wifi/3g speeds after 2.3 update - LG Revolution

My 3G is a good bit faster now. On 2.2 the fastest speednet test I completed was around 12-13 mbits/second on 4G LTE. With the 2.3 update, I was able to get a 18 mbits recording, no problem.
I also have much faster wifi speeds now. On 2.2 my wifi was actually slower than 4G. It pulled around 10 mbits/second. After the 2.3 update, it downloads at 24 mbits/second over wifi.
Has anyone else experienced similar changes in networking performance?

Same here, 4g used to be 8-11 down now its consistently over 20. Upload used to be about 4 now its between 8-10!

speedtest.net app

Was curious as to was speeds people are getting when running this app.
On zen's mytouch rom I consistently get >1200 kbps down while on the sprint rom I am getting < 850 kbps down...
On both I get about 600-700 kbps up
I don't understand because I didn't think a rom would affect data speeds.
Can people post their speeds, and if any devs have insight on why the significant speed difference, please enlighten me.
Id expect to see this in dev from a noob, but I certainly didn't expect to see this from you Looney.

thanks... brain fart on my part
it varies pretty greatly but highest was 1452 up and 765 down.
lowest was 456 down and 531 up.
I've always gotten great speed here in Atlanta. I am using Zen's rom and it seems once I switched to this rom, my speeds increased dramatically from the sprint release rom for 2.1.
2151 Down and 646 Up Highest
1751 Down and 711 Up Lowest
I'm getting constant 1400 d/l and 8 - 900 u/l on Zen's ROM

Here in Austin, I probably average around 1000 up and 600 down.
I have a question. What does everyone get on wi-fi? I ask because my wi-fi is never any faster than my 3G. I've always wondered if there is something wrong with the wi-fi on my phone, because I believe it should be much faster.
Wi-fi speed examples anybody?
On 3g in Kansas City I got 1099/730, and on wi-fi I got 3033/559.

OK, moved out of my basement, and now I got 2002/667 on 3g, 2951/551 on wi-fi. My broadband is capped at 512 up.

So far it seems very stable. Much more consistent than the JL1 modem which never worked really well for me.
whats so great about this? is it good on performance or battery or maybe both?

Just installed for ten minutes and went back to jl1. Signal wasnt as good and browser noticably slower. Running axura 2.2
Flashed 30 min ago have a more stable connection than using the JL1, obsidian 4.2

so far it seems the best froyo modem is JK6/
:S
Seems to be giving better lock on gps, even locks indoors. Think I like this more than JL1 on nero v3 beta. Thxs

I installed overnight... Page load time on sites are DEFINITELY slower. Still evaluating for battery life and call quality....
HOLY CRAP BATMAN!
I am running Nero v1 + Super I/O + the JL4 modem. First time ever: speed test:
5.06 MB/s Down, 1.54 MB/s up
Just before that I was at
2.67 MB/s Down, 0.54 MB/s up

Where are you located? Are you located near an HSPA+ tower? I get around 1.5down most of the time here in NJ...
Going to give a try, i usually get about 4.5 mb/s down and about .50 up... ill let ya know if this gives me a boost. oh btw im in orlando FL.
Edit: after this modem i ran speed test and got 5.72 mbps down and 0.61 mbps up... honestly not too diff from what i get normally. I love tmobile.
flashed.
Did speedtest before and after.
Before: 600+
After: 1200+
yay.

confirmed on axura 2.2 it really doesnt help. possibly better on the east coast. but west coast no. went back to JL1
Also running nero v1 and jl1 modem. Did not like that modem. I have another vibrant here (wifes) and its on jk2 and it was much more consistent and seemed to have better call clarity. Just updated JL4 and speeds seem more stable. Speeds vary, but I just now got one of my highest scores from speedtest.net ever.... 5.92 down ...
So far its better for me ...HSPA TMOB
better 3g speed
Giving better 3g speed in comparison to JL1

Best app for connection test.

What is the best app(preferred free) that test how fast your
Wifi/3g connection is?

Not to hijack the thread, but what is everyone's average up/down speeds on Edge and 3G?

On 3g, average of 4mbps download and 2.5mbps upload. Never test edge because I never feel the need to switch bands.
On wifi, I go between 18 and 23mbps down and 15 to 18mbps up.
I'll throw another one in here. FCC test from the market. It's the one I use.
A word of caution
Reg: Data Usage
App: Speed Test
Avg data usage per test: ~6MB
Audience: For people with "limited" data on.
I was puzzled to see I had close to 150 MB data consumed last noon. I was sure I wasn't downloading anything at that and all I was doing was trying out modems. Today morning I realized I was using the SpeedTest app to test the modem at that time. So I made a couple of tests using the app, using the 3G watchdog app to keep tab on data. It kinda shocked me to notice that this app was using ~6MB per test! That explains my data usage y'day. I had done more than 20 tests, to say the least, in less than an hour y'day. And then many more tests during the day and even late into night.
So now u r all warned if u r on limited plan. As for me, I am on the 2GB plan, and well, these speed tests cost me close to 300MB in just one day, y'day.

Hey how did you get up to 18 mbps? The scale only goes up to 10... and I only get about 2mbps.....

The scale changes with respect to the speed. Mine went up to 15+mbps at school.

Can anyone tell me why mine is really slow? Wifi and 3g both are really bad compared to what y'all have..
Sent from my phone
It's case by case. The speed is related to your phone +ROM+ modem + environment. That's one of the reasons why there are so many (ROM, modem, kernel) combinations out there. We all look forward to the release of AT&T's Froyo source such that developers can come up with an universal solution for all.

Using the speedtest.net app, the max speed that can be reached (stable) is around 10mbps, but it flickers up to around 13mbps (unstable). And using the FCC app, it runs the exact same test as speedtest, but it has a a higher max speed and it allows me to get an accurate result.
FCC test seems to provide more stable results on my Captivate.
Speedtest.net halts while testing the upload speed under several different ROM/modem/kernel combinations.
So I've been using Fcc test.. should you set the server to the nearest location? Is that the best?
Sent from my phone
Yea, gives you better results since you're transferring data from point A to point B and back, instead of going from point A to point J and back.

JellyBean HSDPA slow ..More of a downgrade than a upgrade!

When using jellybean Roms, with every jellybean rom I have tried they are all stuck on Hsdpa 8 which is slow ,, when I am on Gb and Ics when I go into settings about phone it always states network as Hsdpa 11, but when I am on jellybean Roms it always states Hsdpa 8 , what is this all about? how is that possible? is it a bug on jellybean and will it affect data speeds? I have tried different radios and tried a streaming app to see if it rises when needed, it does not, tethering is awful and slow, I expected more from jellybean but its seems like 2 steps forward 3 steps back, limiting the network to Hsdpa 8 is a complete fail.
Well it seems this problem is quite widespread and other have had the same problem, its a real shame as jellybean is really smooth but if using this ROM means being stuck on hsdpa 8 then for me that's not a option, if anyone knows of a fix to up the category please let us know.
The max data speed the i9000 can handle is 7.2Mbps. HSDPA category 8 supports speeds up to 7.2Mbps and category 9 is 10.1Mbps. So even if it says 9 it doesn't mean we can get up to those speeds.

To be honest that's if the HSDPA: 8 in the settings menu even corresponds to the HSDPA categories, which I'm not sure about. Best thing to do would be internet speed benchmarks on both gingerbread and jellybean then compare.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
That is not entirely correct. Its not just about the theoretical speed and besides I'm not convinced those specs are accurate. In order to support hsupa of 5.76 it would need to support hsdpa 9 .hsdpa 9 supports multiple duplex connections. I have done multiple speed tests on both category 8 and 9 and 8 is roughly 1.5 to 2 mbps slower.

Very slow wifi

Recently my wifi has been extremely slow, I ran a speed test and my download speed is 3Mbps and my upload speed is 12Mbps(which is normal). Then I ran a speedtest on my N7 and I got a download speed of 52Mbps and upload speed of 13Mbps. This seemed weird to me. YouTube videos barely even play, they buffer like every 10 seconds. I have a comcast 2in1 modem/router but I have not had problems with it before.(all my other devices have fast speeds) Also I'm running Maximus HD 21.0 but it was also slow when I had ARHD. Any ideas?
