Best news I've heard all day. I've been checking back almost hourly to see when this would be ready. Can't wait till it supports rom flashing! I hear someone already has a AOSP rom cooked up for us. Big ups to all the devs!

I haven't heard anything about an AOSP rom, but over at Droid Forums, there is a Steel Droid beta coming soon. I remember SD on my D1, so I'm excited. Can't wait until we can flash stuff, we're so close.

Yes sir, your quite right. It IS coming soon. I already have a packaged and deodexed version ready to go, once CWM supports ROM flashing. Of course, with no unlocked bootloader, there isnt much I can do about overclocking, but the rest of the tweaks should be very welcome!

Isn't the point of 2nd-init to be able to use custom roms w/ a locked bootloader?

Anyone used this? Im still on the original recovery so not sure if i should use this or what i should do? Any ideas? Suggestions?

It was quick and easy to run it again...if you've already done it the first time it's just going to update to the newest recovery version...about 5 minutes of your time
well we've all used it, its the only way right now to get roms and easily get into adb in recovery, its very easy to do
just reflashed the updated version and did fine
Just did it... im pretty familiar with android but not using a tool to flash recovery. Tried a couple of different ROMs but waiting for something that is actually better than my senseUI people complain but its better tan stock. Just makes for longer update waits. Wish we could port bookmarks widget.

It's all good man. Basically...with the encrypted bootloader, only "official" roms would allow the phone to boot. So if a custom rom was flashed, it would stay in recovery mode. With this, if everything goes right, the custom recovery will allow the flashing of roms and booting back into android. Hope that makes sense.
No risk. We're all here to help and learn.
The reason this is exciting is that it is the first step towards custom ROMs.
To explain further: Recovery is used on a stock phone to help you recover when you have screwed something up by taking you back to the same state the phone was in when you first unboxed it by loading the stock ROM. Loading a custom recovery, if 100% successful would then allow you to load custom ROMs. However, the X also has encryption that requires a signature on the ROM that is loaded before it will actually boot the phone with the custom ROM.
I think there is some stuff that I missed here but this is the general idea.
The one thing I'm not 100% certain of is if they're going need to work on the encryption still or if a custom recovery gets around that. In this case for some reason I'm getting the sense that the encryption isn't stopping birdman.
all i can say is gimmmmeeeeeeeeee
Great job, keep up the good work. Patiently waiting.

This is huge. We should see custom ROMs shortly after we see a released CR.
Unfortunately, we'll only see custom roms with stock kernels, which isn't quite ideal. I'm still enthusiastic about this though.
True, but we will get a 2.2 kernel when Froyo is released for the X and that will make things just that much better.
I say we look at the fact that we're going to get custom ROMs on a device that is supposed to be totally locked down, even though we will not have custom kernels.
I realize we're not going to be able to truly load an overclocked our undervolted kernel. But the custom ROMs are going to rock.
Please pardon my noobiness here, but how does the kernel affect the roms we can load? Mainly can I load a CM 2.2 rom?

Roms are in the future but kernels no
kernels not only help.you over clock but it effects the UI also but yea we can expect to see CM because of KOUSH

Nspbass - the kernel is what talks to all of the hardware on your phone and we would have to have an unlocked bootloader to put custom kernels on the phone. To load a custom ROM without a custom kernel means someone has to port CM 2.2 over to the X by making it work on a 2.1 kernel and we won't have a true version of Froyo.
However, when we get the 2.2ota update our rockstar devs will very likely get under the covers and give us a full 2.2 version.
One the + side they do have a dev phone that has 2.2.1 on it so we may see it sooner than we think.
Hope this helps.
EDIT: Check this out - we MAY be able to load alternate kernels in the future without unlocking the bootloader: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aMPUcY71Yc

I can't remember for sure, but backups made with an older recovery version won't restore on this version right? Is it still orange? The 4.x incredible 2 recovery is deep blue/purple, but I think it might be unique to that particular version. Pretty important difference I know.. But what might the benefits to the new version be?
Tried to wait and couldn't..
Flashed fine and all seems OK.
Honestly I don't see any difference. It's still orange.

Not trying to be a **** but I don't think this should really be called CWM as Koush didn't make it. Unless he authorized someone else to mod it for him but the dev gives no indication that that was the case. I might be unaware that birdman took over CWM development in that case I apologize. It kind of misleads people into thinking this is from Koush and that they can expect it to show up in ROM Manager soon which it won't. Might have been better to name it Modded CWM 4.0.0.5.

Thats cool and like I said I wasn't trying to disrespect birdman just the name he choose is confusing. I saw the thread title and said cool Koush is putting out a new CWM and kept checking ROM manager for it. Finally came back here and followed the link and saw it wasn't Koush's work and was dissapointed. I only download from a few trusted dev's and not into trying alpha's unless absolutely necessary. Like when my Eris lost is trackball function last summer and a guy I met in the forums made the group a version of amon's recovery that didn't need it.

[ ROM ][ 7-27 ] HMJ37.UEKM7 with TouchWiz for the GT-P7510

This ROM is based on the OTA that t3rabyte received, it's completely stock with root and busybox. This is meant as a flashable version of the dump he posted, so I don't plan on posting mods or fixes for it as I am also posting a custom ROM later based on this that I will do that for.
Also the kernel has been slightly modded to disable secure mode & enable init.d support.
I HIGHLY recommend you factory reset/wipe data before you flash this, even if your coming from the other TouchWiz ROM
The 2 version are:
Calkulin's_GT-P7510_HMJ37.UEKM7_ROM - Stock form
Calkulin's_GT-P7510_HMJ37.UEKM7_De-odex'd_ROM - De-odex'd for theming, mods, etc
Special thanks to t3rabyte
Nice, i add some mods to it
Very cool, thanks for the effort. Can't wait to see what you come up with! I need to root my GT, was waiting for the weekend but maybe tonight...
So installing the first one is basically like getting the update straight from the horses mouth? Sans the root and busybox of course.

The Rom is in .zip so you need CWM in order to install.
Look here or Here For instructions on how to install CWM.
Then download the .zip install it through CWM. The rom is already rooted.
For a locked tab, your only option probably is to flash the clockworkmod recovery through ODIN, instructions are in this that thread

Droid 3 Kexec WORKING CM9 Rom

Working Droid 3 CM9 Kexec ROM, by Hashcode (Not mine)
I DID NOT MAKE THIS ROM, HASHCODE DID, and I am not sure why no one else has it, which is why I am posting it. Hashcode developed this rom, not I. I am not taking credit for his rom.
Since I am not able to post in the dev threads, I need to post this here, and hope one of you kind moderators will move it for me. I see a lot of the people in the KExec JB/ICS CMx thread by hashcode complaining about how the CM9 does NOT work. However, I have a fully functional CM9 on my droid 3, and have een using it day to day for a few days now. I don't know why I have it, and they don't but it is what it is.
Neither I, Nor Hashcode, nor XDA-developers is responsible if you mess up your device. It will not mess it up if you are not a clown when flashing lol, but just in case you are, its NOT MY FAULT.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Important ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Flashing Instructions:
ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR APPS USING TITANIUM BACKUP BEFORE A FLASH
From CM 7.2 : Do a full backup before flashing. Wipe data/factory reset, clear cache, and clear dalvik cache, then flash your device, reboot. Restore apps using Titanium Backup.
From other non Cyanogenmod Rom : Do full backup before flashing. WIpe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, then flash the rom. Restore apps using titanium backup.
From non functional/other CM9 rom: clear cache, clear dalvik cache, then flash. You do not need to wipe data when flashing from another CM9, but if a problem arises, it would be a good thing to do as a second attempt.

Non kexec. That's the CM9 rom with a motorola GB kernel. The easiest way to tell a rom is Kexec, if you can't tell by the ways a dev can, Run Chrome. Does it work? If not, then its not a kexec based rom.
Does it have a kexec folder in system/etc?
Does it use "wlan" as it's wlan interface rather than tiwlan?
Does it say anywhere in the buildprop that it's kexec?
If you answered no to any of these questions, than it is not kexc.
If this is from Feb 24th it's not kexec cm9.

Not Kexec. I downloaded the rom and kexec is not there. It should be located system/etc/kexec. Once again this is a CM9 ICS rom powered by a Motorola GB kernel.
