A question about the Tilt and Android before i sell it...

I really like the Tilt, but the WM OS is just not for me. I really, really just hate it.
BUT, before i get rid of it, i wanted to know, is there any hope for the near future of running a custom Andoid rom on this thing? not running it within WM, i'm talking about full blown Android stand alone?
Because if thats the case, i might just throw it in my closet for a few months.
if not, it better start packing its bags tonight!
Sorry for OOT, but I have the same feeling towards the OS, bro.
I hate all M$ product so much (make it PC or PPC), but in the end I HAVE TO USE THEM WHETHER I LIKE IT OR NOT.
Just for the sake of compatibility with so many other person I live and interact with everyday.
You gotta learn to face it mate, hence, the frustration. I knew the feeling.
Actually there are alternatives like palm and apple, but only few uses or supports them. Which will make, in the end, worse frustration.

I'm sure it's a question of time 'till a standalone version comes out.

Android will be further down the road but it will be even later when we see a full-blown OS for the Tilt/Kaiser.
Once an Android OS is available though I will be flashing. I cannot stand WinMo either.
Curious but are you going to the iPhone instead?...I don't believe there are any other choices unless you're just going with a regular, non-smart/ppc phone.
Its going to be at least as long as it takes to release the first Android Phone to the general public, once thats done then the platform will open up more and be more accessible to us devs. I think Android is going to be amazing once its up and running properly on the MSM7200 chip set. But your best bet would be to hold on to your kaiser and put it in a drawer some place and buy another phone if you don't like the OS and the GUI that comes with it, if you can afford to do so. I am not a fan boy but if you don't need your phone as a business tool then the new 3G Iphone is the way to go in "MY" opinion (please do not turn this into an Apple VS Mac thread) Bottom line is HTC makes great business phones that they did a great job marketing as a general consumer "media" device which it is in some ways. But if your holding onto your kaiser in hopes of Android making everything perfect then your bubble needs to be burst..

There are many other phones out there beside the HTC and Iphones Nokia makes some amazing phones that would blow the kaiser and Iphone out of the water! Also the new Sprint "Instinct"(i think thats the name) is also a really cool touch screen based device! Soon everything phone is going to be touch screen only, the way that the general consumer thinks touch screens are so High tech and cool....
Apple sold 1 Million phones in 2 days so people must like something about it. Personally if they upgraded the camera and some other things I would be dropping my kaiser in a second for it but I'll wait for the 3rd generation its going to be sick! Last note and I'll stop! Windows Mobile 7 is going to be a radical change for the kaiser and other Windows Mobile based phones so It may be worth it to hold on to your kaiser until that is released
Thanks for the replies fellas. I have been a very happy Symbian S60 user for about 1.5 years now. I bought a Tilt a few months back because i love to tinker, and the Tilt is the Closest competition to the N95, so of course i had to get it. My first and last WM phone though.
My main phone is a Nokia N95-4, and i swap out every once in a while with an N82.
You hit the nail on the head when you say that this is a "i get emails all day, and need to open word documents while on lunch" persons phone. but for me, its so damn frustrating and boring, i want to rip out my eyes. Thing is, take all that away, and your left with a not very good phone.
I just hope there is interest in the Tilt still for someone to make an Android rom by the time it comes out.
All im going to say is that if it werent for XDA-DEV, i would have chucked it out of my window, because the factory HTC roms are for the birds.
Have to comment on this one!
well, first of all i'm not sure our Kaisers can handle WM7 when it comes out. I don't like the current OS we're using and wanna say that i had a chat with a couple of people here on the forums and decided not to get an iPhone (although i still like it) and hold on to my Kaiser and wait for Android. It will take time, though..
I wish i needed a second phone.
I'd love my Tilt even more if the screen was just a little bit better about where i touch it... I do IT for a small company and there are 3 iphones, a lot of junk phones and my Tilt... Tilt does the most, iPhone is the easiest to use.
If you could buy a better screen for the Tilt, I'd throw down an extra $200 on it.
Back to the topic, I'd also recommend saving it, with stuff like this you will never get what it is worth from anyone and if nothing else, you have a tinker toy.
If you dont like kaiser and can afford, u might as well sell it off now. Its nearly an year since its release and that is the approximate life of a handset ( in terms of specification) .Futher down the year htc pro will be released, with better specs and that handset will be better suited for wm7 or android. Both these OS may not work great in kaiser. ( but for me kaiser has been the best handset ever ( thanks to this forum and hang.tuah)

Well - obviously everyone sees something from a different perspective.
As a phone - the tilt is no better or worse than any other phone i have had. Remembering of course that cell signals have gotten better and more prevalent over time (I was an original Cellular One customer).
I do support for software so I need access to email on a pretty constant basis - I would have to get to the hotel immediately and check email - I would constantly have to have my laptop with me to check email to see if there were any problems brewing. I no longer have that "attchment" to the laptop. I have a freedom with this phone that I have never had before.
The fact that I can take it to the gym and listen to bluetooth headphones and get my music PLUS!
The fact that I can watch videos on the plane PLUS!
I can text and take and send pictures PLUS!
The fact that I no longer have to carry TOMTOM with me (the unit) when I am on the road and I ALWAYS have TOMTOM with me PLUS!
The fact that I can now whip out my phone and play a game when i am stuck for a few minutes and bored PLUS!
The fact that I can now find the local theater and see what is playing easily or the local Mexican restaurant PLUS!
The fact that I can get weather anywhere in the world easily PLUS!
The fact that I can get/add/change airline tickets easily PLUS!
The fact that I can add new programs to the phone easily PLUS!
So - from MY perspective - this is a drop dead incredible wonderful cannot do without it tool that makes my life better and more fun. It will only get replaced when there is something better available that does it truly better/faster/cheaper than my TILT.
From my vantage point,
Bill
Somehow, i really really doubt that... WM7 might use graphics a whole lot, and our phone doesnt have acceleration... We can just hope people can cook WM7 with drivers... Plus its still 6 months away, android is our best latest choice...

Have to ask, if you have the better nokia phones, why not just link a N810 tablet to your phone via bluetooth ? They aren't bad little devices. Except they run a version of linux. But there are apps that let you do alot of what you need a PPC/Laptop for.

Leave Nexus for Dell Streak?

Anybody going to trade up to the Dell Streak?
I love everything about it (especially now that it's rooted!).
The only drawbacks are the 1.6 version of the OS and that there may be a certain tool-factor when holding that big thing on your face to take a call.
I'm in the US and waiting for the unlocked version to come to this side of the pond the the next month or so.
If it get's FroYo I would be mighty tempted, and T-Mobile 3G bands is a must which I don't think it supports
Ya it's only going to support AT&T. I have T-Mobile, but still thinking of getting an AT&T sim and throwing it in there. Though their new data plans are kind of weird now.. :/
I thought I read that Dell is releasing one with AWS bands as well for T-mobile. That being said, I don't think it can properly be called a "trade up" vis a vis the Nexus One.
I wont. The streak is to big for me. I like something around 3.5-4.0 for the screen size.

How is going to a big tank with Android 1.5 a trade up? No thanks, it's just too big for me, even if it had 2.2. The N1 may not be the absolute bleeding edge hardware design anymore, but it's more than adequate for my purposes, and it's large enough for my purposes.
also guys lets not forget ATT's recent data pricing fiasco.
I dont plan on letting go of my n1 until either some dual core or 1.5ghz processors come out, and i would probably only do it if they had a HW keyboard, otherwise the n1 can/will keep up with all the new phones coming out.

I'd thought about it, but would much prefer a larger tablet device. I'm still waiting for a Snapdragon or Tegra2 powered tablet with a 9-11" screen.
I'll be grabbing one, but won't be leaving my N1 very far away. I suspect I will switch between the two depending on the day. Want something that replaces my smartphone but still pocket portable, and not an addon like a large tablet/iPad, that is very data centric and the Streak seems to fit that perfectly with a 5inch screen. Apparently according to the latest engadget review the Streak gets better battery life than the N1, kind of amazing with the screen difference, maybe cause its 1.6 right now, who knows.
They already have root from Paul at modaco so I would expect that 1.6 will be upgraded real soon, think Dell was already making waves about a 2.x from them within the next month or two as well!
Hopefully its not going to be too much trouble to get one shipped to Canada.
Yeah, same here.
Am staying with my N1 for at LEAST a year.
I managed to hang onto the dying G1 for almost 15 months.
Between learning to root, and flashing all those ROMs, it was always "like a new phone" for me.
And now with the N1, being that it is ALSO a Google released phone, it's like falling in love all over again.
No Streak for me & it's to big. My Nexus One rocks and still feels new
Ill wait for something better and faster more likely a Tegra 2 tablet or smartphone

you my friend are looking at the N700 tablet just like I am aren't you?
The streak is way to massive for my pocket, as cool and impressive as this phone is, it is way to large
*thats what she said?
I'd like to say that I'm not going to get rid of my nexus anytime soon. But, being realistic, I know that's probably not the case. I go through phones pretty quickly. Example: I got a iPhone in 02/09, a G1 in 07/09, a CLIQ in 10/09, and a Nexus in 02/10. I won't get the streak at US launch, but I may get it a little later depending on how it develops. What I'd really like to see though is the streak rom ported to the nexus one.

Very true my friend. I had a Magic before i got my Nexus and was always switching between hero roms and CM roms and it always felt new. Same w my Nexus. I'm just looking for the next thing to have and if enough ppl get behind the Streak then I think it'll be a great (not so little toy)

Anyone planning on getting the Streak 7?

First device launch i have seen that had ZERO posts on XDA.
I guess Dell really messed it up...as it does not look like anyone is interested.
I got mine today and I'm having a blast on it. Looking forward to see what comes about here.
Just ordered one. Will have it in a week hopefully. Lets hope The dev. On this will be good.

I am very interested in it...Trying to see some reviews/opinions on it first before purchasing. What do you guys think so far of it?
I just went and played with one in the store today. I'm purchasing a tablet as soon as my refund comes, and don't want to shell out big bones for a 10 inch. I've decided Galaxy Tab or Dell Streak. I was impressed with the Streak, and with Samsungs update history, I will be getting the Streak. Next week! YES!
I got one after I read all the reviews. I don't think the Streak 7 got a fair shake. I am happy with it. It is fast. It has HSPA+ and wifi tether. I'm not to concerned with battery life. I wish my T-Mo store got more cases for it. All they got in were purple gel skins.
Im stuck I just got the nexus s and I have the streak 5 but streak 7 is fail you can't make normal calls like dell pushed

I went ahead and got it because I got the subsidized price. It's very fast and works great....viewing angles can be tough at times but aside from that, I am happy with it
I got one but I'm probably returning it tomorrow for a Galaxy Tab. Half the batttery life, worse screen resolution and no phone will make me switch to the Galaxy Tab eventhough it's both older and more expensive.
Anyone care to share if you think there will be ROMs that allows one to use the phone?
Picked my 7 up today. 249.00 - 50.00 credit for telling them I got an email with code STREAK4G and -50.00 rebate = 149.00 = Me Happy.
The resolution is fine for me. I found the Galaxy Tabs web text a little too small for me.
So for all who are interested. Have had mine for 2 days now and I absolutely love it. The battery life doesn't bother me much. Getting about 3 hours of nonstop browsing and game playing. The viewing angle could be better but the way I see it means people sitting near you can't see clearly what your doing. Lol
I am a Tmobile customer and just let me say the 4G on this thing is crazy fast compared to my G2 phone. I love the 4G speed on my phone but the Streak 7 just seems to get a better signal. Could possibly be because the antenna may be larger.
If there are any other questions feel free to ask. I will be more than happy to test something for you.
I am going to hold out on rooting it until I start getting bored with what it can do now.

I picked one up...
I picked up the Streak7 on Tuesday. A previous poster commented on the battery life and I have to concur -- But I think I found the culprit -- It's the Cellular Radio. When it's on, it will drop 18-20% in an hour. I really thought the dual-core CPU would be the issue but it really isn't.
I will say this -- It's fast as hell! I couldn't be happier with the speed for launching apps, scrolling, yada yada. You'd sort of expect that with a dual-core CPU, though, right?
I think that same poster made a comment about the display. I have to admit, I'm pretty disappointed. Samsung, I think, I did a better job here. Unfortunately, my Galaxy Tab is on Sprint, doesn't appear to work with Rom Manager and I haven't been able to install a different mod on it yet. *sigh* Oh, how I wish Cyanogen was available for BOTH the GTab and Streak7. Sooo much better than that stock crap they put on there.
I just picked mine up today . One thing I can say its way faster than my vibrant and G2. I just hope I would be abel to put honeycomb on it

I got mine yesterday is cool and fast i love it...............
I'm going to stop by the T-Mobile store today and see how it looks/feels in person before deciding if I want one. Also, I'm going to hold off on any decisions until some honeycomb ports start showing up. Still, it looks very promising from everything I've seen. If I get it though, it will be off contract and I plan on using it on wifi only since I don't live in an HSPA+ area.
Hellzya, Yeah I ordered as soon as I got the email form dell stating they were available. Had been waiting on it I'm pretty excited.

Sexiest Android Phone Ever

Not sure of this had been a topic of discussion yet, but I love my Nexus 5 so much. I think its the smoothest, best looking, and best sized phone I've owned.
I was sad to see the contract go to Motorola..
I wish that I could just upgrade my nexus 5 hardware and not worry about a new phone for years to come..
I recently cracked my screen, which is like somebody KEYED my new paint-job on my Camaro.. Ugly.. And unfortunately, DIY replacement involves disassembling the ENTIRE phone literally..
My B.S. "insurance" I pay for wants a f*cling $150 deductible to replace the phone, which I can't justify doing at this time, since the digitizer still works perfectly.. (And im mega broke)
[emoji4] HOWEVER, I'm nervous that if I don't just go for it soon enough, there won't be anymore Nexus 5's available to replace it with and I'll be stuck with a Nexus 6 or something... (NO notification LED ?? Come on...)
Anyway.. This is the geekiest thing occupying my mind all week.. None of my friends care, or understand..
Thanks for reading..

My Nexus 6 finally Died, and I want to cry.

So, I have had my Nexus 6 it came out... I have always boasted about how ungodly huge it was for a phone, and how amazing it was for literally everything.
I installed ROM after ROM after ROM after ROM and on and on and on...
I showed everyone I met how having stereo speakers facing front with a huge screen put any new flagship to shame.
I loved making the comment that this was the only phone i knew that the speakers could actually get waaaaay TOO LOUD.
This was even the only phone I didnt run at full audio.
If someone was showing a youtube video, or even looking at images I'd scoff while pushing away their phone and whip my Nexus 6 out for viewing or research pleasure.
I found satisfaction and relaxation in rubbing the dimple in the back.
This phone was even the original fidget spinner. I constantly found myself spinning it on a table while talking, listening, concentrating. I'd make designs on the screen with the smudges of my finger.
And now, its dead. One flawed "waterproof phone bag" and its dead. I feel like I am in mourning. Nothing new is any good. They're sleeker, faster, all fancy - but they aren't the Nexus 6.
Maybe the Pixel 2 will be the new puppy I get - or maybe i just get another Nexus 6. It's sooooo ironic that after 2 years, there is NOTHING as satisfying as this phone.
What do you think i should do?
R.I.P n6 T_T . I hope nothing bad happens to my nexus.
@ph0tiC: Buy another one on Swappa.
how long was it wet? fresh or salt water? perhaps the battery shorted? mine took a dunk in the lake with no ill effects. I have a 32g phone that i purchased with a bad battery and robbed the screen when mine broke. . Maybe a motherboard swap could work? Willing to donate. Perhaps a new battery? could do a good cleaning while apart too. Who knows....

I agree, I have been able to save a few phones from drowning by taking it all apart and giving it a thorough cleaning with 90 percent alcohol
Call motorolla. Mine was dead also. Wont even turn on or anything. Called then for a replacement and they cahrged me for $175 before tax mine was 64gb maybe 32 is cheaper. They sent me like almost new conditon. Im happy that my n6 is alive again.

I due an upgrade and have looked at ever phone on the market but none compare to the n6, so I feel your pain
gonna flash this baby to give it a new lease of life, just need to decide what to go with.
Some leftover new-in-box 32gb blue stock just went up for sale on dailysteals for $220. Can't post outside links yet but it's a quick Google away.
My n6 is still going strong but I picked one up as a backup anyway. As far as I'm concerned, this phone is the Android high-water mark. It has all been downhill from here.
