Sure delete the current music app if it's googles and reboot to rid the trace of the app loaded in the dalvik then try to install

4.0.1 is waaaayyy more slicker & smoother. it runs alot faster and dosent seem to be as laggy/buggy as the current market version

I still have major problems with album art getting mixed up easily. I am very meticulous about tagging my collection and it's never wrong over other methods of browsing my collection like media monkey or multiple dlna clients. Only when I copy mp3 to my phone. Hope they fixed that.

Works MUCH better than the previous version. I'm getting no force closes or weird behavior anymore. The UI is also cleaned up quite a bit.
I removed the previous version and pushed it to /system/app/

Looks great; unable to synch, but I now at least have the repeat/shuffle options I used to have, and the UI has been refreshed nicely.

Anyone tried uninstalling it yet? I guess it leaves no trace? Just got worried as it said "upgrading this system app" when I was installing it! Want to make sure I can get back to stock if needs be
It just updates the original music app. If you want to get rid of it you can go into manage apps and uninstall the update just like all the other system apps.
Thanks just wanted to check before I try it

Added the new Google+ also!
I can't get this to install. I've tried uninstalling the Google Music from the market (3.0) and uninstalling the stock MusicGoogle.apk in /system/app (2.3.7) and each time I get "Application not installed".
EDIT: If I try installing through ADB, then I get:
Code:
./adb install -r ./Music2.apk
5537 KB/s (2979197 bytes in 0.525s)
pkg: /data/local/tmp/Music2.apk
Failure [INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_INCONSISTENT_CERTIFICATES]
Just uninstall old music, reboot, install new music...it will work like this...and if after u dont c the option to syncronize just clear data in settings-applications...

Which old music do I uninstall? There are two options.
The first one is the one that sits at /system/app/MusicGoogle.apk, and this is Music version 2.3.7. It does NOT have Google Music support.
The second one is the update you can install through the market, version 3.0. This one gets installed to /data/app/com.google.android.musc-1.apk, and it does enable Google Music.

For those who cant install it properly:
- Uninstall music 3 (that one updated from the market).
- With root explorer, delete (or move to another path) the music app (now the old one that came with the phone) from /system/app, if you are stock, dont touch the .odex file...
- now you are able to install the new music app, BUT you will get FC, so, move the app from /data/app to /system/app, fix permissions and you are ready to go...
That is the only way that worked for me...
Edit: btw, this thing is fast, way better than Music 3... now i am even more excited about ics... damn google, why postpone...

Downloading now. Going to try to flash it on Stock ICS (De-Odexed, Zipaligned, rooted) on a AT&T HTC Vivid. Will let you know how it goes. May take a while because I am going to do a backup first. I play Star Wars The Old Republic and use a mobile authenticator and the only way to restore it is to call them and answer a bunch of security crap then have them remove it so you can reinstall the app and re-add it to your account with a new serial number, so I'm not going to flash ANY new roms until there's a JB ROM (or, my 90 day return policy on my Vivid gets close to running out and there's no JB in sight.. then I'm switching to the One X since it's only $50 more)
---------- Post added at 04:16 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:48 AM ----------
Okay, it works. Well, except for the double take. I'm pretty sure that's been fixed in other versions, but I don't know if those work on the vivid.
I thought the voice didn't work at first because it would do the beep to let me know it was listening, and the chime when it found results but no voice. Turns out, the beep and chime use alert/notification volume while the voice uses media volume which I had turned all the way down.
So yeah, this works with rooted stock perfectly except for double take and saying "Google"instead of pressing the Mic

....and there goes my only reason for wanting JB. Literally for Google Now. Between this and all of the ICS-themed stuff out there, I have a perfect mix. ICS launcher (Apex), Sense 3.6 apps (peep, friend stream, etc) ICS Dialer, Calculations (what the stock ICS calculator SHOULD have been), Sense Weather, and GOOGLE NOW!
This phone already runs smooth as silk, so the only feature I was willing to abandon it for was the Siri-Stomping Google Now goodness.

This is awesome! It seems to work really well. Voice search and response seems to work just great! Only "issue" so far is that the responses give units of measure in Imperial, and being from Canada, I expect metric. This isn't an issue with the port, just with Now itself I guess.
Anyway, love it! Thanks for the hard work of all Devs involved!
PS - I flashed on Holics 1.2 using CWM.

Just FYI - this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1747224) thread has had a lot more progress (and is also the thread that was featured on the front page (http://www.xda-developers.com/android/google-now-with-voice-search-finally-working-on-ics/) on 8/5..don't know why another thread was needed. Back up FIRST! then flash away (this was built from a stock ROM's services.jar so I don't know if it will work on others. Your ROM must be deodexed.)

Here's what I'm doing and I'm quite happy with it. TWRP 2.8.7.0, CM12.1, open gapps pico.
I used TWRP to format data and cache to f2fs. I rooted and I installed the Trimmer app linked above and have it scheduled to run twice a day. I initially installed the Google app (Google Now, Launcher, Voice search) but found that it was too much for this tablet so I removed it. I have plenty of other Google services and apps installed (Gmail, Photos, Chrome, Books). I also found Tinycore to be useful. It shows the CPU utilization in the status bar.
U should try below lollipop ROM
Feels smoother for me than any other KitKat or lollipop ROM

To increase the performance of the N7(2012) unrooted model, you must remove any ram hungry apps. I've done this and mine has been pretty much lag free, considering the age of the hardware.

yes if you have facebook and tunein running in the same time whatever config you have you gonna wait for a long time lol
I went into the "Accounts" --> "google" and I unticked "google fit data" "slides" and "sound search for Google play" this has significantly increased performance and stability of my nexus 7(2012). I did this while experiencing crawling performance speeds with the UI and occasional freezes. Immediately I saw an increase in performance after doing this. Will someone else try this and see if they get the same results? Thx.

Thanks for the recommendation. Unfortunatelly, after flashing it my Nexus worked even slower than with CM12.1. Ultimatelly I flashed OmniROM (based on Android 4.4) and now it's finaly - usable.
Using virtually any Lollipop ROM (whether it's AOSP or CM based) Google Maps app is extremely choppy and practically useless. Pinching and zooming, moving left-right, ... - everything is slow. With OmniROM it's much much better. And since my dad never had a tablet (nor smartphone) he won't miss the fancy UI and fonts from Lollipop.
OK so I'm not rooted and the N7 is getting so its unusable with the lag.We only use it as a media device to stream netflix etc to TV ,so thinking of rooting it ,but installing a stable customnrom to sirt it out ,any suggestions and is marshmallow working on it
