External SD Card problem after flashing to CM7 - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
i just updated the Cyanogenmod 7 on my SGS.
After the installation, i wanted to play some music from my external sd card,
but the card was not available.
How can i mount the external sd card?
I tried to mount it via recovery mod, but it didnt work.
What else can i do, to see and use the things on the sd card?

Hopefully you noted that the external sd card is found under /emmc.
You have to configure your music app and point it to the correct path.
Good luck.

Ok i found it.
But when i want to update my navigon map data, the program show me a message, that the internal sd card is not available.
I avoid this situation, by copying the old map data to /external_sd instead of /emmc... But how can i handle it with new map data in future?

maybe you can use gscript for change route

[Q] How to download apk from nook web browser -> SD?

I was able to get Verygreen's CM7 installation on a 1gb SD card working from SD boot. However, I'm now trying to install some APK via the web, but it complains "No SD Card" available. When I try to goto Storage Settings > Mount SD Card, I get an error saying SD card is damaged (weird since I havn't done anything w/but install CM7). Total internal storage reported is 525MB, I assume the remainder are in a secondary partition for data..
Any insight how I can get the SD card working?
BUMP? Is my only alternative to install to internal memory in order to use the SD card :??
Hi, I am not sure if this is the answer, but I looked into Verygreen's original thread:
"up to 1G cards gets: system of ~300M and data of the rest of space. No FAT partition"
Possibly that's the issue. I have a 8G card and been running CM7 off of it. Yesterday I installed the UMS utility apk from this forum by using Opera, downloading it to a folder, and then simply tapping it in a file manager.

Downloads not saving to SD card..

everytime i download a file or anything from the web, instead of creating a download folder in the root of the SD card, it created one under the Internal Storage....how can i make the SD card to be my Default storage?
SDcard is internal, SDcard-ext is the external card. Haven't seen anyway to default downloads to the external card.
there has to be a way to make the Micro SD card to be the default for downloads and what not. All my other phones have created subfolders under the MicroSD card.
I do not want to use my internal 8gb to save PDF files when i download them from the internet. I want to use my 32GB MicroSD card like it does on other phones...
This has been a NIGHTMARE. I just realized sdcard is internal and sdcard-ext is my actual SD Card. I just assumed sdcard was my flash memory card as this was the case with my Droid X. I changed ES File to the ext location as my default, and my browser's DL section to the ext location as well as Titanium backup. I can't figure out how to save my E-Mail attachments to the ext directory though and I have to continually move them manually, not to mention every app is using the sdcard directory (internal memory) and thinking it is my actual Micro SDHC card. This is a NIGHTMARE and I have read it is not a Motorola problem as new Samsung and HTC phones have the same problem, it is an Android problem. Why the heck would Google change the naming scheme of the SD Card when it worked fine before? Anyway if ANYONE has any solutions suggestions, I would really appreciate it. Thanks
I totally agree. There had to be a way to make all downloads, etc save to sd c
ard-ext.
It's probably going to take a custom Rom to fix.

[Solved]CM10 SD card confusion

I have just installed the official CM10 nightly from http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=p990
First of all used this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975274
Took me a while to find the external sd card, it is listed as storage/sdcard1 but I can't access any internal sd card, I assumed it would be listed as storage/sdcard0 but clicking that just gives me an empty folder.
When I attach the phone to the PC only the external sd card shows up. CWM-recovery can't mount the sd card either (I have tried with CWM6 and CWM5).
I tried mounting the sd card from "settings-device-storage" and it starts to do it and then stops.
I could maybe live with this but I use Sygic for a satnav and that is telling me there is no sd card present, so I can't use it.
edit
it's ok now http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34086129&postcount=30

[Q] Make the SD the "default" memory

Hi, I have a Moto G 2014 with Stock 5.0.2 rooted, and I bought a 32GB SD Card a few days ago. The thing is that everything is still going to the internal memory, instead of the SD (photos, downloads, etc.), so I want to know if it's a way to make everything write on the SD card without messing up the phone (I heard I can mount SD in /sdcard changing init.rc but I don't want to do that). I also want to move my WhatsApp chats to the SD too, hehehehe (WhatsApp data is in the internal :'c)
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
For the photos and videos part, you can select from the camera application if you want to store them in the internal memory or on the SD card. For applications I think they are installed in the internal memory by default but you can move them after installation on the SD card by going to settings -> apps -> touch app -> move to SD card. To change the default installation location you need the android SDK installed on your PC and adb and then to edit a file. But I do not recommend this since the SD card is not accessible while the phone is connected to the PC. This will make applications that always run to work improperly(widgets, Facebook, etc. might generate a lot of errors because of it).
I think it's a Xposed module for that.

if you're rooted then try link2sd from play store. you need to have an ext partition on your sd card for this to work.
if you are not rooted then you will have to manually create symlinks to the files on the sd card.

Better try Link2SD. The procedure to turn your external SD to internal storage causes a lot of trouble in most cases.
There are also scripts that link the possible apps and libraries automatically to the SD card when installing them.

Weird SD Card Name on MM(6.0.1)

Hi,
My phone is installed by a pre-rooted MM rom and currently it's working welll without any problem.
But I found out one issue for sd card name.
internal memory name is under 'sdcard'.
sd memory(External) name is under 'storage/9016-4EF8'.
I think some app's data is not moved to sd card(External) due to that sd memory name.
For example, I installed "Day" app and data is saved both 'Internal' and 'Ext' in Link2SD app and App2SD app.
I checked file location for the app using 'Link2SD' but app's file location is still in the Internal.
Internal - Data(Data in Link2Sd) : /data/user/0/com.osmino.day
External - Data on SD Card(Data(Ext.) in Link2Sd) : /data/media/0/Android/data/com.osmino.day (Why internal???)
So I could not move data to Data(Ext.) because it's already recognized Data(Ext.) to extern SD card.
I think External SD Card file location would be like this "/storage/9016-4EF8/data/media/0/Android/data/com.osmino.day".
How can I change sd card and internal name or move to external sd card to move to external SD Card?
Do you have any idea?
Thank you.

There are several paths to the external SD card with MM
/storage/exfat_uuid
is probably the shortest.
Download a copy of root explorer and familiarise yourself with the new MM file structure, it's not complicated, it just has new names from LL.
Using apps to move other apps onto the SD card doesn't sound like a recipe for success.
Let the Sony app manager do it.
thanks for reply.
then how can i move data to real external sd?
my storage is not enough so i need moving.
i think some app try to install data in external sd. I think many apps try to find sdcard named. currently sd card is internal memory. and exact sd card name is storage/9016-4ef8. i think that's why my internal memory is not enough.

Take the SD card out, save the data on it, then format it
When you put it back in your phone and it asks you what to do with the SD card, DO NOT format as internal storage. This feature doesn't really work, or if you do get it to work. then it's really buggy and apps can't use it.
Once you have the SD card working, just use settings/apps/*your app* In the first bar down it will say where the app is stored and if you click on it, it will give you the option to move it.
