Upgraded to 5.6.890 - Motorola Droid 3

Evening all,
I have being playing with a spare D3 and have been successful in bringing it back to life. I got it back to 959, and then upgraded it to 890. Now with the upgrade I have something weird happening and wondered if anyone else who is running 890 is experiencing this. I cannot seem to get USB mode to operate on the D3 now. It is connected to my PC via USB, but its not showing up on the device as connected. Is this happening to anyone else?
Thanks,
Steve

I think this thread belongs in General. The answer (probably) is that you have the wrong USB mode selected from the menu pull-down. Hit the little android-usb icon up top and choose charge only, storage, or pc mode. Media sync might be the default.

No worries but its not that. The choice was not showing up in the notifications. It was only charging the battery. I read in another forum that its the USB cable, and would you believe thats it true.
So for all of you make sure you use the USB cable that came with your D3. Somehow in 890 its programmed differently.

I use the cable that came with my Droid Incredible (HTC) and the cable that came with my DroidX, with my Droid3 with no problems--959 and 890 firmwares. Both cables are wired differently, but the phone tolerates both of them well, although using the HTC cable does not give reliable Fastboot flashing or charge-only-mode (phone off) results. You might want to pitch that cable if it was giving you issues, they don't last forever!

890 works great for me except that the signal strength indicator doesn't like to turn blue at times when I am on wifi. Anyone else get this? Maybe I need to wipe data....

I would recommend a full wipe, as that was happening with mine too. Once I did a full data and cache wipe it went back to blue...I actually like the blue! Wish someone would put together an ADW theme with that blue...maybe I need to learn how to use ADW.

I just did a full data wipe and it still does it. If I go from 3G to WiFi, the WiFi indicator goes blue but the signal strength indicator bars stay white. If I put it into airplane mode from there then back, they both go blue. Odd....

Anyone having issues waking the phone from sleep mode?

Nope, been waking/sleeping quite fine here.

Same thing hapened to me... upgraded to 890 and then USB mode dropdown would not appear when connected via usb, it only charged; swapped out the USB cable and it was all good (too bad I didn't realize this until after I did a factory wipe)!

*EDIT*
It only seems to work for me when I'm connected to USB power...

Phone stuck in landscape mode, calls always start on speaker.Car or headset mode?

Hi,
My phone is flashed with Darky 7.8
Recently, my phone has become stuck in landscape mode. When I dial into Test Mode, the accelerometer correctly identifies the phones orientation.
Another odd behavior I am having is that whenever I start a call it starts on speaker phone.
This is leading me to believe I have my phone in some kind of Car Mode, or Headset Mode or something. I have no idea, but I can't turn it off....
Anyone know what might be happening?
Thanks
Mitch
Bump. Has anyone experienced this problem?
It is very bizzare.... :S
Hi,
I'm experimenting the same weird behaviour! But the worst thing is that no matter which ROM I flash, even with a stock one, the phone eventually will get stuck on landscape mode. I say eventually, because when I wipe user data from clock recovery the problem is fixed temporarily. Also, I have the same problem with the calls going to the phone speaker. Have you been able to solve it m1tch37??
I have the same problem with phone stuck in landscape and phone starts on speaker. I didn't flash the phone, just wipe data and factory reset, but still the same behavior. In plus USB connection seems to not working.
Anybody, any idea?
... bump
Also experiencing this and tried uninstalling various applications to no avail. Also noticed that the USB connection isn't working (can't mount with USB debugging set both on and off).
Really annoying because you have to switch the way you've trained using this phone.
bump..
nobody has managed to fix this issue.. i tried checking if the sensor is ok and it shows fine, i have stock leaked gingerbread but it does the same on froyo as well. is this a hardware issue???
Guys I've been through this problem but the solution is very simple
just deassemble your device and clean it from inside with a special liquid.
I did it and it worked fine.

the kernel is ok, i think it has something with its charging port because it does not connect to pc, only charges of it.
it happened to me accidentally flash the wrong kernel. So wen I flash the one everything goes ok. Why not try it maybe same will do.

[Q] USB No longer Working.......?

My Samsung Captivate was working fine a day ago when I was transferring video off of it to my PC. Now this comes up and I'm like WTH lol. I've never dropped my captivate or damaged it( to my knowledge).
I have read in other posts that the only way to fix this is to replace the mini usb port inside of the phone... If that is true could someone direct me to a site that sells it?
Or is It a battery issue? because It now has a problem with showing the charging battery symbol when its not charging now...
I also thought about going to At&T and letting them tell me what they think, only thing i'm afraid of is that without me being able to flash back to Official 2.1 Eclair they wont help me...
Any suggestions guys?
Bump T_T............
lol, make it totally bricked, att will not see if the phone cannot turn on.
Have you tried switching computers? My laptop stopped reading my phone, but my desktop picked it up just fine.
Try factory reseting and flashing to a new rom
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Well I would Flash it to stock, but how would I do that without the use of USB, because no computer can detect my phone as it is now.... the USB Port is damaged I believe.
As for Bricking it how can I do that because they told me I could replace it because I'm under warrenty, but they also told me that if its found out of warrenty that they may charge me upwards to 480 bucks for the replacement. The guy on the phone told me it only applied to cosmetic and liquid damage though, he didnt mention stuff like flashing the OS or modding.
This is strictly a Hardware Issue as it was working 2 days ago.
lol, you can easily brick your phone by doing the following:
1. download a rom;
2. go to recovery mode;
3. start flashing the rom and remove the battery during the process;
never help people like this ... i feel guilty ...
lol ikr? Never thought I'd ever ask that xD.
Can you plug your phone in to the wall charger and it charge. When you plug.it into.the PC are you getting a message about USB device not recognized. Are you using a.deshktop or a laptop what OS. If you are using a desktop are you using a port on the back preferrably the one closest to the motherboard. These are all things to take into account.
If when you plug it into the wall.or computer your phone will charge then most likely there is nothing wrong with your micro-usb on the phone. Instead its the computer. I had the same issue and had to fight with it for days but now it works everytime I plug [email protected]

like i said in the OP it was working 2 days ago perfectly and I did nothing to change it or damaged it in any way ( to my knowledge) maybe the usb port got messed up when i tried to charge it but I can still get a charge but the battery keeps showing its charging even when it is off of the charger.

only way to really know is by flashing another rom... use your mobile browser not xda app, and go to xda, find a rom thread, and use the mobile browser to download the rom over 3g... reboot into recovery to install it, it will be in the download directory on your internal SD...
Well I would do that but Now I have another problem... it turned off and now it wont turn back on!!!! UGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH!!

And Soon as my PC detected it I hurried and Downloaded Odin for Stock 2.1 and Put my Captivate in download mode using Cognition's Download mode option in the hold button popup on screen.
Long story short I was finally able to get my captivate back to 2.1 and the reported problem still exists... I'm calling ATT right now for my replacement that should be here in 2 days ^_^
Thanks Again to all the people here at xda for your help, I deeply appreciate it!
place dg cf7 on sd card via another phone or use an alternate browser to download it also get clockwork mod rec.zip and boot into recovery install from there, thats how I got back to stock after same problem as you, warranty phone.

[Q] After Changing Language, Vivid won't power on!

Hello, all! Needless to say, I have a problem. Here it goes: Today I factory reset my HTC Vivid, Unlocked Bootloader through HTCdev, perm rooted with the JBear All-In-One-Tool, installed CWM with the aforementioned tool, S-Off'd with the JBear tool and wire trick and unlocked my sim. Once all of this was done, I downloaded the app called "Freedom" (Free In-App purchases for AppStore (iOS 5, iOS 6 with JB, OS X) and Google Play), got the error "Freedom cannot be installed on this device," followed the advice to "Download localepicker and select russia or pyschh at the bottom of the app list!!and you are solved with all errors...." It worked and had Freedom working, but my phone was kind of laggy and I powered it down to restart it.
Here comes the problem: I try to power my phone on and nothing happens...nothing at ALL! I tried holding the vol down and power button...nothing. I have a back up battery and tried that with the same result. I removed the battery for about 10 minutes and came back to it, inserted the battery and tapped the power button and the backlight came on to a blank black screen and wont do anything else. I tried to plug it in to the computer via usb and flash the RUU I had on hand (just in case I wanted to quit failing at the wire trick lol) and I got a crazy sound. No the normal "successfully plugged in a usb device" sound, but a 3 tone (2 mid, 1 low) sound that reeked of rejection. I don't know what to do now obviously. I'm here! Any help would be loved and appreciated.
Thank you all in advance,
Mister Gilmore

Thank you, I appreciate anything you may or may not be able to find. I really want to avoid the HTC send seeing that it will cost me dearly. Warranty = Over.
Couple questions to out rule some conclusions
1: do you use set CPU or any over clocking app? If you did what were your configurations?
2: when you turn on the phone and the black screen appears can you hear any notification sounds or calls? ( try calling and texting yourself )
3: what ROM are you on? ( can't see from the xda mobile app )
4: how old is your vivid?
5: does the phone turn on using the original battery instead of your backup one?
6: does it charge?

1. No CPU or overclocking app.
2. There is no sound at all. I tried calling...no dice.
3. ICS 4.0.3
4. I've had it since November of last year (brand new) but I only used it until December. Then I didn't use it again until this December, so it's only been active only 2 months.
5. Both batteries power on to the backlit black screen, no vibration no sound, no wait. Even after i remove the battery, pressing the power button instantly turns it on. No 3-4 second wait like normal.
6. I can't tell if it's charging. No Orange/green light, but plugging it in turns on the screen (black/backlit).
Thank you so much.

Oh, no siiirr! I do not involve myself with piracy. I found Freedom after Google Play told me I had to repurchase certain items that got wiped out when I unlocked my bootloader. The statement on the page I got it from (I don't want to post the site seeing that I don't know if it would violate XDA policy) says:
"This software is not a Crack. No services or software were damaged. Freedom doesn't interfere in work of Google servers.
Remember: Freedom launcher was made only for legally installed applications. You can use this application to get content, already included in these apps. Please do not pirate Google Play apps."
As far as charging the battery, I had my back up charged fully and my regular batt was about 50%. My girlfriend has a vivid and the batteries work fine in her device.
Sorry to say but I think you are looking at a brick here dunno if its soft or hard though.....best to call up HTC as if you can't even get into bootloader then there isn't anything you can do

OK... try this...
Plug the phone in to the computer...
Wait for the screen backlight...
Hold power and volume down as to boot into boot loader...
I assume you have the HTC drivers installed...
Try to fastboot flash boot boot.img from the ROM you have... ICSS or whatever...
Yes... I know there is nothing on the screen... check the readout on your terminal window...
Hopefully it will flash...
If that works... download twrp from goo.im for the holiday and flash that... see if it comes to life

New information: As I was attempting what you mentioned, instead of the instant "2 mid, 1 low" sound from my computer when I plugged the phone in, it was delayed about 4 seconds. ALSO, WHen I attempted to run the latest RUU WITH the battery, I was told my battery was below 30%. Charge battery and try again. When I attempted the same thing with no battery at all I was told that the device could not be found. Is this a good thing that something remotely recognizes my device? Is there hope still?

Just buckled down and called HTC. I'm Still under Warranty. So I'm gonna send it in Monday. Thanks to you all anyway.
Same issue
I'm having the exact same issue with my Vivid too. My phone has been S-off and all that fun stuff for a long time so I know that has nothing to do with it. Order of my actions leading to it are as followed.
Using TWRP I did a factory reset/wipe then flashed from Paranoid Android 4.1.2 Rom to the PACMAN 4.3 Rom, I have used the Pacman rom briefly before so I don't think its the actual ROM that has anything to do with it.
Instantly upon boot my 32gb sd card became corrupt and unusable right after finishing installation. I reboot my phone to see if it was just a hiccup and would come back. That was it. Now I just get the lit black screen with nothing else. All 3 batteries have a full charge. I keep two fully charged then once the current is drained completely I do a swap to maximize battery life. Let it die 100% followed by an uninterrupted charge. I was really hoping to find an answer here. But to read the phrase "This is a new issue I've never heard of" scares me. I've tasted the android sweet life... I can't go back to a crappy flip phone now. :'( I'll keep looking around and if I catch on to something I'll keep you posted of my findings.
So I just tried plugging into my computer, and I got a driver installation window. (Yes my HTC drivers are installed) Its looking for drivers for a device named "QHSUSB_DLOAD" I have never seen that before, even without HTC drivers.
Qhsusb_dload is the universal sign for bricked... I don't know what causes it... But... The known fix is JTAG.... Very sorry for your loss

Friend's "Dead" Phone Problem

Hey everyone,
My friend came across an unfortunate problem with his HTC One. This is what happened according to him:
For the past few months the battery life was getting worse and became terrible, but it's been otherwise fine in terms of performance.
He was at work playing some music via aux
The song stopped playing unexpectedly
Figured that it was a problem with YouTube was like wtf, so he closed YouTube and tried reloading.
It wouldn't show anything and nothing worked, left it that way as to not mess it up more.
Then it completely froze and he shut it off
Not it wont turn back on at all.
He said he left it plugged in charging for a while, still nothing. Tried overnight, still nothing.
Says he really wants to get at least his pictures out of his phone.
So, what are some troubleshooting steps he can take, or what can he do?

try to boot the phone while shinning a bright light to the light sensor. (this is protection to avoid booting the phone when its in your pocket)
Press and hold Power and Volume down for at least 30 sec
Connect the phone to a Windows computer using the original usb cable (or any other cable already known to work for data transfer) to a USB 2.0 port on your computer, then go to Windows devices manger, is the device detected as QHSUSB ? Or Qualcomm something?
Hi thanks for the reply.

Since the phone went in QHUSB_DLOAD by itself and randomly, this is an hardware failure, the phone will need a new motherboard. It would be fixable only if the phone went in this mode directly after flashing a (incompatible) firmware. Unfortunately there is no way to recover the data from it since the emmc is soldered on that defective board.
Sorry
Wow damn that's real bummer... so there really isn't anything he could do? I remember him telling me that he wanted to salvage pictures from his graduation, but this problem is not letting him

Unfortunately no. Another perfect example why you must backup your important files regularly. Smartphones are unreliable for preserving data, they are not made to last very long (well like everything nowadays ).
I already heard of someone desoldering his emmc chip (not from a M7 btw) and soldering it back to other hardware to extract the data so this is not impossible but your friend would have to find someone really qualified to try this kind of thing and it will probably not be cheap if it can be done..... But no there is no conventional method (using your computer and a usb cable) to extract any data from this phone.
@alray I know it sounds silly, but would it be possibly to save the pics by booting into twrp and copying them to a USB otg?
I'm guessing no
And yeah, it's always a bad idea to keep important files and data on one device.. be it a USB flash drive, an external hdd, a laptop, a smartphone.... etc
there's always the chance of it refusing to work or getting stolen.

Doesn't matters what it's saying exactly, it's dead. It's only possible to unbrick a m7 that went in a "Qualcomm something" mode because of a bad firmware flash. If it went in that mode itself, without flashing, your phone is dead.

Oh yeah. Sorry. Meant to come back and do that. Been really busy.
So my projector was not using the phone battery after the projector battery went down. Also when I plugged the power into the phone it wasn't getting to the projector. I was having to plug directly into the projector. I tried restarting the phone with the projector attached and tried restarting the mod itself from the menu but nothing worked. Not exactly sure which thing fixed it but I ran the projector all the way down where it could not run on its own power. Removed it from the phone and plugged in the projector by itself and used the little reset button on the mod. Put the mod back on the phone booted into recovery and did a cache wipe. With the mod still on the phone plugged in the phone and rebooted. After rebooting restarted the mod from the menu. And it started working. Like I said not sure which thing actually did the trick but it's working fine now. :good:
