[Q] How do you change the product code to Italy? - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
I want to set the product code to Italy so I can update to Gingerbread.
roncza gave me clear instructions in this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1086484&page=33 thread --
In the phone app of your tab just enter:
*#272*IMEI number#
Where "IMEI number is your IMEI. You can find our this one under Settings -> About device -> Status -> IMEI.
When you entered the above code you will get a selection with all the product codes and you can shose ITV here for Italy.
Attention: This will reset your device to factory settings and all data will be erased. So, please make a backup first.
After the reboot of the tab you can just connect to Kies and for me it found the update to Gingerbread.
So, no real guarantee but I hope this will help you.
I tried it and I get a second screen with
Preconfig
Sales Code ..........................XEU............
..
..
..
INSTALL ... CANCEL
If I press INSTALL I get the message " must beTHREE chars "
I cannot input into the box where XEU is written. No keyboard is activated if I press in the box where XEU is written...
So my question is how can I input ITV into the box that has XEU?
Any advice appreciated.
Ofiaich

there is something wrong on as your present firmware does not contain ITV, only XEU is present so you will not be able to change to ITV if the code 272 does not display ITV. The code 272 should present you with all available csc for you to select and tick on a button. You don't input it by keyboard.
I suggest you reflash.

Thanks,
I knew about the drop down list but I was hoping to input ITV via the keypboard.
Samsung's own tablet recovery service in the UK reflashed my tablet recently.
I will just wait, wait, wait, for Samsung's official update.

Try re-installing Kies....Kies is like devil! I Hate it !
flash wice ur problem will be solved.!!!
I flashed twice but not solved my problem. I then re-installed Kies after twice-flashing and it solved my problem.
great now delete this thread......
For future reference:
The problem is that your locale was changed from INU (more likely) or INS to something else, in your CSC.
To access the settings to change your CSC, you need your IMEI number.
Get this by using the code : *#06# , in the phone dialer.
It should be 15 digits. Write it down someplace for this next step.
Open the dialer and input : *#272*<enter 15 digit IMEI>*
It should instantly display a menu. If you get an error, make sure the code is correct and that you have taken down your IMEI correctly.
Now choose your locale from the options presented.
For your locale, check this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787163

Firmware upgrade is not supported by Kies.WTF??

When I plug my phone to the computer it connects to Kies but it comes up with this message.
The phone was bought from Handtec UK they seem to have bought these from Poland and the startup language is Swiss.
The firmware on the handset is not region coded that's why Kies does not update the phone eg the firmware number should have (xeu) or (dbt) (specific to region for eg dbt is for germany) after it specifying the region, this one doesn't.
I'm going to send mine back as I don't want to root this phone.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Same here. But i thought an update would be available later?
Dont worry friends. When update for galaxy note is available in your region, ur installed version of KIES will be updated to support the upgrade. Theres nothing wrong with your devices.
Are on a Mac? The OSX version of Kies doesnt support firmware upgrades.

I don't think so, when there is no update it usually says you are on the current firmware.
this is a problem with the region coding. These devices don't have a region code ID suffix. For eg: XEU, DBT, XXF, ROM. These basically tell Kies what region the device is from. If that is missing there is no way Kies can update cos it will not understand what region the device is from. I think I'm right, pls correct me if I'm wrong
Thank you.

Um. I have a Handtec Polish Note.
Kies gives me the "Your device does not support software upgrading by Kies" message.
Doing a *#272*imei#* (Display/change CSC code) displayed region KOR.
I changed it to XEU but no go, just made my phone hard reset.
Device still unsupported.
Maybe it won't work in Australia.
This won't matter in the long run.
Success.
See here
So root is the only way? we are f*ucked!

I changed the CSC Code (kies wont allow you to upgrade if you have KOR code, as this is the generic one and it is not linked to any region)
Just type type in *#272*IMEI# in your dialer (IMEI=your IMEI number)and it will come up a menu to choose the CSC.
I choose DBT (Germany) and after that was able to update via Kies.
NOTICE THAT CHANGING THE CSC CODE WILL RESET YOUR TERMINAL AND YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR DATA (factory reset).

[Q] Manually change CSC

Hi to everyone!.
Like the title says, I want to manually change the CSC of a i9000b to a unlisted one, so after a bit of search I've found this two directories that contains CSC:
-/system/csc/sales_code.dat
-/efs/imei/mps_code.dat
Editing the first one (sales_code.dat) does nothing, and I've fear to edit the second one (mps_code.dat in efs).
So there is any risk of edditing only 'mps_code.dat' and don't mess IMEI number or anything else?
This will change the phone CSC?
With the retail CSC on the phone, I can get a retail firmware update from Kies?
Thanks to all
Have you tried *#272*your imei#
This will give you a selection of csc codes to choose from. If you do pick any of them it will instantly factory reset your phone with no warning.
If you have tried this please explain what you mean by "unlisted" csc code. You mean one that does not have network firmware? If so then CSC will not change your firmware you will have to install another firmware for that (an unbranded firmware).
If you wish to remove the network lock this will not work, you need to get the unlock code, search for that or call your provider and they will do it for you at a cost.
Also i would not advise changing anything in the efs folder, as you mentioned, it could mess up your imei...
Let me know if that helps..

Hi , the point is that I don't have multi CSC (I can't change it by *#272*...*) so I've to change to a 'unlisted' one.
I never say that that will change my firmware, the idea is that with the CSC changed to a retail one, Kies will enable my to update a Retail Firmware to the phone. (or maybe not?, that's the point)

Unfortunately that will not work. If you want retail firmware (unlocked/ non-carrier/ no-network firmware?) then you will have to install that first. If you search for it in the general section you should be able to find it, search for stock firmware. Also you can get it via Sammobile.com Click on firmwares tab (underneath the news link at the top) and follow till you find the stock firmware for you region.

Why it will not work? Can you explain? thanks
CSC i think stands for "country specific code". However even if it doesn't it is a relation to what the code is.
The code identifies the region/country you are in. For example I'm in the UK therefore i have a CSC code of XEU this is a code that is for the EU. Which could affect the signal performance, i may get better or i may get worse or i may get no signal at all. Also I may get 2g signal but no data connection etc. It could also cause issues with receiving SMS messages if the correct or compatible code is not used. For example the time and date may be incorrect, the messages in the list may be out of order (the message you sent is below the reply received).
Therefore it affects your relationship with the carrier and is usually better optimised for your country/region. When you connect to Kies the CSC code is taken into account but so is the actual firmware. By changing the CSC you do not change the firmware to stock firmware it remains carrier/network customised. As such this will be detected by Kies when you connect. If you change the CSC and then connect to Kies I think it does not accept your firmware installed as original authorised firmware, as my CSC was set to KOR after returning from a software reflash from an authorised repair centre. However this may be different for you and I cannot guarantee what will happen but to my knowledge this will not work.
As i mentioned you will need to flash stock firmware yourself or go to a non-carrier authorised repair centre (I used carphone warehouse in the UK) and ask for a software update. You can find your nearest authorised repair centre on the samsung website.
Also if you search you will probably find a better explanation to what CSC is and understand why it won't work, I did my best hope it makes sense
I get your point , instead of CSC I think I was trying to mean Product Code.
By edditing Product Code (and a valid Software revision?) can I cheat Kies to get me a retail update?. Like the old method of editing the registry but on the phone.
Unfortunately I'm not experienced enough to give you an answer on that. But I would think that it would take more than that to trick Kies.
What is holding you back from going to an authorised repair centre or a just using Odin? (Using Odin is actually quite simple provided you follow the steps and have the right files, which Sammobile does provide). You will be left with the retail firmware and Kies will recognise you and provide any updates available.
The problem is that I couldn't find the firmware on samfirmware or any other site. I've found this just now http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1032437, so maybe I can finally get the official upgrade.
Sorry to bring this back up, but my CSC is blank too.
I typed in the *#272*your imei# and the option for sales code VOD came up. I selected it, but it tells me that "Must be THREE chars". VOD is three characters. Why cant I select it???
Hi
I live in holland, so i don't have the 4.0.4 update yet. If i change my CSC, does it change region so i can download the 4.0.4 update?
thanks in advance

[Q] Fooling Kies with an IP in a different country

Is there a way to fool Kies to get an update for ICS? I live in Australia and I am getting bloody sick of waiting for official firmware updates when it is release in almost entire rest of the bloody world.
I have had a crack at using Easy-Hide IP and diverting the software that way but it doesn't seem to work.
Anyone have any advice?
The reason that I want to do it this way is so that I don't have to re-install all of my programs.
Cheers,
Grady
generally speaking you can spoof your ip by forcing any pplications that do not support working through proxy servers to operate through a SOCKS or HTTPS proxy and chains
download " proxifier "
If I'm not mistaken the update refer to phone CSC code.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
You don't have to change your IP. All you have to do is to change your CSC code to a country that already has the update
all you have to do is bring up the dialer and type *#272(Insert IMEI code here)#. If you don't want to bring out your box or remove the battery to view your IMEI code, you can dial *#06#. All I can say is that the ICS is already released here in the Philippines but you can try to experiment with the CSC codes if an update is available in their country. Once done, you can revert back to your original CSC code (if the option's available)
WARNING: Resetting the CSC code will reformat your phone. If you have any valuable data such as pictures, movies, and music, I suggest you make a soft backup. You can also backup your contacts and SMS through Kies.
It's so strange that Samsung would delay their update rollout in a country like Australia.

Thanks to the both of you for pointing me in this direction.
I have just done this and discovered that I have three viable options (XEO-POLAND, FOP-SPAIN, ATO-AUSTRIA) so I will have a crack at this tomorrow morning when my phone is at 100% battery and I have a chance to back up all of the data.
Thanks again fellas
