No memory card slot a turn off!? - HTC Sensation XL

Hi guys, I really like the look of this phone, and I'm thinking of getting it. But the only thing that is putting me off that there's no memory card slot, so no expanding the memory!
Just wanted to hear your thoughts on this? And does it really matter?..

If you like the phone then it doesnt really matter, I was the same with afew of my previous beasties but internal isnt all that bad

I suppose it is though dan, when you finally run out of space? I now hear there's less than 10gb of memory after all the preinstalled stuff! :s
I think htc failed!

To behonest on my gs2 i never used the sd card. Dunno why. Managed ok

You could hang fire a little while we get S-OFF sorted and a more stable/less storage ROM, could be the answer

I would suggest go the cloud way if you have decent 3G/H network in your country and easy data limits

v-b-n any chance you would start cooking for the XL now?
Remember to use your roms as my daily drivers in the HD2 times and simply love it.
Sorry for OT guys.
The cloud solution is surely a way to go, cant get more conviniet than that, well maybe except XL 32GB or SD card slot ;0)

[Q] Root and SuperUser

I've been searching around the internet and also XDA looking for a solution but came up with none
Has anyone been able to successfully root their HTC Salsa?
With any method at all??
Or is HTC going to be pushing their unlocked bootloaders for this officially as well???

am also considering getting a xtc clip but it's pricey and i'm just hoping someone has come up with a method to root this phone
really want to get this phone s-off and rooted
need to move so many apps for my gf from phone to SD
sigh....
Same wish here... no sense having an android smartphone where you can only install a few apps. My GF bought this as replacement for an x10mini pro..
Salsa is a very cool little smartphone but... 123mb of free internal storage seems a joke. Install maps + street view, skype(on SD), vtok (because it has not the latest gtalk and can't make videocalls) and you are done.
I would definitely donate for some development.
to be fair i got rid of my desire as i got bored with after rooting and then s-off, i spent time on getting the most out of the phone but then felt what else can i possibly do to this phone, I moved to blackberry bad move then got the mini x10 pro too and felt the phone was a bit of a joke and only got the salsa cause it seemed pretty similar to other phone and has a dedicated button that can hopefully be remapped, The internal memory is pants but it does let you move apps to sd card which saves graze

it does allow movement of apps but not everything
and that's annoying me so much
i hope some developer of the alpharev team come up with something at least
dont really need custom roms on this and just the basic s-off and root
I keep getting low memory remove app. This sucks. This really could have been a really nice phone. As is its either going back or second string till rooted.

it is quite a hopeless phone, at least the cheaper phones can install their apps to SD cards. Android is sucks . I think I can explore something new, but salsa make me think that I wasted my money on the DUMP PHONE: SALSA
Please have some methods about it. I'm getting crazje!

that depends on the type of andro apps installed some of them can be moved to sd card but not all (go to application settings or run wizard to dump cache/move apps to sdcard)... if only they put 1GB memory it would be perfect
s-off coming soon to htc sensation perhaps next build will support salsa
NOTE:
you may also force unmovable apps to SD card thru ADB, applicable only apps resides on nonROM apps
I was just wondering if anyone has heard any more about a means by which this phone can be rooted. Really, it's pretty much worthless as a smart phone until it can be rooted. You install 4 apps and you're out of memory, meaning email apps stop working properly, the phone runs slowly and text messaging becomes problematic.
I spent good money on this phone and it does nothing really that my old one couldn't do. Make calls, send texts and use 2 or 3 apps at a time max.

Question Open Zio Revamped

I tried to post this in the thread for the Open Zio Revamped but it wont let me since I dont have enough posts yet. lol Anyways on to the questions.
First off when I install my apps and try to move them to the SD card they disapear from the app list after I reboot. How can I stop this from happening?
2nd When I get a call from sombody sometimes it has the wrong picture for a contact. I had this problem with Open zio as well though.
Thank You
Well i have been doing some research and this happens quite often apparently. What causes it is the loader boots up before the SD card is scanned. So when I force close the ICS loader and open my app draw they appear. I cant seem to find a way to change when the loader will load up though... I would like to make it load a few seconds later to give the sd card a chance to scan first. Does anybody know of an app or anything that can do this? I have looked and cant seem to find one.

I can confirm the wrong pictures on phone calls from time to time, but the sd card problem i havent personally experienced...
Sent from my LG-P509 using xda premium
I have found a work around other than force closing ICS. I downloaded an app called FMR Memory Cleaner that cleans the cache of a lot of the system apps including the ICS Loader and so when that is done ICS then pics up the data from the SD card. I think it could be possibly the SD card is slow to read for one reason or another because I did notice when I had Open Zio before it would often either take a while to load all of the apps though they did load or the Loader would crash and when it reloaded then the apps that were on SD would show. Although this has happened with both of my SD cards it was more noticeable on my 8 gig one. If anybody else is getting this issue I hope this helps until I or somebody else finds a more permanent fix for this what seems so far to be a one of a kind issue lol.
Ohh and when I said it happens quite often I meant throughout all androids not just zio or with any particular rom. Just to clear that up.
I haven't tried open zio yet. I'm contemplating it though cause I have a larger problem and like you I can't post where I need to yet. I need to enable usb debugging but can't access settings.... or much else.
You mean its not available in the settings any longer? Or the settings crash whenever you try to get in them. I probably cant help but if I get time ill try to look up your issue and see if I find anything. What did you do before that happened? Have you tried resting the phone back to the base setup?
My phone is 2.2.1 from Cricket and I also have one contact that shows the wrong picture too. Could it be a sync issue or a google server issue?

I've personally had alot of problems with SD cards that come with the phones that I've had, I don't know what it is with them but when I change to a new SD card my problems stop( in particular the T-Mobile optimus t was the worst) . Have you tried reformatting the SD card? Maybe that will help.

yeah reformatted and re installed all my apps ( i did a full copy of my sdcard just in case i had something i needed to save, but didnt copy it back to the sdcard)
Still having same problem
Its a known bug in the 2.2.1 build, it's nice to see that someone is trying to keep the Zio community going... Mine has a bad battery and I wanted to get a better phone anyways since there is no chance the Zio will ever see cyanogenmod or even an AOSP gingerbread build.
If anyone can prove me wrong I'd donate for the effort even though I don't use it anymore...

RAM managment

guys i know you all heard for this app (Ram manager pro)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smartprojects.RAMOptimization&hl=en
but, i bet lot of you didnt notice a biiiiiig update...now you can swap your RAM on your internal, the fastest partition in our device (not even close to sd card class100)
but, im not sure about it, and i ask for help from developers or android wizz that know this method...
i noticed that this thing works, but, after you swap, you dont have space left...so, iv got partitioned my sd card, only to 256mb, just to check...and it really works again!
Again, but, you need to create swap file right after flashing fresh rom, so it (swap file) occupy internal memory at once! Cause, if you instal some apps, it will use sd ext, and probably go to sd card, wich doesnt make any difference in performance...
Once again, im asking for opinion of expert, to confirm this...
Im using latest jb4.2.2, and best way to check this is to play some game and to listen a music at same time : DIDNT GET FC OR ANY LAG!
tnx in advance
NOTE: don't create swap bigger than 128mb, thats our max internal
Does it really works? Because i used to swap too but it didnt make any difference in performance. The only thing i notice is my phone got hotter alot.....

Tried this last year .....the script was made by custdroid.....
Unfortunately the constant read and write on ROM is not so good for the hardware.. ...so I deprecated the project for mini also with such low internal memory I could create only 32mb swap on internal and the phone soon started yo take its toll ...you may try this but I am sharing my experience cause it may feel smooth for sometime but it reduces the life of your mini considerably cause ROM is supposed to non-volatile unlike RAM which is volatile...

How do you handle not having external memory?

Hey guys, I am currently on the rezound and most likely going to the One. I was wondering how not having any external memory has been for you guys? How do we handle it? Uhhh..... just like you guys do. It's not nearly as big of a deal as you people are making it out to be. I actually feel sorry for you guys with garbage external micro-sd cards. Writing a movie to those things takes forever. I drag and drop files and they take seconds. Enjoy being left in the past. Just like those kids crying about not having a removable battery. Boo hoo now you can't play Candy Crush Saga for 13 hours straight.

Thanks for the straight forward answer. And for not being rude about it. I only have a 16 gig SD card anyways, I don't like having a whole lot of things to filter threw on my phone anyways. I haven't read anything online about how the storage works on phones with no external memory so I was wanting to know.
As far as flashing roms and all, is there a small allocated amount for the rom to write to? Just trying to understand it more that's all.

I didn't want to start a new thread for one simple question so I figured I would ask it here. My wife just asked me a question I have not thought about so I would like to know if anyone can answer/test it for me. She asked if she got an htc one and her phone would not boot up after awhile of having it, if she can still get the pictures/videos off the phone to transfer them to the computer. Or would she lose the pictures/videos? We are expecting our second child in December, so she doesn't want to risk losing new pictures of the baby. Can anyone test this for me?

I am not sure if the phone completely died (what I assume you mean by not boot up) if it would still be recognized by a computer to get to the photos. However, every picture I take with my phone is instantly transferred to my Dropbox account, so I never worry about losing anything. With proper backing up to a computer and managing Dropbox (for example, take pics, they are automatically synced to Dropbox, at some point transfer the same pics to your computer, then delete them from Dropbox so your Dropbox doesn't fill up), the chances of losing anything are slim.
Hope this helped....
Yeah, she is on her 7th phone now, so she very cautious and worried that her next phone will have an unreal amount of issues. She isn't one to have a whole lot of steps to achieve something.

I don't think we can install apps on the SD card yet ):
The OS is unix based, you can create symbolic links in the internal memory to point to the External SD card. These links tell the OS to look in the location you specified whenever something requests that folder, pretty much seamless.
There are other tools that have been developed which automate some of this for you, if you are not comfortable typing in a terminal window.
There is already a thread about this, conclusion is that mattiad is not going to be doing an internal2external mod, been using his mod for years and I asked him, told me that without the device in his hands (probably donated as he isn't going to be buying it) it isn't going to be happening, mount points and code are different from the s3 apparently.
I've personally been using folder mount, it's a paid app but allows you to mount the larger games and apps found in android/obb or anywhere from one location to another.
Upped my memory to 5GB from 2GB, I've got about 4 large games and around 100 apps installed so it does work.

Root will happen and there will always be a way around things, the problem Z1 users are facing is a lack of dev's to accomplish these things. Just compare the note 3 forum with this one, huge difference.
The camera bug has obviously played a part in this but it's causing irreparable damage to the Z1 community and has probably put off some dev's we could sorely do with.
Hopefully it'll change withe new releases but as time goes on i'm losing faith to be honest.
