[Q] Android update (from 1.6) -help to a noob)) - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!I buyed HTC Dream G1 on ebay with installed Android 1.6 (DONUT) on it. I heard that now there are android versions 2.x and i need to have so versions to install most of apps. Please, write my some instructions what should i do to update my device. (1...,2...)I have seen a lots of modifications of roms in your forum but i don't understand nothing about this.
Also I should add : I live in eastern europe (bulgaria) /because i heard that there re some US roms or.../
p.s. i'm so nooby because i migrate from windows mobile phone 6.0 ))

There are many, many posts here on getting 'root' on your phone to allow updates to custom ROMs, though many are geared toward US or UK phones, so it would help to know what carrier your phone is from originally.
Another new user just asked a very similar question, and there are a few links you can check from that thread.
From what I've seen, if you don't have a US or UK phone, you'll probably want to search these forums for "G1 one click root", "exploid" or "goldcard".
And congratulations on your upgrade away from Windows Mobile.

Questions about rooting a AUS HTC Dream...

Hi all,
I'm newish on the block when it comes to jailbreaking phones, and I've got a few questions before I jump into the mix and possibly screw my HTC dream up.
1. Does having root access inpose any security holes? In other words, if I jailbreak my phone, will it get hax'd from hackers?
2. My HTC had a RC8 build of android 1.1 before I upgraded it to the optus suppiled OTA update of CupCake (1.5). Is it still possible to downgrade despite this version of android?
3. There's a few custom roms of the Os around and I like the addition features they provide. Do I need to be worried about flashing a us custom rom on a aus (uk?) Handset? Or do custom roms have no actual region setting?
4. What are some good custom versions of android?
Alright, I'll be awaiting a response so I can start jailbreaking my phone. Cheers all!
1. No
2. Yes
3. Dont know about that one, im on US lol
4. CyanogenMod
Good Luck!
Alright, I'm getting ready to take the plunge.
I was looking at CyanogenMod and it looks awesome, is there any simple step-by-step tutorials on how to install it? I've read ways of installing it, but I just want to be sure I install it the correct way and not botch something up.
What version should I use? CyanogenMod v3.6.8 or v3.9.7?

Help needed with ROM

Hello everyone. Since Motorola won't release an update for my country and my device is getting super unstable, I'll probably flash the ROM from Telus on it in the following days. My intention with this topic is to ask more experienced people if it's possible to copy the brazilian portuguese suport from my ROM to the Telus ROM. If possible, could someone point me out the instructions? I also would like to know if you guys have any guides that shows how to clean motorola's bloatware.
Thanks!

[Q] Unbranding WP7?

I'm looking at unbranding my phone to remove the O2 boot screen and the O2 Colour but I was reading this: -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888747&page=20
and ansar.ath.gr says
Hi,
We always need to apply for a windows live id.
It is a good practice to use different id when we unbrand to another ROM.
Use the initial id when return to the initial branded ROM.
It is a suggestion only, in order to preserve privacy.
Regards, ansar.

Is there a reson to use a differnt Windows Live ID when Unbranding?
as I have allot linked to my current one!
Sorry I would of posted this on the link above but I dont have the required number of posts?
Vodafone UK have stated they do not support Windows Phone 7 Updates
so can some one anwser my above question...
Also will the updates be published by yourselfs using the same method...
they can only skip one update, as they will have to accept the next one which is a cumulative update and include the previous one as well.
but what they have not told you is that they can take aslong as they like to test these software updates (in other words they can skip as meany as they like)
I would still like my original question anwsered as I want to remove the O2 Stuff...
Will I be able to : -
Buy Applications
Buy Games
Sync Facebook
with a custom firmware?
I'm using t-mobile us and facing the same problem.

[Q] HTC One flash or not?

i mostly lurk and it has been some time since i posted anything here. i'm not a developer just a heavily dependent user. i have an AT&T HTC One M7 that is over a year old now and am not getting the 4.4.4 update (stuck on 4.3 with software #3.17.502.3) and thinking of doing something different with my device. i dont use the blink feed that comes on the phone (after market launcher called everything me) and other apps for calendar and calling. what is the advice of the group, should i flash a different rom or just stay with what i have? if y'all think i should change, what is a good rom to change to? any and all advice is appreciated.

Sorry, we can not recommend ROMs and the decision to flash or not is a personal one. If you want to update your phone you can find RUU's at AndroidRUU or HTC 1 Guru they are the Cellular ones. Pick the one with the same or higher version number. Or you could visit this thread and get a more updated version.
Just a FYI: to get updates you must have a stock rom, stock recovery, if s-on bootloader must be locked and what ever apps that are being updated must be present on your phone.

Advice on installing Custom Rom on SM-G900A & SM-G900V

Hi all,
Im new to this website but not new to installing customs ROM's on phones. Its been a while but i did it years ago on my S3. Also, I know there are probably threads out there already for this so if this is just a redundant question please forward me to the right place b/c i haven't been able to find a clear answer on my own.
So here is my situation. I have a SM-G900A that I requested and unlock code from AT&T for and is now "unlocked" and I am running android 6.0.1. My girlfriend has a SM-G900V that is supposedly been unlocked by verizon and i moved over to my AT&T account and its working fine (with the exception of lack of LTE data). To my understanding it is not possible to flash a custom ROM on either of these if they are on anything post android 5.0 release. Is this true? I have not been able to find any custom ROM build that say they are made for these models and TWRP doesnt have a version specific to these either.
Has anyone successfully put customer ROM's/bootloaders on either of these 2 devices? I have really only used Cyanogenmod in the past and was very happy with it. But all i have seen is that people say that these 2 models are SOL if they have android v.6 on them.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
Check the link below, the first 4 posts or so have the information on downgrading and rooting. I don't know about the Verizon version, the AT&T version bootloader is completely locked down so we can not flash a custom recovery like twrp. Flashfire works like a charm though. The custom roms are limited and pretty much lollipop variants. There is currently no root or custom Rom for marshmallow.

flashfire gives the error "Please update SuperSU to v.2.40 or newer" which I already have. I tried the older ones 1st and it gives the same error. I am not sure what to think about it except I got it to work before with the exact same files from what I recall. is there another proceedure perhaps?
