[Q] How to backup my mini? - Samsung Galaxy Mini

I guys, i want to root my phone but i don't want to loose any data.
So what's the best way to do it?
I've been reading about this and for my surprise its an unclear process.
If i understood this correctly, google backups my setting automatically when i tick "backup my settings" option. Also contacts are secure and i don't care about sms.
What about apps data? I don't want to backup the apps, i can download that from market again. I just want the data. I read about doing a full backup with cwm, is this possible? Does it work, i have it installed already so it would be a nice option.
As you can see i have many doubts. Can you help? Thanks in advance

if u have flashed cwm then its quite easy.. First switch off ur phone.. Then go to recovery mode by pressing the home button and power button simultaneously..in the recovery mode u can c many options..just navigate to backup and restore and then press backup.. Note-touchscreen does not work in recovery mode..u need to use volume up down buttons to move and home button to navigate.. When u want to restore just do the same process but select restore this time..

thanks, now i only need to find the courage to root.
it gave me an error:
can't mount /system. help please

Go to the recovery mode and then go to mounts and storage.. do u c these options..
Unmount/cache
mount/ system
Mount / sd
Etc....
try to mount all the options and try again..

i can only mount sd.
all the others give me a can't mount /... error
Is it possible that it doesn't work because the phone isn't rooted?
Because from what i read nandroid backup only works with a rooted phone. Is it possible that its the same with cwm

Yea.. Maybe.. But if u want to root.. U can do that easily without any harm.. If u want to revert back just flash a new firmware through Odin.. U can find suitable firmware from Samfirmware.com

yes i know that. My only problem is that rooting will wipe away all my data. And i didn't want that. Its allot of hours spent playing angry birds and others.

Super one click didn't work for me on gingerbread but I think now its fixed.. Btw I used the update.zip flashing method..

Rooting will not wipe data. One method to root is - you simply get into recovery mode and flash upd_1.zip.
Other method is to flash clockworkmod recovery. This uses odin to flash the tass-recover-cwm.tar file while the phone is in download mode. Neither method touches the ROM.

See above. I hope you are meaning the Samsung Galaxy MIni GT S 5570, and not the sony experia mini.

yes, im talking about the galaxy mini. And i can't root it in samfirmware's gingerbread.
I just spend more than 6 hours on superoneclick, upd_1.zip and intensive googling and i can't do it.
I couple of weeks ago i flashed cwm 4.0.xx, just for the sake of it. So if there is any way to root it through there i would apreciate the help.
upd_1.zip aborts and doesn't root.

I even tried to change the script file inside upd_1.zip with various GT-S5570 models like GT-S5570L, E, B or G and no success.
I also tryed AceGingerRoot.zip that is very similar to upd_1.zip and dispite not giving any errors it doesn't root the phone. No superuser installed.
I'm out of ideas but i don't give up.
Thanks for the previous answers guys.

If tass-recovery-cwm.tar is installed through ODIN, that does not root the phone?

It should root? Because i definetly have cwm installed through ODIN on my mini.

E:Can't symlink /system/bin/bugreport

Hello,
I was playing around with Donut, building it from source and flashing it, and it wouldn't work, so I wiped the device, and when trying to flash the stock ADP1 firmware image (on my ADP1), it gets this error:
Code:

Anybody know how to fix this? (I'm not using Apps2SD)
Thanks,
Isaac

Galaxy S i9000 won't get past boot screen.

My phone when rebooting will not get past the galaxy S start up screen.
I tried to install Team hacksungs ICS for samsung Galaxy S i9000.
I went through all the steps as correctly as I thought but when it restarted for the final time it would get into ICS and present a message and ask me to restart, so I did and it would get stuck changing between the regular boot and cyanogen mod.
To fix this I thought it would be best to re flash it back to a ginger bread stock. which I did and that worked, I tried the process again in the hopes that it was something random but to no prevail.
Upon going into download mode i thought i'll just go flash back to the rooted version of my phone
But when I rebooted after that it would not get past the start up screen
I've even flashed it with the custom rom and with the stock gingerbread but they both start up the same and won't get past he start up screen.
Oddly if I use the custom rom which has clockwork recovery pre installed the reboot menu screen will that instead of the regular one.
I would take a picture but my phone is my only access to a camera
Here's what i'm looking at on the reboot menu: (hope it helps)

It doesn't matter. You had a thread open and were getting help in it. You don't just open a new thread because the first advice didn't help.
And ... you did do it wrong, go back, read, search and follow the basics.
