Just ordered a Galaxy Nexus - Off-topic

G2x was a great phone, and despite LG's various fails it was corrected by our devs. But, as a fandroid, you have that little voice in the back of your head making your life miserable when there is a nexus annouced, or even better hardware for that matter.
I just bit the bullet and ordered an unlocked GN. $696 and some change, including shipping and bank fees. God help me, this android addiction is getting out of hand
It's the GSM flavor, imported of course. Who want's to deal with Verizon and the mockery they have made of the Nexus brand? F*ck you Verizon, Google - I am disappointed in you for being Verizon's B*tch The European GN is the true Nexus.
Any other fandroids out there want to join me?
MOD EDIT: REMOVED LINK
It is just a pre-order for now, but stock is expected in 2 days. And if your cautious, handtec is a reputable vendor, pay with Google Checkout and your butt should be covered

The Droid RAZR is $649 off contract, add tax and your looking at an easy $700+ It's 16GB as well, only difference is the lack of an SD card slot on the GN Oh well, it's not that bad - my galaxy tab doesn't have an SD card slot either and that doesn't bother me at all

I paid around $600 (after tax and all that) for my Vibrant off contract. The fact that this is penta-band and allows you to use it with any carrier is definitely a plus and if you pick good no-contract plans, you can easily come out way ahead of getting a subsidized phone on contract.

I never got the "I'm leaving because I got a new phone" threads. I could understand if you're a developer, but as a basic user, why should we care?
But hey, enjoy your new phone.

I didn't really post as a farewell, it was to reassure anyone who was planning on switching to the Nexus I never left, and I plan on keeping my NVFlash Guide updated even after I do

I wont make the same mistake again, i will wait a couple of months after it comes out, see development, then maybe buy one. Got g2x on 4/20 early in the morning and even tho i got a good phone, NVIDIA (dumb asses) really are holding devs down.

Why do you guys insist on writing such a stupid comments "Why are you posting this"
"We don't care, GTFO"
Don't you have anything else to do other then to troll the forum?
It's his/her choice. This does not mean that he should stopped posting on this forum and move on to his new forum.
I will be buying N9 in near future and I will continue to see how development of this phone is moving forward as well as participate in discussions.

I was going to make fun of you for having an EDGE only phone.. then I looked at the 4g icon on my G2X which equates to EDGE speeds despite claiming to be connected to 4g....
Can I have your old G2X? Mine got scratches on the screen on day 2

The way it works is you sell the G2x for $200. Use the money and pick a contract phone with high resell value. Sell it for the price of the Nexus. Live happily.
The G2x is still sweet. But I'll probably pick a Nexus up on Verizon through work to save from paying a personal cell. Depends on development and issues. I'm still torn.

Omar, I hope the GN goes well for you! I've been itching for one, but I told myself I'm gonna stick with the G2x for a while since for the past 5 years I've been getting a new phone every year, hahaha. I want to see how far I can take this thing.
Plus... I don't think I have the dough to just shell out, lol.

Buying a spare nexus

hey guys!
I'm a looong time lurker here, but now I thought I'll ask for advice
Now that google is phasing out the nexus, is it a good idea to buy a spare? I totally love mine, and am not a big gamer.I just love to tinker
Thanks!
The person who can answer that the best is you really. Unless you planned on using the nexus one for the next 2 yrs or so, I don't think it's a good idea. There'd be so much better phone by year's end or next year.
Hi!
I was a bit vague on my reasons The Nexus is my first Android phone (didn't want an iphone for obvious reasons - closed...), but used numerous winmo smartphones before. I decided on the N1 due to its "openness" (easyly unlockable bootloader, plethora of CMs...)
As I said, gaming is not high on mylist, so 3d performance and the touchscreen issues are not a bother for me. However, in terms of raw power the N1 one is still a lively beast with a dedicated dev scene.
So, to sum up: the N1 does everything for me. What worries me is that today's phones are not built for longevity, and now that the N1's availability is in question (I'm in CEE), I'm thinking of buying another one just to be safe. Or am I just paranoid to think my Nexus won't last 1.5 years??
Phasing out the Nexus? Just because they are no longer selling them on their store does not mean, to me, that they are phasing it out. They are planning to sell them directly through retail outlets.
Anyway, I don't see a value in having a spare. They are easy enough to get.
I will sell u mine
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Won't it be harder to get later? I saw a price hike after the announcement was made - by the retail shops here in Hungary that is...
I wouldn't bother. Within the next 6-12 months there will be a better phone around. Instead of sitting on a phone, get some hookers and coke.
@JCopernicus, been there, done that I think it all boils down to when a new dev phone will arrive ( if ever) from google
wil there be any nexus or something new from google?

Goodbye Thrill!

Well it's been fun, but in the end the Thrill has had too many issues, and not enough support from LG.
I'm going to get a white Samsung Galaxy S3. The specs are incredible, 2GB of ram is the big one for me, not to mention ICS default or Jellybean upgrade! My Thrill slows down too easily after I've put all my apps on it, I usually get down to 50mb of ram remaining or less, I frequently use the task manager, and even then it just isn't cutting it.
I'm going to sell my Thrill on eBay with Thrill Seeker 3.0 & v20p baseband, unless someone here wants to buy it? They seem to average over $200. However the idea is I make as much from it as possible to put towards the credit card payment for the Galaxy S3 (I'll be buying it outright from my work, Best Buy, using their credit card 18 months no interest)
It's in like-new condition btw, I've had a case on it since day one, screen protector as well, there are absolutely no scratches/dings/marks on it.
I know The Dark Lestat is looking for a Thrill...

So yeah, Lestat could use a new Thrill. If you're not willing to donate, are you willing to hold onto it until somebody (like me) can pay for it so we can donate it instead? Honestly, I want to swap Thrills because the bluetooth went out on this one. I really miss using my wireless headset and bluetooth link into my house.

I'm sorry, but eBay or craigslist was what I had in mind. I've posted it for $240 expecting someone to probably talk it down to $200.
Unless someone here wanted to buy it for $200, I'm just using all of it for the payment towards my current SGIII that I've put on the credit card.

Then I wish you the best of luck trying to sell it for that reasonable price on Craigslist or eBay. People are going on there looking for bargain bin prices, not for fair deals. Unless they're looking explicitly for a 3D phone, you're going to be passed up for the plethora of lightly used Samsung SG2s at just a little over your initial asking price that are flooding the markets now (as everyone's clamoring for the GS3 now).
I'm really wanting an sg3 or an htc one x.

Leaving for the S3+$80

Now that I've been successful, thought I'd share:
So I just came up for an upgrade on T-Mobile, and BestBuy.com had the GS3 T-Mobile upgrade for $179.99, so I decided "Why not sell this phone on Ebay while it's still semi-popular and get a S3?"
I called T-Mobile, got an unlock code, reverted to stock ICS, and sold my phone on Ebay for $350. After taxes, ebay+paypal fees, phone purchase+activation fee, I netted about an $80 profit after everything was said and done.
Thanks to all of the developers here for your hard work developing for the ugly stepchild of the SII line! I hope you all do well.

according to some leaked news about the next Samsung and HTC are both making each their own flavour of Nexus 5 phones
the model from Samsung it's going to be slightly inferior to the S3, but slightly better than the S2, and they finally put back the SD card, 4.8" display, slightly faster CPU as the previous Galaxy Nexus, the rest is vanilla
HTC is going to release a 5" version with supposedly 1080 display, instead of 720
it'll be interesting the kind of mess and confusion we'll see when both hits the market
Hey I think after selling my phone outright on eBay for that much I would of just found someone on Craigslist and purchased SIII outright and kept my upgrade intact. That's how you flip 'em.... Good job though and congrats

I somewhat agree with this i did the same. Sold my s2 for $320, was going to be $340, but i was a no show because of urgent matters and i gave the guy $20 discount for his troubles. Anyways bought the s3 for $400. So i paid $80 for an upgrade.
Now if you guys haven't heard. T-Mobile and asurion is cracking down on insurance fraud especially for s3. It doesn't matter if it's lost or stolen. From 1 week to 3 months, the s3 will be blacklisted if it was filed for insurance claims.
How did i reassure my purchase, I actually bought mine from the guy's house, he is actually buying the note to help him transition to the note 2. He was a really stand up guy. I asked him to hold the phone for me, and he did for 2 days. Other buyers were inquiring about it constantly but kept his word (note: the average price for s3 around my area is $450, so it's cheaply priced). He was the one who brought up insurance fraud and stuff, and he was saying how people ask him about that and he told me that's just dumb that people do that just for some quick cash. Told me not to worry that i have his number and knows where he lives so just give him a call or anything is wrong with the phone. Really cool guy, i can tell he's a phone junkie like the rest of us.
Tl:dr; insurance is blacklisting s3. If buying from CL get the guy's ID, address etc, you can judge his character, if it's sketchy, don't bother.

Lol it is, the s2 is generally selling for about 250-280 on average around my parts. So it's even better that i can sell mine for above average and buy something below market price lol.
The benefits of keeping your phone in good condition with all the box and accessories. Plus matching imei number and under warranty until february by samsung. Not sure if it carries over on T-Mobile though.

I'm assuming you're kidding the s3 is fairly identical on all the major carries (besides lte capabilities). I definitely miss my Hercules but thankfully it didn't go far my girlfriend and have our upgrades staggered so I always get the new phone and she gets the hand me down. Now I just might have to sell her t989 give her the SIII and boom hello note 2!!
I was thinking of getting the note 2 or the s3 ...in Ghana here the note 2 is 1,590 cedis and the s3 1,450 cedis, so with the current exchange rate of 1$= 2¢edis that will be 725$ for the s3 and 795$ for the note.. but am still not sure as to which one to buy...its not really about the money but which one will be good. In Ghana its very difficult to buy things on eBay, cos you have to pay too much to get a credit card here and still wait forever for you item to be shipped in....have any of you tried one of these?...can you help me select...

no edge isn't even 3G . Hopefully they roll out the 1900mhz network here soon. I know it's already done in Vegas. They need to do it soon, because it would help them with Iphones as well. They are losing a bunch of customers because of this.
ohhh man thats rough... yeh hopefully they roll out the 1900mhz.... I want you guys to enjoy this gem too
Holy shiiiyit, quite a response, i'm guessing that this phone is something to shout about then, so i'll be picking mine up as soon as i can raise the capital, going to try and get orange care too as it's easily the best insurance.
I'm only a few months into my contract with a standard S3 so i'll sell this beauty and I also have a One X to go too, so should be near the mark when it comes to buying.
I don't mind about the lock on the phone, i'm pretty sure that Voodoo will release something.
I appreciate all of your responses and will thank you all but i only get 8 a day so i'll start from the top.
Many thanks.

Hello there m8, how hope your well, in all honesty i'll just buy it from T-mobile, unless Orange have something i can get.
If not then it's online i go, can't stand flea bay and would prefer a nice long warranty if possible, might wait until carphone warehouse have it, should be a couple of weeks, beginning of November, i'll ask Raffa if he's getting one, he should as i imagine the porting process should be a breeze.
PS: Did you say it's actually thinner?? That's mental if it's true, have they changed the cooling method or something?

0.1/10 made me reply.
That "column" sounds so Apple entusiastic that it brought the whole article down with that, can't take it seriously, nor your thread.
There's already a thread for all the F things related here:

Thank you, I was about to win auction for S5, but now canceled my bids. I will wait until iPhone is out. Hopefully it will support microSD, so I can migrate my over 1Tb music in microSD cards there

well it isn't true its an opinion. As for the Iphone 6 having an ext SD, good luck with that.
If you're always going to be looking at the next flagship release then you will never buy any phone at all.
All I can say is see what the money you have spare can get you WHEN you need it.
I had a good price after bargaining with two operators and ain't complaining.
At the end of the day it is just electronic gadget that's gonna brake eventually. It is not like buying a house for 250 000 or getting married.

THIS! Was just about to post the same exact thing, if you keep waiting around and listening to all the rumors you'll be stuck with the phone you have now forever!
The iPhone 5S was already obsolete on features 2 years before they released the thing, And I can confidently say the iPhone 6 is already outdated because we all know they give you nothing unless they already developed a way to massively overcharge for it.
I just had to waste my time to reply. Every piece of tech is obsolete the second it come out but at least I'm not holding on to an even older complaining about a better phone and thank god I'm not waiting for the iPhone 6, which has been under development so long I can't possibly imagine how it can stand up to the note 4 or s6. Lol trolls are so dumb.

LOL!!! EVERY iphone has been 2 years obsolete when they are released.. That's like their entire mantra because it makes the Jobs-knob-hobbing rubes foam at the mouth for the next big feature that will be obsolete when it comes out. Case-in-point.. the OG iphone was EDGE, not 3G - only a total MORON would design a web-centric, data-intensive phone to use one of the worst data networks in the country.. The 3G was 3G but didn't have video capabilities (which were standard on every other phone released for AT LEAST two years prior), you had to buy the 3GS. It's all part of the marketing scheme.
You see, in a securely guarded vault deep inside apple headquarters is the ultimate iphone that was designed late in 2005. It is IP99 certified, has a 4.8" 8K parallax 3D screen, 512GB of internal storage, dual 3D 4K cameras, a removable extended battery with NFC and Qi, dual SD card slots, yadda yadda yadda. They took that model and stripped it all down to barebones, and released it as the OG iphone. They're simply adding a couple features back each year and releasing "the NEW IPHONE", which makes all the fanboys jizz their collective pants as they line up like idiots to pay the ridiculously inflated price for it.
