[Q] Search settings wrong (outside US) - Motorola Droid 3

I did try searching so apologises if this has been answered before.
I recently bought this phone, and it works great (I'm in the UK). BUT, and this happened on other phones with android, is using the search app, and for example typing in amazon, it'll take me to search listings with amazon.com. Where as if I search from my pc it'll give amazon.co.uk as first result. This is even worse for product searches, where it'll return the prices in dollars, I have enabled the "use my location" option in the search settings but still to no avail, it seems in the browser there's a string that has US, where I want it to be GB, or at least use the GPS and realise I want UK prices. I tried editing build.prop but nothing. Any ideas?
example when I search using hotkey from the desktop: www dot google dot com /m?hl=en&gl=us&client=ms-android-verizon&source=android-launcher-widget&q=amazon
Maybe if the hl=en&gl=GB it'd work as I want?

Did you install morelocale 2?

Thanks this worked straight away! I never thought I'd need to install a specific app just to have my location changed.. I'm assuming this changes some config file somewhere in the phone then. Is it a bug with Android because my friend also said he has the same problem.

Well, the droid 3 only has english and spanish settings. This means that it will also USA phonenumbers e.g. 581-102-1233, so morelocale is needed to fix it. (for the netherlands, at least). It will make apps/browsers etc think you're in xxx country

Ah, does the morelocal2 download extra settings then? Because yes my phone numbers are displayed correctly now as well. Strange because the phone was never meant to be used outside the US

I don't know exactly. What do you mean it wasn't mean to be outside the US? It's a global phone - just by verizon

I meant it wasn't sold in the UK or anywhere else in EU, I had to import mine. But yes I know it's a global phone, just not globally sold

I know but morelocale 2 is not droid 3 specific - it's for android, so it doens't matter that the droid 3 is not sold anywhere in the EU

Ok just discovered an inconvenience with the dialer. Got uk settings but it wants +44 on my phone numbers.. otherwise it just adds + to the last 7digits resulting in failed call. Any suggestions as I don't fancy changing my entire address book

App that spoofs carrier codes for Market?

I had a little app that would change the carrier code sent to the App Market, so that it would think you coming from AT&T, T-Mobile, or a bunch of other carriers.
I flashed my flash, and now I can remember what the app was called! I do remember its icon was a little green lock unlocked on the left side. Can someone help a brother out and point me in the right direction?
Thanks!
Market Access
The app is called my market.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Thanks for the suggestions, but neither of these is what I had downloaded. The app I was using was black-themed, had three tabs, and let you apply different 6 digit carrier codes. It didn't access the Market itself. You still used the Market App, but the third option at the top was no longer AT&T... it was "downloads". It would also allow you to backup values, etc.
Anyone?

Market Enabler (another Program) and Market Access BOTH do this, however, Market Access allows for you to spoof on Boot, so that you essentially only need to spoof once.

Please from now on, use the search tool on the forums. I found the answer in 2seconds by searching "Market Restrictions"

Thanks Dave, but I was using the search function (and google) quite heavily with no luck. The key word I was missing was "Restrictions". I was using things like carrier codes spoofing, market carrier, etc and spending a lot of time looking in the different Markets themselves.
Thanks for the link, but I'm not sure the scolding was necessary.

You've probably found it, but I think you are looking for Market Enabler.
It's icon is a green "ME" in front of paper bag. It has 3 tabs: "Actual", "Settings list", and "Set custom"
Thanks for the suggestion for Market Access warri, it'll be nice having it happen automatically.

May I enquire what app is it that you are trying to get by appearing to be on another carrier. I installed my market and it did allow me to do this, but looking around and pretending to be on another carrier did not reveal any great sounding apps at all. Most of what I saw was bloatware, or apps to check your account information, and look for things like the WiFi hotspots for that carrier. What is it that you are wanting to get, that is unavailable to us AT&T folks?

No worries.
One thing I do remember is that MoreLocale 2 wasn't 100% simple to set up, although I can't remember off-hand what I had to do. I'm currently messing about with ROMs on my phone rolleyes but once I get it up and running again I will try out ML2 and tell you exactly what I did, just in case that makes a difference.
EDIT:
OK, so I opened MoreLocale 2, then hit custom locale at the top, then set my language to en and country to GB. If you click on the ISO639 and ISO3166 buttons next to Language and Country, you should get a full list and be able to choose the country that you live in. Then it might actually be able to format your phone numbers properly.

[Q] Where are my Sprint apps?

Ok, I know that this is kind of weird "problem" to post about here, but my One doesn't have any of the Sprint bloat/apps. I suspect it might be because my Network Operator Name in the About portion of Settings is "HTC" instead of "Sprint". I'm running viperboy's stock odexed 1.29.651.10. My wife, who also has a Sprint One, is running 100% stock and has all of the Sprint crap and her Network Operator is Sprint. So is this because I'm running a rooted "stock" ROM? Or is there something else going on? In any event, I kind of wanted to check out the Scout navigation app and it apparently isn't on my phone and certainly doesn't show up in the Play Store when I search for it or under the Sprint category. How can I get my phone to believe that it is a Sprint phone? I'll worry about freezing or ripping out bloatware I don't want later, I just want the choice!
Where did you get the phone? It doesn't sound like it's a retail device.

I got it at Sam's Club from the retail phone guy. I should add that everything else seems to work fine: Play Store access including paid apps, make and receive phone calls, 3g and LTE, wifi, GPS, etc.

A lot of the "stock" rooted roms still remove bloatware apps. Check the rom's thread on here and see if they were removed. Sometimes the bloat apps are still there, but moved to a different folder. That way, you can add what you want.
There was a thread on this a while back. I believe the general assumption is you got an HTC demo unit. Its htc branded as opposed to sprint branded. No issues save for missing sprint apps. If you take it back, theyll exchange it for the simple fact its branded htc. Just ruu first. No need to exchange, though.

I kind of wondered about that. I don't think it's really worth taking it back just for some carrier apps I'll probably end up pulling out anyway. I wonder why there seem to be so many demo units out there being sold as retail? Maybe the initial supply problems?
I dont know man. Maybe they got shipped out in retail boxes beforehand and some sprint stores never put them out on display and got them mixed up? Thats a mofo of a coincidence if so though

Further research
I've poked around a little more in my system files to see if there is any reference to Sprint and found a few apks in /system/app: SprintDMS.apk, Sprint_Worldwide.apk, SprintInstaller.apk, and SprintZone.apk. If I try to install them using ES File Explorer, the installer runs and warns me that they are system apps and tells me about permissions, then fails with the message "App not installed." (Well duh, that's why I tapped on the apk....) So at least some of the Sprint stuff is on my phone, but it is dormant somehow. Is it possible that I just didn't get activated quite right after rooting? I sort of remember something called Hands-Free Activation running for several minutes on the first boot after rooting and cancelling it because it did not seem like it was going to complete. Maybe that has something to do with it?
You (or someone) changed something in your dialer settings. There is an option to turn off sprint branding in there. When you were on stock did you have any sprint animations when the phone booted?
You just have to change one setting to fix it if the problem is what I think it is.
easy fix...
1. install nova launcher
2. with nova launcher now set as launcher hold on homescreen to create new shortcut.
3. select new short cut > activities.
4. scroll down the list until you see "Update Device"... click update device then look for a "Branding" submenu.
5. Click on "Branding" and you will make a "Branding" shortcut on your Homescreen.
6. Click new "Branding" shortcut and set Branding to "Sprint"
Thank Autoprime for posting this fix. All your sprint apps will come back too. If that doesn't fix it PM me.

Just found this thread (not sure how I missed it when I was searching and reading thread titles before posting my thread). It is full of people with varying degrees of the same "problem" I have, but for some of them significant things are missing, like mobile network settings and so on. The fix is basically flashing the RUU and letting it download its Sprint package a few minutes after connecting to the network after that, then rebooting. I'm backing up all my apps now to give that a try.

Alright, I flashed the RUU, updated the profile and PRL and ... got the Sprint icons on the second home screen to show up! But mostly they are just links to the Play Store and the items are not available for my carrier as my carrier is still HTC. Does anyone know of a way to force my phone to get reprovisioned entirely? Maybe that would help....
And now confirmed not a demo unit, just a regular old Sprint One. So it must be something with how it got activated, right?

[Q] Nokia 530 Cortana newbie

Yep, all of the above settings are set. I did note that when setting up the phone and often after a restart it defaults the date to 1st July 2014 so I've had to manually set the date. The sim, phone and account are all new.
Im assuming that I should see an application called Cortana listed. The particular feature I'm after is the quiet hours feature of Cortana.

Set the phone to US. It restarted a couple of times and downloaded various language packs but no Cortana.
I cannot see Cortana in the app list or anywhere to enable it in settings.
Im well versed with IOS and Android including rooting and fiddling with Cyanogenmod so am not a total numpty when it comes to Mobile devices but due to being a Windows Phone newbie I could be getting something basic wrong...
Thanks for your help so far.
Woohoo.. Got Cortana working by fiddling with the regional settings. I've now got the phone set as A US phone and it's now working. The language for the keyboard can stay as a UK keyboard so the £ appears correctly when typing. Weather reports in Cortana show as Fahrenheit and not centigrade but I can live with that for now.
I guess this means that Cortana is not fully supported on my phone in the UK yet?

Posted this over on reddit but should have asked here first. My Note8 has officially received Oreo ota update 2 days ago. One of the features im looking forward to is the GIF Keyboard. My "Messages" version is 4.4.10.13 and "Messages Service" version is 4.4.10.4. Looks like that is the culprit and Samsung forgot to include the latest messages version in the Oreo firmware. I haven't done any adb sideloading in ages. Will just wait for Samsung to fix this. Thanks for the input.
I have gif working on Samsung keyboard on the Note 8
The gif keyboard is integrated into Samsung keyboard and allows anyone you use it. The gif option is greyed out if it cannot be used, for instance typing on a browser.
I am using Verizon Note 8 on the Oreo update. I use Verizon messages and I have stock messaging app is disabled on my phone. Gif works fine in my messaging app.
So I would say messaging app not related. Maybe clear cache/data for Samsung keyboard.
Another note, for a fresh run I did factory reset my phone in settings after coming to oreo. Old habit when upgrading to new big builds from my rooted days. Figured I'dgo in fresh. All is working. I used smart switch to backup and restore to save time before and after reset.

This is correct, it has nothing to do with the Messages app, it's a feature of the Samsung Keyboard app. Gif was available & worked fine for me with Oreo.
Check to see if you guys have Samsung Keyboard v.3.0.10.34 installed. I have that installed on Nougat & gif keyboard is working fine (although it's useless to me, I never use it or stickers either).

Hmm, that's strange. I wonder if it's CSC/country related? I've used XEF & TMB CSC & both had gif keyboard.
If you go to languages for Samsung Keyboard in settings, do you have English updated/downloaded? If not it will have a down arrow next to it, if it is it should have a toggle next to. I'm not sure if it might be related but if English is not fully updated swipe & predictive text don't work on Samsung Keyboard. Just a thought, worth a try.

Thanks, I appreciate it! I actually happened to check the languages today and English was already up to date. I agree though, I'm starting to think it's maybe CSC related too. I'm on XSG.

Damn, hoping it might have been something simple.
Hope it gets figured out. If I get a chance tonight, I'll flash XSG CSC & see if it disappears for me.

Thanks, me too! If you have a chance to confirm when you have time that would be great, at least we'd know for sure. It's not crucial, but it seems like an odd feature to restrict. I'm curious...

Yup will do & will report back here.
You know, I remember seeing something a while back about gifs & fair use. If that's the issue it would make sense for some countries to not allow it but then again IIRC there were reports of people in the US on certain carriers not having it. Usually when carriers disable a feature is cause they offer their own paid service. I doubt carriers would have their own gif feature but if they do & that's the case, that's unbelievable! Greedy SOBs.

Ok, I tested & unfortunately it appears that my suspicion of it being CSC related is correct. With XSG CSC I don't get the gif keyboard.
I found online that mostly AT&T users are complaining that they don't have gif keyboard. Some are thinking that AT&T forget to include it in their update/firmware. Well that's not the case as it's CSC also. I installed AT&T CSC & sure enough, no gif keyboard either.
I wonder why some countries and/or carriers choose to disable it. I went back to T-Mobile CSC & have gif keyboard again.
Are you rooted?

Ahh, there we go! Thanks for testing and confirming shouren, much appreciated. Definitely seems strange that some carriers will allow but not others.
I'm slightly embarrassed to say I'm not rooted lol... I've rooted and modded every Android device I ever owned, and specifically got the Exynos Note 8 so I could continue doing the same here. Strangely though, I bought it and then never really felt a need to root yet. I don't even know who I am anymore...
When I do eventually root though, I might as well apply my carrier's CSC (Bell Canada) and hopefully resolve both root and gif keyboard at the same time

No problem. Ah ok, if you were rooted, I was gonna say I'll dig around in the XSG CSC & see if I can figure out how to get gif kb to work. I think I have an idea of what to change but I'd have to test. But since XSG is not your carrier's CSC, doesn't matter anyway.
Since XSG is not your carrier's CSC, might as well change to XEF CSC? I know gif kb works with XEF. No root needed, may wipe data though if that matters.
