I am really wanting the T-Mobile GX2 and I have read through a lot of posts. I am coming from the Vibrant which has tons of pro's and a few crappy Cons but over all it is a great phone. Even reading through a lot of posts I am still not seeing a few answer's that I have.
One is the Vibrant has 2gigs for app installs. I love this compared to the N1's wimpy 192k. So how much does the 2X have for application storage? By that I mean without Apps2SD.
The screen? Is it a standard LCD? AMOLED? I love the Vibrants screen, but it can be annoying for TXT on some websites.
HDMI output? Is it just a standard cable? and is it a true 1080p on the big screen or a scaled 840x480 that the phone puts out? And is it true mirroring, meaning anything on the phone is displayed on the TV and I mean anything?
WIFI? is it N? Bluetooth? I hear the Wiimote is not working, but I am wondering if the T-Mobile version with the AOSP setup will make a difference.
Speaker internal and ear piece. I am really bad on hearing and I love the Vibrants ear piece as there is an option for HAC mode which CRANKS up the earpiece volume so I can hear in a noisy environment. And is the external speaker loud? Again hearing a game is important and a nice clear loud speaker is not a requirement but a plus.
size and weight? is it a super heavy device? and how does it fit in large hands? Do you feel like it is constantly trying to jump out of your hand? My Vibrant is a bit slick and sometimes I feel like it could just fly out of my hand.

Since I dont have the international version of this phone, I am not sure on some of these things that you mentioned but I will share what I have read so far. I am on the same boat and I am starting to not like my Vibrant due to lack of support from Samsung and also faulty gps. I am considering to buy this phone when it comes out and I don’t think I will ever go with a Samsung phone again.
As far as memory goes, G2X will come with 2gb memory for apps and android system. And it will also come with 8gb storage on board.
The screen is an IPS LCD, I am not sure what exactly it will be called. Since iphone retina displays are made by LG, I am expecting to see similar type of screen. The blacks might not be as good as the AMOLED but it will probably be better dpi, less pixilation. So better text reading compare to vibrant screen.
The phone will will have other similar specs, such as the HDMI output, 512 ROM, 8mp camera and 1.3mo font facing camera, NVidia tegra 2, same wifi chip, same Bluetooth chip and same battery. The HDMI connection will be a micro HDMI to standard hdmi, there wont be any tweaks or adaptors and you should be able to have 1080p signal.
I am not sure on the speakers, others who has this phone will have better input on this.
Size will be almost the same to international version, it will be a little larger than vibrant but same screen size. The weight will be slightly more. Almost the same weight as iphone 4. I believe about 139grams.
Above all this phone will have quad-band data. In other word it will be able connect ATT's 3g network if there is a merge in the future. Also this phone will have a hdspa+ capability, which should be 21mb/s data speeds. But the main reason that I think I want this phone is because it will run on stock android. It will be free of the bloatware and It should look clean and presumably a lot faster. For that reason I am assuming it will take more attention by XDA-devs, and hopefully more custom roms and support.
App install partition is 1.45gb
Screen is a beautiful IPS LCD, as used on the Iphone 4 (LG produce the screen for the Iphone 4) - sharp, very bright, with vibrant colors and good viewing angles
Being an LCD blacks are not as solid black as on Amoled, but blacks are still very good for an LCD and color reproduction is good - it is a very high class LCD screen, pictures look stunning, easily as good as my HTC Desires Amoled screen. Looking at it you wont feel you miss out.
HDMI output is a standard HDMI cable but with micro HDMI in the phone end off cource. The cable comes with the phone. It is true mirroring, what you see on the phone you also see on the screen. Since android itself only support screen resolution op to 854x480 all Android screens (desktop, games etc.) are in this resolution being scaled to selected output resolution of either 720p or 1080p, but when you play video it switch from mirroring to only outputting video in native video resolution, and you can then only see video controls on the phone screen and the video overlay itself in 1080p on the flatscreen.
Wifi is N
Speaker is mediocre - both internal and external - not bad but nothing really special either. No HAC mode to my knowledge
It is not heavy at all, despite its size, which actually doesnt feel that big either, it feels light but solid. The feeling in the hand when holding it is excellent - better than almost anything else. Edges are rounded, even the glass front has rounded sides, backplate are "rubbery" feeling - you dont feel like you are going to drop and its very comfortable to hold and comfortable towards the ear also. I have tried most phones on the market the last 10 years or so and I cant think of anything with a better feel when holding it. Some (who dont own the phone) complaints about the buttom space for softbuttons being to big, but its actually just perfect. The sice means that the softbuttons are comfortable to reach when using the phone with one hand, and it means you dont make accidental touches. My Iphone 4 feel like barbwire in comparison. Sharp, slippery and uncomfortable to hold and to put next to your ear.

Thanks guys for the compares! The 1.5Gb install is a win as I really don't want to go back to the limit app space. And I cannot wait to see the screen in person as the Iphone 4 screen does look nice. The micro HDMI is cool, was hoping it wasn't that special USB plug that requires strange adapters. As for the feel I finally pulled up some pics that shows sizes between the Vibrant and the x2 and they look about the same with the x2 being just a bit thicker, so that would work.
The missing HAC is going to suck as my hearing is horrible and I need that extra sound boost. Guess I'll have to wait and see.. er.. hear it.

I did not see anything in this link that covers the G2X, and it is not listed in "LG" phones when you open that link on the left. This thread was on the differences (like the additional 3/4G bands, etc.).

Why would the g2x be listed under LG? It is the "T-mobile g2x"

Good catch - thought they would list under manufacturer and assumed that it only showed current phone - it actually has the G2x US device. In shows the extra 3G/4G frequencies (the only reason I may get it).
In the list of other software, it does not show WiFi calling - really hope that can be installed.
...furthermore, why is a T-Mobile phone using the 850MHz HSPA band and not the usual 900MHz one? Even if it goes through, the AT&T/T-Mobile merger deal isn't going to take effect until well after everybody's moved on from the "G2X"

I have posted in a couple other forums and the threads lost all meaning because no-one understood what I was asking so I made sure this time by listing some things about the Vibrant as a reference. All I am asking is for 2x info, detailed better then specs sheets tell, so I can see if the G2x is going to be worth getting since both devices will be very similar.

There are several phone companies that are finding it easier to make a base phone that supports more then one carrier and pass it through the FCC. Every FCC filing costs the phone manufacture money and anything to alleviate that cost helps. There are a couple sprint phones coming from manufactures that carry Verizon freq's as well. I think this will be a trend amongst all phone manufactures sooner or later.
Also the 850 to 900 issue, I have no idea, maybe it's because of a spectrum issue here in the states. Or maybe ATT just wants to be different.

850 is an AT&T US band - not 900. TMo has a problem here (US) already with selling possible dead-end devices. And since offering "discounted' devices for new or extended contracts is the primary way of signing up and keeping customers in the US, this could be a real problem to them down the road.
Even though many will move up to a different device by then (AT&T) anyway, it still is a worry point, and according to a few local TMo stores - they are noticing it already.
I looked at the network frequencies on t-mobile.com & on phonearena.com and i say this definately my next phone. It has both at&t 3g/hspa and t-mobile 3g/hspa. I'm glad t-mobile brings this out so AT&T won't cripple it like they do their android phones. Its sad that AT&T customers have to go 5 miles to be able to sideload apps, find out that HSUPA is disabled, and deal with capped data speeds. Phuck that. I like AT&T's service but I never bought an AT&T locked android phone. Hence my rant. I will be buying one and unlocking it to use with AT&T. It might help me out if the merger goes through. Having all the bands would totally kick butt!

I was just day dreamming and thought about custom phone building.
It would be like a PC where parts can be selected by you, such as:
Processor
Camera resolution and optics
Display size
Battery capacity
GSM or CDMA
Android version
Outer design (By using current devices of course, designing it by scratch would take to long and cost to much)
Decals (such as name of the phone on the back)
Etc.
Wouldn't it be cool if you can go on a major manufacturers website, build your phone to your specifications, get a quote, and place your order? I doubt this will ever happen but I'm a dreamer.
Any thoughts?

A few select Chinese companies can and will do this for you.
I think it's cool too. And furthermore believe we will live to see it happen one day.
I think it could happen some day. However, I wished the same thing for notebooks, and that didn't quite happen yet - seems manufacturers like the power to say 'I think you want this' and make products. Not a single laptop out right now meets all my specifications, and the same goes for phones, but I still needed to get one, oh well...

Well, THAT happened 10 hours ago........
The launch for the S5 came and my enjoyment faded pretty quickly. You can see from my track record in my signature that I've been a pretty loyal customer of Samsung for quite some time now, and this may be the first Galaxy launch that I won't have a pre-order in the system. Other than stepping away from the Galaxy line to pick up the Atrix 4G, the first mass produced phone with a fingerprint scanner, coincidentally, I've enjoyed only Samsung phones for the last 4 years. The "premium version" of the S5 was supposed to be 5th in line, what with the 20MP camera, metal body, G-Note 3 battery size, 5.25" screen - you've seen it all and read it all, it didn't show up today. Now unless Samsung is about to pull the biggest stunt they've ever pulled, the Unpacked5 event is in the books and we're not getting anything more than what we got today.
Is there any positive that came out of this event? Sure! USB 3.0 is a big thing for me as I have lots of 3.0 gear and want that from my next phone, it's dust and water resistant, cool fingerprint scanner providing it works flawlessly unlike the one on the iThing, updated TouchWiz which (try not to judge) I actually like a little bit, the wearables, the bigger focus on health, better processor, camera, and connectivity, but then comes the let downs, especially for S4 owners. Same 1080p screen at almost the same size, same 2GB of memory, almost the exact same front camera, soon to be the same OS (again, I like TW so I'm sticking it out on 4.3 until the TW 4.4.2 comes out), same plastic body that I don't necessarily mind, but would have appreciated a little change other than just putting dimples in the back cover, and probably worst of all to me, they're offering it in a 16GB format again after what they just did to us who pre-ordered and / or early adopted the S4, sticking us with next to nothing for internal space because they believe everyone has kids and needs to have likely a ton of space dedicated to a kid mode with pre-installed games and crap. I'm single and not looking for that anytime soon!!! It's like they claimed to listen to their customers but only those who are married, have children, want a "modern glam look," whatever the hell that means, and work out enough to bring their phone with them while exercising!
Damn that's a lot of negatives so far. So what can Samsung do between now and launch to earn my money short of releasing their ultra premium version that was supposed to exist but doesn't, and calling this one the S5 Neo? Let's take a look, and please, feel free to help me add to this list!

I also know it isn't up to Samsung on this, the carriers are the ones being douchebags about it, but Samsung put their foot down with them previously by stopping them from dictating all the individual revisions when they launched the SIII, making them all the same shape and size, so why can't they force their hand on this in the sake of making even the smallest group of their customers happy - those that truly use the phone for what it was meant for!
Negate the 16GB version - this is obvious, why the hell is this even a thing anymore with Samsung.... just get rid of it if you're not going to slim down this ridiculously large ROM of yours! Ship with the 32GB at minimum and announce the 64GB as well. iThings do this as a standard now, and while iSheep love to keep their music on their device and we have this little thing called external storage and another little thing called Google Music, we don't have to, but seriously, cut the crap and ditch the 16GB model!

If you aren't going to let us root the thing AND aren't going to launch it with more than 16GB, let me get rid of the damn Kids Mode. Or the health features. When looking at pics of the camera settings on the S5, I'm able to download more features as I see fit - why not make some of this crap downloadable and not don't ship it with the device? Sounds like I'm asking for a lot here, but really, I'm asking to not be forced a lot that I really won't use. And before you comment that if I don't need it, don't buy it in the first place, there are so many things I love about my S4 and TouchWiz that I'm not planning to part with in order to have "a phone," my N7 has a purpose and it isn't so I can keep the screen on when I need it just by looking at it. It does great for playing movies on a trip but not for letting me change the channel of my big TV when I want to watch a blockbuster movie....
Ship with at least the S805 processor for crying out loud - if you're not going to blow us away with something new and powerful, at least ship it with the very latest processor this time from Qualcomm. The 800 has been out for months, the 801 is obviously an incremental update over the 800, and the 805 isn't that much better, but at least give us the goods instead of just going along with the same processor found in the N5 and G-Note 3. I don't think we've heard which one for sure will be included, but from what I've read, so far they say it's the 800 or the 801. EDIT - it's the 801, confirmed by Qualcomm....
Include wireless charging in the box - I shouldn't have to say this, wireless charging is now old technology, the SIII had the capability but not the attention or love needed for Samsung to just release the official cover, the S4 cover took 3 months to post online for sale, and with all the competition shipping their phones with it included, why aren't we able to get it without paying $50+ for it? I used a 50% off coupon to get it for $25, but that's $25 more than I should have spent after being let down on a promise that the SIII was supposed to be able to do it on a phone with nearly useless internal storage....
Sell us some legit accessories this time, namely a car dock - I'm always impressed when people recognize me from my review on the only working car dock for the S4 since Samsung decided to screw around with the whole thing and make my Infuse dock useless. It worked on the Skyrocket and SIII, and would have fit the S4 except it wasn't possible to get the thing working properly by charging and outputting dock audio on it, so it's collecting dust in a box right now. Sure, I get it, you want to sell me something new instead of letting me use the same one for my last phone, and that's different than what you are doing (or didn't do?) with the wireless charging cover, but in this situation, you're not even selling me one! The S4 sold tens of millions of devices, did you stop and think that maybe ONE of them would be going in a car and being used for playing music or navigating that owner safely from one place to another?

That's all I got for now, I'm sure we can come up with more and while I highly doubt Samsung is listening to people like me, one of their 200M customers (I'd like to think I counted 4 times for buying 4 iterations of the Galaxy line), there's always a chance someone is listening. I bet they'll listen when they're trying to figure out why the sales figures are going to be monumentally lower this go-round, that's for sure!!!
A note to fanboys of all kinds, Samsung, HTC, Nokia, iThing, etc - let's keep it clean here, please. You haven't heard me bash anyone else here, even Samsung really, so please don't get this thread locked on me. I'm sure you have witty comments like Nokia and HTC have today, with their "Samesung," "Buyers Remose," and even the most original ones like telling me that you're disappointed or this phone is ugly.... As if we haven't seen those comments before. Be original if Samsung isn't, post something relevant to the discussion if you're going to post at all! I don't waste my time on writing this stuff to insult others, so don't do it to insult me. If you were never considering buying it, you don't have any reason to comment on here because nothing you're going to say will come across as helpful to myself or others. If you were considering buying it or even, dare I say switching from another brand, or actually will be buying this phone - let's discuss intelligently your reasons why!

In Slovenia in past month we have major electric blackdown becouse of mother nature - no internet no nothing.. but FM radio did work.. on my S2 I could still listen what is happening, but on newer device.. bljah.. must have tool which cost them 1 euro cent per device..

I agree with all you say. Particularly about wireless charging, and accessories which get launched with fanfare and then never see the light of day. The other thing they could do is to put one of the new gear items in the box too. That would be a good sweetener. Lol.

How do you know it doesn't ?
Two points here:
1. I see you are American, and that in the US the carriers **** in their customers' heads when it comes to freedom. The international S4 has an unlocked bootloader, it has been like that since the original S.
2. The Snapdragon 805 isn't available yet, sadly.
And why isn't 2GB of RAM enough? I have 300+ apps here, 9 accounts syncing and available RAM never goes below 700MB.
I'm going to point something out to everyone here that wants Samsung to get rid of security features such as locked bootloaders or Knox.
We are the minority. Do you Expect Samsung to tailor to us and risk the average consumer's information and safety so people can run an AOSP build or a custom kernel?

While I'm not excusing the US carriers for doing this, but why do you think they try to steer people away from rooting and unlocking the bootloader? People mess up, brick their phone, and then try to do a warranty claim on them. They're protecting their profits, and as a business you cannot blame them for that. Anyone else here would do the same thing to retain profits. And what do you mean "use the phone for what it was meant for?" The phone is meant to be a mobile multimedia cellular device, which in fact still does on the software it ships with no problem.

You can disable features you don't need. But just because you decide a feature you think is useless or unnecessary, does not translate to everyone else will think this too. I like the kids mode feature, I've got kids and nephews that get my phone somehow all the time.(Anyone with kids can attest to that too! ) I'm sure people will love this feature.

This is Qualcomm's area right here, ARM cpus are following the development of x86 cpus. Meaning it's reached a point now where development for ARM cores is slowing down, tremendously. We probably won't see any groundbreaking ARM cpu's come out for maybe at least a year or so now, took x86 cpus years to show good and cost effective performance gains.

Sell us some legit accessories this time, namely a car dock - I'm always impressed when people recognize me from my review on the only working car dock for the S4 since Samsung decided to screw around with the whole thing and make my Infuse dock useless. It worked on the Skyrocket and SIII, and would have fit the S4 except it wasn't possible to get the thing working properly by charging and outputting dock audio on it, so it's collecting dust in a box right now. Sure, I get it, you want to sell me something new instead of letting me use the same one for my last phone, and that's different than what you are doing (or didn't do?) with the wireless charging cover, but in this situation, you're not even selling me one! The S4 sold tens of millions of devices, did you stop and think that maybe ONE of them would be going in a car and being used for playing music or navigating that owner safely from one place to another?

I do agree with this, but also at the same time there are 100s of other companies making accessories that Samsung does not make.
Samsung is not going to tailor the phone just for one person or a small group, they're doing it for what they believe are the best choices for their devices. Looking at their track record of the Galaxy line up, I'd say they've got it down pretty good.
Why do u need a 2k screen on a 5" device? It eats battery life, it bogs down cpu and gpu performance for something that your eyes can't notice. I cant even see a pixel on my s4.

1. 5.2" inches screen in body-size of S4. It's not too hard if they look at LG G2.
2. Radio FM, and playable via loudspeaker.
3. Good camera in low light condition.
4. Smaller bezel, by aluminum.

When kitkat was being written all the engineers had to use a smart phone with only 512 mb of RAM.
This will be moot tho with TouchWiz which is the most bloated god awful software on Android. 2gb IS enough yet the s4 still suffered from lag.
With the newer processors not being available yet Samsung should have focused on design. They put zero effort into that. This will be their first flop in the galaxy line. And by flop I mean by their standards. It will still sell millions.

I have minimal lag here, but even Nexus can lag, it's not just TW or Sense.

this is so true. people just want a better spec sheet not realizing going above 1080p will actually lower benchmarks particularly with the s800 and 801 being the only SoC available now. To get something you probably wont even notice you will be sacrificing just about everything else performance wise.

Come on It was a pretty common bug on the s4. I have a Samsung tab note 10.1 and it lags considerably.
I've had numerous HTC phones over the years and sense has been toned down quite a bit. sense 3.0 was a system draining nightmare.
I really don't think you can compare a straight android ROM to A samsung rom and say with a straight face this makes no difference on performance or lag.
Just compare the size of a nexus 7 rom to any s4 rom.

Sure, the Note 10.1 is slow, but the problem isn't how light or heavy the ROM is, the lag happens because the Java-based Android Runtime isn't a optimized as iOS, for example.

It's actually dalvik at runtime. Dalvik virtual machine and kitkat is optimized quite well.
When you add a huge amount of code on top of that of course it will change the performance.

Actually that's a matter of opinion. My nexus 7 2013 and HTC one run as well as any iOS device I've played with. And they're of course other factors such iOS locked down system, boring home screen, no widgets, tiny screen etc.

After learning that Oneplus were making the decision to announce and then launcher the (ok it's a nice phone) Oneplus 5T after just 5 months? I've never heard of that happen to a flagship which wasn't a complete failure and had as much going for it as the 5 does?
The Oneplus has pretty much disappeared from all locations where it was available, which means there can't be that many new devices out in the wild anymore if any at all, do you think if kept in decent condition that it could be something of a collectors item in the months / years to come? Maybe going a bit far with the collectors item thing but you know what i mean, like a niche piece of kit that you can't get hold of no more.
Just a thought, because unless people had the money or an upgrade in that time frame, it just wasn't going to be available and now it's gone?
Compared to the 3 and 3T the 5 and 5T are in a unique situation it's a slightly different form factor the finger print is on the front and it retains the capacitive non on screen buttons batterly life is every so slightly better than the 5T.
Everything else is the same so true I can definitely see a few anti 2:1 bezeless phone users prefer the one plus 5 form factor. Although i probably wouldn't go as far as to call it a collector's item. The main blemish on the OnePlus 5 is the jelly phone screen thing aside from that i can see a manufacturer offer both models and both selling reasonably well. With jelly phone screen i think it might skew to the newer phone, it doesn't bother me personally but I know there are people that see the affect all the time and that could get irritating. I on the other hand either don't see it or just got used to it.

Cellphones dont work like that. Even the legendary device of the HD2 only goes down in price.Phones are not something to collect as unlike others things they are already outdated by the time we get our hands on them.

They did the same thing with the 3 and the 3t. If any were gonna be collectable it will be the stars wars version or the other limited versions of the device and even then the price will still go down.
As for caliber of device. It is still a mid range device really. Nothing too special.

Point I'm making is, the release time was so small, now it's not being made no more, it's not even close to a year.
Any idea how many units were actually made?
A limited edition Zippo only has 250,000 made sometimes less, no how many they sold / made but it's definitely a niche phone now.
I would agree that cellphones don't work like that. When a new model is out, the previous one takes the "second hand status", in which people will be interested in, but only at a super low budget.
Then you have to keep in mind that OnePlus is an "unknown" brand. See all the reviews on specialist websites, all say it's so great but look around you, it's Samsung and Apple, cause people don't read that.
And if we think that OP phones are special for developpement community, also take a look at how people around us don't even change the default wallpaper that their phone had when they turned it on first time
To get back on subject, that's why it's actually terrible that OP releases a flagship so fast, it just kills the value of what we do have in a flash. And there are already rumours of the OP6 coming in march (and any rumour about One Plus phones is nearly always true).

Maybe we base out caliber of device on something completely different, I personally go by performance and stamina, along with a few other things.
The Oneplus is not mid range, the Snapdragon 600 series devices are mid range, the Oneplus is 100% high tier, price no but performance and hardware yes.

I agree, I'll not be getting the 6, it's HTC for me all day long from now on, unless something groundbreaking comes out, couldn't go for Sammy again, they're dead to me, their OS is just nasty now, doesn't even feel like android no more.
I know what you mean with their release timing, but I think they've overshot it here surely, 5 months? That's insane, and for a device which is over the mid range bracket at £507 with shipping? That's not cheap to only be told that in 5 months it can't be bought no more?
I dunno, I had a thought and thought I'd put it out there, collectors item no ok that was a bit far but definitely a niche product (popularity aside)

Yeah.
And to add to those thoughts, one might buy let's say a Samsung Note 8. It cost twice the price of the OP 5T, but you get the top of your brand of choice for a year. If you try to do that with One Plus phones, that will cost you more than that over the same period.
And your Samsung will probably still have a great resell value...
I like OP phones, but to me, they are really doing a terrible thing to their fans here.

Yes mid range. Price means nothing where I am. It's all about the hardware for me a day one plus is always missing g a few things to put them in the top tier.

lol ok so HTC who always make a flag ship device which is always has been comparable in price to Samsung ( I'm assuming that's what you're comparing it to) HTC usually misses a few features out, LG again top tier, again missing things not in others, can't see your point mate.
I know what you're getting at but I disagree wholeheartedly.
The oneplus is anything but a mid range device and in many ways it's superior to flagships like the S8
more ram
more internal memory
faster CPU and better utilisation of said chipset, better use of battery and stamina than the S8 /S8+
dual cameras
fastest charging on the market
Where is the oneplus falling short?
SD slot? water proofing ? stereo speakers ? None of those features makes a high end device.
All of the other OEMs are missing the same things, not to mention that Oneplus listens a lot more than the other OEMs.

it won't but the screen will evolve, the back of the phone had always been by majority unutilised, either way you can be sure that it'll never stay the same, things evolve or people get bored and even if we didn't, companies believe in evolving and ever changing so it'll happen in some way shape or form, hopefully for the better and not just for change.

Yes, if you have an S22. But you don't. Other models will have when Samsung decides they already can.

Samsung enabled multiple Users only in OneUI 5.0 beta, but decided to remove it from the stable builds. So it is not available for any device as of now.
You can, however, enable Work Profile using Shelter app, and along with Secure Folder, you'll have 3 different user profiles on your device.

Multiple users will use more storage space and will likely impact battery life and performance.
Nothing's for free... try it, but I wouldn't do it.

As far as I understand, only one user runs at a time. All the other users are in a frozen state until they are logged in to.
Yes, it does take some storage, but only minimally. If you install the same app on multiple users, the app by itself doesn't take any additional space, because an app can be installed only once in a device. The app only gets a new data folder (in the multiple user environment) when installed in multiple profiles.
So you get to have an isolated environment with each profile, which can actually be beneficial in terms of performance and battery life. For example, I create a multiple user called gaming where I install my games. I don't want these games to run in the background and send me notifications. So until I login to my Gaming user account, all of the games remain frozen and get activated only when I login. Had I installed the games in my main profile, these games could keep running in the background checking for updates, sending notifications, downloading ads, etc.
So contrary to what you think, multiple users can actually save your phone's battery and improve performance since apps installed exclusively in multiple users do not run in the background until you login to those profiles!

Hard to say without trying but it's not an optimal setup. It likely will impact battery life and will complicate reloads and maintenance. I never use it even on PCs.
A better option is to buy a good used or reconditioned phone. Lol, the N10+ is a prime candidate; lots of bang for the buck. Two phones means complete physical isolation and one drop or firmware/hardware issue won't take out both users.

I do it on every single device I own, both mobiles and laptops. Unlike Desktop OS, where multiple users continue to run in the background, on mobiles they don't. Only one user runs at a time.
The Work Profile is a special type of multiple user with a very distinct advantage: it runs concurrently with the main user, so you can get notifications from both profiles and app launches or files access from either profile is very convenient and fast.
My Samsung phone is the only phone where multiple user isn't present, so for the time being I'm managing with Main Profile + Secure Folder + Work Profile.

Easier and much more convenient to carry one phone than two. This is just in line with what you say about having a microSD card slot being better than an external SSD.

I did look for N10+, but couldn't find one. Besides, I'm not too much into colour accuracy that you keep talking about. The new A54 comes with a dedicated microSD card slot that supports upto 1TB. So if one has to get one, then it makes sense to get the newer model, even if it is not a flagship of its time. That's because all N10+ unsold in the market would have battery concerns by now. The N10+ tear the A54 to pieces. Build Q isn't there either. Form factor sucks.
Finding a good vender can be challenging. New ones are still available from a known good vendor but the price is double that of a used one. However it would be loaded with Android 10, not 11 or 12. That's a big bonus. If you don't care about the OS version just cover your six if you buy a used one. Test the hell out of it when recieved especially the display, cams and modem.
The N10+ can easily last 4+ years with only batter replacements as needed if in a good case and if thoughtfully used. This one in my hand has over 8k hours on it and it is in perfect condition including the display. It's a gorgeous work horse.

The issue is about battery. Batteries degrade faster if not put through charge/ discharge cycles for extended periods of time. In this case, that's pretty long time of about 3 years.
Buying a new phone and then getting the battery replaced shortly after is not something I like doing. I really hate opening up phones. Most service centres do a thoroughly unprofessional job.
I'm not looking for any phone now. Already have plenty.

Which is why I'm still running N10+'s. Samsung is dead to me.

Buying a new phone and then getting the battery replaced shortly after is not something I like doing. I really hate opening up phones. Most service centres do a thoroughly unprofessional job.

On a heavily used optimized N10+ it's about 2 years. It's simply not worth destroying one of these over a degraded battery failing, routine maintenance. If buying used I wouldn't even worry about it... not a big deal. A worn out or damaged display though is.

Guesstimate. It's likely more at 9k hours. This device sees a lot of use. It's needing it's second battery replacement now. Probably do it myself this time.

Please don't single out Samsung. You're pretty much ruling out every smartphone brand out there based on this criteria.

The problem with used phones (or anything used) is you never know what kind of abuse they may have gone through, whether all parts are original or not, etc. I personally don't consider this option just for peace of mind.

Well that one one reason I paid $700 for one 1.5 years ago. Plus I wanted to avoid Android 11 at all costs.

Likely not. Probably use iFixit. OEM ones were/are made in Nam. Don't buy a used battery on ebay... yes, they are doing that.

Don't know as I never owned one and haven't really looked at them hard yet. Like you I got enough hardware right now. More a curiosity at the moment.
At least Sony is trying harder than Samsung. Sammy's gotten too big for his britches.

I did consider Sony before getting my S22U, and it was easy to rule it out. Apart from availability (and therefore post purchase serviceability, spares, etc.), the phone by itself did not come across as a good competition in the market. No wonder they limited their sales to Japan only.
Whenever we talk of flagships, the entire premium is primarily for the cameras. Sony's phone cameras were no match for Samsung or any of the other flagships. The hardware was good, but their software was weak. And they were way too overpriced. I too do not know much about their implementation of Android, so couldn't import one with so much uncertainty (there were no demos available to check out).
All that said, you still have a good 3+ years to buy another phone. Over this time, you have to accept the reality that microSD card in a flagship phone isn't coming back. Sony, like LG, could possibly wind up their smartphone division too by then.
Fortunately, 1 TB variants are available today with many brands, so local storage should not be an issue. You'll have to start a new backup plan for your files, as dual drive option isn't coming back. It is quite easy to setup a sync mechanism that automatically backups up every user file on your phone to another device of your choice, wirelessly and real-time basis, WITHOUT internet, provided both devices are connected to the same WiFi network. So your 2nd device basically mirrors (if you want it that way) every user file you create on your main device.
Brands like Realme/ Redmi are bringing 1 TB variants for much less price. You can debloat them (i would never use an online service for this; you should seriously reconsider this too) and they become solid devices for their price with superfast charging speeds, excellent battery life, etc.
Sony's are more a pure Android flavor I've read. As for Samsung's direction with their cam technology... I'm not impressed. Once they went beyond 12mp sensors they were off the rails.
Expandable storage isn't dead but some people don't have it... oops.

All I know is their phones consistently take the best pictures among competition. That is all that matters. What you're saying is also true for Pixels and iPhones.

Yeh but are they faithful images or AI reconstructions? Either way no more than 20mp sensors are needed. Their marketing hype is completely out of hand now.

Maybe you do but not me. I'm living the 1.5tb dual drive dream. My old Dell Latitude is a 4.5tb dual drive. If Samsung fails to fill this gap their competitors will. New ones will also rise to meet the demands of consumers especially if existing companies fail to do so.
Android scoped storage exacerbates the problem by using even more of the internal memory. So even less available storage space now. Much less bang for the buck. Play with a N10+ sometime side by side with a newer flagship...

The moon shots are an exception.
The cameras on the S22U are really very good. This is true for all the lenses. The telephoto lenses do quite some magic . You have to experience it to understand it. They (cameras) are pretty much the only reason why I bought this phone last year. My OnePlus 8T otherwise had everything else I wanted.

I think by now I have already tried explaining this multiple times, but you just don't want to accept this fact. When time comes for you to buy your next new phone, you'll see the truth in my statement. You'll have to choose between a premium flagship and a phone that supports microSD card. Having both would mean two phones, not one.
