[Q] Cyanogenmod and the IncS camera lag - HTC Incredible S

I've run a search and can't find a concrete IncS specific (or otherwise Sense related) answer.
I went about installing Cyanogenmod 7 on my Incredible S and it worked wonderfully save for the camera application. The refresh rate on the preview was horribly low and there was significant lag compared to while on Sense.
I'm aware that the Sense apk cannot be used on non-Sense ROMs. I'm curious to know what other IncS owners running Cyanogenmod 7 do in regard to camera functionality. I've since hopped back over to Virtuous but would like to use Cyanogenmod again if I could sort out the camera issue.
Thanks guys.

There is a miui camera that significantly improves the camera functionality.
I posted it in general, in the cm7.thread in here

but that still doesn't fix the low light camera lag which seems to be a driver problem.

I've been trying to fix this for a while and have found no solution. MIUI camera, FX camera, and Tiny Photo are are a few options (but I agree about MIUI - doesn't fix anything).
Question - do you find when you're taking a picture from a different app it works ok? When I use the camera app I get the noise, but if I use WhatsApp for instance take a picture and attach is, I find there's no noise.

I don't think the stock cyanogenmod camera is setting the iso properly, I've tried it on auto, and on every other setting, but the resulting photos all seem to come out the same, with lots of noise.

I found the miui camera removed a large portion of the noise for me...
Many others on the incredible 2 forum of cm website are reporting the same.
Sucks that it isn't working for you

It works better in certain situations for some reason. Sometimes lots of grain, sometimes none. But my main point is - it doesn't compare to Sense in any way, from quality to UI and back..a lot of room for improvement

This problem had been discussed over and over again. The only way to fix it is to find someone with knowledge in programming and digital camera programming to decipher the code in the sense version of the camera software.

Well I just got back from my international holiday trip and not totally impressed
The phone worked fine with the international sim card, hate that I can't see what's downloading in the background (google sync, android stuff), because my credit was running out fast and all I used was facebook which was free on the carrier. (social networking)
Also, camera took quite good photos but not as good as the sense. I love how it did widescreen photos rather than just a box size. Also I found my battery died a lot when I wanted to use it.. sitting by the pool and surfing facebook for 1h would use about half the battery. and can't put tiamat on my phone either.
so right now my phone is just sitting in my drawer, because my family member gave me their old iphone and find it more reliable for the time being
I just can't get used to android after having it for over a month, must just be me. I'm not giving up though. Maybe next step is to try another ROM.

Why didn't you turn off data and auto sync?
You seem like the iPhone type lol
---------- Post added at 01:18 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:11 AM ----------
An hour of constant internet for me uses 15 percent battery approximately. (screen on the entire time)
I consider that pretty good

I suppose that rules out Cyanogenmod for us lest we cripple the camera function?

Well, I had an international sim with internet so no reason to turn off data, and would prefer auto sync the same as back home. everything was off except facebook updates.
Also on cyanogenmod, camera is good and clear but doesn't go in widescreen like stock ROM does (I really want to go back to stock but i cant ) and no photo editing effects built in on cyanogenmod. hmm.

why can't you go back to stock?

My miui camera went nuts today. I can only see the image on half of the screen while taking pictures. It's like the menu area is unwilling to release its reserved screen area.

CM7 (RC-1) - minor issues to fix?

Hi all,
This is my first post in these forums but I've been lurking for some time. I just want to bring attention to a few minor issues I'm having with CM7.
1) Sometimes randomly, the main dock disappears and only comes back after a reboot. Anyone else experience this?
2) On the stock HTC Sense, all running apps, or recently run apps, would show up when I brought down the notification bar. For instance, if I was playing Angry Birds and decided I wanted to send a text, I could press Home, write the text, then quickly drag down the top bar and click Angry Birds, which would be sitting next to the Text icon ready to go. On CM7, the apps in use do not appear there (only Lookout security shows up under "ongoing"), so I have to go back into the drawer or choose the icon from the home screen. I found that having all running/recently running apps was very convenient to have on the drop-down bar.
3) When I first started using the camera it was okay, and then at some point every picture I started taking with the stock CM7 camera becomes extremely grainy. When I take a picture with other apps this does not happen, so I know it is not the hardware, but the actual app causing the problem.
4) Camera app menu is oriented only for landscape. Any possibility of changing this? Also [side note], the stock Incredible S camera used the entire screen for the picture which I really enjoyed - I haven't been able to find an app that does this on CM7
5) Contrary to what I've read, I find the audio is actually less powerful than the stock HTC Sense for Inc. S. Anyone agree?
6) On the mail app (not Gmail), there is no way to add mail to spam
These are all extremely minor issues. Overall CM7 is great, quick and lightweight. Kudos to all the developers on this, I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say your work is beyond appreciated. You take the possibilities to enjoy these devices to the next level.
Hi key2gb, here's my experience with your above points:
1- This happened to me, but only once and it was fixed with a reboot. Although I thought it was because of ADWLauncher at first..
2- I hadn't realized this as I didn't get to play enough with Sense before moving on to CM7, but now that you mention it it does sound like a cool feature!
3- I have taken a few pictures with the CM7 camera and I haven't seen too much grain in the images. Maybe it depends on lighting and if the camera changes ISO's (I don't know if a phone camera can do this).
4- I am running CM7 Nightly#68 and the camera icons rotate when I place the phone in portrait "stance". Although I did overall prefer the Sense camera and have yet to find one in the market that comes close to it.
5- When you talk of audio, do you mean the front speaker, back speaker or headphone jack? I haven't used headphones with it yet, but as for the two speakers I have found the volume adequate for my needs as of now.
6- I only use Gmail
I have found that Nightly#68 "fixed" or added a lot of features from RC1 and since my switch to the Nightly build I feel that the phone is near perfection.
Thanks for the response. I am hesitant to switch to the Nightly build because I am not experienced enough with the tech-world yet, though I am getting more into it. It warns against non-experienced people using those so I don't mind waiting a few months for updates and more confirmation that the Nightly is completely stable. Then again, that's what backups are for, right?
For audio - I use my speaker phone for conference calls often and the speaker isn't nearly as loud as it was on the stock.
For the camera - it's a very strange problem on my phone because it only happens with the stock camera. You know how when you take a picture, as it's done processing the picture kind of sets into itself? Right after I take the picture, it sets and then it gets this weird staticy-grainy layer. It doesn't happen on other camera apps, just the stock. I use Streamzoo and that works fine. I really with I could get the Sense camera though it was really great.
I'm sorry I won't be able to furthur aid you as my knowledge in the field is limited. Hoping someone else comes along!
Although I was wary at first as well in trying the nightly builds. I gave it a try on #68 and it has been very stable (no problems at all).
For the audio, I just got an idea. Have you tried playing in the DSP Manager options? I don't know if there might be something there that might help a bit?
Sent from my Incredible S using xda premium
Good idea, I'll play around with the DSP Manager next time I'm on speaker.

You need to edit the build.prop located in the system folder. Recommend using winrar
/system/build.prop
Once there, you will open the file and edit it using a word processing program of you choice. Notepad is fine.
Use search/find button till you locate something that says this Default network type. # 4 => CDMA
From there change the 4 to a 3.
Then next to it you will see this ro.telephony.default_network=4, change it to 3.
Also change "ro.mot.phonemode.vzwglobalphone=1" to "ro.mot.phonemode.vzwglobalphone=0"
This should work, if it doesn't please tell me so I can try and help!

techno, you could try working with him and combining your builds or whatever, seems like he's pretty far along too and i think he might have the rotation issue fixed, not sure though, haven't tried it yet personally
it says rotation issue when auto-rotate is turned off, if that's any key to if thats closer than you are on the rotation bit

Haha, seems he has themes working if you flash a zip file which is interesting. I believe he could put those files in the rom file and get it working with one flash, but I will see if I can get it to work in one flash. Having Themes working would be great.
Sparky's port is pretty nice actually; I tested a couple of builds, but keep coming back to AOSP, because I'm familiar with it. Sparky is also experimenting with different bases (AOKP and CM9) for the ROM, to maximize battery life. He could definitely lend some assistance. Nice to see yet another option become available for the D3! Keep up the great work!

I'll make a backup of Gummy, and give this a test run tomorrow so I can give you some more accurate feedback. I'm pretty naive when it comes to MIUI, so maybe you could drop some knowledge on me...is there a way to alter/trick the Market, to show it as Verizon? I use apps like Bank of America throughout the day, and I know the MIUI market doesn't display certain apps. If there's a way to get that done, then I'm all in on MIUI!

I will do some more research to find a fix for you later today and try a few things that I think will work.
I may be able to use Market Enabler to switch to VZW. I'll give it a shot tomorrow, and report back on how it works, just in case anyone else is in the same position I am. It wouldn't be a big deal if I didn't work in the financial field, but I end up needing access to US and foreign market info throughout the day, so I need a solid solution in order to use MIUI, and take advantage of the excellent features the ROM offers.

It seems that changing the build.prop will make the android market think it is a different phone, but I would rather not change that, I would give Market Enabler a try first.
I would look into sparky's port over at droid hive. You two should team up as opposed to have competing MIUI ports (IMO). Based on the bug list alone and my running of his work, he has a few things functioning that you do not.
The rotation issue I brought to his attention is that when auto rotation is OFF, it should only display in landscape if the phys keyboard is opened, but it does not. It stays locked in portrait.

also meant to say, i already have fix/solution for the theme folder, but he has not incorporated, I'm not sure why...

What is your fix? I already sent him a message on xda, but he didn't reply yet. I didn't know someone else made an MIUI rom for Droid 3 otherwise I would not have made this one, but since I did, I will continue to work on it. Maybe me and him can team up.

Not sure how I stumbled onto this page, but I am currently using IsaneMod's MIUI port for the Bionic right now, and I had this same problem. A few apps would not appear on the Market, acting as if they were not compatible for the Bionic. I got so frustrated, I flashed another ROM to get all my apps back. Well after missing MIUI on my phone, I flashed it again, thinking I could live without those few apps for a while. Well, I ended up accidentally fixing the market issue. For some reason, I thought you had to flash a Google Apps .zip after flashing the MIUI Rom, so I did. But I was actually incorrect as the Google Apps are a part of the ROM, but when flashed G-apps, I flashed what was supposed to be for an ICS ROM instead, but when I booted up my phone, my market had the apps I was once missing. However, I also lost a few icons for certain apps on my phone. Like the MIUI browser app was gone, and I had the ICS browser app instead; and a few other apps did this as well. They all still worked, but flashing the G-apps from that ICS ROM accidentally fixed my market issues. Yes, it was an unnatural way to fix the problem, but if you can find such a file to flash for MIUI on your phone, it may just fix the problem like mine did - as long as you can live without a few MIUI themed app icons. That is, until this problem is solved a more natural way. Anyways, just thought you might want to try this if you want MIUI on your phone but also need your important apps. I hope I was helpful. Good luck!
fyi, for the themes zip that you have to flash for Sparky's ROM, I did that and applying themes works for the most part...the text is sometimes messed up if the theme has a black text and when applying a theme to the Message app, it only changes the theme when you go into a conversation with somebody, not the inbox AND the conversation like it should
and somtimes the placement of things is a little off, like for the lockscreen i use the slider should be in the middle, but it is off to the left a little bit, probably a screen res issue or something from the port

Thanks, I already tried it and noticed the same thing, you should not have to flash a .zip for it to work though so I was looking for other solutions. I have just got to be missing something.

Ubuntu Touch as daily driver

I see a need for a discussion thread that deals with Ubuntu Touch (preferably on Nexus 4) as a daily driver. There are several threads discussing multi boot, restoring Android etcetera etcetera. This thread is for people who want to discuss the day-to-day usage of Ubuntu Touch as their main phone. This shoud be the perfect place to post info about new as well as know issues, strengths, shortcomings, new apps - simply things to help each other out and share tips, tricks, workarounds and more to improve the user experience.
To start out, I would like to know if anybody has a workable solution for adding a foreign keyboard layout, in my case Swedish. I have already tried the suggested steps on the Touch/ReleaseNotes page but had no luck so far with "sv" as the utf-8 code. I still have the original en_US layout.
I heard that it had terrible battery life. Of course the lack of apps (whatsapp for me) is a dealbreaker. OMGUbuntu has a nice article about why UT isnt a good daily driver.

Many of the things stated in the article you mention are correct, but I think battery life should not be the dealbreaker. The drain for me has ranged between 3% and all the way up to 8-9% per hour. It is nowhere near as good as the Nexus 4 with Android, but then again it is not yet fully optimized. For me the daliy driver experience should be mostly improved by working bluetooth, Swedish keyboard, a decent e-mail client and some kind of calendar sync with Google. I hope that Canonical focuses on fixing the basic stuff first and foremost. More apps and settings options will come eventually.
Headset issues
Bluetooth is still not working, but I am also having problems using a wired headset for phone calls. It "sort of" works, but the person at the other end complains about choppy sound. The headset is fine when I listen to music etc.
Anyone sharing this experience?

all things are discussed here already:

I have been following that thread for a while, but I found it was turning more into a discussion about ROM versions, different kernels, install problems, the upcoming 14.04 release and things that seem more aimed at developers. It is getting increasingly difficult to find information about using the current "stable" build v1.0 (r100), which I guess will be updated OTA in the coming weeks and months. I know UT is not aimed at the common user just yet, but I want a thread for us adventurous users that want an alternative to Android on our Nexus phones.
Photos
Is it just me, or do photos on the Nexus 4 taken with Ubuntu Touch look considerably better than its Android counterparts?
Some interesting facts about pictures taken under similar conditions outdoors:
Ubuntu Touch
Image size: 3264x1836
Resolution: 72 dpi
Bit depth: 24
Size: 1.49 MB
Android:
Image size: 3264x2448
Resolution: 72 dpi
Bit depth: 24
Size: 1.46 MB
Despite more pixels, the Android image has much more noise and when enlarging it looks really blurry, while the UT image still looks nice and sharp. I thought the Nexus 4 camera was crap, but now I actually find it pretty useful, I like!

Has anyone tried upgrading from saucy to trusty via:
Code:
phablet-flash ubuntu-system --channel trusty
?
Apparantly there is a bug whiping all of the apps you have previously installed.

This video helped me a lot. I believe you should exchange some of the commands with what is shown here as his instructions are based on the developer preview and not Ubuntu Touch 1.0. Hope it helps!
E-mail
I just figured out I can have two active e-mail accounts. One through the GMail app and one through Gmail in the browser. My wish is to be able to combine several e-mail addresses in one inbox, but that doesn't seem to be possible just yet...

Try to install with MultiROM.
Keep you rom and just add Ubuntu.
Worked for me perfectly.

thanks for your reply
i will give it a shot but does it require root as i cant access the system apps
Just paste all the add-ons you got in the other camera version and put in folder Android/data/camera* isn't needed root privileges

Build number
Hello, can you please tell me how to use these files? In the Android/data folder I can only see "com.huawei.camera" folder and inside it there is a folder called "files" and inside that one is "cameraplugins". Do I copy the folder from your archive into "cameraplugins"?

Sorry, that was a dumb question. I forgot it is APK and I just install it
My camera effect disappeared. How do I restore them again?

its simple dont panic, just go toCamera app info and click the 3 dots in the top right corner, then click unistalls app updates, and its back to the older version.
Can anyone please tell me what's the difference between the current ( EMUI 9.1) camera version and this one? Does it offer 50x zo etc?
Only 10x zoom max with last fw. Apparently they only let the same camera do 30x zoom on the Mate 20 series. Probably artificial limitation to make the newer phone more appealing...
Someone knows what's more in the version 9.1.0.319 and 9.1.0.323
I'm in 9.1.328 os version and I have the 318 camera version.

Need to tell you all I`ve got CLT-L29 with 9.1.0.328 - and the camera got Terrible! Night-mode is atrocious, and day-time shooting worsened. Night mode now makes flat, ugly, no-life-basic photos (doesn`t matter if vivid or whatever colour mode is used), day-time pictures are dark, with worse dynamic range then before. I tried everything to go back to previous version - not possible in my experience. If anyone succeeded in downgrading the camera app version, or installing an older one, PLEASE let me know how. My phone is not rooted - cant find a way to unlock the bootloader. (I read about a possible way with disassembling the phone, but I wouldn`t do that to it).
Cheers,
P.S. - If you have a P20 Pro with older android version - do not update! - it will destroy your camera (basically the only thing you bought the phone for).
I have no issue with 328 firmware emui 9.1 and the cam, how I am in 345 firmware with a new version of camera app, working fine, you can make a factory reset or simply reset the camera app settings

You haven`t noticed. They made it gradually worse - with 8.1 it was so much better in regards of color depth, dynamic range, contrast setting, night mode contrast, light sensitivity - everything, by the time they made 9.1... it is nothing of the kind. BTW this issue is noted, A1 representative I spoke to, said Huawei were "aware" of the night-mode problem, and "wold fix it" in the next generation of updates. But I as a very keen photo-maniac, who bought this phone precisely for the camera, noticed it getting worse by every update, so I don`t truly believe they will fix it. When with 8.1 p20pro was hands down the low-light monster and had outstanding color depth, which the p30pro couldn`t reach because it lacks the monochrome camera (same goes for the nigh-mode). So even if they do something about the night-mode in future updates, for it would be made so that the camera will be smudged to produce p30pro-like (but blurrier) photos.
Otherwise - I made factory reset, probably 10 times since then, even found a way to delete the camera app with adb run tool, installed the latest version from apk-mirror - still the same (of course). Then I factory reset the phone again and again and again...
So please, when citing me, please cite me only if you found a way to answer my query and you personally managed to install a workingly-run 8.1 camera version, please. Thank you so much for your understanding and willingness to help!
Cheers!
My camera is ok too. I use night mode even during the day, sometimes, for the dramatic effect.

Interesting. What is your p20p model: C432 or C7..?
I answer you in the right way with the typical issues with the software and the cam, I don't care how many times you made factory reset, I see improvements in the cam with emui9.1, maybe your cam or phone is damage, or whatever,

GCam for Galaxy Fold (Snapdragon)

I actually tryed to get a working GCam mod and the best actually is the newest version of arnovas GCam mod. The pictures are more clear and sharp with less noise than with the original Camera app.
But the most important important improvement for me is the much better nightmode.
But the problem is that the UI will only work when you start the app in closed mode and when you unfold the phone without restarting the app. If you start it in unfold mode the shutter will be in the middle of the screen.
You can find all infos on the development and the downloads on arnovas tread here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/google-camera-mods/app-arnovas-google-camera-port-t3862448
@Arnova8G2 thanks for your great work. Maybe you can help us fixing the interface on the fold.

-> is anyone using a version with little to no bugs?
-> is anyone trying any other versions besides Arnova's?
browsing around, there are so many versions, that its difficult to keep up.
im currently trying the GCam_7.2.010_Urnyx05-v2.2.apk (Urnyx05, 2020-01-31), because it seems to be the most generic, and most up to date one.
unfortunately, im not seeing any improvement. still seeing quite a bit of noise, and the stock galaxy camera is giving me brighter photos.
i've deleted whatever quick test shots i took, ill post some if i get any real good ones.

Have you managed to find anything better? I've tried about a dozen different gcam apps so far, not comprehensively--just installing, launching to see if all the buttons/menus are in the right place, and if they're not, uninstalling. So far I've found UltraCam v3.2.3 to have the most working features (except telephoto). I'm a former Pixel user so it kinda sucks that Samsung's native camera app seems to be worse across the board, except for maybe videos.
Havent broken when use port. Mode
Please share the ui screenshot of this gcam
I'd like to see the comparison vs LG Dual screen
UI on 'menu' and 'more' option
