Anyone sick of their O2X and moving to the 4S? - LG Optimus 2x

Dont get me wrong. The O2X community has grown considerably from the first time I got the phone 6 months ago. There's CM7, MIUI and leaked GB roms around which are all close to 100% functional.
However, I know for a fact the battery life in most if not all Android phones are average at best. That's the case with the O2X too. Even below average I should say. I still have no idea how you guys can have it last more that a day. Even with all the battery-saving tips, the most I can make it last is around 12 hours.
Another problem is LG itself. Official GB is yet to land after all these months. Hopes of an official ICS by LG is all but gone.
My point is, has anyone jumped ships to iOS? Going back to iOS after almost a full year with the Dell Streak and the O2X.

no i would NEVER get a ****ty iphone not even if it was free

Na, never purchased a apple product and never will.
Sent from my LG-P990 using Tapatalk

I got my O2X for the price of a 3GS not a 4S! I'd agree it's hardly the best phone if money is no object, but it's a hell of a lot better than the 3GS for the money.
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA App

I got the o2x just to have an android device to play with and it was dirt cheap. I've never had the problems people speak of. Even though it isn't the smoothest I will never buy an apple device simply because their design is against upgrading/modding it yourself.
I plan to never buy an apple product unless their whole philosophy changes.

Never Going for an apple product...Anyway i bought my o2x for custom roms..and we have cm7 and miui...soon we get cm9...so m not that worried really.

I dont know why but when i surf on the net with wifi my phone battery drops very fast. In on topogigi 2.0 with HP rc4 with -50 undervolt on alla clocks and no overclock, BB 823 and matching ril, retroillumination is set to 20%. I unplugged the phone at 7 o'clock, used google nav for 30 minuts, and surfed for 3 hours, and now the battery is 20%. I can't understand why :-(

Except LG Update issues and battery I'm really satisfied with 2x It;'s cost-effective. As we always talks negetive which is true let's take a look at positive aspects.
First of all display yep it does has bleeding issue but IPS display is adorable in compare to AMOLED plus.
And sooner or later they'll release kernel sources of GB and that will massively progress development and Soon we can taste ICS from CM
And battery first of all 1500mAH is not sufficient evenif S2 with 1600 has battery probs but you could always buy a battery >2400mAh battery cant be a good reason to change a device.
As per the price we've got more than enough.

[Q] General feedback from someone with a Droid 3.

I've been drooling over the Motorola Droid 3 for months now - then it arrived. I seen it got some mixed reviews - mostly because they say that "It's not THAT much difference from Droid 2...besides, Droid Bionic is coming out soon!!"
Well, for me, it is important with a physical QWERTY that works great, currently I have a x10 mini pro, which is crap.
Anyway, I basically want: Great physical QWERTY, and good specs. The 512RAM on Droid 3 concerns me abit..is it sufficient? Most phones now come with 1GBRAM.
But anyway, can some of you who own a Droid 3 tell me abit about your experience with it, and perhaps say something about what you used to have before you got it, if you are happy with it or if you wish you had waited for something better? Oh, and does anyone know if there are any Droid3-likes that have better specs?
Thanks in advance! =)
There's a topic about this..i think it's called do you still like your droid 3?
Look there. Anyway, i absolutely love the qwerty. 512mb ram hasn't bothered me yet. Screen isn't the best out there but good enough for me

D3 has a good keyboard, and a decent audio, end of the advantages.
Is nice to have it if you like to flash roms and you like to try to overcome is defects.
Other than that it's the usual Motorola. Poor sw, poor battery life, poor performances on GSM networks.
If you want a problem free phone get a Desire Z, or keep the x10 mini pro which is a nice phone too, although the battery is not in line with the SE tradition
Oh ye you'll find that The Solutor (while contributing a lot to this community) will be one of the few who's really negative ^^
I don't think the battery life is bad. I do 16 hours on normal usage which is enough for me. Most smartphones need a recharge at night.
For example even if my droid 3 would last 20 hours, I would still need to charge it over night or I'll have a dead phone the next day.
Yes the FW isn't great, but the default motorola apps contribute to this problem. Use good 3rdparty apps/roms I think the phone is fast enough

Motorola has a good support forum you should check out:
https://supportforums.motorola.com/community/google-android/droid3
I had the Original Droid (Motorola), the Droid X and now this phone. I didn't want an LTE phone because of the connection problems and battery life. Even the people I know with a Bionic have these problems.
I have been switching between my DX and D3 recently. I did a factory reset on the D3 yesterday and that seems to help. I really want to like the phone, if it had a bigger screen - like the Bionic with a keyboard, the hardware would be perfect. The keyboard is very good.
The problem is the phone needs another update. It is slower than my single core DX, much slower when both phones are side by side. After the factory reset it is better, but still slower. I find it isn't nearly as loud, the earpiece speaker for calls and the sounds aren't as loud as my DX. I work in noisy environments so this is pretty important for me; its works for me but barely.
The battery life is erratic. Occasionally I won't recharge at night, my battery will be at 70% by morning with no usage for 14 hours. Other times, I'm down to 30% in the same time.
Camera has problems but that isn't a big deal for me.
If I was looking for a new phone, keyboard is important for me, so this is really the only game in town. I'd probably get it and hope Motorola works out the kinks. Samsung just came out with a slider but I wasn't happy with a Galaxy phone I was trying before my DX.
I would suggest you try to install another ROM or use Autokiller and use the Strict preset. I am running Steel Droid now and using Autokiller on strict and so far my battery life has been consistant. I also froze a couple apps like Backup Assistant that weren't doing me any good. This phone actually can run pretty good once you get away from the stock software and get it more in a natural Android environment.

Root and the 5.6.890 update (or now current i suppose) is the main thing i recommend to improve battery life. After flashing ROMs my battery life hasn't really changed. Of course it's going to depend on your usage but my primary use for my phone is tweeting and texting, some web browsing/tapatalk/games, rarely gps...take my phone off the charger at 100% around 7am and i will go to bed at midnight with 40%. I use Juice Defender only to automatically enable wifi when i'm at home and disable when i leave. If I had (open) wifi available at work, i'd probably be able to go 2 days on a charge.
As for the phone, get it. The only people I see having serious issues are the ones overseas who haven't gotten an update for their version of the d3 yet. it's the best phone i've owned. no bootloops, freezes, random restarts or anything like that for me, which is great coming from a Touch Pro2.

Xperia Z Battery Issues Discussion Thread

There is only one thing that I find really important in any mobile phone: battery life.
Please post the battery benchmarks and real world experience with battery life in this topic. I am especially interested how it compares with the Samsung Galaxy SIII, HTC One X(+) and Apple iPhone 5 in normal day use.
Agree. I'd be very interested in hearing this. Everyone raved about the S3's battery life and I found it really average.
i think the battery life will not be very good thought the XZ have FHD screen
A good italian reviewer said that the battery life lasts only 10-11 hours under heavy usage WITH Stamina mode on, LTE and HSPA+ turned off and push notifications on via 3G from mail, Whatsapp and a couple more apps (you can decide which app has the permission to keep on running even in Stamina Mode). He also says that the LTE module kinda warm the device under stress, the viewing angles kinda suck and that there are mini lags in the UI (problem solved using Nova Launcher).
you can disagree with me all you like.
but to me, there are far too many problems with this phone, and like i say, i think it is outdated tech.
there will be a lot of disappointed people out there.
and battery life is by far and away terrible on this phone.
i've used it.
i can guarantee you will be charging this phone up every 4 hours, unless you know, you don't want to have the screen on at all.

Yes because you have clearly used the phone. Think I'll believe my own hands on with the device with the half hour I had and the battery life wasn't that bad. If you want bad battery life then go use the Nexus 4 or One X - The One will be the same. Go back over to the Samsung forums with the rest of the mindless sheep. Samsung fans are no different from Apple ones. :good:
I tried out phone calls in the three store today nothing wrong with it atall.
So, any real battery tests by users?
Battery life is Decent,
Screen according to the Docomo units and xiFIL is brilliant and nothing to be ashamed of, Viewing angles as proved in the Xperia Z screen discussion thread is not much oof a problem, although samxool likes to look at his phone sideways
Battery is replaceable, just give it to Sony within the 2 years and they will change it for you if seomthing goes wrong, failing that i am sure guides will pop up how to remove the back cover
terrible phone quality, DO NOt judge a phone when you have never used it,
HTC M7 HAD to be clocked higher with the SAME processor as Sense is laggy and slows the phone down,
Samsung octa core propoganda clearly got to you, its 4 + 4 processor, two quads, they do not work together, only one quadcore will be active at any time,
Out of all of the posts here, none had anything to do with the thread. It was all off topic. PLEASE guys, if someone says something that gets under your skin, don't respond to it, report it. Or just move on to another thread

Using the Z yesterday I had over 9 hrs of use with 3.5 hours with the screen on (about 20 minutes of that with full brightness, rest of the time I had it about half brightness), 4g data, wifi and bluetooth on all day, facebook and twitter syncing every hour, email every 30 minutes plus a gmail account for push email, gtalk running full time, about 6 accounts syncing also used the camera a little bit for burst shots before I plugged it in to charge when I went to bed. Still had around 20% left. That is without the stamina mode on or any other battery saving features.
This phone last so much longer than my ion or TL. I don't think there is an issue with battery life here.

Since my iPhone 5 manages 6/7 hours. (And no I'm not a apple fanboy) 3h is rubbish! My S3 managed just over 4h and i know the Z has a bigger screen and resolution but no excuse for putting small batterys in phones that have big screens and high res.

I think I regret buying the Nexus 4

I had the HTC One S before, but wanted the Google Nexus experience (vanilla Android, latest updates (and on this phone compared to the One S quad core, 2GB RAM, etc..) and the price was too good to pass up. I mean, the value for money with this phone is amazing, I don't think I have ever seen, or will ever see better, but...
Coming from the One S, it seems like a huge step down. The phone seems a lot bigger in comparison (mainly width and especially depth), yet when taking into consideration the on screen back/home buttons, the screen is pretty much the same size, but a little wider (maybe 5mm)
Also, when doing a Quadrant test, the One S looks much smoother on the video parts, and the overall score is miles better (score of 6452 vs 4798) on everything
One S v Nexus 4
CPU: 9211 v 10402
RAM: 12383 v 7020
I/O: 7408 v 4149
2D: 1014 v 247
3D: 2245 v 2173
The One S also has HTC Sense which I like (but can live without)
Maybe I will get used to this phone, or just appreciate it more when the next update comes out, but in the mean time I don't really see a huge improvement in speed/responsiveness or the screen over the One S
I can imagine it being a huge improvement over plenty of other phones however, but I think the One S is unbelievably underrated and actually more powerful than I thought it was before. I feel like the Nexus 4 is a downgrade for me right now. I understand the Nexus is thicker because of the wireless charging plate? Well, this is something I would give up for a slimmer phone, especially considering the phone doesn't come with a wireless charging unit.
I don't wanna sound like I'm just bashing the phone, is there anything I should try out on the Nexus 4 that I would be missing on other phones (already tried Photosphere which is great btw)
There is already a nexus 4 vs any other phone thread present as a sticky in which this should have been posted. Didn't need a whole new thread dedicated to this

Eh, if anything, I'm sure you could probably trade back for a One S.
Both are great phones, but at least you can say you gave the Nexus 4 a try.
I don't get why people care so much about the quadrant score. Nexus 4 runs very smooth; no lag at all. Does it makes you feel special when u see a higher number? Most of the stuff OP mentioned could been avoided if he/she done a little research before purchasing N4. It all comes down each user likeness. Now days just Google any phone vs any phone and you will see a very great comparison of every spec.

I like the Nexus 4, but I really like the One S too
In fact one thing I just noticed (found in another Google search) is if you put them side by side on a table they're the same depth (of course the One S is slimmer in the middle)
Maybe I need to get used to the feel of it...
I'm gonna use the Nexus 4 for one full week instead of the One S and see how it goes
Anything you recommend me trying out on the N4?

Nah I don't care about the Quadrant score, but the scores just really surprised me. I think the RAM comes down to LPDDR2 (low power DDR2 instead of DDR2) and I don't know about the I/O (thought it was all flash storage)
The GPU results surprised me though (the video looks smoother) as I thought the N4 had a dedicated GPU chip?
One of the problems I think is everybody compares phones to the One X, nobody has really done any great One S v Nexus 4 comparisons
The nexus 4 runs fast, is a great phone to use, has sufficient battery life for me, and cost half of the HTC phone you mentioned.
I really don't see the point in running benchmarks all day and not worrying about real usage and real cost. If you want to be a benchmark jockey you will always be running after the latest and greatest phone and lusting after every new phone ever 2 months.
The nexus 4 is a great phone and a solid purchase. If you regret buying it, sell it and get something else. But if your nexus 4 isn't defective in some way realize that the problem is with you and your inability to be happy with anything, and not with the phone that is a great performer and great value. I can already see that you're the kind of guy who will never be happy with anything, as you owned an HTC One S and then bought a phone that came out 6 months later. You won't be happy with anything as long as you see something shinier. You are the perfect customer.
Quadrant gets weird scores on Nexus 4, no one really 100% sure why.
Try Antutu, with a bionic optimised rom (most roms have this now) you get 21000+ scores; Antutu had to be updated when Nexus 4 (with 4.2.1) came out because of weird low scores, quadrant was never updated.
Also get your full screen by removing the nav bar and using something else like pie controls from LMT.
edit.. also '3dmark' test will show you the adreno320 in the nexus4 blowing everything else away.
You're incredibly stupid to base your phone choice over some benchmarks.

Hmm, not sure really. The Nexus 4 is pretty much that, a Nexus device with pure Android. I can see why it may (not saying that it does for you) be boring or not as flashy. But there's not much to try out for the Nexus 4. Everything is pretty basic and minimalistic, and that's why some go for the Nexus I suppose.
With the N4, you get a decent device that can run with the best of them. If you're into flashing ROMs, pretty much almost every ROM posted here will work with very very minimal bugs, if any bugs at that. Although the One S isn't a bad device at all, so it's really up to you. :good:
My Nexus 4 absolutely fly's.. it speeds through everything.
It's all well and good having a number on a screen but I owned a HTC ONE briefly and many apps on that lagged yet run fine on my Nexus 4?

yea, if you are running your device at 1.8ghz+ and have other things optimized(custom rom/custom kernel), itll score high. at stock speeds and the stock rom/kernel it will never get close.

battery life discussion

Hi guys, if you use nexus 4, I think you will be probably disappointed by the battery life of nexus 4. Things seems to changed this year.
Here's what Google says about nexus 5's battery life

It seems pretty good compare with nexus 4, based on the way how Google test the device and the result.
I can't wait to receive my new nexus 5
How you guys think? Are you satisfy with the battery life?
update:
according http://www.android.com/versions/kit-kat-4-4/ said, the nexus 5 maudio playback can up to 60 hrs, witch is really incredible!!!
did you notice by any chance that battery test has been don on airplane/no sim with wifi on?
Any cellural reception has significant impact on battery life therefore it is most likley goi9ng to be the same or worse due to size of the screen vs battery capacity

Yes I do notice, but for the LTE internet browsing 7 hrs are pretty awesome, and they are using the default settings with wifi on

Damn.... After going from bad to worse in my last devices (from SGS, to SGS2, to Gnex), it looks like I'm finally gonna be satisfied with the battery life of my phone.

The same here. the specs even look better than iphone, lol
I think it might have something to do with the optimized OS. The phone can run the OS with a minimum of 512mb of the RAM. I was pretty disappointed with the Nexus 4 battery life but it was better than the Galaxy Nexus for sure.

Anyone know if the Nexus 5 also has G-RAM that's in the LG G2? supposedly helps improve battery life of display by about 20% if it's displaying static pages.
Hey guys, just joining the discussion for the upcoming news about the battery from all of you.
Personally, I am going to wait for a while until the typical problems of a "newborn phone" get solved.... IF THERE IS FOUND ANY, which I hope not. :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
I hope the battery life isn't too bad. I decided to skip getting the LG G2 and instead ordered the N5.
How do you think the battery life compares to the GS4?

Let's hope
Battery life shouldn't be that bad at all i suppose. From years now we are used to charge our phones one per day at least...this won't change for the n5. That said, i think this is a big failure of modern smartphones. Lg is tring to make a change, and it's a point to his favour i think.

Failure of a smartphone? What makes you say that? The software that is debuting with the phone is a huge push forward in mobile communications, that's at least a little win.
The thing that will probably greatly help the N5's battery life is that it's the Snapdragon 800... which has the same "bonus core" that the G2, Moto X, and other devices have that allows very little battery usage while the phone is asleep, while still being able to do stuff like play music.

You've misread him.
He was saying that the battery life is a failing of all current smartphones. Not that the N5 is a failure of a phone

whoops! My derp there. In that case yea, I'll agree. Google should have but in a bigger battery, but alas I think they're really trying to stick with the philosophy of it being a developer's phone and less of a general consumer's phone.
That said the battery thing is the only thing stopping me from placing my order this very second...

I mean a failure of a generation of phones. Before the advent of smartphones the recharge of a phone came, how much a week? Three times? Even twice on some phones. That said, we had a great progression on software and hardware, with a clear loss in term of duration per single charge.
The advancement in hardware and software were not matched by the advancement in battery tecnology.
Someone said that you can build the best car at all, but you will need good wheels to make it run faster..Or in our case, to make it "run" xD
Got to admit, I'm a little dissapointed they didn't throw a USB 3.0 port on this beast for multi-charge bonuses :/

Amazing Google designed 4.4 to run on devices with as low as 512mb of Ram but they are not updating the Galaxy Nexus to 4.4.

It's not because of the RAM, it's because of the processor. The manufacturer stopped supporting it.

A ROM to make the HTC One behave like the Evo 3D?

Hey Guys,
So I have been using the one for about 4 months now and battery has not been up to my exceptions...
I know, this thing has a quad and pushing more pixels but it has a 25% bigger battery too (1730 vs 2300). What I want to know is if there is a Rom that'll turn this phone into a 1.2GHZ DUAL core, thats right, just literally chop off 2 cores at ALL times to boost battery?
Haven't rooted the phone yet but this battery situation is wanting me to do that.
This is from experience but HTC EVO 3D got 18 hours after good amount of use and almost two years of battery use (rooted with a good kernel) vs HTC One with 10 hours with "fresh" battery (stock).
Thanks
Why would you want that??

That will fix the battery issue if you don't mind it being bulky
Yeah, why cripple the phone when you could cripply your wallet AND the aesthetic of the phone!? Haha.
All seriousness, what kind of battery life are you getting?
Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk
Would need kernel source to make a custom kernel to shut down 2 of the cores
Sent from my HTCONE using Tapatalk
Root the One before trying to shut down cores. I had the 3D and this phone has much better battery. 10 hours is like 25% with decent use on the One. Something not right off that is what you are getting.

Use cdma only in your mobile settings, This phone gets way better battery life than the 3d

Just underclock to 1.1 ghz
The cores support hotplugging. They are off if not being used. If they are being used, then they are being used to do something that will finish faster with more than two cores, in which case having two cores would give you less battery.
What you want is similar to people who want like 56mhz low power states. It consumes the same or more battery. If the phone could get literally free battery at the cost of just disabling two cores permanent...don't you think they would do that?

I want the phone to be slim and light, I was almost about to buy the S4 but it was too similar to the S3 I had

So if what your saying it right, then why haven't phones increased DRAMATICALLY in battery life with these humongous batteries?
I will root the phone as soon as KitKat ROMs are released.
I've had the Evo 3d and i don't see how you got better battery on that thing. Don't bother with turning off cores, it won't help cause the other core will just be working harder. if you really want to try to save battery, underclock or use the power saver mode with "limit cpu" option. Either way, the biggest use of battery on this phone is not the processor, it's the screen.
Yeah I also had a 3d for a long damn time and I have no idea how you're getting worse battery life. My one gets around 3 hours screen on time. Lucky if I got an hour and a half with the 3d

I say that's pretty good battery life for me. I'm on SWG check him out.

im with the others i have no idea how with the same use the 3d is lasting longer than the one, i use to have to charge my 3d by 1pm cause it was dead, the one can go all day and still have 15-25% when i got to bed.

I think you are right, the screen is sucking down the power, maybe I should get a lower res screen (Moto X?)

Will definitely be rooting as soon as a good KitKat ROM shows up, what is SWG?
To give people a reference to the awesome EVO 3D battery I had, one night (8 hrs no use) I lost only 3% battery! Compared to the HTC ONE I have lost 46% on standby over time
So obviously my next question is about screen res, any options to decrease screen res in certain ROMs or kernels?
You must have a rouge app or something. I recommend either finding what it is or doing a factory reset. The screen takes a lot of battery, but not that much. Also screen doesn't matter in stand by time.

I agree. You need to see why yours is not sleeping well. Just as an example, I didn't use my phone for 9 hours while at work today, and my battery was at 91% when I got out. It seems as if yours isn't going into deep sleep when your not using it.
Also, I don't believe the display drain has to do with the res but more the screen backlight brightness setting. I have noticed that if I turn down the backlight when I can, it saves a little on the battery also. I've also noticed on mine that the WiFi being turned on is a big battery drain. I have my WiFi "sleep" during long periods of inactivity.
Good luck, YMMV

I see what you guys are saying. Let me factory reset the phone first, since rooting is such a pain these days. I will report back.
I might have a battery issue, so rooting can be problematic if I wanted a warranty repair.
I decreased my screen resolution and my battery life is amazing
My 3D had about the worse battery life of any phone I've had to be honest... If your One is getting worse than the 3D you likely have something set up wrong or poorly that is draining it.... Check your wakelock times on apps.
