LCD Density... Requires Root, right? - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

just curious... would love to drop the lcd density a bit... 4.5" screen is big enough to make a huge difference.

Yes it does require root.

Bummer... I rooted my Dell streak day 1, so couldn't remember what did and did not require root.

What does LCD density do?

there's a before and after picture HERE for the Galaxy Tab.
There's a pretty good explaination at that link too...
It's worth noting that the Galaxy Tab and Vivid have the same Pixel Density (240) you you can expect scaling on par with what is shown in that link.
Personally, I think i'd be happy at 200, maybe 180...
I ran 140 on my Dell Streak (800x480 5" screen, stock density of 160) and it was great!

you should be able to change the density with temp-root though

[Q] HTC HD7 Screen

Hi All,
after the launch yesterday i'm quite excited to pick up my windows mobile 7 at the end of this month. But i have a question, will the htc hd7 screen be the same as the HTC HD2? if so why?
How would you compare it to the IPHONE 4 screen?
Also, o2 UK are releasing HTC HD7 on the 21st Oct, is that the case with TMobile UK too?
HD7 has super LCD screen. HD2 has standard TFT LCD. super LCD is comparable with SUPER AMOLED screens.

Where you getting that info from, the HTC site doesnt say anything other than the size of the screen and the res.
Disapointed with the specs of the HD7 compared to the HD2, they look pretty much the same bar less buttons and WinMo7...

yes practically identical. HTC retained the form factor because HD2 has been so successful - so why change? and besides, the HD7 is supposed to offer really good GPU which HD2 is sorely lacking

Your thinking the newer smaller CPU (45nm instead of the current 65nm) which has some different GPU in it, for now the CPU in the HD2 and HD7 are the same as is the GPU, if WinMo7 is tweaked for a certain spec then we could see more performance from the same hardware but the dual core/better GPU chips will probably be mid next year now..
Even if we get dual core CPU's with better GPU's by the end of next year, I doubt Microsoft would allow devs to fully utilise those specs, making launch devices useless (and consumers angry). Plus devs have to make their apps/games compatible with the lowest spec device to be able to make money anyway.
Regarding the OP, the HD7s screen is supposedly a standard LCD TFT screen according the Slashgear who have an article comparing the HD7 with the IP4
"Furthermore, the HD7′s display is just an LCD TFT display, and in today’s age where we have Super AMOLED displays, Super LCD, IPS, and especially Retina Displays, it just doesn’t compete. That doesn’t mean that the HD7′s display is bad in its own right, but comparing it to the iPhone 4′s Retina Display just shows how far back the HD7 is when it comes to displays, even if it is huge"

the better graphics in not because hd7's GPU (it has the same as hd2 ) but becauseof the good graphics drivers supplied by microsoft and that what htc couldn't do for long years , that is why all wp7 devices have same processor , as drivers are supplied by microsft not the the manufacturing company
So basically then there are what you could call reference phones in the same way nVidia/ATi release reference graphics cards..
We now have to sit back and wait a few months until all the OEM's start tweaking units and get a bit more creative...
What the different between QSD8250 v/s MSM8250?
As I know QSD is 1st generation while MSM is 2nd generation using smaller semiconductor Technology which is 45nm than 1st generation which is 65nm.
Beside this, 1st generation using Adreno 200 GPU but 2nd generation using Adreno 205.
From spec, it seems MSM8250 better, at least it use newer GPU.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snapdragon_(processor)
and HD7 not for O2 only.
Singapore is launching it next Thursday (21-October-2010)

IPhone 4 not the highest resolution phone

It would seem that contrary to Apple's claim, the Galaxy Tab is actually the highest resolution mobile phone ever with a resolution of 1024x600.

although i don't like apple, but i think what apple claim is having the highest Pixel density, which is 326ppi (pixel per inch).
have you screen size tho? it makes a difference. looking at a 55 inch 1080p and 32 inch 1080p has big difference. atleast i notice it with my TVs and i also have the iPhone 4.

..but what he means is that Galaxy Tab has phone functions(SMS, calling), the iPad doesn't.
1) Apple's claims the iPhone's 4 display is "highest-resolution phone screen ever"
http://www.apple.com/iphone/features/retina-display.html
Which means that according to Apple, there are no phones with resolution above 960x640.
2) The Galaxy Tab, with it's 1024x600 display is fully operational as a phone. It has a proper SIM Card, it's own number from the carrier, SMS/MMS, voice and video calls. And even a stated talk time of Up to 28 h (2G) / Up to 25 h 30 min (3G).
FYI
960 x 640 = 1024 x 600 = 614400

Its as simple as that. You could've at last done some math before creating a topic about this. And anyway the pixel density of the tab would be comparable.

Well, with there being two phones with the same resolution means the asertion that Apple have made in their UK adverts (that is the highest of any phone) is not valid.
Time for a quick letter to the ASA
That might be true... but it's still great resolution screen overall. Although i saw the screen on the EVO and it looked even better but i don't think it is
Does Samsung market the Tab (Yes, Tab, not Phone) as a phone? No. iPhone 4 has the highest resolution in a mobile phone. Even though Samsung Tab can be used as a phone, it doesn't mean it automatically can be considered as a mobile phone. It's marketed as a tablet, and competes with the iPad. Not the iPhone.
If i attach or intigrate call function in my 42" TV, it doesn't automatically transform into the worlds biggest phone.
but iphone it's magical!
That's true! (Not)
yeah I have iPhone 4 and I am really satisfied with its high resolution.

sorry, we are talking about resolution and pixel density. n8 is kind of a fail at this because it has only 640 * 360 resolution.
lol read this on CNN - seems like this applies:
Definition of Fanboyism:
Remember that "Leave Britney Alone" kid? Yeah, that's what you look like when you get into vitriolic fights in the comments section about how your Droid Incredible is so much better than the iPhone 4. (Source: CNN)
And I think my screen on my Craptivate looks nicer (color/brightness) - but teh iPhone 4's clarity is a lot nicer.

[Q] Streak 7 Resolution and buying advice..

Gurus,
I have a Streak 5 and am wondering if streak 7 is good with respect to resolution 480 x 800 like 5? I have seen a couple of reviews where screen size and low resolution of the streak 7 makes some pics and text look pixelized. So owners of streak please advice.. Would it help me if i changed the dpi to a lower number and get more screen landscape? or not..
Would resolution matter soo much if you chage the dpi? Please advice.. and help greatly appreciated..
If it is good.. i want to jump on it for the dual core and looks..
I think the screen is great given the price and feature set... the Streak 7 is a real diamond in the rough...
I really like the streak 7. It's my first tablet and I have read a lot of people complain about the resolution. For me, for that size screen it's fine. I dont see it pixelate or anything like that. I also play Dungeon Defenders but its one made for the tegra 2. I also have it on my mytouch 4g and the difference is crazy! on the streak 7 it's console quality! The only complaint I really have with it is the battery life. people complain about the res but come on it's a 7 inch screen. I think on a 10 inch screen or bigger the resolution would be more noticeable but on a 7 inch screen it's just fine.. people just like bashing it.. because well.. it's dell.. lol

+1 I dont think it gets the credit it deserves because of the dell bias.. I think if some other company released the same thing it wouldnt have gotten such horrible reviews.. I read engadgets review but then I started reading other engadget dell reviews... they always have something bad to say about whatever they are reviewing..
plus once this baby gets honeycomhb then we will see the real power of the streak
Turning a sidekick line into a ds7. Was worried about screen resolution, but everyone here isn't worried so I'm gonna take the plunge. Best tablet for the price considering the tegra 2 processor

After you flash the new upgrade with the tweaks included, you are HIGHER then any other device on the quadrant scores. I reached 2200 last night. Which OEM defaults only gave about 1500. So yes, Monster madness, Crazy Snowboard, Dungeon Defenders, all play like a PC quality game. Its very nice.

I make and receive phone calls just fine using Google voice and sipdroid. It works with the speaker/Mic or ear phones/mic
well actually i wanna use it in India where 3G is still initial stages and price sucks.. moreover google phone and sipdroid wouldnt work here..
I would have said get the Galaxy Tab as it has a better screen and a longer battery life. Also more support here and also can be made to make phone calls. While the streak 7 has very good specs its screen resolution hurts it and makes it look dull next to the Galaxy Tab.
I think your experience will depend on what you are looking for. I don't really notice a difference in graphics, as I am not trying to watch HD movies (lower res movies are ok on a 7" scree) or edit photos. I am happy with the streaming content I have seen so far, global-tv in canada and youtube.
The only drawback I see on this device is the battery life, which has been much improved since the update and that you can't charge it via your PC. Otherwise this has been exactly what I was looking for. On a bang for you buck, this seems to be the best on the market for its price, given the 4G, SD card, "future" upgrade to 3.0 and overall quality.
A very happy streak user.

err what nfc? that's a good reason to upgrade
plus:
-10x better gpu unlike nexus' adreno / shared cpu
-the screen is not pentile so you don't get blurred text
-5 point multi touch unlike nexus' faux 2 point
-tv out
-bigger battery
despite all of these, i still wouldn't get a nexus S
i would go for the galaxy S 2 or wait for a new nfc phone

It's different enough. I certainly notice it. However, if my husband hadn't bought me my NS, I would've probably just waited for the Nexus 3 (or 4G, or whatever they end up calling it). I will say that the NS is blazing fast and I do love it now that I have it.... I also STILL LOVE MY N1 though...(and I'll get the next Nexus phone and love that one too.....
@OP Don't listen to anyone (even me) get (or don't) what makes you happy and what's right for you.

lol not sure why you are getting your info from anywhere BUT moto and google...
Is AMOLED burn in still an issue nowdays?
no
It will indeed have an AMOLED display. Screen burn in is something that I have personally experienced and it sucks. A few weeks ago, I went into a T-Mobile store and saw some LG phones on display. One of them, I believe it was the Flex, had the biggest burn in I've ever seen. A widget had literally burned in the screen and covered almost half of the display. It was noticeable everywhere on the phone, except on really dark images. I'm hoping this phone doesn't have this issue.
Any previous Moto X owners run into this issue?
My biggest concern is readability in direct sunlight. Should I be worried?

I imagine it would be the same type of AMOLED screen though.
I was looking to get a Note 4 for the AMOLED Screen, now I don't have to! This is good news for me.
Problem being, i'm guessing Nexus 6 is using older type of Amoled variants, it will be quite a bit worse then the current Note 4 Amoled, which is the only Amoled screen which i count as competitive (and yet not in the same league) with IPS.

I think it will be fairly good considering the price tag on the device or so I can hope. I had a note 3 and the display was pretty good for a AMOLED so I wonder how it will be.
IMHO Samsung will keep the best Amoleds for them, and they will use the bellow average S4/Note 3 versions (sorry but for me it was bad)
