[Q] development stalled? - Motorola Droid Bionic

It looked like devs were jumping on the Bionic at first, but now it seems there is nobody working on new rom development.
I have tried unleashed and it is nice, but was really looking forward to CM7.
Goto IRC, and the channels for Bionic are DEAD.
Anyone have any news of any new rom dev going on at all for the Bionic?

Go to AndIRC #bionic
And Team Liberty has been working hard on our ROM... Although its still a week or two out... I do release test build on IRC though

Its not always dead in there. But I have to agree its not hopping like the Charge channel.
I think the locked bootloader and lte radios have a big part in things being slow. I'm willing to bet it will pick up soon enough
Edit.. and note my above statement is for freenode #bionic. I've yet to be to AndIrc.... headed there now

Thanks kejar, I was downloading your latest 39 build and you must have cancelled the page when my download was about finished, because it said complete on my end. I formatted everything on my Bionic and tried to install the 39 zip for it to only tell me it was a bad zip.
No biggie, I made a nandroid

I'd say the biggest problem is this: devs don't get paid for this and the bionic is $600 off contract. Alot of them have families and jobs/careers outside this - actually I would say most do.
My best advice? If you like a dev and want to see him give the bionic love, reach out to him. Start a donate thread.
For the time being, Unl3ash3d is doing me good. Looking forward to Liberty and CM7.

^^^That right there hits it on the spot... This is a free service and most people don't contribute to the devs so it takes more time for things to come around... But sometimes this is the best way because it produces the best results

I agree, I have donated to most of the devs. I had thought everyone donated to one of the cm7 devs.
I don't ask for anything for free, that's not my point.......
My point is, dev has stalled on Bionic.

Bionic has CWM now

Bootstrap is up and running thanks to CVPCS.
Our phones are almsot identical, so I don't know if someone wanted to take the plunge since you have recovery now too.
Just wanted to give the Droid 3 owners a heads up.

I cannot stress enough that THIS IS FOR BIONIC ONLY. You should not attempt this for use with other devices such as the Droid 3 except at your own risk. The D3 specifically has differences that will cause your internal storage to wipe if you attempt to use this bootstrap on it.

I'm brave, but not that brave.
Yeah, its a use at your own risk kind of thing, obviously.
Maybe someone can get CVPCS to take a look at the D3, the work is mostly done with the bionic.
DO NOT USE THE BIONIC BOOTSTRAP. He posted on his blog this same warning.
I REPEAT: DO NOT USE BIONIC BOOTSTRAP.
It fries your internal memory apparently. Wait for the D3 version, should be out today or tomorrow.

Not sure what's wrong with a dev-related topic being posted in the dev section, but in my opinion, the real bummer is that CVPCS is developing for the Bionic instead of the D3 (like I hoped). The Bionic has been out for about a week and a half, and already has a pending CM7 mod waiting in the wings. Hopefully we can get some work going on the D3…

BTW guys, there is work being done with the D3 don't worry. We already have a semi working CWM based recovery in the beta stage atm. there are a few dedicated devs working on the D3.
Also keep in mind its only going faster for the bionic devs because our devs have been working so hard on things like 2init and root, granted it does seem we were skipped over by the majority of devs.

I am kind of surprised that no sticky post has been made here stating similar rules.

[CM7] on Droid Bionic with dual boot!

This is an amazing hack by Hashcode! He built a hack to load CM7 on the Droid 3 that will also work on the Droid Bionic! I tested it on the Droid Bionic today and it worked! (ya I am crazy)
Now you need to note that this is in the begining stages, but with us Devs teaming up, this can be great!
Thanks to Hashcode and of course Cyanogenmod team!

What is performance like (for both this current working version and the D3)?
What's currently broken in this one?
Just curious, I know this isn't a stable release. More wondering into the generals about it.
This is the excitement I've needed lately. I've been reading the hype on the galaxy nexus and razr which have been eclipsing our new bionics. I know that's just how it seems to me, in reality its the bootloader that its slowing the development and further excitement. Cyanogen was stellar on my OG Droid. Koush rules!

I'm greatly appreciative of your comments mistawolfe. I was a victim of TDB with the X2 promises. After two months of waiting and very little progress on the X2 anywhere else, I gave up and threw in the towel. That was my lesson -- money wasted. I now own a Bionic and I can't be happier. And now, when I donate, it's to sites like MDW, Rootzwiki, DL and here. At least that way, I have a reasonable expectation that my money is going to good uses. I live for forums like these and I will do all that I can to help them thrive. I was just very touched and happy to hear that someone else identified with my pain. Thanks again.

I was already gone from my x2 when I stumbled across the Rootz thread. It's funny, Butch starts out all nice and open to the other members, then as soon as he gets the phone he changes tone. I'm in sales, so we call that the old "bait and switch" - By the end of it he was just downright nasty - probably crushed many people. I sat and read the whole thread one day and was just disgusted.
I'm not saying he should have given them a blow by blow on a daily basis, but if you read the thread from start to finish you'll see what I'm talking about. Absolutely no respect for that guy - ZILCH.

moto also released the D3's source to sourceforge today. wouldn't that include the audio bits?
I am of course looking at the source for ICS as we speak..
Possibly even testing how the source compiles.
But, I don't want to send the wrong message. I don't think ICS will be usable in any real way for the D3 till I either get source built up for the omap audio stuff (or a new kernel)
I'm just toying around with it, and getting use to the new layers.
@sarreq: I don't see any new source on Sourceforge for the moment:

I've been following Hascode's CM7 since I got my D3. He's been great and the support and discussion on it is great. Haven't read too much on the release of CM9 but seems like ICS is the main feature it needs before its release. I'm excited to try more ROMS on the D3, great phone!

Yes, alpha, buggy, useless roms.
Look, it will take us a while to get it running but we will have it. Just relax.
I'd like to repeat: I'm not ignoring ICS
I'm actively working on it in my spare time between: D3 CM7 updates, Safestrap updates, and helping with the CM7 for Bionic.
Add to that: I'm also watching CM9 develop and doing testing there as well (I have 3 repo's going at the moment).
AndroidSims has is correct tho: It will be a toy to play with for the moment, even if I get it booting to the OS. No audio, no phone.
IMHO, CM9 w/ our current kernel will get us a lot further due to the compatibility issues. But, obviously CM9 will take a while.

Liberty roms

You know.. It's great that these devs even bothered making us some roms for our phone but I find it a bit cowardly that they can't even get on their own thread and be honest with us that they left. I donated to these guys for their contribution but honestly at this point, without any responses or even posting the newest version 901 on their thread.. I wouldn't have.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
Not to defend them, cause i have done the same as you, but they have always started that they will not make roms for unofficial releases, which is what .901 is at this point.

893 was official and they didn't release anything for that. I loved liberty for the Droid X, and liberty for the bionic is good but not as great as their X version or eclipse.
Team Liberty started to work on the nexus before the 893 came out.. Once they finish there, they are planning on coming back to build another ROM for the Bionic. Hopefully another true OTA comes out before they start developing on the 893 model.

[DEV] LTE for AOSP ROMs (ICS) and other stuffs

Hello,
Some of you may know me and some not. But, my name is Hashcode and I'm the lead (and only dev) for the Droid 3.
I have always been involved with Bionic development somewhat, but never directly due to my lack of a device.
That has changed. I was offered a dev Bionic at a good price by an XDA user, and it arrived today.
I have several goals in mind for it:
- My first project is to bring up LTE in AOSP ROMs such as ICS and CM7. I can say (and many of you know) that this is not an easy task. I will be re-coding the entire LTE framework that Motorola put into stock Moto Blur (Gingerbread) so that it works with the RIL libraries that we currently have for Bionic.
This may take a few weeks to iron out and debug, but I think it will be well worth the effort as it pushes the Bionic into the next big era of Android. A phone w/o LTE data is mainly just for looks, and I'm sure it's been frustrating as hell for the entire community to watch the world go by.
- Full support and testing of Safestrap for the Bionic. I hear that webtop doesn't work like it should, and perhaps that there is a ROM or 2 that give problems? Let me know.
- I'll be working with dhacker29 to help finish ICS for the Bionic. A lot of my code is already in the build, and now I can port over the in-progress camera code as well.
I will be posting status updates here and RootzWiki as well as on my blog:
http://www.hash-of-codes.blogspot.com
Feel free to follow me on twitter: hashcode0f
