People with a MAC, need a favor. - Off-topic

First, I will pay you, Secondly, I am installing MAC OS X on a netbook and all other methods have failed. If you can help, I will pay you and tell what I need. Requires at least an 8 gig flashdrive ( I will pay for as well).

I'm a person with a mac...but...what do you need? lol

This lol:
On the Mac
Insert the Mac OS X Install DVD and USB drive.
Open Disk Utility (Applications/Utilities).
Click on USB drive icon that states the capacity of the drive (i.e. 7.1 Gb, 7.6 GB, etc.)
Open the Partition tab.
Set:
Volume Scheme: 1 Partition
Name: OSXDVD
Format: Mac OS Extended
Click Apply.
Click Partition.
When Partition is finished, open the Restore tab.
Drag "Mac OS X Install DVD" from the left pane into the Source field in the right pane.
Drag OSXDVD from the left pane into the Destination field in the right pane.
Click Restore, then click Restore in the popup window.
Enter your password, and then wait anywhere between 25 minutes to 2 hours for it to finish.
When restoration is finished, close Disk Utility and eject the DVD.
Open the NetbookBootMaker application. If a warning prompt shows up asking, "Are you sure you want to open it?" click Open.
For USB Partition, select OSXDVD.
Press "Prepare Boot Drive".
Enter your password, then click OK. It can take several minutes to complete, so be patient.
On the popup window that says done, click OK, then exit the NetbookBootMaker app.
Eject the USB drive

Dude, that would be huge!! This is what I need: (copied from the instructions page)
First step you want to do is get ahold of a RETAIL (and i stress the retail part because you cannot use an OEM version of the disk, since they are specifically tied to the computer you bought it with) version of Snow Leopard (and it has to be the 10.6 version, not the 10.6.2 or 10.6.3 retail disks). Next, you want to make a disk image of the DVD (go to disk utility , select the DVD, and click the “New Image” button at the top to create the image. Save the image where ever you would like.
Once the drive has been formatted, then you want to drag the disk image (where ever you put it) to the left bar right below the DVD drive. This will create an icon below everything else for easy access. Go to the partition of the usb/sd card (which is directly under and indented of the main drive. Then go to the “restore” tab. Under the “source” you want to drag that icon of the disk image from the left and place it in the empty white bar. Under destination, you want to select the partition (or the entire) usb/sd card. When thats all set, click the “Restore” button in the lower right corner. This can take up to 30 mins to complete, so go take a bathroom break or get yourself a cold beer.
When you come back, the disk image should be successfully restore to the flash drive. DO NOT EJECT THE FLASH DRIVE. We’re not done with it yet. Go to the folder that you downloaded and select the “myhack_installer_1.1.mpkg”. This requires concentration, because one wrong move, and you can ruin your real mac. Continue through all the license agreements, etc til you get to where it asks you to install the files. Make SURE that you click your usb/sd card. Double and triple check this (I cannot stress it enough. i am not responsible for any damage or lost data to your mac). Click the continue button. Now dont just click the install button. Instead, go the to customize button in the lower left corner of the window. The following things need to be selected, and nothing else: Core (which should automatically be checked and you cant change that), com.apple.Boot.plist, EvOreboot.kext, NullCPUPowerManagement.kext, and SleepEnabler.kext. Thats is. After those are checked, click the “Install” button in the lower left corner and give yourself a 10 minute break.
When you come back, the installer should be all finished and give you a “congratulations” screen. You can now click the “Done” button, which will quit the myhack installer.

Can one of you guys do this or no?

Dude just downloaded virtual machine and do this yourself.

Possible way to get the book button to work more reliably?

I may be the only one, but i actually use my nook as an shook reader quite a bit. The issue i have is the buttn that returns you to the reader app only works sporadically. If anyone has made any observations into the underlying workings of this and can answer how to make it more reliable,or any insight on the matter, I would like to start an investigative sojourn on it. I will be able to do a bit of work starting tonight after work.
PS. We may want to figure out how to get the nc to show up as so to siftware, so my signature will be accurate

Are your files on the internal memory or on an SD card?
For me, items that reside on the SD card disappear from the "shelves" that I add them to after reboot and don't return to the last place I was reading when I use the book button or the recent items in the upper right-hand corner. If I reopen them by navigating to them using the library, they do reopen to the last place I was reading from.
Is this what you are talking about/experiencing?

This is actually the sole reason why I installed Home Switcher. If I reboot my Nook, the book button works reliably *if* I first switch back to the native NC homescreen, open my book, and then go back to my launcher of choice (Zeam). Then, as long as I don't power down/restart my NC, the book button always takes me back to the last page I was reading.

I've noticed this too. I was hoping that someone with a bit more of a brain than I could find the hook that the button uses, and possibly make a small little app that replicates functionality.

If you're using SoftKeys, one of the recent tasks is "Reader" with a book icon. That takes you back to what you were reading. If you use this method you don't have to return to the homescreen to get the stock continue reading icon to work.

Wanted to ask you when did you start having this problem? Did you upgrade your OS from 1.6 to 2.2.1? If you did, did you notice if that was when you started having your trouble? Did you update any of the drivers for you pc to reconize your phone to the newest 1s?
"I'm so broke I can't even buy time!!!"
Yes I did update it. And I know for sure I've used the Future Dial since. Usually I always gota uninstall the software and drivers then reinstall and it'd work. Its not "rooted" or whatever its called. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you using windows 7? Also, did you check to see if any firewalls or antivirus progams you may be running are blocking the driver? Check them to see. Also you might want to try uninstalling future dial again but this time completely clean it from you pc. Registry included if you know how to do so without wiping the wrong data out.
When installing it again, right click on the instal file, goto properties, then click the compatibility tab and check the box at the bottom to run the instal as an Administrator. When in the properties of the instal make sure its unblocked. Windows 7 has a tendacy to block certain instal files. If it is blocked you will see it at the bottom of the general tab once properties is open for the file.
Also, once you've done that, then right click the instal file again and click the "run as adminastrator" option in the drop down window. Hope this helped m8. Another thing you can try is plugging your phone into your pc through another usb port so your pc will try and reinstal the drivers for the phone.
Wow! I lost u at ARE U RUNNING WINDOWS 7. I have no idea, I bought my pc bran-new in the box and at that time it said windows vista on the box and on that tower thing where u plug everything into and put disc's in. Iv had future dial working before and every 2-3months id export my contacts and print em incase I lost my phone, and every time tried using it id have to uninstall and reinstall and did the same process every time with no problem. This time, trying the same process, nothin. Feel like just pouring water in that tower and putting this zio in a vise as tight as I can. I appreciate any and all help, but it ain't a big enough deal to waist anybody's time. I just thought it'd be a quick fix or a simple step I wasn't doing.

You can always set up your google account to sync your contacts online. That way you'll never lose them.
I was just about to suggest that to him Spz0. I just got this message noticed you beat me to the chase. lol
Ok itrustno1, Like Spz0 said, you can use your phones google account to sync all your contacts. If you goto your gmail account online you can find your contacts list on the left side pane in Internet Explorer window towards the top. Once you click on "Contacts" Internet Explorer will load the page with all your synced contacts. From there you can click on the "More Actions" button at the top of your contacts list, you will see in the drop down list "Import", "Export" ect. Click on the Export to Export your contacts to you computer. Should pop a box up asking where do you want them saved to. Pick a easy location as to where you may want to save them. Desktop is a good choice then you can find them easy enough and move the folder wherever you need or want.
As for you Operating System, your most likely running Windows Vista if thats what your pc came with. Not much different then running windows 7 the next OS up from Vista. Vista is a resorce hog though.
So you know, I have future dial on my pc and i'm running windows 7, I personally don't like using Future Dial cause it was too much a pain to do. I had simular problems as yourself.
Hope Spz0 and I were able to help. If not you can contact me using [email protected] and during this weekend maybe I can walk you through a few things you can try to get future dial working again for you. I won't make any promises as to whether or not I can fix the problem. Its usually easier for me to be infront of the pc i'm working on so i can see exactly whats going on to try and fix the problem.

MENU + A

I know of a few different shortcuts on this phone, my two favorites being MENU + C (copy) and MENU + V (paste), but MENU + A (select all) doesn't work like it should. If I hold them at the same time, it highlights everything, but as soon as I let go of either MENU or A, it deselects the text. Am I simply doing it wrong or what?
Sent from my DROID3 using XDA App
It's a known issue. You just have to try and press C really fast to copy all.
If you hold MENU+A and hit C at the same time, it works. Same with X.

also alt-shift-arrow doesn't always highlight the line as you would expect it would. sometimes you get the results of alt-arrow (end/home) and you have to do it again to get the shift to register. can be frustrating when trying to copy/edit links.
the moto copy-paste also interferes with android's copy-paste abilities. i've found that if you're used to how the D1 performs, blur makes it harder to use. for instance, you can't simply click the url in the browser to edit it. blur interrupts and asks you if you want to copy or share.
another thing that frustrates the crap out of me is the menu-V doesn't work in any part of the browser. instead, it asks you to save the page.
i'm hoping the tweaks done in ICS clears alot of that up (not that we'll see it on D3).
Pressing SPACE pages down, but pressing SHIFT + SPACE doesn't page up like it should
Edit: this is probably only in Dolphin HD

Enable tethering blindly

My SGN display was broken including the LCD, hence i'm not able to see anything. I'd like to access and control the device from my PC, what is the best app for this?
My main goal right now is to enable tethering. The touch still works, so i'm confident it can be done.
In the interim, could someone take screenshots of each step from the home screen to enable tethering and post them for me?
I'm going to try and enable it blindly.
Thanks in advance.
The device is a N7000 running stock ICS.
I had a similar problem...

I won't say it's easy but if you are on a Samsung based ROM you might have a chance. (Obviously you'll need to buy a MHL cable though.)
Alternatively, if you've got USB Debugging turned on then you might be able to use Droid Explorer which includes a remote control add-on.
Yes, mhl cable +hdmi is the best chance

Swipe anywhere to unlock
and then press the Menu key..
The Settings option is about 1 cm or so above the Menu key
Lol, i just figured out what the menu key is. I must admit it wasn't a key i used alot.
Something else i just found out, the bottom 1/4 of the screen, touch doesn't work.
I'm starting to lose hope of getting this done.
Could you swipe down from the top of the screen to open the notification screen, there is a settings link there, thats where i'm use to getting to the settings from. I think with a screen shot of that i'll be able to get it done.
Got it done. Found a pic on the internet of the screen i was talking about. Would still like a proper pic. :good:

Any chance you have AirDroid installed? It has a live view (screenshot) in pc browser ability built in, it can help if you don't have an MHL adapter.
If not, force an install from accessing play store from pc.

It is installed. Just start the app, then go to
Code:
http://(INSERT PHONE IP HERE):8888/
with your pc browser. Then work the magic from there!
EDIT: hm, you might need to set a password, dont know how easily it is to do this blindly... Anyways, worth a try!

I did it! I made a shortcut to usb utilities/usb mass storage on my homescreen!

There is very little super easy setup to do and then you're off to the races!
So here is what you need to do:
1. d/l and install "Anycut" from the play store.
2. select "Anycut"
3. select "Activity"
4. scroll all the way down to the bottom and select "Wireless and networks"
5. select "ok"
6. on homescreen select new "Wireless and networks" icon.
7. select "USB utilities"
8. VERY IMPORTANT HERE - select the "Home" button.
Now everytime you select "Wireless and networks" you will automatically brought to the USB utilities screen, everytime.
HOWEVER...if you press the back button you will be brought back to the "Wireless and networks" screen - just make sure to select USB utilities again, then the "home" button.
Heck you can even redo the steps again so you can rename it "USB" if you want and change the icon.
Hope this helps everybody/somebody. I looked through a lot of pages that couldn't help me.

Hi. This reduces the amount of steps it would take (5 or 6) to get to mass storage mode down to 1 without leaving the screen.
For someone like who stays away from anything MTP (I gave up the SGS3 soley because of it) and uses their phone as a mass storage device it is very convienant. I am consistantly plugging my phone into my PC at work and using it as a drive, its a daily habbit.
Apparently there is a paid app out there that does almost the same thing except it automatically launces uMS once plugged in but you have to be rooted in order for that to happen. I am not ready to root this yet.
Some people may not care either way.
Honestly though I'd love to get the Mass Storage Mode to launch automatically like it does on the SGS2 with stock ICS but at this point I'll take what I can get.
Thanks for the explanation.

Glad you got it but next time ask please and don't demand. I found it but I realize now it was only because of my Sensation and I backup my apks to my PC. Unfortunately Samsung must be blocking it from being seen by their devices, definately sucks.

Wow - Much needed USB Mass Storage on Samsung Note
I also gave up on SGS3 because it lacks USB M/S after trying all the possible methods (and because of the stupid home button - just wanted capacitive button or like apple smooth virtual button).
This one is great. Thanks for sharing it.
Very useful. I looked for this very long. Many thanks to you
