[Q] CWM - Failed to mount /recovery

I just rooted and got everything up and running again. I have ClockworkMod installed and I am trying to do a backup now, but I get an error. Here is what it says during/after the backup:
SD Card Space free: 7568MB
.
Backing up Boot.....
.
Backing up Recovery.....
.
E:FAILED to mount /recovery ( Block device required )
.
Can't mount /recovery!
.
END
What could this mean and what can I do to fix it ? I dont even see a /recovery mount point.
Please advise !
Did you do it using IOMonster's root pack and install CWM using his zip? If so, you can try flashing CWM through ROM Manager. I'm having the exact same issue and nothing is working for me, but most seem to be able to flash CWM through RM and it's fixed.

Yes I used his CWM zip. I have tried via Rom Manager and get the same result's. The only thing that is different is that IOMonster's recovery is using 3.0.0.5 and When I installed Rom Manager it downloaded 3.0.0.7 but then when I tried a backup via CWM the recovery changed back from 3.0.0.7 to 3.0.0.5 Not sure what thats about, but I dont see any reason why it cant find or mount the restore dir.
Im lost :O( I need to make a ROM backup !
I am in the exact same place you are. IOMonster says he's uploading a new version of his root pack tonight that will include a new flashable CWM. I'm hoping it'll work for me. If not, i'm going back to stock and rooting with autonooter to see if that fixes it. Did you root with IOMonster's root.zip? Or just his CWM?

Help! Install from zip problems

I'm kinda stuck now. Ever since I installed cm7 rc5.3 I cannot install from sd card - anything. It cannot open any file when I try to install an update and only message is (BAD) Installation Aborted. Therefore when I tried to install rc5.4 I couldn't!
I don't want to flash through odin again cos thats the whole point of not having to wipe data etc on this new rom (hopefully). Before anyone asks, yes I have tried to unmount and unmount sd card and also toggled signature verification etc etc

You know whether this works or not, its a fantastic idea. I will try and let you know!
Well flashed cwm 4 through odin with no results, however I think I already had cwm 4 anyway cos couldn't install cwm 5 because of same installation problem. However now it has allowed me to install cwm 5 and after reboot recovery still this same message with rc5.4
Code:
Finding update package. . .
Opening update package. . .
E: Can't open /sdcard/update-cm-7.2-RC5.4-GalaxyMini-Release-signed.zip(bad)
Installation aborted
I'm gonna try and redownload. Perhaps the download waas corrupted halfway through. I tried through a different sd card and still no results.
Edit* Think I've found the problem. I knew something was up as soon as I visited the download page. The 2 file sizes were completely different so something happened with the first download of rc5.4 so hopefully now (fingers crossed) everything should be fine! =)
Edit2* However it's not all fine. When I downloaded, it only downloaded 95.2mb instead of 95.3mb and the last time it downloaded it only downloaded 33.9mb. Does anyone have the full file perhaps they can upload elsewhere?? Please, I've been waiting a week to flash this =(
so i think cwm is not responsible for the error the problem is you have not downloaded the package properly
ok to find the problem delete maket, youtube app and try to flash gapps package after mounting system and data if the package get installed then cwm is ok. and redownload the package

you can do
-wipe data
-wipe cache
-install zip from sd
-choose the zip of the CM7 rc5.3
then try to flash again the cm7 rc5.4
Kilobyte differences may not mean a file is corrupted. Try comparing the checksums of the file with software like this:

your idea of checking md5sum is good but donot unestimate a single kb suppose if the update binary is not there then cwm will not install the package

I have tryed to flash many roms, 2.2.1 2.3.1 2.3.5 .2.3.6, (JVT, JVR, LPY, and new ones) always same issue: "E: failed to mount /data (invalid argument) and then bootlooping.
I`m sure my mmcblk0p2 is broken, question is how to force delete this partition or flash rom in to external SDcard!

Have you tired using a pit file?
flash a stock rom from samfirmware.com with ODIN.(eg. jw5)
to extract the password is "samfirmware.com"
tick repartition and use 512 pit file(included in rom from samfirmware).
check youtube for "flash with odin" if u dont know how.
edit:u are trying to flash from from samsungs 3 recovery.u need cwm(clockworkmod) to flash.
go to CF-ROOT(for i-9000) thread and follow instructions and read all in the OP(1-2-3 posts)
again u need ODIN to flash it.
hey
there is the best wasy to do that...just go to sammobile.com
there sign up first and then download the firmware (in firmware tab) and flash-programs...
the make sure to use oidn3_v1.0 only...
you can also download the flash-guide if you need it...
its simple..
Thanks to everyone for replays, but nothing helped me x_x
if i flash 2.2.1 or 2.3.6 i receiving this error:

If i flash 2.3.3 or 2.3.4:
https://www.box.com/s/f09fd945620c03daffa9
And then it keep showing me GT 9000 logo......
yes i used 512pit and using 1.82 odin
I know there is way to install in to external SDcard: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdMhYYdMB08
I had such error and successfully installed rom in to sdcard but i had issue with phone signal, so tried to re install rom and now its keep teling me cant mount data..

Yep, keep shows only gt-9000 logo..
I had a very similar problem earlier this year.
From what I could see the partitions on the phone's internal storage weren't able to be accessed. In adb I tried using parted and rm but the partitions there (/dev/block/mmc/blk0) didn't ever change. I also tried various .pit files and Android versions through Odin but nothing worked.
I took my phone in for repairs after flashing a really old version; as close as possible to what it came with, and they fixed it. The repair was due to 'mechanical fatigue' according to them. I assumed the internal storage was some how broken or corrupted and couldn't be written to.
Not sure, if you manage to solve this.
From you screenshots I can see you are using 3e recovery. I would suggest you to flash a kernel which support cwm recovery mode.
I have heard peoples getting this error while using it on 3e.
Captain_17
Yes Captain_17, i have exactly same problem, cant give it to repair since purchased it from abroad.

3e recovery because i`ve flashed 2.2 and 2.2.1 or any other official roms, i can flash CWM easy but as Captain_17 said i can see but cant touch
files or partitions.
If flash CWM then phone will boot to CWM only, and i cant flash any rom from CWM because i cant copy files to internal storage and external (sdcard) cwm doesn't see it.
Sorry man, wish I could be of more help. I tried every available option I could find online but nothing worked.
Seems to be a hardware problem and replacing the damaged part is the only solution.
Silly question, but you ticked re-partition? try flash 2.2.1 or 2.3.3 with 512 pit and repartition
Also, you could try to flash Darky ressurection via odin, not completely stock rom. I know that this is just tweaked stock, but you could try do that.
And, you could try to use Heimdall instead of odin - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196179
I have read somewhere that heimdall is more preferable than odin in some cases.

[Q] cannot root

i just purchased an HTC ONE and was successful in unlocking and installing TWRP..whereas i flashed TWRP via fastboot...
when i rebooted into recovery everything was as good as expected but ran into a problem installing superuser via recovery..
when i start recovery and i come to the start screen,,,i click on install but cannot access the superuser.zip file..it does not find the superuser.zip file...and if i try to browse for that file it will not let me mount the storage,,,it will only let me mount the internal storage where the superuser file is not located...
when i click on "install zip from sdcard" it shows E:cant mount /cache/recovery/command as well as
E:can't mount /external_sd
i have tried to install different recoveries and they seem to work fine but i get the same thing when i try to install superuser.zip
it seems to me that i am not able to access that specific partition where the .zip files reside
hopefully i am just overlooking something simple but i've been round and round and cant seem to work it out..
i have had an evo 3d in the past and successfully unlocked/rooted/and installed ROMs before so i am not what some might call a newbie at this..
BTW,,,,i installed Hansoon2000's HTC One All-In-One Toolkit and started to tinker with that as well..there is an extra where one can sideload a ROM so i figured i'd try that to see if it would load the superuser.zip.
it found the package,,opened it,,,installed it,,copied, fixed permissions, symlinked and showed the installation as complete..but alas no root...
any help would be greatly appreciated

Try using the toolkit to sideload a Sense-based ROM, they come already rooted.
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
what is the point in that ,,,,if i wanted to install any rooted apps i would not be able to..
there has to be someone with this same issue..
it seems that i am not able to get superuser to install to the correct partition

My thinking is that you wouldn't have to install superuser.zip - the ROM has it pre-installed already. Where /what folder have you saved the superuser.zip you're trying to install? Also, try clearing cache/davlik cache

i have my device unlocked and TWRP successfully installed
i put this file (Android_Revolution_HD_Root_and_BusyBox.zip) on my thumb drive and tried to install it from OTG but with no success..when i do that i lose my recovery and have to reinstall that via fastboot
i just tried the AIO toolkit again to reinstall TWRP and to have it install the superuser files...
everything goes as planned but after the TWRP install it reboots onto fastboot where i am supposed to enter recovery,,,but when i do it says that i am entering recovery but never does,,,therefore it will not install the superuser files..
the only other way i can get a successful recovery install is if i flash one via fastboot,,,but then i cant find a way to install superuser ,,once i enter recovery when i click to install a superuser.zip file i cannot find the one i placed on my phone ...
in the video tutorials it shows that when i chose to install the superuser.zip file i navigate to the download folder,,,,but there is not such folder.
i placed the superuser.zip file on a thumb drive and navigated to it and clicked on it to install,,,it said that it installed but it didnt,,,i assume thats because it needs to be placed in a system folder
FINALLY !!!!
OK,,,i finally got it all wroking,,,i think,,,,,LOL
i followed the instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2236620
come to find out that the partitions needed are hidden and are set so where one cannot write to them...
alot of digging allowed me to stumble across this...
