[RUMOR] I hate rumors but here it goes... - LG Revolution

I hate hearing rumors, I really do. But I'm going to start one because mine has some merit to it. I have a friend of mine that works for Verizon. I told him I wouldn't state his name or what "department" he works in when I made this post. I was talking to him on the phone just about 45 minutes ago about the Revolution and how we're dying to get Gingerbread and how some people are actually getting rid of the Revo for fear that it will never get GB. Here's the conversation that took place.
Me: I just really wish we'd get it already. It would help out with development so much.
Him: Dude, whatever you do, don't get rid of your Revo.
Me: Haha, I'm not but why?
Him: You guys should be getting the soak test soon and as long as it goes good all Revos will have it by mid or late October.
Me: Don't bull**** me, how do you know?
Him: Trust me, it just came through an email 2 days ago. I meant to call you but I couldn't remember if you had actually bought the Revo or just waited for something different.
Me: Damn man that's awesome! You better not be bullshitting me.
Him: I'll put it this way, I put my paycheck on it.
Me: That's awesome man, hey can I tell people about our convo?
Him: I don't care, just don't use my name or where I work.
Me: Kinda HAVE to tell people where you work or I'll look like a retard hahaha.
Him: Oh ok but don't tell them what department I work in or anything. I already almost got fired a while back for putting out some info about the Bionic hahaha.
Me: Alright cool, hey thanks man. You have no idea how happy a lot of people are going to be when we get GB.
The rest of the convo was filled with nonsense talk about times past (and girls haha). Just thought I should share this info with you guys!

Loving this. I want GB!!!

I'm speechless
Thanks for the news.

if your asking what a "soak test" is then ill answer as best i can
a Soak Test is when the send out the update to a select few people and make sure that the update works in the real world with out breaking anything.

Soak testing is testing a system with a significant load over an extended period of time to discover how things act over a long period.
What he is saying is there are Revo's out there with 2.3.4 already installed on them. Verizon employees will carry and use a Revo on a daily basis with 2.3 loaded to see how it performs, what glitches arise etc...
If you play video games its kind of like an beta test only its not generally open to the public. During this time they also test the push out of the update to the phone to make sure everything will go smooth when they start pushing it to thousands at once.

what i read, someone is getting thecubed a leak of GB and that will help him get CM7 going faster..
now that was what i read under the CM7 post so who knows

Its probably the same leak the cubed has been waiting for. This will help him get the files to port over cm7. Great to hear!

Just want to update you guys a little more from my newest conversation.
Unfortunately he is in no position to get us a leak.
He works for tech support and received an email stating to be ready for possible high call volumes in about 2-3 weeks as the Gingerbread soak test begins for the LG Revolution. That was about all the email said.
Again though, this is in no way going to help us get a leak. Sorry guys.

"Home-Less and Iconic"Ok so think we should drop back into the original ROM with the
V6 update? maybe luck out and get an update in the next 2-3 weeks
Hmmm?
Might be worth having a stock phone if it got the OTA update with gingerbread in it.
Think i'm going to check out Revolt 1.4 tonight and go back to stock in the morning.
Please, any thoughts on this?

I wouldn't worry about going to back to stock just yet. According to the email, the soak isn't even going to start unil about 2-3 weeks from Monday the 12th.

Not sure how lg does it but you can sign up for these soak test with motorola they will even send them out to a few people who have gotten root access and have gotten back to stock as close as possible without having root access. check the droid 3 forums they just either did one or just sent out the invite to join the soak test. While the Revo is a great single core phone... Hardware wise.
Bionic:
1. Dual Core future proof
2. 2.3.4 out of the box
3. Gorilla glass screen
4. qHD
5. 8mp Camera
6. 1745 MaH battery
7. 1080p Video recording
8. For the non-rooted - No Bing.

Although I agree with most of what you said is better here, I sure wouldn't say that dual core is future proof. They had already began discussing quad core before the first dual core even came out.

Not a rumor - we have always known GB was coming. This is partly why Cubed had delayed his CM7 development.

Throwing more cores at a device does not necessarily increase performance, either, unless the application base and operating system takes full advantage of them for multi-threading.
Case in point: Most hard-core games on a PC that came out over the past 5 years will run the same, if not better on a single or dual core machine as they did on a quad core. What really makes the difference is architecture, clockspeed, application architecture, and most importantly (assuming the apps use it) GPU implementation!
Assuming all apps were hardware accelerated on an Android, you would care more about the GPU then you would the CPU. Being that a lot of apps are not hardware accelerated, or take advantage of aggressive multi-threading, you may actually see a performance drop on the Bionic depending on the implementation of the devices core implementation (much like the scores from the Atrix showed).
The hype of more cores = smoother experience is bunk. It's just a spec and numbers war. More cores = possibility of more apps running seamlessly at once, but only if the architecture is there to support it.

I'm not complaining. I understand that it is largely a payless and thankless job. I'm just saying it sucks that a phone that has only been out for 9 days already has more development for it then one that has been out almost 3 months when the hardware is essentially the same. I mean, the Bionic got Fastboot Recovery in like 5 days when it took us 2 months. I'm aware that we will get everything the Bionic does, it just seems like we'll always be second in line. In the long run it doesn't matter, both phones will have 2nd-init and ICS/CM8 in the future.

I do not like the demanding attitude some people seem to have, so I'm not sure it's even worth to reply in this thread ... anyway ...
Keep in mind it took a lot of time to have D3 even rooted, while Bionic users and devs just benefitted from the D3 root exploit.
I too am honestly a bit pissed that the bionic got more attention given it is riding the dev wave of d3.

A couple have guys have been working side by side with cvpcs to get it up and running. They're making sure that there aren't any bugs before they release it.
The last thing we want is ruining a bunch of D3's because we released it early. They said a release today is probably a good bet.

I bet part of the reason the bionic is getting all this attention is the fact that its been out for months in the form of the atrix. Plus the amount of hype it has had over the last several months. Recovery is coming along nicely for our D3's

Yeah, I get no data in the school I work in (hurricane shelter) and no 4G coverage at my house.
I have heard that a 3G phone on WiFi is as fast as 4G. That said the 4G/3G is really a non issue. With my D1 it rocked, CM7 nightlies #175, jdlfg 1266mhz @1100, Koush-Any-Kernel-b0e8859, Superuser 3.0 beta 4 efgh, Quardant Standard 1741. D3 will be out front always. I am satisfied to be in the mix. Bionic can do its lap dance, I'll watch. We're all winning, thats whats so great about this. All glory to the DEvs.

To return, or not to return? Ti omap, or tegra ii?

So while i was at the store juggling between returning the bionic for the droid 3 or X2, i compared the 3 side by side... i decided to stick around and stay loyal to my bionic, 1) cause the bootloader hasnt been unlocked on any of the three, 2) because we have some serious devs working on decrypting the bootloader for the bionic, and last but not least, the TI OMAP processor. Now i dont know much about the latter, nor do i know the differences between the two. But i do know that Moto is one of the originals in the cell game and i trust there reasons to change were with good intentions and knowledge on the 2 processors. Does anyone know why they changed? Which is faster? Better? More efficient? Or was it purely a case of the TI OMAP being cheaper? Thanks for any insight anyone can provide me with as it may just be the push off the fence that i need..... I will be researching the matter in depth myself so any updates i have will be posted in the OP.

Whatever you do, stay away from the X2. It has so many issues from random restarts to pandora / music randomly skipping and cutting out.
And the D3 is okay, but no real advantage over the Bionic, save for the keyboard. And you lose 4g too.
Ti plays nice with ice cream sandwich.

The X2 isn't horrible - I rocked it from May until last Friday. I might have had less issues with it than my Bionic. I think if the X2 had a gig of RAM it would compete head to head with the Bionic - minus the 4g of course.
They are both dual core 1ghz chips but the tegra 2 has an arm a7 in it for when the processor load is low for more power savings, this is done by lowering the clocks of the more power hungry cores, but the tegra 2 cannot decode as many video formats and is slightly slower in the gpu area, those are the only notable deferences i know of.
Edit: also the ti omap allows for 3d technology like screens and cameras and also dual channel memory (ram) which is quicker overall from single channel

Being the new kid on the block, i hope this is what you mentioned re. Bionic. I just purchased my Bionic yesterday and by the evening had it rooted. The simple instructions (after downloading the two support files) where very easy and almost fool-proof. It takes about 15 min and when complete you are rooted and have Clockworkmod 5. recovery.

I thanked you for the valiant effort, and being the "new kid on the block" you still have some things to learn, and in time you will, it took me a lot of time myself. Pardon me if i sound arrogant, as im not trying to, im simply just trying to be blunt about making my point. My phone is already rooted, backed up, and i am running a custom ROM. There is a world of a difference between unlocking the bootloader and rooting a phone. Rooting only gives you "root access". Unlocking the bootloader would actually give us the ability to hack and mod the kernel, among many, many other useful things.
If your interested in trying out the best screen on verizon I would trade my charge for your bionic if you get bored

I just hope they deliver ICS though, I won't care if they dont release GB if ICS is up and running on the phone
If the GB update solve all the current issues, I dont think it would take much time for them to deliver ICS, but still it depends on LG it they wants to give us ICS.

[MODS] Droid 4 mods/hacks

post your droid 4 mods or hacks here! I myself do not have any of said mods/hacks, but im sure someone out there does!
Looks like a 1.4ghz oc has been ported:
https://code.google.com/p/opptimizer/downloads/list
interesting on the OC.....I won't try it yet until I have an sbf or some sort of serious recovery option. Do not want to soft brick my new phone just yet. Thanks for posting that though!
I do not know if you really call any of this "hacking". I used TiB and froze all the bloat(will not uninstall until SBF option). I used rom toolbox and stopped a lot of programs from auto opening, increased wifi scan interval to try and save battery a bit. I changed my boot animation to the Nexus one....what else........I was going to attempt the script by naven to flip flop the internal storage and mem card but I dont think I want to just yet. I suppose this is just more optimization than anything...but it did make the phone a bit peppier. So far this phone is great, I really like it.
Stupid question, but how close is the Droid 4 / Razr in terms of hardware? Can a ROM from Razr be easily ported on to the Droid 4?

As far as radio & processors, it's pretty much the same as the RAZR, but with physical keyboard & an upgraded CMOS sensor on the camera, any ROM from a RAZR would need some pretty heavy modification to work with the D4.
It won't be as big as if you were starting from scratch or modding a D3 ROM, but it's still going to be a process.

Agreed. This is the first time I've had a "brand new" phone, meant in both ways. The last phones I've had, already had the SBF files(since I was using D1 and D2G). How long has it typically taken, in the past, for them to leak those files? I can't wait for them to release to start playing with files and trying new things.

I already have 3 of my friends contemplating buying one since it was rooted in a day, wifi tethered in 2 and OC'd in less than a week. The developement for this is going to be awesome once the ball gets rolling. WE HAD ROOT THE DAY IT CAME OUT... come on... lol

We had OC and tether the day it came out also. I was testing it for the dev of AWT and the same developer created the modules for OCing....those were already setup for the razr. We just wanted to make sure they would work with the d4 also. JUST FYI.

Nougat

Nougat coming in the next few months...?

Sounds good to me! I'm on DL every day, but man there are some haters in the comments lol. It's like Motorola/Lenovo killed their firstborn or something.

I've always been of the mind that people are more likely to post to complain than otherwise. You rarely see, "hey, this is great!" .. I think it is often assumed that posting those kinds of comments add nothing to the discussion, so people don't do it...
Respond if you agree

Agreed. I see what you did there.
If it turns out to be true and even if they they just push it to those who oped in for soak test and whatnot and not a full out release in the next few weeks i am happy with Lenovo and this phone. I love what Lenovo did with the phone. I said updates will make or break it and i was scared about that when they said they could not commit to the security patches. But were getting those patches and have a word on the update so far so good. Hope they keep it up. This is the best phone out all around.
I'll still believe it when I see it. Moto has really been sucking badly on updates the last few years.

But the last few months they've been excelling!
All I know, as a Samsung fanboy in the past... I couldn't be happier that I chose to change to the Z Force... besides not bursting into flames in my pocket... the battery life puts EVERY Samsung I ever had to shame.

I agree 100% the funny part is I decided I needed a non samsung device as soon as I saw that lil wayne commercial that had him dumping champagne on the phone. I told coworkers that wanted the Note 7 prior to the release to get this phone instead because Samsung spent far too much for lil wayne for proper research and development, they all made fun of me...until the note started exploding.

Off topic but the issue is simple with the Note 7. I checked this my self. But its not cheap for them and the "Fixed" ones were not fixed and there was no way for them to fix it.
Simple version. The IC samsung chosen to handle the monitoring of the voltage for the battery was the cheapest they could find. That being said they can be way off in terms of calibration. The note 7 i had charged my battery to 4.9v. Phone would read 4.405v but a fluke on the batt reads 4.921v. And that is dangerous. So for all i know they could be charging to 5+ volts and no wounder they are bursting into flames. Issue has nothing to do with the battery and changing it wont do a thing. Its an issue with the ic on the board. And the IC has been used in other things that handle li-ion and li-po related charging and also caused problems on them.
Back on topic.
So we get 7.0 before the end of the year. Im guessing November. So far so good on the updates. But im wondering if they are going 7.0 or just going to jump to 7.1. Chances are no 7.1 that fast but so far the updates have been good. And the moto mod updates have been amazing. I would like to see 7.0 by Nov. 17th. But we prob wont see the roll out start until the end of Nov.
Does anyone know if Nougat will return the ability to save to SD or move apps to external sd?

It will not. Motorola has removed the Apps 2 SD feature. It was replaced by Adoptable Storage.

Just finished installing the Nougat update on my phone. After updating I tested it out in a Daydream VR and it works!
I wish someone would post the update files
Uuuurgh I wish there was a way to force it. I've been obsessively checking for software updates all day :|

Yes yes yes yes yes. Got rid of my Gear VR and S7 Edge for a PSVR and have been waiting for a good headset for my Z Droid. So it works with the remote and what not?

Yup, works exactly like it does on the Pixel. It runs the Daydream app, supports the VR keyboard, etc.

Not that I'm aware of. I've done plenty of soak tests for previous Moto devices and I got invites for soak tests for the camera and projector (which I don't have either), but I never got one for the phone. The update just popped up for me last night.
So far the only Nougat issues I'm having is the fact that my Ambient Moto Display no longer works. Slightly annoying, but it could be worse.

Great that means it's a general release!
Do a hard reset, it's always recommended to do a hard reset after a major update for optimal performance and user experience.
Strike my last statement. I just got it working. I need up just clearing the data for the Moto app and set it up again. Moto Display seems to work perfectly fine now.
