[Q] so now the new O2X are (more) bug-free? - LG Optimus 2x

hi O2X crew. i'm considering buying this phone but upon reading a few forums this phone is pretty unreliable to start with. i've noticed there had been a major software update by LG. so does it mean now the phone people can buy from the stores are a lot better than before?

there has been no major update. you are better off with something thats not from lg.... i would recommend a nexus, maybe wait on the new one
the hardware (at least in most cases) is not the problem, the problem is the utterly bad software and support from lg.

wow omg lol

If u haven't buy it, don't. If u bought it, go for cyanogenmod rom.

no i haven't bought it yet. isn't the v10d a big update?

no its not, though it fixes bugs present on initial release
I'd advice you to just forget o2x, and wait a while for the nexus release, you'll add a few bucks, and you'll get a rock solid phone + with awesome support, unlike the o2x(still has no official gb update)

OMG ppl...
Am I the only satisfied owner?
Dont know whats the fuzz about.
I got the 2x for 300 euros and am more than satisfied.
With Cyanogenmod its stable, super fast and good battery life.
Ok stock rom might not be the best rom out there but whatever device i would gotten, i would install cyanogenmod either way. So....
I recommend it if you are under a bit of a tight budget. If not go for SGSII

lorismarcos: when did u get your o2x?
so with the update, does the phone still reboot, freeze, bad battery life, etc etc etc?
i'm considering o2x cuz its the best phone right now for fido in which i can redeem my fido dollars on. i wish fido has a better lineup.

Repeat!! Do not buy LG phone...
Or you will join us to angry LG poor software service......

alrighty then

LG Optimus 2X!!!!! its a lost cause, just do your best to stay way from it or any other LG phone.

I concur with other people's opinions that the software part really needs improving from LGs end. However, as far as the hardware is concerned you get your bang for your buck. It plays well with other dual core phones so with a custom ROM you can really exploit the capabilities of the phone. Even on the stock ROM (Which I am using at the moment) the phone is running fine, no randon BSODs for me at the moment, and battery life pretty good, actually last a few more more than a day. So, I'd say it's a good phone but LG has reduced the quality of it by not releasing updated software for it.

when did u get yours Soul?

The problem with optimus 2x is in 3 parts
1st it was delivered with a really BAD software (random reboots etc)
2nd They promised gb update at may-june (whick never happened till today they postpone it all the time)
3rd they dont release their propriaty software so no stable aosp roms wet
2.2 IS stable now but if you try 2.3 youll see a speed and battery and api improvment. So eveyone wants 2.3
If lg had said "People I sell this phone but youll get 2.3 in a year noone would qq now.
If lg opened their sources unrooted people would qq now
As things are now all are qqing.
My advice is get this phone. The price / value is very high. That if you can live with 2.2 froyo which doesnt have any problems nowdays but still its not 2.3 gingerbread.
psI was one of the first people that got optimus 2x (snif 500€) and I had numerous of problems with 10b version but it was ok with 10a. after 10d with 725 baseband it was buggless

Nope, there are more of us
Never had any problems, really. And our phone is getting better and better, there is no doubt about it. Even if LG sucks - our developers did wonders out of beta leaks

Also beware of the BSOD problem, that hasn't been yet fixed, even in the leaked GB ROMs (it's probably a hardware issue). It occures every 3-4 days and the only way to unblock the phone is to take out the battery.
Do NOT buy this phone until you're sure LG sorted this bug out!

buy it, its a god phone i never had a problem and i gad it the day it come out

I have o2x for me and my wife.
My boss bought o2x 2 weeks before me (they stole it though).
My recommendations for you is better pick another phone.
Reasons:
My wife runs on stock rom 2.2.2
For facebook, phone, sms camera and some silly games is just fine with the stock rom and good phone for its money.
On the other hand my phone runs on custom rom (topogigis) because the battery, customization, stability isnt what i like on the phone and i want more than a few apps like my wife. Stock 2.2 was a nightmare for me. Reboots, bad reaction and generally not stable for my taste.
My boss had 5 times reinstall stock rom etc because he had issues with the phone. He said at last installation that the phone runned smoothly although BSOD was a daily bases (at least once a day).
Conclusion:
If u want a phone with stock roms and never care about anything else look for another phone. LG support sucks, just forget stock rom.
If u want a phone with good hardware and low money but u want to custom everything then buy one but get in mind that u might have to learn how to cook roms because many developers might quit developing on this phone and buy another phone, considering LG support.

Haters gonna hate
Wow, there are so many haters in this thread, lol
I love my 2x. It is the best phone I ever had.
I didn't have any problems with the original stock rom (except for the fact that it was a little sluggish). After the last LG update (10d), everything is nice and smooth.
I am on a gingerbread leak (topogigi) because I am a nerd, but I found the 10d fast and stable.
Also, lol at having to learn how to cook roms to use the phone. I think developer support for our phone is awesome and nothing makes me think that it's going to be changing any time soon.

Hi
I have ben looking to buy the lg 2x optimus for a while. Reports of isues, the phone not working proberly, battery, bluetooth isues and so on, have ben holdning me off. And i have infact started to look for other phones, then i saw that cyanogenmod are adding support for this phone, and its getting pretty close. So i was wondering, will these isues that people are having, be resolved in cyanogenmod?
The reason i am looking for the optimus 2x, is because its only a 4", i think 4.3" is a bit to big, also if cyanogenmod is coming, and all the "isues" are solved with the phone i really thing this could be a nice phone that should be able to run icecream pretty good aswell, so it wont be outdated in ½ year.
oh, also its on sale atm.. should i strike or wait?

I think most of the issues are software issues and are getting fixed piece by piece. The real hardware issue, you sent the phone for warrenty.....
So I would go for the O2X. I have it since day one, and only Issue I had since then that the phone powerd off like 3 times. 3 Times in 2/3 months is ok for me Since the update it hasn't powerd itself off yet.

I was a HTC user. Almost all the smarthphones i've owned were from HTC.
All the HTC phones I've rooted. Not cause of custom roms or whatever.
Just some setting changes etc...
The O2X I havn't rooted yet. Why? Cause it works as it should work.
On the first stock rom I could get 1.5/2 days out of the battery. And even got 4 days (disabled internet). And now with the new rom I get one day. So that is also a software thing. But still I don't see the need of rooting the phone.
The phone works very good out of the box.

i am comming from a htc desire, that is running cyanogenmod, and tbh i wouldent be able to live with anything else, than that or a clean android experience.
For those, who are considering to buy O2X, my advice it to wait till gingerbread update is released. The phone is a promising one and I also think most of the problems described here, are software related. The UI is quite laggy sometimes, some people have reboot/battery drain/low incall quality etc. So w8 til gingerbread arrives.

I agree with you. Wait for Gingerbread. If this update will not resolve all the problems then its a ****y product.
tnx for the response, desided to wait it out and see.. TBH unless the cm version for it, is bad, or anything like that, i would probaly buy it. I dont plan on running a stock rom any way, i am considering it just because there is cm for it

TBH it's a ****ty product for now and hopefully new firmwares will fix it; for now it's a strange and very picky device. I always think back to the days I just got my HTC Hero; that device only got "fixed" due to paul 'o brien and the cyanogenmod team otherwise i had been selling it a long time ago. Still got the hero though and recently flashed one of the latest oxygen roms on it and it actually amazed me how solid and fast it was; that is one of the beauties of these kind of phones; the communities behind it fixing things.

But as long the HW isent "bad" or there are isues with the hardware, i dont see why the phone wouldt be a good buy, as long you know, you need to root and mod it, in order to get a prober phone.
after all the tmobile version runs pretty good i am told, so its more or less software isues?

The stock android experience on the tmobile version still has some of the quirks we experience in the rest of the world, but even with the LG crapware software layer it can be an awesome phone but just don't treat it as a normal android phone; leave the LG crap in place and build on top of it or your phone will reboot/hang/go black (in my experience)

so just to be clear, if i remove all the lg crapware, the phone will run badly ?i thought it was the other way around.
As things stand OP, I just wouldn't bother with this phone...
Had it nearly a month now.. fantastic hardware but the software sucks big time. Super slow and battery life sucks (probably due to software).
Thoughts of waiting for Gingerbread are all well, but LG managed to screw up the current software so well that I have complete faith that they will also screw up that too.
In a couple of months the Galaxy S2 will be out followed a bit later by the Atrix.. I dare say they won't be perfect but I don't think they can be as bad as LG's "effort"..
I really wish I had a HTC Desire, a 2 year old phone over my O2X...
Don't get me wrong, I love Android to pieces, but IMHO if Google can't sort out the mess that too many manufacturers are making of their OS by sticking their own crap on top and making it awful... it'll just push people towards Apple (who I hate). The man in the street just wants a phone that works and doesn't want to be messing around with custom roms etc.
This phone needs a lot of work to make it useable. Out of the box, this phone was crap, battery died within 10 hours, hanged 2-3 times when charging and browsing and needed to take out the battery.
I have some spare time this weekend and finally tried the vanilla rom from paul. It works perfect! No lg crapware, just pure google.
I'm using opera for my browser, listen to music for 4-5 hours with poweramp, downloaded some apps, play samurai 2, and the battery finally died after 30 hours!
Hello,
I have been reading this forum in the past few days but I still can not decide what smartphone should I buy for my birthday which is in about 2 weeks.
To be honest I have never owned a smartphone before, so when I decided to get one recently, I thought it might be better start off with a medium category Samsung Galaxy Ace for about 135 EUR (discounted price as a loyal sub-er).
However, after some further readings I realised it might be better to get a premium category O2X for about 270 EUR (with the same discount), since it will not outdate as fast as SGA, so probably I can use it for 2-3 years while SGA has already lesser apps and its slower processor will be outdated relatively soon. I do not intend to buy any new phone for 2-3 years after I get one now.
Also as a newbie, I think it will take me some time to get familiar with android features so waiting for updates should not be an issue for me (having the freezes and Gingerbread in mind).
As it stands now, O2X seems to be a better investment for me for the long term, but as I have no experience wiht smartphones at all I would like to hear your opinion as well - thanks in advance.

those here that can cope with the o2x know what we've been talking about. How does a fresh one fit in?
- need 2x day on a battery?
don't go near android (but it can be done)
- need an ios like expeience?
the o2x is a no go; you're better of with a high end htc phone
- cutting edge?
the o2x could be it; for now the nexus 1 and nexus S are a better choice
- UX
sense -> go htc! or maybe Sony/Eric
- the most powerfull phone
hey this could be it, for 4 months
You should buy it, cuz it hasent locked bootloader and it very easy phone for the developers, so there will be very good roms, and btw. CM7 is on the way :=)

Thanks for feedback.
The problem is that my provider currently sells 3 types of HTC: Wildfire, Desire and Desire HD. HTC DHD would cost 430 EUR which seems too much for me, normal desire would cost nearly as much as O2X.
Also nexus phones are not avaliable at my provider and there are only 3 types of Xperias avaliable from S/E which I dont really like.
I am kinda bound to my current provider so I do not think I have too many possibilities..

[Q] Final verdict . To buy or not 2X ?

Well guys im going to buy my first android on 18 July .! n im really confused by the comments n going through all the treads about the reboot related problems of this phone .! n now im really scared to buy this phone also i want a future proof phone as this will be my last phone from parents n i can buy my next phone after 3-4 yrs only ..! So guys plz help me weather to buy this phone or not .! Even if i get a defective piece will the problem be corrected in future updates or i will have to keep a defective phone for the next 4 years .! Also as in from india does India getting too much defective pieces ? or its just with some people when it comes to India ..
waiting for your suggestion ..!
Based on *my* experience I would not buy this phone again. It's unstable (over 60 recorded reboots since I bought the phone on April 18) and lacks proper support from LG (why does this not surprise me?). In my opinion, LG, again, fails to deliver on it's promises and keeps on spreading lies on whether or not an "update" fixes the reboot problem. I don't see this phone last for more than 2 years of intensive use, let alone 4 years. In that case, go for another brand although I won't start suggesting specific models.
FYI: I'm an experienced Android and used nearly every ROM available to remedy the problems I experienced.
Personally I think this phone is great. I hardly get any reboots or problems.
Install CM7, Paul's Modaco rom or the latest stock release and you'll be fine.

So mate u haven't got any problem like this before ? i mean the phone is all ok for ya ? rit ?
I'm also a happy owner of the 2x, that is however because I was able to buy it at less than half the retail price from the company I work at. As a lot of people already have mentioned the phones hardware is really good and by flashing custom ROM's like cm7 or Modace the phone becomes "ok" for everyday usage. However for a smartphone valued over 500€ it is way to buggy to stand up among its competitors in the same price range. Seriously; I simple cannot understand why anybody would buy this phone instead of, for example, the SII or the HTC Sensation. The 2x is a nice phone, no doubt about that, but I would seriosly save a couple of bucks and buy one of the other phones I mentioned = better hardware and working software + working customer support. (btw the camera is also lousy compared to the SII and Sensation - even with the HD mods...)
I'm not a LG hater, and I'm really happy with my 2x - seriously most people are still pretty much amazed by my phone when I'm toying aroung with it running cm7 with SPB Shell 3D, [email protected] 1,5ghz, dsp manager etc. but yeah It seriously cannot be compared to a Sensation or SII
I haven'd hat any reboot both with stock rom and custom roms. In my opinion stock rom was quite well usable except the battery drain. But Paul fixed it quite good, which makes it possible to charge the phone every second day with reasonable constant usage
kind regards
I cant compare to a Sensation or a SII since I haven't touched them but for me at this stage the LG is SUPER. Hope you made a good choice and that you are happy with it!

same here.. great quality and "open" like a google dev phone haha
I have it from the early begining and used only with MoDaCo ROMs , had no problems. Would buy it again.
Actualy I believe that most of the problems other have is because of basebands version incompatibility with instaled RIL...
I like my LG 2X. To me it has the best spec for the price range and good ROM from Paul and CM7. But if money is not a problem, get galaxy S2.

Got an offer to trade my O2x far a Xperia play

I just got an offer to trade my O2x for an Xperia play, in same condision as my O2x. Would you consider it. I really like the hardware buttons for gaming, but i like the design of the O2x better. The O2x has more power, but does it help running apps faster. Also the O2x has a lot of bugs, and it seems like Lg isn't able to fix it. (Hanging when going to lock screen, sometimes slow scrolling in, especially the contacts list in phone app) Would i be better of with the Xperia play?
i would never. hardware of the xperia play is crap
yeah dont do it xperia play is a crappy fone if you ask me
update your phone to the latest stock (for greece its 10d with 725bb) ise it 2 days and then answer yourshelf the question in this thread
Xperia Play is a lot worse than O2X when you look at the hardware. But you can always make change to the software, to the hardware it isn't easy like that.
There is going to be gingerbread update soon, a lot of people say it's going to be on September 15th so I would rather wait and see how good the upgrade is. Here you can see how it might be youtube.com/watch?v=3CUnTcxv3k
Thanks for the answers. I think i will keep it for now. There might also be a reason i choosed the. o2x the first time
Root and Flash CM7, that'll change your mind.
my last 2 version of O2x (v10d and v10e) BB 725 (SEA version) has been very stable. I've been using it for 2 weeks now and not a single crash. Only one reboot while charging but other than that no matter what app i run while charging it, it's been rock-solid stable. As if no prblem has ever visited my O2x.

i have an lg 02x, i don't think i'll buy a crappy lg product again. They are good in making hoovers and fridges, when it goes to building something with a software they simply fail.
It takes 2 minutes for their software to check if lg pc-sync is active, enough said.
Sony on the other hand will abandon you soon, as soon as the new model come out you will be left without updates. The xperia x10 mini (old model) is still on 2.1

Hi there,
I never regretted the decision to buy an O2X. It's a great phone for the price that you have to pay. However, it's true that unrooted the phone really sucks because the stock rom is laggy and slow. It's also true that the LG support sucks because we had to wait a long time for the official GB update.
Nevertheless, when you root the phone and remove the bloatware the phone becomes mush better and there are many customers roms and kernels which will improve your phone even more. You can find them in the dev section.
Don't worry about the dev support for our phone, most of the roms out here are updated daily, and there are many things to choose from.

I fully agree with the previous post by SP1996AC.....i have not regretted buying this phone at all....thanks the magic of our developers...there is always some surprise and some interesting thing added to the ROM for this phone....I am happy and i am sure you will be too....
So many Custom ROMs and so many features with stability and performance....IT ROCKS man...so jump on
Hello!
As always it is about your needs, how much money you want to spend etc.
IMHO the LG O2x is one of the best phones you get for the money.
Just in short - why did I buy a LG Optimus Speed...
1.) I wanted a fast Dual core Smartphone. At the time (end of Aug. 2011) there where others like HTC Sensation, Samsung Galaxy S2)
2.) I wanted a the phone not to be so big (4" was a border I didn't want to cross) - therefore HTC Sensation and Samsung Galaxy S2 didn't do the race...
3.) ...and the LG O2x was 140-150,-€ cheaper...
I knew the LG standard software is crap, but I hoped for the community to fix this and the community fixed it...
With CM7 and custom kernel the phone is blazing fast and everything works as expected.
The only thing not working perfectly is the FM radio - but honestly nothing I really need/use/miss...
So if you feel confident enough to root the phone right away and flash a custom rom, either closely stock(i.e. Guestes ROM or Django Manouche or whatever) or ASOP like CM7 you will get a fast Smartphone for relatively small money...
Even ICS is on the horizon and as CM7 is already working good - I can wait patiently...
IMHO - I wouldn't recommend using pure stock.
Thans, this certainly helped me a lot and i think i will buy one. In a while ( i first have to repair my pc )

I'm hoping to buy one this weekend
I have one!
Is a good phone for the price.
i just bought it one month ago, agree the first thing you have to do with the phone is to remove the stock lg rom, very slow and sluggish, in the coming future hopefully there will be ics fully functioning, with the required nvidia drivers that was due to be release
Hi pp, so many votes in favor of p990 & my thought about it also same, its not the perfect phone but price performance looks features makes it one of the best phone.
If u buy use custom rom with custom kernel, u will never regret.

Congrats to those who liked the phone and bought it..

Problems

Hey, im about to buy an optimus 2x but i heard there were ****loads of problems with it
is this all fixed in custom roms? and how is the battery in the rom?
2x user
this phone is great you should buy one specially if you're a gamer type this is the phone i will recommend to you
the battery in gb is slightly worse but i cant compare it to other rom i never try another rom
i had to choose between SGS i9000 and this phone but im not sure if lg is stabil enough with custom roms and such
From what I've gathered around the forum it seems to me that the ones who bought it back when it came out they had some problems with SoD's and random reboots and shut downs. The ones who bought one of the most recent batches (like me) are very happy with it. So if you're buying a new one you should have a good experience.
could the old ones be fixed with a custom rom?
Personal opinion on the LG O2x:
If you use only Stock ROMs, I wouldn't buy this phone.
Support on this device from LG and Nvidia aren't the best.
If you use custom ROMS, there's for me no big reason to switch my device. No bigger problems here. Community on O2x is quite nice, better than LG
If you like games that requires good hardware, buy one.
If you like to play around with ROM:s/Kernels, buy one.
If you like to have good support and many updates, don´t buy one.
+ This phone is almost unbrickable
+ Good performance
+ Good camera
- Bad support
- Don´t expect help from LG
- Not so good stock UI/Feeling

Flashing custom ROMs help because using the hardware more efficiently will lead to less overheating, etc, but the hardware will still be better (I've heard they've done some hardware revisions on some components) if you buy a new one.
So if you're aiming to buy a second hand phone maybe you should go for samsung if you want to be sure you don't have any problems, as you won't even be able to return your phone under warranty.
The original galaxy is nothing compared with this phone. Even when on stock. But yes, even in the latest updates of stock gingerbread 20Q, there are no more problems at all, you could say its almost bug less
