Navigation problems - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Themes and Apps

I am having problems displaying maps. Any maps through anything. The GPS is connected, my location is found, the arrow points, supposedly, to my location and the menus are available, but the screen is black - no maps showing at all.
I have Drive On that gives option of using Google maps or Bing - black screen. gMaps - the same. GPSSatellite - ditto...

did you have internet access (wifi or data) on?

Of course. However, one of the programs is supposed to use GPS only, all of the programs appear to find my location and co-ordinates are provided without data access, just through GPS. Only the maps fail to appear... Black screen with only menus and options visible.

No GPS option in Google Maps

Hi all,
I have just got an MDA vario 3. I can use tomtom 6 with the built in gps fine but google maps does not have any options for gps at all! No where to set it up nothing !
Its google maps 1.7.1.4
Do I need to download any other software to enable the gps option?
It is set for com4 in setting in WM6 and Tomtom can find it and use it…
Any help?
The option is called "Show My Location". We forewarned, though, it doesn't function the same way a true GPS navigation app works. Basically, I use it to let me know when I'm getting close to a turn ... Google Maps does not (as far as I know) go turn by turn automatically based on location.
Edit: By the way, you have to turn on Show My Location before you have the option of using your current GPS location to plot your directions. You won't even see the option if you haven't told Google you have GPS with the Show My Location menu item.
thank you, I was looking for an option that said GPS!!!
Silly Me!

GPS without a data connection?

I have a Kaiser running WM6.1.
I have a separate GPS that can access satellites or whatever and give me directions to places without any subscription fees or anything...
The Kaiser has GPS capabilities built in.
I have Google Maps, which I love, as long as I'm on wireless.
My question is, is there any program I can put on my phone that will make it behave like my other GPS, accessing satellites instead of data connection to give me maps, or even just GPS-based directions? Better yet, can I download maps from Google somehow and have Google Maps use GPS instead of data connection?
Thanks!
TomTom Navigator, Garmin Moble XT, iGo, etc... um, SEARCH?
I have found TerraCrosser to be a very good GPS app from my Tilt. It has a companion desktop app that you can download map files from Goggle/Yahoo map. The can get very large depending on how much detail you desire. So have an SD card ready.

You're misunderstanding - Google maps like any other GPS programs do use the Kaiser's internal GPS to get your position/speed/heading. However, as it has no local map storage (except the cache of already visited places) it needs data connection to download the map tiles as you move. Google map is also a "dumb" interface, when you ask for directions it will submit that to the google server and just display the response to you.
What you need is one of the aforementioned programs - that have their local map on the memory card, and do all the work themselves without requiring some server on the net to do it for them.

[Q] Latitude Doesn't Update

Hey all,
For some reason my location in Latitude doesn't update in the background unless I go into the app. I've got it set to update automatically.
Any ideas?

Mine was working for a few weeks then just stopped. Not sure if it's because I'm usually only running on 2G? (since Froyo 3G is unreliable in the house).
I nearly always have a 3G connection. It can't be that for me, surely.
Bumping for sweet justice
Does anyone have any idea why Latitude won't automatically update my location unless I launch the app?
Two things:
Have you checked your latitude security/privacy settings in the menu? You need to have that set to update in the background.
Also, enable the google latitude location history http://www.google.com/latitude/apps and check, i have found that my phone reports in the maps app as if it had not been updating but it in fact had. It just does not refresh the icon in maps when it does that.
If not those two items, then I do not know what.
Thanks snlu178,
I had enabled background updating. I've managed to see my location history now that's it's built up (you don't get to see it right after signing up) and I can see that it's updating in the background. Thanks a lot for the advice.

I had the same problem and I just cleared all Maps data from the Applications menu in Settings, and made sure I tapped Join Latitude instead of just enabling the Latitude layer.

Oh, just tried that, lets see how it goes
Remember it only uses cell tower location while in the background, not true gps satellites. So you won't see your location move in real time, it will only update once every 10 minutes or so.

Google Cacheing maps not working as I thought it would

I have the WiFi only Tab 2 7inch.
I cached some Google Maps around my town. I can locate myself with GPS by loading the maps, but I can't use navigation. Is that correct? I thought the point of being able to cache maps was to be able to navigate without a data connection?
It's normal. Maps requires a connection to calculate the routes. If you want to, you can set up the route when you have wi-fi access and the route (and adjacent roads) will be cached automatically. Then you can navigate offline.
Otherwise, you need internet access.

[Q] Google Location Settings

Hello people,
in the latest Android versions the settings were made much more "simple". So we have just one toggle to change if all google-apps will have access to the GPS signal.
In my case, I´d like to disable it, except for Maps and Android-Device-Manager. But that´s not possible anymore! Because by switching this single toggle, you will enable GPS access also to PlayStore (-Services), G+, Now, Hangouts and much more datasucking applications.
But: As you can see in Maps, or in your location settings (last apps wich used your location), it still works by triangulate your GSM signal.
So, it seems that it doesn´t mind whatever you setup on the device.
What have you done? Don´t you mind about all these Applications, reading all your data and current locations?
Do you use any Apps which deactivate this behavior?
