google voice not working - Motorola Droid Bionic

i just bought the bionic and i was a little disapointed that google voice is not supported. i came from the incedible and ill be honest im addicted to google voice. i never want the verizon voicemail ever again. now my question was. its saying that its not supported by my carrier. but that doesnt make sense cause i placed some calls on my inc just a few min prior to purchasing the bionic. now i know what your thinking your going to say that i have a 4g phone now and it might not work on the extra "G". but in my area there is no 4g coverage yet. so im still rocking the 3g. any ideas?>

i saw another thread about this and think it will address your concern - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254244

My google voice works perfectly

Activate it in your Google Voice settings. It always says that this carrier does not support it when you activate in the app.
I believe its *72(googlevoice#)

What did you do to get it to work? If you don't mind me asking. I installed the app and followed the instructions. I've done this on 5 other phone and never had this error before.

Anyone have their google voice lag? It takes about 3-4 seconds from when I tap the icon to when the app launches. It seems to make my phone freeze during those 3-4 seconds.

anyone? anyone else have this issue?

Only thing different with my Bionic and GV is when I dial a internationial # with GV it no longers displays the Goggle # I am calling that then trans. the international # I am calling. Other then this works just like it did on my old OG droid

My message not picking up
I have had a moto droid and droid 2.no issues..
But.....when I set the google voicemail on my bionic im having issues. It was working fine until 3 weeks
incoming calls are going to a general voicemail box that says enter the number of the party you wish to contact.
If you enter my number it goes to my message.. But no one know numbers these days so I'm not getting any messages...
I have deactivated the account reactivated my account downloaded the software on my phone and I'm repeating the same issue please help.. I'm dying with visual voicemail ...

There's a few dialer codes you have to enter on an LTE device:
*72(xxxxxxxxxx)
*90(xxxxxxxxxx)
*92(xxxxxxxxxx)
where the X's are your Google phone number.
Give that a try and tell me what happens.

Yes, I too have the multisecond lag when GV tries to launch. And I did not have any issues installing and getting it to work.

Sometimes you may have to connect to a wifi to set up Google voice. I've had luck doing that when it said it wasn't supported by my carrier.

Wait, the Google Voice configuration is supposed to work on Bionic? It said my voicemail configuration failed because it was not supported by my carrier. (Verizon)

Mine works great and no delay, I set up my voicemail on my PC though and installed gv from titanium backup so all the data was there... Sorry I can't help

Google Voice on my Bionic here. 5th phone I have had it on. Works like a dream. I don't mean to rub salt in your wound, just letting you know it is working as intended for some of us. I wish I could be of some help. I hope you get it resolved soon.

GV lags when it starts to eat up more than 19mb of ram. If you don't use it that much, you'll never notice. I've just gotten to the point where I respond to my texts through gmail. No biggie, but still blows. Google needs to fix this ASAP!
I have an Atrix 2, btw. Just checking this forum to see if the Bionic shares the same issue's as the A2. Seeing as they have the same guts and all (minus the radio).

[Q] Verizon default voicemail

Hi? Does anyone knows how to edit the default verizon voicemail number? I noticed that even if a dial *86 the display number is different. Is there a way to edit it? In my contacts appear like voicemail but it doesn't give me the options to edit.
Appreciate any help.
If you go into ##program, I remember seeing the number for voicemail section. You should be able to override there.

as long as you allow GV to do the work, it's nearly impossible to screw up. GV will pull in your GV phone number and perform the VM forwarding command for you. You shouldn't even have to worry if your GV phone number matches what was assigned to you, everything is automatic.

Dial *72 and your home number. To turn it off dial *73.
It's built into your Verizon plan. Something like *72.
Edit: wow I'm too slow
Does that code money or does it just use my minutes or is it minutes plus something
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
Already included unless you have some weird plan. It will use your minutes as if you were on the cell phone. So nights & weekends + mobile 2 mobile + family & friends should be freeeeeee.
I think I saw an app that handles this for you... but my style has just been to add a contact called ForwardtoHome and set the phone number as the entire string. I also have one called UnforwardtoHome.
Another option that's pretty awesome is Google Voice. Check it out if you don't already know.

Yeah you need to tell everyone you got a new number and distribute your Google Voice number. I did it a year ago and it's awesome! If you set it up properly you can put your google voice number as friends & family and have free calls through google voice.

Visual voicemail t mobile prepaid

Alright guys. Ran a search and didn't see topic yet (not for T-Mobile anyhow) so I figured I would start one.
I use T-Mobile prepaid. I've not seen a prepaid phone be able to utilize the visual voicemail app on T-Mobile monthly 4g...until now.
I just installed it on my nexus 4 and it works.
And yes... I know Google voice does as well. I use voice but not everyone calls my Google voice number, so I've been wanting to get visual voicemail straight from T-Mobile for a while. I am glad this works now and I hope it helps some of you out.

They don't need to call your Google voice number to leave a message there. You just need to have your phone forward to g voice.

YES! I've been waiting for others to post about this. I've noticed that mine has been working for about two weeks. I almost cried when I realized it started working. I hope it's not just some flaw in the VVM app update that's allowing us onto it. But one thing I did notice is that MetroPCS offers VVM on their plans of equal value. Maybe T-Mobile is following suit. Btw, I'm on the $60 T-Mobile Monthly4G plan.

The t mobile visual voicemail app. Basically it shows you who your voicemail is from
And allows you to pick and choose which voicemail you want to listen to rather than dialing out and having to listen to all of them.

Has anyone used the Nexus 7 as a full blown Mobile

Hi. I was thinking if the Nexus 7 3G would be good as a replacement for my mobile phone. I have seen a few demos on youtube and obviously you would need a bluetooth hands free "In Ear" type, but what about whatsapp, sms messages, emails, etc does all this work well ?. Just interested to hear back from people. I think the battery would drain quick having to have data connected all the time as well as bluetooth for phone calls. Any feed back would be great. Thanks.
There is no way to use as a phone yet, as it cannot receive true mobile calls like a phone can. Read the thread on this in the N7 3g dev section. Sms is working. For whatsapp, look in the themes and apps section of this forum, as there are install instructions. All the info you are looking for is already well documented and readily available right here in the n7 forum.

I just got myself a refurbed N7 on it's way... looking to do similar, but just for wifi.
From what I understand, since google voice and chat can pretty much replace a phone completely on my PC, I assume you should be able to do the same on a N7?
I tried to get google chat to work as a phone on my EEpad trandformer, but for that device there are serious hacks involved to get there.

I use Viber instead of WhatsApp
Since not everyone is happy using non-free apps, I instead use Viber on my N7.
Just as with WhatsApp, you have to go to their website to download the apk, since it is marked as incompatible in the Play Store. Also, you can not have it active on your mobile and your N7 at the same time. Which is the same as with WhatsApp.
I also couple Viber with MightyText, so any regular SMS I get on my mobile, I can respond to on the N7. Of course, I can also send new SMS from the MightyText app on the N7, or from my computer.
Been there, done that.

Sent from my ADR6400L using xda app-developers app
It depend on the app you use. I use Vonage and I don't get echo issues like with Google Voice's clients.
Also I just sucked it up and go with the T-Mobile Mobile Broadband $35/month for 3.5GB. Will just disable data on my Galaxy Nexus since I only use it to make calls now. But I also found tethering 3G from the Galaxy Nexus to the Nexus 7 with the screen off doesn't use up much battery and can go for hours.
But can't you only call people that have vonage as well? I don't of anybody really that I would that has that... so it wouldn't be effective

I think PlayStore doesn't let you download Vonage on the Nexus 7, you'll have to download it from a phone then sideload it on the Nexus 7.
Using Vonage, can make free outgoing call within USA and Canada, it will use your actual phone number you activate the app with. It however do not receive incoming calls, unless the other side is also using Vonage.
Since the Nexus 7 do not have phone feature, when you activate Vonage on it, don't put in the "mobile number of your Nexus 7 sim card", put in your regular phone number, when you make outgoing calls it will display that number you activate it with to otherside, that way people can call you back to your phone.
Or if you want to receive incoming calls via Google Voice apps, then activate Vonage with your Google Voice number. I find that during activation process, when Vonage tries to sent an SMS text message with activation code to the Google Voice number, nothing will happen, but then you can select the option to receive the code via call, then shortly you will get a voice recording of the code if you log into your Google Voice account.
I like Vonage more because of better call quality and machines will recognize number inputs, which tend to fail through Google Voice's apps. Also Vonage allow free video calls now if both parties use Vonage app, though yet to be updated on iPhone version I think.
PS. You get $1 to your account when you invite someone and they download it through the link.

[Q] SMS Bugs in stock app

Hey guys,
I've been having weird issues with my SMS, and I had these problems about halfway through having my EVO 4G LTE. In SMS, some characters, such as _, @, &, and others of this type aren't showing up. They're replaced with a space on received messages. I can see them on sent messages, but the receivers say they arrive as boxes. I also have this issue with emojis. Is this a Sprint problem since it's been a problem with two different phones I've had? And how should I fix this?
Nope..just sent these characters you mentioned to my wifes S3 and another to my friends Evo LTE..They dont show up as boxes..The problem may be on your friends end possibly using a 3rd party messaging client because it's working over here.

I completely agree. I had a previous instance (about two years ago) where calls just wouldn't come through, and texts would come really late unless through their app. I had to disable it then, too. I like Google Voice a lot, but it's so buggy.
Just confirming, I sent above characters to 15 recipients and all received them in readable form. I also could see them when sent back to me.
