Yikes - Motorola Droid Bionic

299 with a contract
699 without?
I was ready to buy one day 1 for 599, but that extra 100 is a bit hard to swallow.

It's the first dual core LTE handset, and and its still cheaper than the iPhone 4 outright.

Where did you see this price?
It was $589.99 according to http://www.droid-life.com/2011/09/01/droiddoes-com-confirms-589-99-full-retail-price-through-terms-and-conditions/

The price on contract becomes easier to swallow when you realize that the Samsung Droid Charge is the same price, yet it lacks a dual-core processor (although, to be fair, it does have an unlocked bootloader, which I'm not sure if the Bionic has or not, and a SAMOLED+ display).

The $700 price is the non VZW retail price. VZW will be $590.

Yea the Charge was $299 when it launched and this is quite a step up in regards to qHD and dual core. Kinda wish it had the screen, but we will see what happens. It will be nice to own a phone with some ppl behind it, there isn't much support for Roms on the Charge....

That is pretty much exactly what I was thinking. I figure that in order to get the phone to be distributed by the big carriers, Google probably had to agree to sell their own version at a high price.
Plus cellular radio and licensing fees for patent holders. Look at HTC and how much they pay companies like Microsoft for patents that they hold related to cellular phones. I read an article that Microsoft makes something like $15 for every HTC android phone sold.

I really wish I didn't have Verizon so that I could get this phone. Id rather have an unlocked nexus than a bastardization and a new 2 year contract w/ATT/Tmobile.

As I recall the GNex is only around $100 more expensive than the 16 GB N7 in the Play Store. Unfortunately the GNex is not available for us Canucks at that price.
Idk cuz mobile carriers are jackasses. Cellphones are basically as bad as buying a bottle of water.

Specifically with respect to the Nexus 7, there is very little profit on the device.
Google expects to make money by selling you apps, books, music, films etc and from other services.
Asus are almost certainly in it for the kudos it gives to their brand - if the Nexus 7 wasn't a Nexu device, it would be at least 25% more expensive.

Because we aren't willing to pay that much.
Simple as that.
The manufacturers tried selling $400 or $500+ tablets, and they're pretty much flopping. Tablets just aren't considered as necessary as phones, so none of them (save the ipad) got enough momentum to take off.
They then discovered that we are willing to pay $200 or $300 for a popular brand, so that's where we're at now.
This is a good thing (ipad users aside). It means we'll start to get more bang for our buck, because us consumers as a whole were picky enough. Now all that's left to do is to become even more picky, so they're forced to sell for $100.

[Q] is anyone purchasing or pre ordered from best?

Sorry i meant best buy. I normally buy my phones from best buy off contract because they give us the highest value for our phones. Currently the GS3 is worth 360$ plus 50 gift card sign up promotion they normally do in January plus an additional 50$ gift card for their trade in if you have their protection for a total of 460$ last i have them price match sprint which is 550$ meaning i only have to pay 90$ plus tax. anyone go this route? or simply upgrading?
My local best buy said 230 for s3 in new condition and 699.99 for the HTC and they will not price match for contract phones even tho I'm paying retail. How did you pull that deal?

Wait... what? If you're paying unsubsidized price for a phone, that's not considered a contract phone. You should show them their own policy.

I don't think ANY phones via trade-in will surpass the amount that you can get for them selling them individually. Best Buy provides that as a service to customers -- not so people can make money off trading phones in. I would strongly suggest just selling the S3 and buying the phone from Best Buy with the money that you obtain from the sale.
I called a few and they all say they will not price match phones at all. My problem is none of my sprint stores or the main sprint tele sales store will even sell me one unless I add a new line. I've gone to 3 stores in person and they all said it will be a month or so before they will sell the phone at retail price.

Thats not true. best buy is hurting because now they even price match amazon.com which they NEVER used to do. I dont know who you guys spoke to but its not true. i have receipts to show the last 2 years. i have had the EVO 4G, EVO 3D, Epic 4G touch black and white. EVO LTE, GS3 IN WHITE, THEN OPTIMUS G, GALAXY NOTE 2 THEN BACK TO THE GS3 IN PEBBLE BLUE. So trust me when i say its true. Call a store in atlanta and they will tell you the same. Im actually considering just using my upgrade and getting the additional 200$ on a gift card.

Price for the nexus 5?

How much money do you guys think the nexus 5 would be? i would love a two year 16gb model for 200$.
I'm thinking $400 for the base model, off contract. They're not going to retain the same pricing as the N4 in all likelihood given those "leaked" specs.

It really is the only bump they can go with the N5 otherwise they would just be repackaging the N4.

I'll definitely fork out $349 or $399 for the 16GB or 32GB models respectively. Anything more than that, I might think twice.
But I'll still probably take it. Nexus S was my first android phone and I've never regretted my decision of getting that (even if I don't have it anymore since I lost it on my way to work)

I think the OP meant $200 on contract, which would be the absolute most it would cost on contract, and even that would be a ripoff. If it's $349-$399 off contract, then on contract it should be free.

Why does everyone assume the pricing can't be the same as the N4 last year? The N4 was basically the Optimus G, which at the time was the best of the best, as far as specs go.
This time around, the N5 is basically the G2, which, again, currently has the highest specs on the market. The situation looks identical to me, and I see no reason the price should not be identical as well.

I seriously hope it`s gonna be priced like the N4
299$ / 349$ for 16GB/32GB or 8GB/16GB I dont really mind the Flash size as long as it`s cheap
Surely the 2 version of batteries cant be right as this would mean the dimensions would be different??
I wish this was the case but I cant see it myself.
Ill be getting it regardless, just had a tax rebate so nicely timed with the launch of the phone

Can't wait for the Nexus 5? get it from amazon

So I think I'm correct that the phone would work on Sprint (duh), T-mo, or ATT correct? It should be the same phone that is sold from google correct?
If so, if you have Prime you could get one in two days versus weeks at google. In my area we are charged tax when ($41 according to amazon) directly ordering from Amazon, but if you aren't in such an area you could save tax and shipping so you would only be paying a $15 or so fee to get the Nexus 5 now ($449 vs about $435 from google).

Wonder if they ever actually had any 32gb's or if that was an error. If not, they sold them quick.

Btw, I was just passing the info on for those looking for one, I already have a couple.
I'm just so confused. Why would you pay $100 more for a phone that would be locked to sprint? When you could buy it unlocked for $400....
The only way I would see this as justified would be if you had money to waste lol
Might not be the same as Amazon's sku, but the Nexus 5 at Best Buy is unlocked. Even though it's advertised as a Sprint phone, my T-Mo sim worked out of box. I even got it priced match, took some effort, but no shipping wait.

After thinking about it...That price may likely be the suggested retail price since its for the contest. Carriers may price differently. If I remember correctly the S5 was $669 though at tmobile, so $699 could be it.
My state tax is 6.75%
So edge possibly
$799, 32Gb = $853
$899, 64Gb = $960
$999, 128Gb = $1066[emoji15]
With many people (me included) thinking they at least needed the 64Gb. Whoa! I hope the wireless charger is included, since that might run 40-50 bucks for that Samsung one which I would prefer.

i have the Verizon Note 4 with the locked bootloader and its been buggy (wasnt aware i had to buy directly from samsung if i wanted it unlocked). i bough the nexus 6 to dump the note and get into roms for the first time but find myself using the note still.
so yeah im looking foward to a new samsung devices, thats less buggy and laggy. + id like a smaller device. and i could always get a pen for the s6 (less percise sadly)
im looking for 2 things to happen tho
1) verizon need to either have the bootloader unlocked/a devlopers edition/ or an exploit so i cant root the s6; a) so i can root/get titanium backup b) so i can get ride of any bloat
2) color choices. i dont want black/white/gold which is what verizon usually has for samsung devices. either the blue S6 or Green Edge

Ahh, I see. I'm with T-Mobile S5 didn't have lock bootloader but I'm aware of that hassle...
Just read an article on Forbes they think the S6 edge will be a $150 price increase over the S6.

I think this is a mote likely scenario as far as pricing goes:
S6
32Gb - $699
64Gb - $749
128Gb - $799
Edge
32Gb - $799
64Gb - $849
128Gb - $899
Haha it's really expensive, but I supposed it to be that

Yeah. I kinda want to pick up a 64 GB model but that's awfully expensive. Not sure I can justify spending that much.

I was leaning edge, but now I think for the extra hundred or so I would get s6 in larger size like 128. In the long run not sure if the edge will be worth the higher price tag for less storage space!

I wish they only made the Edge so there'd be one less decision to make. I'm terrible at decisions. :silly:

Seeing them and playing with in person will probably help with that a little. If the price increases line up with the euro sites prices, we could be looking at $150 jump to get the edge in the same storage size. That would definitely make my mind up to go with regular s6.

i disagree, if they come out with a beautifully built, aesthetically wonderful phone like this, it will continue to sell at this price point. we'll have to wait and see !
