Is your screen a fingerprint magnet? - LG Optimus 2x

Just wondering if its just me or is it bothering you as well.
I realise the Gorilla glass on the Optimus 2x means it does not need a screen protector. But what do you do about the fact that it sticks your fingerprint so easily.
It looks very bad unless you wipe it every 5 minutes, and can also feel greasy after a period of time. Any ideas? Maybe there is a good anti-fingerprint/anti-smudge film you can get? Thanks

Some of us have "moisty" fingers by themselfs. Nothing to do about it. Glas wil always get fingerprinted.

wash hands? Use wet handcerchief?

Just thought maybe there was a way around it. My friends Galaxy S2 came with an anti-fingerprint film and doesn't stick any fingerprint even after weeks
From what I've read in the Accessories forum, there doesnt seem to be a good screen protector that does that with the O2x

My screen is protected by a Frosted film, anti-fingerprint as others call it. It works fine but the side of the screen aren't protected because of the curved edges.

Clarivue screen protectors are damn good.

Just got one for my Milestone, and must say very impressed with the Clarivue screen protectors.
Not only are they actually made in Japan (I can tell since labels are also in Japanese), they give you two, along with a wet wipe.
Was very easy to apply. The Anti-Glare one I got does reduce clarity significantly but at the same time appears to be completely finger-print proof.
It's on special (at the moment), and got a 10% discount coupon from my first purchase so think I might buy another pack (this time the ultra-clear one)
http://www.clarivue.com/motorola-milestone-screen-protector.html
I have Clarivue screen protector on my Milestone also, and it's perfect. The second one I put perfect, the first one still had some dust beneath. Anyway for the money I prefer Clarivue instead Boxwave.
Do you see any orange peel with the screen saver?
whaaat 11$? no way, just go to ebay and check those sellers from HK - you can get these things pretty cheaply (even ten times cheaper)...
I've got the cheapest antiglare on earth for my milestone as I hate fingerprints and also with the antiglare it seems like it is easier to swipe fingers across the screen as they don't "stick" to the default glossy screen.
However I get pretty weird colors probably because of refraction characteristics of the protector. Even though - pros>cons.
Can you suggest any seller for the HK one? At least you tried them already.

I would say any ebay seller with 90%+ rating si good.
Look good! But does the milestone really need a screen protector?

If you keep your phone in a "sleeve" or you don't use the phone in dirty conditions - I would say - it doesn't need a screen protector.
However I use a matte protector for two reasons:
-it feels better, my fingers "sticks" to too shiny surfaces like milestone and with the matte protector I think it feels more smooth to swipe across the screen
-no finger prints!
I totally agree. Mine right now sucks. I'd like to try the matte.

Thanks for this! Im alway want no finger prints!
can they delivered it to indonesia?
The Milestone has a gorilla glass display thats very hard to scratch! It is harder than most metals and there are videos on youtube of people trying to scratch gorilla glass with keys and pens, but fail to do so... so its kinda pointless adding a protector as it will only detract from the smooth feel of the gorilla glass. It will reduce the sensitivity of the touch screen. It is counter productive!

You can find it on google - its a pretty well known fact - The Droid and the Milestone were amongst the first cell phones to use Gorilla glass on the display - youtube should have a bunch of videos too.
But you should understand - this only makes it very hard to scratch the glass - any material that has a hardness value higher than the gorilla glass can scratch it.
I was using a screen protector for a while but I got fed up with it after a while and took it off. The cover I used diffracted the light from the screen caused a slight rainbow effect and was less sensitive to the touch. One of the reasons I chose the milestone is because of the capacitive touchscreen and the cover made it almost as bad as an old resistive screen!
My screen is still scratch free dispite living in my pocket, although the metal around the screen has a few nicks. Gorilla glass is impressive there are some demos on the net like this one http://vimeo.com/8602963
The rainbow effect was because it was anti-glare. With clear protector you shouldnt get any difractions. Also the clear protectors are thinner so you get better sensitivity.
How are you protecting your screen from looking all smudged? And don't your finger "stick" to the glass without matte protector? Because for me that's even worse than having less sensitivity.
Yes the screen permantly has a bunch of fingerprint marks, although I don't notice them much. This will probably bother me more in summer when there is more sunlight around.
I find my fingers do the opposite of stick, they glide over the glass, with protectors I didn,t like the extra friction.
I appreciate it is down to personal preference.

I'm sorry to say that, but Gorilla Glass has one weak point, dust... Dust and sometimes sand have quartz and quartz still is harder than GG. My Milestone has survived so many falls but once, and just once, it slipped in the floor and one small spec of dust fell of the speaker grill and the screen got a tiny scratch from that single spec of dust.
It is hard to scratch it, but not impossible. Today I use a Invisible Shield and I'm happy with it, no more scratchs.
Here I use the phone only in a Noreve leather case... I dropped it only one time, the cover was open and the Stone felt with the screen on the floor and I got 2 tiny scratches on the amazing GG 8-|... I'm using a cheap screen protective film now ^^.

Do I need to buy a screen protector?

I will have this phone in two weeks. Do I need a clear screen protector? Or does it stay looking relatively good?
I also just got this phone and I think you should get one. Better safe than sorry. As this scree. Isn't gorilla glass so I won't really take my chances. In my old captivate and even my i9000 I had one.
Always a good practice and keeps resale value higher when screen is mint.
i've had it since launch day with no screen protector in my pocket, no scratches, same with my two previous phones none of which had gorilla glass
I vote no screen protector but don't put it in your trouser pocket with a bunch of keys and then sit down - the screen cracks
I don't use a screen protector for the protective qualities, but rather for the antifingerprint features, just makes the device look cleaner, repels glare as well.
You can answer this question yourself. Did you have a screen protector on your previous phone (with glass display)? If not, did you feel safe? If yes, don't buy one for the Nexus S. One screen doesn't scratch faster than another. Gorilla Glass maybe helps a little, but it's there to prevent cracking, not scratches.
Keep in mind that the Nexus S has a curved display. This actually DOES help a lot to prevent scratches, a lot more than Gorilla Glass.
This screen isn't like old ones. Most previous android phones didn't have an oleophobic coating which is far easier to scratch and wear off than the screen itself.
Just take a look at any iPhone 4 that's been used... there will be lots of little micro scratches in the coating but not the actual screen.

I have the full body Zagg one ... i like it..
anything that's going to scratch the screen is probably going to crack it. Although it's not gorilla glass it's pretty tough. i've dropped my phone numerous times face-first, and thanks to the curved display, not one scratch....
however the back is another story. I have numerous large scratches on it... so if you need any protection get a cover. don't worry so much about the screen. i hate those plastic coatings anyway....
well...
I personally like a SP just because, hey, you just dropped some $ on a relatively pricey piece of equipment.
also it depends, do you have one of those nifty belt carrier thingys??? or do you rock it in the pocket, personally my phone stays in my pocket (I should really look into one of those nice padded carriers lol) Its all preference and just how hard on that phone youre gunna be man.
Thanks for all the feedback. I only carry my phone in my pocket. I hate those enclosed cases as aesthetics are important to me too and the cases always make it look clumps. I have never had a clear screen protector before and don't think I'll have one now. Thanks again!
Like most of the people told, I was against a screen proctector. But after using the NS for 1 week, I have noticed 3-4 round oily marks on the screen which I was not able to remove. Then I had to go and replace the handset and had the screen guard purchased right away.
I usually use a screen protector on any phone for:
1. Peace of mind
2. Fingers seem to glide on them easier than bare glass.

Really - oily stains that wouldn't come out? Has anyone else had that issue?
I have a HTC hero I've had a year, no idea what type of screen it is. Aside from finger prints on the screen, thats all that ever happened to it. No scratches or anything!
I did get one but took it off after a while.
Sine the screen has anti fingerprints and is A LOT smoother without a "protector" I choose to take the risk of getting it scratched.
I thought like this. If I have a protector and it gets scratched I still be walking around with a phone with scratches, unless I change me protector shield. But yeah if you get a good protector Shield, I suppose my argument is not valid. Anyways get 2 if you find anything decent !
just got my phantom skinz in the mail for my new nexus s 4g. cannot wait to actually use the phone when i get it this week.

Do you use a screen protector?

I've been wondering about this for a little while - is there a point in having my screen protector on since the XT720 has Gorilla glass? The SGP case I bought came with a screen protector so I just put it on. Is there actually any benefit considering Gorilla glass is unscratchable/ virtually indestructible? The screen protector doesn't really annoy me or anything, I'm just curious if the screen is a little brighter/better without it on and if there's actually any point at all for me to have it on or I should just take the screen protector off.
Also, the case came with a little screen cover for the camera shutter, this one I've thought is probably more useful since the camera doesn't have gorilla glass. Or does it and this screen cover is also pointless?
I do use one and I don't think it does any harm. I guess it would depend on whether you think the device warranty covers scratches to the screen (which I haven't looked into but I highly doubt).
A long time ago when I upgraded from a Palm Pilot to a Palm III, I went through a similar doubting phase about screen protectors since the III was advertised to be the latest and greatest in scratch resistant at the time, etc. Unfortunately it scratched within a month after my keys managed to slide between the flip cover and gouge a huge slash in the middle of the screen. Of course that sort of damage wasn't covered by the fine print of the warranty. An ounce of prevention is less annoying than a huge gash in the middle of your screen. At least that's where I am.
I'd be happy to scratch the hell out of someone else's screen to test it, though. I wonder if Best Buy frowns on bringing nails into the store...
No.
I don't think its necessary at all.. we have gorilla glass
even with a sharp pebble I wasn't able to scratch the display

I say keep the protector if it doesn't bug you.
I had an invisible shield from Zagg and it soon bugged me and I took it off.
That being said gorilla glass IS NOT impossible to scratch, in the light mine shows quite a few minor scratches now.
I scratched my screen. so better safe than sorry
Thanks for the input guys. Guess I'll keep it on since it doesn't really bug me.

Well some day i take off the original protector (the new one) and i like it moore, i like the touch of my finger with the screen but after arround 3 weeks i notice a 2 little scratches... i just bought a Invisible shield and it's pretty ok. I don't have another option, i think.

I had a martin fields protector on my desire for a year, there expensive but worth the money. You can't tell it's there, but they do scuff up and scratch.

Are screen protectors necessary?

I just got my tablet today and I was wondering if screen protectors are really necessary? do they really help prevent dust from sticking and fingerprints? I heard applying screen protector decrease accuracy and I was wondering if that's true?

I always use matte screen protectors on all my mobile devices and I would never buy a notebook with a glossy screen (only matte screens).
That way you avoid reflections from windows behind you, lamps etc.
No, never had screen protectors on any of my devices. They are pointless unless you really abuse your device.
Manufacturers make the effort to make a device with a great screen, slim with oleophobic coatings and then people go and negate all that by sticking a piece of cheap glass or plastic over it, which then spoil the touch and look of the device.
The manufacturers could do the same thing, but who would buy it then?
I'm sure there will be loads of counter arguments as to why they are great and they maintain the screen for better resale value, which is all well and good, but why buy a device, not enjoy it and use it as intended just so someone else can get the benefit when you sell it? :what:
I think that's so untrue. If you get a good screen protector and apply it well , a clear one, the touch is just as good and you wouldn't even know it's there with peace of mind knowing it's protected . You might not think it's scratching but screen without protection over time will get a lot of surface scratches. Drop it once on the screen there no going back
What kind of screen does our Tab S2 have? If our Tab S2 have the Corning Gorilla Glass 3... then we do not need any screen protector.
Why? Just watch scratch test of any phone with the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 screen and you will know it will resist any scratches. One example... search in youtube for THL T200 scratch test... they used the tip of a sharp swiss knife as a stylus, and no scratches whatsoever... that's how good screens are nowadays.
I used to be one of those who sticks a screen protector as soon as i buy a device... but not now with the progress they had with screens and making it scratch proof and almost unbreakable.

Using oneplus 3 without screen protection.

As u all know that most of the TGP's aren't compatible with this device be it because of the cases or the TGP itself fails to cover the entire screen, I wanted to know upto what extent is it safe to use the device without any screen guard or protection?
Please provide brief answers.
Thank you.
Running the screen nude since July. No issues. I don't use screen protectors on any of my devices.

Device doing good? No scratches?
Running it without protector for 2 weeks now, no more smudges! Somethings to note, don't use toilet paper to clean it, watch out with sand and never apply pressure! Don't use any sprays or stuff or your oleohobic coating will wear off. Don't use your pants to clean it either! If you follow these steps you shouldn't get scratches, nothing to worry about the fingerprint scanner. It's ceramic good luck scratching that.

No it makes your screen less smudgy and it should be easy to remove. Put a drop of water on your naked screen you will see what I mean.

Yeah I knw wat that means but if it fades away our screen won't get scratches ryt? Oleophobic is like it makes everything float on itself.
screen protection ruins the entire experience of the perfect glass on smartphones.
my advice: dont use any!
Never applied a screen protector, it's been around 6 months and I'm yet to see a single scratch on the screen, same with the body of the phone.
What about smudges and finger prints, I have a glass screen protector on right now and the fingerprints are horrible
Hell will freeze over before I apply that monstrosity to my screen. Nude since 2004, not a problem in sight.

Yes your protector doesn't have a oleophobic layer, you can try to apply it manually. But make sure you don't touch the main screen since you will ruin it there as well then.
Yes, the experience is really good when using w/o any protection but again, the word protection bothers me!
Had the OP3 for 2 weeks now. Been to the beach and no a single scratch, then at home the last 3 days everyday I got a little scratch. I really don't get it how it happened, I'm really "dissapointed'', my last phone (Moto G 1st gen) lasted me 3 years without protection and it almost has any scratch. Any ideas?

The necessity of screen guard is based on person to person and if usually your phone falls a lot it's better to have some protective gear... But if you really want protection go with rhino shield as its only on edges so it won't cause any hindrance and can bear any 11ft fall
This is that happened after 2 months of very careful usage.
It was a big mistake for me not to use screen protector.
Don`t know why screen scratches so easely, always carry my 1+3 in separate pockets without any other stuff in it. Some of the scratches are so deep what you can feel them with fingers while using smartphone.
http://imgur.com/oTX2eyl
http://imgur.com/Jnrsjxj
Meanwhile other devices screens dont scratch at all in exactly the same users scenarios.
Ordered screen protector, because currently i`m afraid even to take 1+3 in hands yet again.
This is the only thing that upsets me in this device.
Sad, its better to use screen protection coz I am not getting any positive replies when not using any protection!
