Like I said iPhone 5 is repackaged iPhone 4 - Off-topic

How many people disappointed with the new iPhone? Are people actually going to buy a repackaged iPhone 4? Yes, because there are always sheep.
Apple is really great at repackaging their products, iPhone 3g > iphone 3gs.
I would stick with an iPhone 4 if.I already have it. Only thing great about this whole ordeal is that the previous versions are way cheap but a bit outdated.

Can i just use this thread to get a bit of fanboism out.
They changed the camera and all hell will break lose on release day. And the price.. good god. For me in the UK i won't get use of 4G until 2013, not that i was ever going to buy this piece of junk. Makes me love my Desire HD even more.

Ok back to normal.

What happened with all the rumors of larger screen, teardrop design, supposedly thinner? Maybe in the works for next year.
If people actually line up for this and wait for hours it has to be the end of our civilization as we now it.

That was an Epic FAIL for apple. And when I say Epic, I mean Epic Touch already has all those features hardware wise! Nothing new frrom Apple but a repackaged iPhone 4 with the same hardware already found in other phones. In fact, they are already behind with the Nexus Prime rumored to have the new Exynos 1.5Ghz Dual Core in it, so by the time the iPhone 5 comes out, they will already be behind again.
Copying BBM, Android Notifications, Google's cloud, 1080P video recording, and hardware found in other phones already, I was totally disappointed.
Instead of being the innovators, it looks like Apple is now playing catch up.

I have an iPhone 4 and knew over a month ago that the new iPhone would be very much the same as the current one but with upgraded specs and internal hardware.
Nevertheless, I'm a bit glad because I won't feel compelled to exchange my iPhone 4 for the 4S. I will, however, enjoy using iOS5 on my iPhone 4 on Oct 12.

the major difference is just a faster CPU
and now it can do both CDMA + GSM in one phone
everything else is not even worth mentioning as they are really seasoning on top of the meat

their marketing team is pretty good at what they do, i'm assuming the 5 will be along these new specs but with LTE chips, NFC and maybe a little something else?...
christmas time?

Here is what the 4S provides:
http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/04/iphone-4s-vs-iphone-4-the-tale-of-the-tape/

Siri is really cool, and the upgraded CPU and GPU is nice too, but it looks like i'm going to stick with Android and buy the Galaxy Humongous aka the Galaxy Note.

Wow! I didn't realize how bad off MS stock is. MS stock
Google looks to be the highest earner. Google stock

Goes some way to explain why Apple feel so threatened by the other phpne manufacturers, Apple didn't have anything in this year's pipeline to compete.

Wow, I was waiting to see what Apples response to the Galaxy S2 would be and they release an iphone 4 with a different processor. I wonder how dumbfounded Samsung and Google and HTC are. The Christmas season is just around the corner and Apple is still trying to milk a phone a year and a half old. I swear, if they get record sales I'm going to lose all faith in humanity.

So I was perusing through ebay and I came across this interesting phone. There's something about this phone that makes me think of another one. Hmm... Oh yea, it's a flippin iPhone 4 nock off. I'm tempted to pick it up just see if it's even possible to root.
If anyone is curious, check out this youtube vid, and you can find them on eBay for about $160.

lol. still slikk, looked kinda fun. especially because i work at at&t, and my boss would flip if i was carrying a phone that looked just like the beloved iphone 4 but it was droid powered. still, do you think i could find any dev support on it?
Er, as Slikk says, this is nothing new. There have been iPhone knock-offs for *years* and there are *many* (Engadget has plenty of articles about them too).
If you're surprised about this, you'll probably be surprised to know they're powered by numerous OSes, including Windows Mobile, Android, Symbian, Java-based OS, and etc. Frankly, I highly doubt you'll be able to find dev support for most of them as they're just generic, low quality knock-offs that doesn't find too much support among most people.
Actually, the Vibrant is kind of an iPhone knock-off.
CPU: 416MHZ
2.0 Mega Pixel camera
256MB RAM
Project? I'm thinking, no.

I don't think so, this whole defect thing definitely left a stain on the Nexus brand.
When you think Nexus, you think perfect.

Maybe they'll change up the way they release a new product through the Google Play store. The whole bit with people being able to get them through retail channels faster than the preorders was a disaster. I hope they stay with Asus, if they can learn from their mistakes. I'm sure it's a pretty steep learning curve for the manufacturing and QC guys for any new product line.
Yes. I think most of ASUS problems are with it's initial batch of tablets. After about a month things seem to smooth out. So I'll probably do my best to hold out a month next time. But that's so hard for me because I'm impatient too.

I agree with the time frame being ridiculous, but I don't know about most devices being perfect considering how many people are going through multiple replacements with defects. It'd be different if the first replacements everyone got were perfect, but I see a lot of people settling on units with relatively minor defects because they fear that their 4th replacement will be worse than their 3rd. I love my Nexus 7, but even I'm settling on the minor defects that it has (minor screen separation and multitouch issue) because I'm afraid that a replacement would be much worse.
No matter which OEM Google uses in the future, there will always be unhappy people. My device is rock solid and defect free.

You know, I really can't say. We know of EVERY little problem the N7 has because we come to this forum. But I think Google has had and expects stuff like this, with any company.
I've had 2 Asus Android tablets, and both have problems. The N7 has very slight screen lift ( no big deal to me) and that's it. My Transformer Prime had shot GPS, crappy WiFi, and buggy software....BUT, I love what they do. The Transformer line is one of a kind beast, and the N7 is even better. First 10" Tegra 3 tablet with keyboard dock style, First 7" Tegra 3 tablet with JB...for $199 to top it off So I think I am willing to take chances to stay on the newest/ hottest gear...and Asus has that gear. So I'd say Google should give Asus another shot if they can fill their needs.
To be fair, screen Flickr is because of the tegra 3 (it is an issue with teg3 HTC ONE X's; screen color problems = defects from the screen manufacturers (LG, SHARP, SONY,not Asus)... Same issues in OneX/XL/S's with varying hue and color temp.
Screen edge coming up or slightly moving.... Because it's not glued in, making it easier to service... Pop off the backing and tighten the damn screws.
Some people have the slightest issues and return items blowing the issue excessively out of proportion... Some of these people are also the most vocal on forums.
Ultimately the returns/exchanges are less than 1% of total units sold and happens to every device. Let's remember when the Xoom first came out... Anyone? Lol

Ding ding ding.
And even for those with defects, they aren't exploding, they aren't catching on fire. They just didn't use enough glue on one single side. Not a big deal.
As a rather funny note, all the ASUS preorder hate seems irrelevant in Germany where the device isn't even available yet at all.
Sometimes, Google is way too USA.

When the Galaxy Nexus was released when it connected to 2G networks the volume would automatically decrease, do you think Google have scratched Samsung off their list too?
Why not? Asus are a wonderful manufacturer.
My Nexus 7 is perfect and my Samsung Galaxy Nexus is, too. I was worried about my products after reading these forums and I was constantly having to check for defects just to make myself feel better and then I realised how silly that is. Headaches over nothing, because a small minority are incredibly vocal!
I am always behind Asus after using their motherboards/monitors and enjoying my previous TF101 tablet.

4 months to production is unheard of in this market. They gave us something cheap, fast, and good, so I am hoping Asus becomes the 'go to' manufacture for nexus tablet's.

How about sites that do one sided reviews.
Like cnet is starting to see the light but they used to be Apple to the core. (people who say no, they have a segment called Apple byte just about apple)
I watch their prizefights on youtube and its horrible to have three out of the four judges have iphones.
Apple used to always win but now when a finally phones like htc one and gs4 are giving them no choice but to let apple lose. But they know the new ios update is coming so it wont be for long now. Just to catch people up. Iphone 5 dominated BB z10, Htc One cleary beat iPhone 5, Galaxy S4 just barely beat Htc One(at the end they still said go out and buy htc one(because they pay apple for patents designs now)). Lets see what they do when GS4 goes against iPhone 5. Based off this Gs4 is set to win but we'll see how cnet MacGyver's this one.
Well, what else are they going to compare it to, since most people have to make 2 decisions, iPhone or Android? You compare the best Android phone to the best iPhone, this being the iPhone 5. You can certainly also compare the S4 to the HTC One, but if you leave out the iPhone, you're doing people a disservice.

New trend in mobile reviews: 'Nexus 4 was average, bare bones phone'. I disagree!

So, I was watching Pocketnow review of the Nexus 5. Video begins as the reviewer tells us that there were always cheap versions of awesome products, and that they always succeed to disappoint us. Next to the pictures of those products (PolyStation, copy of PlayStation, and other awfull stuff), we are presented with the Nexus 4, as the perfect example of cheap and bare bones products that disappointed us.
To make the situation worse, this isn't the only review that bashes the Nexus 4. Internet is full of articles that practically say: Nexus 4 was average phone, with average specs.
Average phone? Average specs? Snapdragon S4 Pro was the most powerful processor at the time of N4 release, and still is the beast. 2 gigs of RAM was double what GS3, '2012 flagship', had. It had one of the sharpest screens at the time, matching IPhone 5 320 ppi. It had latest version of stock, vanilla android, support for wireless charging, great looks, nice build quality, premium feel. It was the fastest phone out there, and still handles everything you throw at it. It had, and still has the best development support, best, bug free roms and best developers. What was average in this?
It didn't have best camera out there. And it didn't come with LTE. But it's price was 350$ unlocked.
Nexus 4 was, and still is, one great phone. And sad thing is, people don't get it. Worse thing is, reviewers don't get it. As a matter of fact, maybe they do, but they are to spoilt with 600$+ flagships.
Saddest thing, Nexus 4 was equally good as 2012 flagships. It had something GS3 didn't, it didn't have something GS3 had. This isn't compromise, it's different ideology.
And now, Nexus 5 is equally good as 2013 flagships. It has something GS4 doesn't, it doesn't have something GS4 does.
By the time Nexus 6 arrives, N5 will be remembered just like N4 is now, 'bare bones, average device, full of compromises'.
What do you think?

Nexus 4 is still one of the best phones out now because of all the developers. Reviewers who say N4 is average are retarded imo.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
The problem with lot's of reviews that are about products only focus on what you get, not on how much you have to pay to get it. This especially happens in the world of smartphones. This is why they give such a low score to the Nexus 4, like, how much do you care about a camera in a phone? IMO that's a good point to shave of some money from the price. It's nice to have one, but I personally do not care if it is amazing or just mediocore.
if you know its a good phone why you bother with shi-t like this? baffles me, just enjoy what you got and don't worry about what others think.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Many of them think phone's quality = camera quality. Ignore them. Nexus 4 has quite a few compromises in favour of price and in favour of not beating LG Optimus G (LG aren't retarded, it's obvious they wouldn't make an equal or better phone for a cheaper price), BUT it sets aside all the unnecessary gimmicks and focuses on raw power. It's not a false policy, it's just a different ideology. In fact the biggest change Nexus 4 brought to the market is that you could get a top class smartphone for a decent price. And they're continuing this policy with the Nexus 5. This cannot be underestimated. By this logic of completely neglecting the price they could review a low cost budget phone and call it ****. Not a wrong statement to make, but not a fair one either. In a consumer economy price is and always will be relevant and needs to be taken into account.
Completely agree. It's interesting how some tech blogs forget what was said in their own Nexus 4 reviews! Even the camera used to be praised when it was released.

My opinion is that the Nexus 4 has always been slightly under the top of the line, especially in battery and camera. Battery and LTE are as good if not better then many other flagships due to the great developer support. I'm pretty sure a N4 with cm10.2 and Franco performs better than many phones with lesser specs
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
sooo!
I don't care what the reviewers say...I love my N4 and I will keep it for a long time...
The Nexus 4 is no where near average. Matter of fact its STILL high end. Comparing spec wise there is only a few phones with higher ends specs and those happen to be 2013 phones, this is a 2012 phone and STILL competes with those flagships.
About the camera: If someone is really THAT much into photography and cameras, why rely on a phone? I enjoy my N4 camera. I don't expect a phone to take 'stunning' images. The only phone that will probably beat any camera phone is the Galaxy Zoom, and that's hideous to look at.
Compare the N4 to other phones that are still being releases with only 1 or half a gig or RAM, lower resolutions, and older android versions, in 2013........
The android OS still beats any phone. The fact that it runs bare stock android and gets updates before any other phones, alone beats all phones out there.
Who ever did that review is on crack.

Perhaps a laggy launcher, overwhelming animations, tons of unremovable bloatwares

Think big picture -- reviewers influence their audience more than you think. The readers form opinions and judge products without trying it out for themselves or doing any further research. They then spread this to their less-knowledgeable mainstream friends and family.
It's a problem and I wish reviewers would spend more time with devices before rushing to publish reviews for page views.
i saw that review too and think they just do it to get many clicks they always have to say new phones are good and old phones suck so they keep getting free review units...
ppl always criticized me for getting the n4 and saying its the best phone and yes camera was the argument and then i would say i have a canon eos 600d if i want to make pictures i use a proper camera and not a samsung galaxy iphone but those ppl dont understand because they need the best phone camera to instagram their food
and in my country lte is useless since the plan costs 3 times as much so h+ is the better choice imo

To answer the OP just watch a better reviewer like MKBHD, Amondo Ferreira and Erica Griffin.
I watch Pocket Now, but I don't take their opinions as seriously.
Anyway, I've been really enjoying the Nexus 4 with ART so no need to upgrade yet.

Interesting to compare these same reviewers opinions on the N4 to last year's when they praised it. Hypocrisy at its finest.

GSMARENA Smartphone Champions League, Matchday 2

Gsmarena is conducting a smartphone comparison war and to my surprise our Nexus 4 is compared with a Lumia 520, whats disappointing is that our N4 is losing in terms votes to lumia,Come on people vote.I really dont want to see the nexus loose to a lumia

I'd say the n4 is better than the 1520 maybe not in hardware but the software more than makes up for it, I couldn't use Windows Phone for more than a week before scratching my eyes out

I guess there is a significant rise in stubborn people who claim that windows phones are better than android and ios at the moment(it may get better in the future but certainly not now).I got a friend who had an htc sensation and was stuck with sense and ics,the phone still lags like hell and no matter what he still thinks all android phones lags like the htc and is too stubborn to accept the fact that he choose poorly.
Nexus 4 is still a flagship phone, despite the release of Nexus 5. It's just one year old, for crying out loud. It packs better configurations and way better day-to-day performance than most of other available phones. I do not understand how it is compared against Lumia 520. Also, I noticed it is getting lower votes than the Lumia, how come?

Man I had that phone too, and without customizations it DID suck. Not everyone is savvy enough to root their phone (read: 90% of users) to make it more usable. But that phone was a POS until I rooted it. Before Jelly Bean I wouldn't have recommended an Android to anyone, let alone ICS. It was bad enough that I can't blame some people for having a tarnished image now (literally caused so much frustration).
Having said that, I'd recommend a Nexus 4 to anyone and their mother. It's user friendly and lightning fast with way more options than a Windows Phone. Although a Windows phone may still be smoother...

I have a lot of friends that think this way. Here in Brazil ppl buy those crap and old samsung phones like the S duos for the same amount of money they could buy Moto g then starts to blame android. Here on brazil ppl just dont realize there are life outside samsung world. When I got my N4 my girlfriend got OG and my best friend got S3. All 3 for the same money. No matter what I cant convince him that S3 for the same money was a poor choice. Now, after 4 months his S3 lags like hell, he is afraid to root and use lag fix. 4.3 and its trim support didnt arrive yet and he regrets every time he see me playing games or trying a new feature in android.

I guess its the same everywhere!
Even in India
They buy s3 and after it starts lagging, they say android is a laggy os!
This really pisses me off!
However it's only human psychology that if something is costly, it must be good!
Maybe that's why a company like apple makes an i5s for 150$ and sells it for 700$!
They rob people and people love it!

see the comments bro, there a lot of wp fan boys in gsmarena, always criticising android and thinks windows phone is superior to android, its quite funny actually when the try to cover up all the downsides of wp,some of them responded to " lack of apps in the windows store problem" saying we dont need any apps then why the hell do they buy a smartphone
results are out
"The Nokia Lumia 520 found itself trailing at the start, but the most popular WP handset gathered enough support in the latter stages of the game to turn it around"

here in brazil is way poor. moto g is 450$ here .
also here samsung make lots and lots of exclusive entry devices with old armv6 processor, and so ppl blame android for hte lag.
when i took my nexus 4 and compared with my friendĀ“s iphone 4 and when ppl saw that n4 was more faster. they were like "omg omg android is not lag, omg omg omg"
Wtf!! Tech writers and so called tech experts on tech sites are to blame here, they have no knowledge, use same techniques to compare, most of their views are on how a device looks, could give thousand examples of this
And once a phone is 6 months old, it becomes a dinosaur for them, they often compare it with crap.
