partitions?
Try to install these drivers - http://code.google.com/p/insanity/downloads/detail?name=usb_drivers_GalaxyS_x64.zip&can=2&q=
Later just install stock 2.3.3 via Odin with modem drivers, then flash root and have fun with CWM again.
I have all the drivers so I can now flash via Odin. Only problem now is that I have an unbranded p1000 and I didn't take down the model version so I don't know which stock ROM to work with. Is there a stock ROM and modem that'll work with every p1000 model?
try with the one linked to in my signature.
The Gb-stock-safe-v5 from overcome.
It is a package containing JQ1 stock rom and other tools and bits.
The ROM itself is a complete package that has bootloader, pit files and other files.
There are even a few modem.bin files to choose from.
Download the PDF guide if you want to be sure how to place them in Odin.
Jump to page 7 of the PDF.
If you continue beyond page 7, that will be the guide to install Overcome ROM. So stop at page 7 and you have stock.
Actually all stock ROM for P1000 will work with your P1000, and JPZ is the most common modem to use.

[Q] Failed to mount efs, repartition failed, internal memory 0.0mb : PLease help

Hi friends ,
I am using Samsung S Advance since last eight month, Till now i have flash more than 300 nightly and custom roms over my mobile and evry time i succeeded, but two days back when i got stuck in omnirom I use ODIN to Flash Stock JB . My Phone Boot After that And got stuck on initial setting wizard everytime i try to pass that it shows
unfortunately samsung setting wizard stopped , so i can not pass that point ,
So i flash stock firmware again and again but everytime same problem
Then I reboot in Recovery which show message " fail to mount efs( invalid argument)
I ignore it and Start Recovery again and root my mobile using update.zip(which is temporary recovery) and then flash cocore kernel And try to restore my backup( I have 6 different rom backup , i tried them all) but every rom got stuck in bootloop .
Then I try to Flash CM10.2 but that also didn't work
Then I Flash some custom rom like sami-os and galexperia which are based on stock firmware and they start working but those roms are freezing a lot, When i try to install any software in those rom they says insufficient memory , I Check storage and it shows
"DEVICE MEMORY 0.00B"
Everytime I reboot all user data get wiped and evrytime setting wizard appear like first boot
I have tried to mount efs, data, ,system via cwm . There is error to mount efs via cwm . I mount data, system successfully but after every reboot they are unmounted.
So Made some search and finally decide to repartition via odin using PIT file given somewhere in this forum but odin shows "fail"
My Friend suggest me to revert back to gb but i couldn't find Indian firmware ( All sites give link to hotfile page which is banned), so i followed post in xda about downgrading from JB to GB and try to flash PIT, PDA , CSC file given by OP via odin but it fails everytime .
So again I flash JB via odin but same result( Got stuck in setting wizard)
So I Tried to root again using update.zip(which i mentioned earlier and which works for me everytime in past) but it switched off during update in recovery so now i can not start cwm now and can use only stock recovery and unable to flash custom rom.
I have Given All Details about how problem start and here is summary of all problems
1. fail to mount efs(invalid argument)
2. 0.0b internal memory
3. unable to repartition using ODIN
4. user data deleted on every boot and boot as first boot
5. can not pass setup wizard in stock firmware after flashing stock via Odin
I think i have messed up with internal memory and which is causing problem or my recovery is damaged.
please give me solution .
If any one have INDIAN GB firmware with pit, csc , pda, bootloader please upload and give link , i searched everywhere no link is working.
Thanks in advance
EDIT: I have successfully downgrade to GB and 0.0b internal memory problem is solved , for detail read 7th post
But still FACING " efs error" and unable to upgrade to jb
Every time i flash jb with odin it get stuck in start up in setting wizard with message " process com.google.process.gapps has stopped" and then " setting wizard stopped"
please help me to solve this
Any one need to know how i solved my problem of 0.0mb and downgrade GB he can read post and even PM me.

0.0b memory problem and downgrading GB is solved BUT still efs , JB error
Hi friends , Finally i have succeeded to downgrade to GB with given procedure in forum and solve low memory problem also
here is what happened
As i Said earlier when i follow procedure to downgrade to gb my phone stuck at samsung logo,
The problem was pit file given in that procedure was 8gb and my mobile was 16 gb with only 1gb usb storage remaining and it shrunk my memory and as my usb storage was full and it eat my whole internal memory so i again flash JB which is also not working but with recovery i flash Sami-OS which was working partially with lots of problem And i format my usb storage there and it shrunk to 3.9gb from 11gb then from download mode I flash GB as per this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2195673 and it start working , then I flash 16 gb pit file then official gb for my country and evrything is fine with GB it works flawless
BUT when i try to upgrade to JB via odin its showing same problem
when phone start there is warning" process com.google.process.gapps has stopped" and when try to go further "setting wizard stopped" and i got stuck in there again again
also recovery show failed to mount efs(invalid argument)
So please help me to get rid of this efs problem and Ugrade to JB

is your baseband working ok? I had a similar problem when flashing a rom, couldn't get out of setup wizard and also my baseband was XXXX as soon as i fixed the baseband and re-flashed the problem was gone, here is how:
I've flashed modemfs.img.md5 now 3G is working.
On another device (same model and region) I did:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 of=/sdcard/modemfs.img.md5
Copied generated file to my sdcard and did:
dd if=/sdcard/modemfs.img.md5 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2
