[Q] Questions re: BuildOS, WM6.5 stock files etc,... - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi!!
*i've spent hours browsing the web and xda searching for answers*
okay, here's the story, I used to have a HTC Titan / 6800 a couple of years ago. When i had it i learned all about flashing etc. Made a few OS's even posted one on here and amassed a 15gb collection of all things PPC ;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=650368
I sold that pocket PC. bad decision as i really liked messing around with them. So here i am a few years later, i've bought myself a Tytn II /Kaiser.
Before when i made the OS for the other one i used BuildOS from PPCKitchen
I used the kitchen files included after updating, also the NZ carrier that was available in PPCK and i had a nifty file repository i found which got updated with the very latest Windows Mobile builds and i would just import those files into PPCK (If PPCK didn't have that build).
Alas,... I can't find PPCKitchen anymore... from what i read they were updating their servers a few years ago.. but am not sure if they'll be back..
*If you can let me know whether they're still around that would be great, i keep getting DNS error when going to their page*
So far i've SPL unlocked the TYTN II using Hardspl.
I've also downloaded another cooking app called OS Kitchen Zero - Nice appy.
But i have no idea where to find the windows files to import into it. I don't want to edit my original windows mobile 6.1 on it, I'd rather install a fresh copy of windows mobile 6.5 .
And i don't want to edit someone elses rom, Just pretty much start off how i did before with a blank slate (fresh WM6.5 files - god i cant even remember the file extension) so to speak - this way any bugs i know are a result of me.
I'm not sure what will happen to my original carrier with this program also as i'd still like it to work with the New Zealand networks.
Anywayyy.. to SUM it up;
If you can help with the following questions i'd be very grateful;
1. Where's PPCKitchen / BuildOS gone? will they be back? Is there any place i can download the app in the meantime?
2. Where can i find Stock Titan windows mobile 6.5 Kitchen files? (The same that were needed for buildos - that it got from the updater)
3. Radio is not the same as carrier right ?.. or is it? I vaguely remember them being separate... Should i just flash a NZ radio to the device .. or do i need to choose NZ as the carrier also?
4. Is there a program like PPCkitchen that is inclusive of the WM builds and carriers avail?
5. CID/SIM unlock - do i need it? as i've already SPL unlocked.
And anything else that you think i might need help with.
Thanks, I appreciate it.
Reaper

UPDATE : Amongst my PPC files i found the BuildOS Installer. Unfortunately without a server to contact there are no builds or app packages so cannot build a rom. I'm not fussed about the packages at present just need some build files if anyone knows where to get them. Thanks

I think, you need to look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=517957

Thanks!
All of the links were broken on the main page, but managed to do a nifty google search and found Joshs file stash at - http://dl.ardiansyah.web.id/pub/index.php?dir=HTC/Kaiser/ROM/Joshroms/kitchen/
Tried integrating files into PPCKitchen but the build wasn't coming up.
Flashed to WM6.5 21820 from there, All working fine, sim included.
I read a lot of that post too, good info, am going to start cooking without PPCKitchen now. Seems like a lot more things i can play around with.
Cheers, legendary.

ROM Kitchens

Are there any ROM Kitchens for the SX66 like the old LumpiStefan's kitchen?
His kitchen lets you pick and choose from a list the ROM's and programs to install, then it creates a flashable .exe file? That was the greatest site for the XDAI. Here is the link for reference:
http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/
Most of what you are looking for is on wiki.
The new tool that will let you create a nbf out of cabs to flash your device with the upgrade tool is im alpha stage. It can open both Type I (oldtool) and Type II roms, extract and inport cabs out of a nbf. Also you can save all type II roms as type I. Needless to say you can perform the same funtions as the old tool as well as extract the splash screens out of the ndf.
Before anybody asks the answere is NO as it wouod gerate to many questions and hinder the programmer, he has a day job
Edit Got d and b mixed up in nbf, changed text.
MDAIIIUser
Thanks for getting back to me.
I'm not a programmer but have done rom upgrades for older devices like XDAI. I was looking for a non programmers version of a ROM kitchen like the link I posted. This one made it simple for
Do you know of one for the SX66?
Thanks, Joe
I agree its a cool site for non programers!
Wiki is all that I know of.
MDAIIIUser
Yes, as a non programmer this site was incredible for the XDAI.
Even for a programmer, imagine checking the box for each component you
wanted to load into ROM. These ROMs are very stable and packed with features.
If you or any other members want to create the ULTIMATE kitchen for the Blue Angel devices, this would be a great format.
Ayway, thanks for your posts, help and advice. It is greatly appreciated.
Building the tool is not that hard...but maintaining it...could be a day task (including helping people etc).
You need to regularly upgrade the page with the latest versions, and people always want stuff that is not on there...lots of work.
I am not sure if anyone around here has that amount of time and interest in doing so...

Rom Cooking

I'm quite the newbie when it comes to ROM cooking, quite lucky to have a P4350 so I can mess around a bit w/o worrying about bricking the phone. I was able to flash the t-mobile dump using this method:
xander803 said:
I'll try to detail out exactly what I did. The rom kitchen was used for every single step. The directions provided with the program are not comprehensive but done well enough that you can figure most of it out.
1). Use the extract tool and choose "dump from bin" and dump the wing os bin posted on the first page. This dumped the contents to a directory in xdump.
2). After this "pkgtool" will run to separate out the sys and oem folders.
3). Move the contents of "xdump" (which should be the sys and oem folders and maybe a couple other files) into the "kitchen" folder.
4). Place the XIP folder and Aserg's os.nb, both of which are found in this thread, into the "ROM" folder. Aserg's os.nb will have to be renamed, check for details in the rom kitchen help file.
5). This is the step where cooks can delete/add stuff but I wouldn't recommend it your first time through.
6). Run "Build" and it should automatically create your new os.nb. We don't need to do any of the conversion afterwards because we can just put this os.nb in place of Aserg's os.nb and use his method to flash.
Please read through the rom kitchen's help manual as well as Aserg's help file for flashing the herald and make sure you understand exactly what you have to do. If you don't have an unbranded Herald it may be difficult to recover from a bricked device. I bricked my device several times before getting it but luckily I have an unbranded Herald so I could just flash an official WM5 WWE back on. Lastly, do this at your own risk, this worked for me but may not work for others.

What I wanted to know is what I would have to do to switch the T-Mobile rom with the PdaViet rom in this process of cooking. I have tried various methods, but have had no luck right now. The ROM image I create hangs at the initial bootscreen.
Also on another note, not sure why this is but when I extract the PdaViet rom and then compile it back together using the Pro Kitchen, the new image is always a bit smaller (like I missed something.)
Question: How did you CID unlock your device?
I didn't have to CID Unlock to upgrade.
Well I found out that its normal for the rom size to shrink using the Core Pro Kitchen, this is because of Tadzio's program. What I can't seem to figure out is why I can't flash the new build of the PdaViet rom without it freezing at the first splash screen. At first I thought it was the missing .rgu files found by , but I have found out that those were taken out for a reason, so that cancels out one potential problem.
We just have to wait a little more. Anichillus is trying to creat the Kitchen for the herald as he promised it. But now after exams he is in holiday. But after that he will present a new kitchen. Just wait a little.
And yes - his kitchen compresses the files more than other.
Keep on working and cooking. The Heraldforum needs it really...
I never liked PDAViet roms - so let´s creat own ones...
Thanks
Thanks for the update, and only reason I wanted to use the PdaViet rom is cuz it has the newest build. Guess I'll just work with k0ster's release.
Yeah man, i'll beta test any roms you create, I just paid to have my Wing CID Unlocked and i'm trying out PDAVIET's rom's now.

Be careful. When it get bricked whiel falshing there is NO chance to unbrick with Herlad RUU!!!

I thought you couldn't CID unlock the Wing.
^^imei-check. It worked so far. No other wing user has tried, I don't believe, i'm the first guinea pig.
So I just started to cook ROMs for the herald and I have to say it is a long and enduring process, but simple enough that anyone who wants to learn is able to do so.
For anyone else who is interested I am using the Core Pro Kitchen to build the roms, using this rom as my base (very clean-also good rom to load to your phone directly. Doesnt have missing files unlike PdaViet rom when running PkgTool.)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319142
I also found a very useful selection of OEM cab packages that work with the herald for the most part. If they dont a simple edit will do the trick.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319970&highlight=rom+kitchen+guide
Even a newb can cook up a rom using this method so there ain't no excuses.\
Cheers
So by all means all P4350 users start experimenting and cooking up ROMS so that Terra and Wing users have something to look forward to when they have an RUU.
Which version of Core Pro Kitchen are you using? The one for Hermes?

anichillus told me that the artemis version should work.
BUT write an pm to him and he will give you a link to his "Hyper Core Kitchen" the complete new one!!!!!!!!!
Give it a try
im going to try this out again and see if I can cook something up. I tried and actually created a rom be4 but was too scared to try it out. ill see if I can have a release by the end of the week but my computers been acting up. imma try to get the touchFLO working also.
neptune, post your cooked rom up or post some pics. did u do a traditional rom or one with the Touch home plugin and stuff?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=323166
Would you be able to add that into your rom? It's a button free activation of the 3D Cube!
i'm currently cooking a rom using the Artemis kitchen, i'll post up how it goes, main issue for me is trying to make sure i'm putting packages in the right folder. I downloaded a .rar full of pre-mad packages so all I gotta do is drag and drop. i'm using k0ster's rom as a base but would love to use the official wm6 that was just released as a base as its newer and cleaner i'm guessing. we'll see, maybe we'll see some cooked roms from me soon!

It should be better to extract the REAL WM6 rom with nbhextract and then start cooking the rom with the kitchen for Artemis (anichillus Core Kitchen??).
ANd be sure - in about one week there will be a new kitchen from him
But please use the real OS. Not a ported one!!
^Alright, i'll try that tonight. What is the major files that people remove? (Transcriber, etc.)

Help requested off smart people

Hello,
I have an Alpine just bought from ebay, was damaged bought lcd now fixed. I have o2 latest rom.
I would like to put on pointui. It says i need to upgrade to windows mobile 5 then overwrite files with windows mobile 2003.
I know nothing of roms and am unable to locate the simple answers i require.
I assume i only need
WINDOWS MOBILE 5
WINDOWS MOBILE 2003
POINTUI downloaded
Im confused because of all the talk about radio this and camera that patches and fixes. How do i get these files onto the PDA - im assuming its from bootloader or is it active sync.
Please help - id love to fall in love with my little device
Kind Regards
Peter
Help
I have simply downloaded the pointui stuff and installed on the phone. However some elements dont work. I am unabel to find ANY download location for the cab files. Unable to get rid of any of the o2 crap. NO download for pugs stuff works nor is it present int he upload section of the ftp site.
Thanks in advance
Can't help with PointUI but to get rid of the O2 stuff you need to do a hard reset, which will wipe everything and then when you get the message "Customisation in 3 secs" or something like that do a soft reset.
Thanks for your help
Thanks for that help, could you tell me if there is a way to get rid of the 02 boot up screen please. Also does anyone have a copy of pugs stripped roms with improved radio?
I also need the cab files from windows mobile 5
any help is much appreciated
Kind Regards
Peter
FORGET WM5 Files the XDA IIi canot be upgraded to it you will BUGGER your PDA
I did say smart people didnt I
Its just the cab files most are overwritten. NOT WIN MOBILE 5 that doesnt work on this phone. The PointUi interface works perfectly with this phone to make it look like an iphone it requires some elements of shared files associated with wm5 thats all- any other sensible suggestions are welcomed.
Peter
Thinking about it you need the WM5 install for PointUI and then the WM2003 bits to overwrite them. There is nothing WM5 related at OS level. Think I did it at some point in the past.
Link to the PointUI install instructions
Thanks Dee Dee Still Need some help
Does anyone have the stripped PUGS roms. I need a better radio and more stable form. Its missing from the ftp.
Regards
Peter

Latest official AT&T ROM

Anybody extracted all the cabs already?
Especially interested in the Manila version and all the AT&T add-ons.
Thx
wait. you actually want the att bloatware?
also, the tf3d stuff is only slightly optimized, if you're running any of the manilas out there that are updated recently, it should perform better.. especially if you actually use wm6.5
Yes, the bloatware incl. Manila to rewrite/update my Fuze setup guide.
I admit that I'm a little bit reluctant to flash my phoen back to the latest ATT since I kinda depend on it for the next two weeks and cannot run the risk to wreck it at this time.
i c... I can provide you the set up file, but I have no knowledge of how to extract it. If you are interested, send me a PM and i'll see if i can upload the link for you.
EDIT: the official update is actually really good. especially the radio. my gps fix is very very fast, and my battery life is great.. even with push..
I can download the EXE from HTC/AT&T myself but would need to install to copy all cab files under the Windows directory.
If anybody has all the cabs which reside after an install (better a de-böoated install) would be great.
The success with the GPS and good lock is simply related to the Radio bundled with the new ROM which is/was available at XDA for some time. Sure, for a branded ROM it was finally time to fix these issues.
yeah, i did mention that the radio was why the gps is so much better. I'm just a sucker for going around flashing new radios... It got to be so much of a hassle keeping track of them that I gave up..
anyways, sorry I can't help you there in terms of the cabs since I'm very uncomfortable with doing stuff like that since I'm paranoid about my phone numbers and notes tagging along..
but I can say with confidence that the new update is really good and you should not be worried about flashing the new rom at all. The only thing is that I see you are using energyrom so i understand that you don't want to flash back and forth.
Can you take a look in your Windows dir and name me the CAB files there?
Most common none is deleted after install so that list could be helpful already.
NRG ROM ... well ... it ROCKS.
I'm not such a fan of 6.5 yet thus running the older NRG 2.0 without ANY problems.
sure! that I CAN do.. here's the list (btw, my rom is unbloated so i might have all of the cabs..)

that's about all I see.. I might have some typos in the numbers but hopefully they should be all correct. Good luck and if you need anything else, just holler.
Cool mate! ... and this is from the latest AT&T ROM upgrade?
Would you mind to copy all the cabs to your PC and zip them in one humongous file? Check PM
i can do that provided that it isn't locked in by the OS. I'll do it later when I come back.
Thanks, check your PM (Private Messages).
Sorry to interrupt, but here you go:
http://rapidshare.com/files/249085596/CABs_from_New_AT_T_ROM.zip
Manila is not installed from CAB, so I created a CAB for it.
Thanks NATF.
Just one Q, what does then the PT_MANILA.CAB do?
Chefs like you never disturb!

Actually, you don't need that CAB. It is installed during Initial Configuration, and it adds the registry entries that start TF3D on boot. However, I added the required entries to my TF3D CAB.
Hey NATF....what happened to the OzIM cab? I was curious about this thread because I wanted to know if there were a new version of the cab for the instant messaging package as well....or did you just leave it out because the version didn't change in the new ROM perhaps?

[Q] Need help in finding the right Kitchen and tools to cook

Hello,
Although I had hd2(t-mobile) for a while, did not have time to play around and lived on first shipped rom! Now that I have upgraded to current version by t-mobile, I have found few issues and want to cook my own version.
Issues:
FlashLight lost its brightness in all three modes.
No google maps 4.1
Remove all t-mobile crap
Audiobooster is not effective as the previous one
These are just to name a few.
Thus far I did not install any SPL and dont know which one to and confused on all of the information. I have cooked before therefore confident in the process and just need some help with tools. Which kitchen is best?
Finally, which SPL should I install and where do I find HTC updated apps and registry tweaks?
Many thanks inadvance for all the help.
Update:
I have installed HSPL now.
Any info on the Kitchen guys?
I just want to take the first shipped rom and copy some of the applications and use them in the current OEM rom and cook.
