[Q] sensation vs inc. s - HTC Incredible S

Hey guys,
I'm currently choosing either the sensation or the inc. s as my next phone.
opinions?
- i heard sensation is a little laggy/buggy and that is has wifi issues. (i use wifi ALOT)
- also heard the sensation's screen is a bit more "washed out"
- sensation is more future proof, and has a better design overall. (imo)
- i prefer the 4" screen of the incredible, but not the back design. (maybe i'll get used to it though!)
- audio quality is important (through headphones)
thanks for the help
sensation and incredible s is both being offered at the same $0 on a 3 year so price difference is not an issue.
i'm also not interested in rooting/modding

I think the Incredible is enough, if you prefer the larger screen (4.3"), should be choice Sensation. Because the dual chip of sensation is less quality compare with Galaxy S2...

If both cost the same and its a 3 year contract, go for sensation. Sent future proof with the dual core.

personally go for Incredible S
commercially go for sensation .
its the choice you make .......

Is go for the sensation myself.

Pick your pros and cons
Mine:
Sensation
pros: - Dual core (It'll last awhile but honestly.. i dont think any phone will last a while at the rate they're currently coming out!)
- Since you don't like to root.. you'd get sense 3.0 instead of what's currently on the incredible and I'd assume that you'd get more updates on the sensation
I wish I could help you more but I've honestly never had or even played with the sensation yet.. (I've only had the incredible S and would LOVE the sensation)
Incredible S
pros: - 4" Screen (I love 4" I don't like any bigger)
The cost (It's cheaper here in Canada (~250-300), as opposed to sensation (~$500)
- I like the back! Phone will also last a while!
Yeah.. I don't have too much reasons, I don't even have both the phones anymore (Just sold off my incredible S for the Motorola atrix and DAMN I REGRET IT motoblur is absolutely terrible.. I've rooted it but I still hate the UI and everything. I have to really focus the 5MP camera on the atrix to get a good solid picture, the incredible s takes pretty solid pictures without trying to focus!)
If I were you.. I'd go for the sensation
a) It's worth more
b) It's better in most ways
c) thats it sorry!

Well I have been in this Chaos for the last one month and thats the reason I didnt buy any ..lol..
HTC Incredible S compared to Sensation:
1) Compact perfect size
2) Very good battery life
3) Expensive for its specs. I mean only abt 100$ price difference from Sensation.
4) Laggy on some HD games like I played Avatar on it and it laggy.. not smooth
HTC Sensation:
1) official full sense 3.0
2) Dual core (future Proof)
3) Touch screen issues
4) Worst battery life. (poorer than DHD)
5) Massive size
The main reason I dont like Incredible S is because its not future proof and I had the HTC Desire and its not very fast comapred to that. Just slightly better
The Reason I dont like Sensation is coz it has worst battery life and not as fast as other Dual core phones.

why not GSII ?

Lack of Sense, Lack of Good build..
Same agenda... Grunt...

I'd go sensation, or if you're able to wait a little longer, hang on till the next device is released whether that be the holiday, bliss or kingdom
Swyped from HTC Desire S using XDA Premium

For the same price I would choose Sensation, without hesitation.
Incredible S : CM7

I almost went for a sensation but 2 things stopped me:
Screen problems - widely reported all over the net, check out the 106+ page thread in the Sensation forum IIRC, still no effective solution to solve it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1129272
Price (UK) - Currently, for a limited time - Carphonewarehouse are selling the Inredible S for 270ish which is imo a great deal (hence i bought it).
If you can wait, wait otherwise imho - you can't go wrong with IS

thanks for the replies everyone
leaning towards the incredible s after hearing about several issues withthe sensation as well as the smaller 4" screen. i hope sense 3.0 (minus the 3d animations) come to inc s though

incredible s vs hdh vs atrix

So these seem to be my options for phones atm... can someone give me an honest no bs suggestion on which would be the best way to go with this....
its an upgrade on my phone, so contract re signing....
but coming off the desire z...
Cheers
If you can wait and afford it, get the Galaxy S 2 or Sensation
and whats going to make those so much better then the above listed phones
The are both dual core (SGSII is tegra, Sensation is Qualcomm), the sensation has a higher res screen (qHD) and they both have 4.3" screens, sensation has the newer version of sense
Question is, will Canada be getting the HTC
LG Optimus 2X or IS?
I assume the HDH is the HTC Desire HD?
If so, I own all three of these phones and have some feedback for you. The Atrix has the best hardware of the lot (by a mile), but is let down by weak software (Motoblur) and capped upload speeds. The screen on the Atrix is quite good, but I find it a bit washed out. As for the dual-core processor, it is screaming fast, but there is very little software optimized to make use of the processor.
As for the Incredible S and Desire HD, both are quite similar and the main differences are the 4.3" screen on the HD compared to 4" on the IS as well as a front facing camera on the IS. In the real world, the lack of a dual core processor is not apparent today as these two felt as fast as the Atrix. I prefer the HTC Sense to the Motoblur (plus the fact that neither of these capped upload speeds like the Atrix), so overall my preference would be either of the two phones. I found the form factor of the 4" IS was more to my liking as I could use it one handed and hence I'll be sticking to the IS for some time (at least till the HTC dual cores come out). I really wanted to like the Atrix, but I just couldn't live with it's deficiencies.
BTW, both the Atrix and IS have locked bootloaders, so if you want to play with custom ROM's, the Desire HD would be your only choice.
At first I will choose HTC, and then, in HTC, I think Sensation is really great, no matter duo-core or the resolution of screen, or the newest sense.

Incredible S Vs Sensation (Kind of)

I have had my Incredible S for a month now and am really impressed with it. Well apart from the camera problems that have been flagged up on this forum.
With the announcement of the Sensation yesterday it has left me contemplating selling my Incredible S and getting a Sensation Sim Free when it is released.
After weighing up the pros and cons of the both, the only major thing i can see the Sensation has over the Incredible S is the dual core processor which i don't think is really enough to buy it. Well unless apps start to be created with dual core in mind. will this happen?
Also spotted this today on Engaget:
Unfortunate news for anyone who saw HTC's Sense 3.0 UI and started dreaming about seeing it on their Desire HD, Incredible S or any other handset that doesn't ship with it preloaded. HTC has said that because of the hardware requirements of the fancier new Android skin, only the dual-core Sensation 4G and EVO 3D smartphones and the 1.5GHz Flyer tablet will be benefiting from it for now. The company's expected to introduce more tablets in the summer and its inevitable march forward with smartphones will continue, but Sense 3.0 -- and those delectable multifunctional lock screens -- will remain the exclusive privilege of its highest-end devices
(Due to new user restrictions, can't post a link)
Obviously once our phones have been rooted there could potentially be a port of Sense 3.0 but will it run smoothly on our single cores, or is it just HTC making people want to upgrade?
Thoughts people
Couple of points on Sense 3.0:
HTC later said on their twitter feed that they would be bringing "certain elements" of sense 3.0 to their older phones, so we may still see the lions share of the features, we may see nothing official.
Several guys are already working hard to port a ROM dump from the sensation t the DHD, given the similar hardware it should be an easy port once we get S-OFF
HTC said they will ring it to the Flyer, which only runs a 1.5GHz single core snapdragon, so our device should be able to handle it fine specs wise
I imagine the sensation will be pretty expensive off contract
The HTC flyer has the same chip as the Incredible S but I think it's slightly modified to run a faster speed. I hope they get the full HTC Sense 3.0 on the Incredible S.

The Incredible and Flyer both use the MSM8255 right? The Flyer's is just clocked faster.

It's hard to say, officially there isn't a 1.5GHz sdnapdragon. the Samsung Galaxy S Plus and SGS II Mini both use a MSM8255T which is basically the chip we have clocked at 1.4GHz, but it is safe to say it will be very similar to the one in our phones what ever it turns out to be.
Yes, it is confirmed that IS will get the 3.0 update (some elementz) I'm still considering whether to go for this (or Desire s - similiar) or lg 2x... its dual core but buggy

HTC Incredible S Comparison

Can someone please suggest me If i shoud purchase HTC Incredible S or should i wait for HTC Sensation. I have heard of all the talk stating HTC Sensation being loaded with Sense 3.0 while Incredible S may get a limited update to Sense 3.0.
I would also like to know if Skype is available for download on HTC incredible S?
Thanks..would really appreciate the help
Numair
I have Skype on mine (though there is no video calling).
Personally I would wait for the Sensation now, if you're willing to pay the extra. Which isn't to say that the IS isn't a good phone, because it is, but you might as well get the latest and greatest if you have the choice. The Sensation will have more fancy animations and such.
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using XDA App
I would go with the Samsung Galaxy S II instead of the Sensation. HTC is locking the bootloader on the Sensation and who knows how long it'll take someone to crack it. I also like how the Galaxy S II has 16GB of internal storage already as well as more RAM.
Doctorsax,
There is no video calling? then y does it have a front cam? isnt that for video calling? jeez!..i thought it had video calling...but then i guess u r right..its betta to wait for Sensation...hopefully that wud be out soon..Thanks for ur reply
Doctorsax,
Hey can u plz explain me whats bootloader? and isnt Samsung Galaxy S2 too huge in size? i mean does it fit in ur pocket? ...and i read that the battery life of samsung galaxy s2 isnt good..but once again different ppl different opinions....
Well price is not that big of a difference, so sensation would be a nice choice if you really want HTC. As Someone else sais, Samsung galaxy s2 is deffinatly worth watching at too!
dont buy a sensation! im pretty sure the battery of sensation would be really bad. its a tradition of HTC from winmo -> android in last 10 years. the first piece of any hardware change got bad battery. a recent example would be inc S battery gets 2X using time than battery on DHD.
Wait to get a HTC Sensation 2, I bet you sensation2 would be a masterpiece.
Well sensation 2.0 would take sooo long to come..and by then we might have other phones lined up and i will end up waiting for them too ..hehehe
I guess samsung galaxy S2 is really good? but i hope it fits in the pocket..lollll..any idea bout battery life on that one?? n i guess the price wud be so much!
Also been considering 3 devices mentioned - SII, IS & Sensation....
- Samsung is pro with the battery, unlocked Bootloader...design is a bit plastic...but it depends
- IS is for the ones that want to use phone purely as is....with minimal customization environment provides
- Sensation Battery worries me, however in case it will be updated to latest 2.4 with Dual Core optimizations etc might stand a chance. When will this happed though ?
Sad thing is locked bootloader on both HTC, didn't know that is wide spreaded ...but in case you are within reasonable demands user - this is the optimal choice....

i would sell my IS if sensation comes out..but sadly..i dont like 4.3" screen...it is too big for me..
rooting? i own a xtc clip..so i pretty much don't care.
You think a 4.3" screen wud fit into our pockets? hehe

Sense 3.0 ports for single core devices are looking promising!
but if you are going to be on stock for awhile and want some power, i suggest holding out for the sensation.. or by then, the IS price will fall and it can help you make your mind up
Do not buy a Incredible S, it sucks! Is just a scrap phone for a lot of money! It sucks in ALL!
hmmm really????
can someone plz explain me what does root by xtc clip mean?
First, HTC said they will not lock bootloader hereafter. However, they never said when they will unlock current phones. Fingers crossed.
For video call, you can always install Tango from market. Personally, I prefer Tango over Skype.
In turn, the mentioned reasons shouldn't affect choosing Inc S or Sensation, or other brand phones.

My Incredible S sucks ! I also have an HD2 with Android inside which is a lot better, more powerful and more compatible with many applications. I'm a bit disappointed because for example I cannot use Skype and Sip applications. Trying to call via this phone with these kind of applications is impossible. Battery consumption is a lot faster than the HD2. And sound reception call quality is pretty bad. Sometimes, it seems I'm talking in a conduit or a tunnel. Many echos ...

Just some opinions :-)

Hello guys! I'm gonna get the XL for 400€ (I just love the design and the big screen) but I'm not confident in performace (XL < XE & Galaxy S2) and battery life.
I hate lags of any type (while typing, scrolling, web browsing..) so... how does the phone feel with custom ROM + kernel? How can I customize it? I get some relief from stock? Is it worth 400€?
Thanks!
I've used both the XL & XE and i found the XL to be much smoother, especially when using sense. I assume that is because although the XE is dual core, sense 3 - 3.6 does not support multi threading, so only one core can be utilized anyway. Also battery life on single core devices is much better than dual cores
Sent from my HTC Sensation XL with Beats Audio X315e using Tapatalk 2
In my opinion, I reckon that the SXL overall, is a great phone. This is my 1st HTC phone and I have been use it for the last 4 months. So far, I am very happy with it and I would only change it for the new HTC One X
It has got a great screen size (perfect for watching movies or live TV), the screen resolution is very good, soundwise it's perfect, fast enough for scrolling and web browsing.
Already tried different custom rooms, rooted and unrooted it couple of times and did not have any issues whatsover. The only down side for me is the battery life, either with stock or custom rooms, if I am on wifi or 3G mode for few hours a day, I probably have to charge the phone twice a day. Apart of that, everything else is great
in my opinion is not worth it.....I have a XL and it is not bad phone but not big support even if u are rooted....today just went to get a new phone and I got Galaxy S3 and is hundred even thousands times smoother and better but it is your choise....It is good phone but all depends for what you gonna use it...if you want roms not worth it....

Yup. If you wanna jump from Rom to Rom the XL is not your choice. But it is a rare phone coz not everyone has bought it due to singlecore which everyone thinks is a bad thing.
Beside that it is a nice phone. It has his flaws.
I have bought it even after i read that it has singlecore and the XE has dual. When i was in the store and touched the two i was thrilled by the XL.
You got to make up your mind

incredible s vs desire hd vs xperia arc s?

which one is better?
for the prices:
xperia arc s is the cheapest one then desire hd then incredible s
This is the same decision I had to make this time last year
The reason I went for the Incredible S over the DHD and the Arc (the S wasn't out) was because of its specs.
I knew I would root it one day and be running AOSP
The HTC's have more RAM because it is needed by sense, so I figured they would run AOSP roms better than the Arc
The Arc feels cheap to me
The incredible S has a front camera, which I use sometimes, and the others dont have it
I like having the option of sense as well, it just makes the phone feel a lot different compared to other android phones
So the arc was ruled out for me. With the Arc S, its clock speed can easily be matched anyway with a custom kernel
I ended up choosing the Incredible S over the DHD because it has better battery life, and IMO a better screen.
But, looking at them now specs wise, they are outdated and seemingly low end devices anyway
If I were to get a new phone now, I would at least go dual core. But, that said, I am happy still with the Incredible S, and I am glad I am here. Gotta love the sense of community we have here
arc s looks better, but HTC sense is much better than Sony's ui

The Xperia should only be considered if you're looking for a very slim, stylish phone- other than that. although it is slightly faster than both, the only area it excels over the other 2 is the video mode is continuous AF.
the DHD is one pretty phone, and is unibody aluminium, making it quite a heavy phone its also curved slightly, meaning it doesn't sit fresh on a flat surface. icons and text are also a lot clearer on this phone by virtue of screen real estate, but it can look like someone has activated "disability mode" on the phone. out of the 3 it is the fastest by a nose too.
The Incredible S is the only one of the 3 to have the front facing camera. its also the "smartest" design wise- perfect fit in the hand, nice feeling back. the only issue i have with it is the slightly raised metal "ring" around the phone. I dropped mine one time and it has this weird dual-hing on the corners which can be bent out of their normal position(with great force of course), this can caused issues with putting the back on. it is let down by its wierd video recording and slightly slower AF than the others.
If I were having to pick, I would probably go with option 4 or 5- the Galaxy Nexus or the Nokia N9. These should be around the same costing nowadays. the Nexus gives the best stock ICS experience for the price, and the N9 is just one beautiful piece of kit and the software-meego- although not supported is excellent.
hope this helps
The ARC S cracks the cases. I searched for it when I bought the Inc S.The Desire HD has the same specs but a bigger screen with the same resolution.
For me the IncS is the best, a 4.0in non brick phone, good construction, good stock roms (I hate sony UI,sense is very very complete).
In my opinion the only phone that I would think of changing the IncS in the same league is the Desire S because of it size, but I heard it has some problems with motherboards.
As i was buying my phone I had a thought about these three phones too. I decided on the IncS due to its slightly smaller screen size of the HD, due to battery saving.
The Sony was more common but all of them seemed to have cracks on the case just above the screens.
I liked that the IncS also had a front facing camera.
Another option for me was the Huawei Honor but that wasn't cheap enough. The LG 2X might be another good bet or the Desire S, slightly smaller but its battery life is meant to be good.
thank GOD you weren't swayed by the 2x- apparrantly the most unoptimiesed pos version of Android ever put on a phone.

The LG 2X is a cancer, when I bought the IncS (for 250eur, used with almost 2year warranty,a spare original battery, a CaseMatte Cover,8Gb Class 6 card) the LG 2X could be find used for the same price.
Most people who got it had to send to warranty lots of time to fix problems, a new phone came and the problems persisted...
For me the IncS/Desire S are the wisest options. You have the Xperia U, wich in my country can be bought for 190eur vodafone locked. The only drawback is that it doesn't have microsd slot.
which one should i buy... incredible s or desire hd
hello sir. I am new here just registered to post this reply.
I am going to buy an htc cellphone. I have searched upon net and had finally come across two choice... either htc desire hd or htc incredible s. i only have time to decide between these two for a week coz after that shipment will arrive.
as per gsmarena.com both devices have got same hardware except different display sizes, display technology and a front facing camera.
bt i have watched several youtube videos showing that incredibles s has a very bad camera output (video especially) as compared to desire hd... so i wanted to cnfirm that whether the camera quality is same for bth desire hd and incredible s.... if it is so m going to buy incredible s... otherwise desire hd on the go.
thanks in advance. P.S i need a quick reply.
Hey buddy, welcome to xda
When are these reviews from? The sense 2.1 camera that the phone was released with, which is probably in most of the reviews, is average.
Camera quality is much improved with the later versions of sense. The sense 4 camera is full of features and is quite good
But put bluntly, they're both alright in daylight but crap in low light.
Quality is the same imo
There is a thread in general, you can google it called something like " photos taken with your incredible s"
Showcasing our best photography
Video is the same, depending on the rom you use
For me 720p capture has quite a low framerate but 480p is fine.
