Easy Guide to revert back to S-ON for warranty! - HTC Incredible S

Hi guys, Once again this guide thread comes from the mixture of everyone suggestions and ideas to make your phone S-ON with shipped ROM for warranty!
Collected the following info from the thread, Not my own idea!
First install the ADB and SDK tools and folders, mainly install the Fastboot!
If u dont have fastboot enabled see this http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Fastboot and this http://dottech.org/tipsntricks/21534/how-to-install-adb-and-fastboot-on-your-windows-computer-for-use-with-your-android-phone/
First Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033922 and install the shipped ROM which u had before .
Use this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18079795&postcount=1 to install the ROM, But this alone wont get you s-on when you do the process from the above link, Your phone will be Physically S-On but in the bootloader it will still show you s-off!
To change the bootloader to s-on then you need to follow the steps below,
1 . Now download this file from http://alpharev.nl/vivo_downgrade.img
2 . You should enable USB debugging mode, Turn your phone into FastBoot by unchecking the fastboot option in power settings
3 . Now your device will be switched off Remove your battery and insert it again.
4 . Now press (VOL DOWN + POWER Button) You will go into bootloader menu.
5 . When you boot into HBOOT, The first option is FASTBOOT. You select the menu options using the Volume Up/Down key. Once you select FASTBOOT menu, press the Power Button and it will take you to the FASTBOOT menu.
6 . Plug your USB cable in and the screen should change to FASTBOOT USB. Then on your PC, open a CMD window and change to the directory where you have installed the Android SDK tools, such adb.exe, fastboot.exe, etc. In the CMD window you would type the command:
fastboot flash hboot vivo_downgrade.img
7 . Wait for sometime, Then you would type the next command:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
8 . Now this is a tricky step, You should Select and open the ROM package you downloaded (But dont install) go to C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Temp and at last folder find rom.zip
9 . You need to open the ROM.zip file and extract the file HBOOT.img from it and copy it to the same directory as the vivo_downgrade.img. Then you would type the command
fastboot flash hboot HBOOT.img
10 . Now again, wait for sometime type the next command:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
That's it you are back to s-on with stock !!!
You may check this by booting your device into BOOTLOADER , If it shows S-on, that's all You Performed the steps correctly!
If you are stuck at SECURITY WARNING BOOTLOADER because of missing some steps, Go to this following thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18706124&postcount=6
If you have a faulty USB port shake the usb cable it should definitely work at some angel, worked for me!

if u revert back to s-on to update the latest OTA you cannot s-off ur device again because it comes with a newer bootloader.. To know which RUU you should install, then check with fastboot getvar all to know your mainver
Read my full thread and also this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16684717&postcount=38
Everything is inside those two threads .. just sit and read .. You will figure it out!

Hi Santosh,
Thank you for the update, I had infact done the S-on ( dont know how i managed to do it, i was having the OTA update somewhere, and i run it as PG32IMG.zip and then flashed the HBOOT image file as you have mentioned and voila the S_ON is back. ).
I know there is no option for S_off again, but i have my bet on you dev's.
Is the update for 2.3.5 is released for indian IS user's or any expected date.?
Waiting to see how the performance.

Any tips?
EDIT: After couple of times trying and turning usb debugging off instead of on it worked (maybe helpful information if others have the same problem)

Please elaborate. It was not as simple as just flashing a RUU, was it?
There were other steps involved, but at least there is a method for the IncS to undo the AlphaRevX S-OFF.
How to undo the AlphaRevX S-OFF?
S-ON
This procedure is tested only AplhaRevX.
1. Install RUU ROM from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1033922
2. Downgrade HBOOT
2a. download this file: http://alpharev.nl/vivo_downgrade.img
2aa. Connect your phone to the USB
2b.Turn your phone into FastBoot not to HBOOT!!! (VOL DOWN + POWER Button)
2c. Install over fastboot: cmd: "fastboot flash hboot vivo_downgrade.img" (you must install sdk tools)
2d. still fastboot cmd: fastboot reboot-bootloader
3. Start Installation RUU ROM, but DON´T INSTALL !!!!
3a. go tu C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Temp and at last folder find rom.zip
3b. open it, and copy tu folder sdk hboot and instal the same as step 2c.
Hi,
i tried your method..
but until writing hboot... INFOimage update is bypassed!!
so i mean i failed to flash it rite? anyway to solve this?
Thanks mate it worked!
I just installed the RUU and running stock I think. But reading the above I may missed some steps... Am I on the wrong h-boot now or how can I check this?

Boot into the bootloader. Power your phone off. Then hold the Volume Down Key and press the Power button. On the HBOOT screen it will show S-OFF/S-ON and your HBOOT version.
Thanks. It shows s-on and hboot 1.13. I assume this is stock. But then I don't see the purpose of the extra steps instead of just running the RUU. Can someone explain?

The S-Off feature of Revolutionary was implemented in their patched version of HBoot and it also prevented a RUU from writing and replacing their HBoot with a standard one, thus removing your S-Off status. The extra steps involved setting up the Revolutionary HBoot so it could be overwritten and replaced by a RUU, thus turning S-On and returning you to stock.

How to update to the new HBOOT for S-OFF Users

Ive beaten the system!
back you entire image with backup in cwm4, you can restore the image straight after all this and nothing will be out of place.
firstly you need to create a folder on c: called Android so it looks like this.
C:\Android
in there you need these files
adb
adbwinapi.dll
fastboot
download this >these 3 files, unzip into c:/android
secondly, you need to add one of these this image files to your sd.
>O2 UK
>HTC Europe
>Asia WEE
>Asia India
>Voda-Hutch AU
>Hutch AUS
it holds the newest hboot version for your area or ruu that your running, allowing you access to the unlock code.
reboot into hboot and update it. ( when there it looks for pm11img and it'll say update press up).
reboot again in to hboot.
it'll go through first process again, but don't panic, just press down.
now it should show up with a pink bar at the top of hboot saying *****locked*****
good, now your in! leave your phone in its current state and goto the htc dev site, follow instructions to get code....5mins tops!
unlocked it via the instructions.
you loose everything and go back to your original ruu you flashed with. hence the backup
ok, now goto cmd prompt ( little dos window) and follow the guides shown with cmds for fastboot etc...posts everywhere here and htc tell you on there site.
ok. your bootloaders unlocked...it will say in the top in pink. *****Unlocked*****
now......you need to flash cwm 5.
follow kandeds post to the letter.
there cwm installed.
reflash your backup img to restore everything as it was....jobs done!
and the added benefit that its still s-off lol
now you can hopefully enjoy all the benefits of htc freedom instead of xtc lol.
2 other files as listed elsewhere in this thread are these. (Not tested)

great job, mate. so now the data2sd script works for you ? let me know.
hey hey hey where my credit lolz....?
after our breakthrough of replacing xtc with htcdev bootloader hopefully u guys will get some optimized rom... waiting for bigbear to test few roms for me & i'll also get my hands on a salsa tomorrow...

Yes I , BigBear and a veryfew others were the ones to S-OFF our devices even before the HTC Dev came up with a unlocked Bootloader for HTC Salsa and other devices
So even if you have S-ON no need for the xtc clip anymore...just follow the unlocking thread (in general section ) or HTCdev.com n than u can Root ur phone ...
xtc clip is only and only required to S-OFF the device but now as HTC has themselves given out the unlocks dont bother to s-off
Warning : Updating the HBOOT and Unlocking Voids the warranty

if you need more information about the phone which you think can help please tell me and i'll provide it
Everything u can. Get a pic of your current hboot screen. Current rom, kernel the lot. Post it up. I'll see if I can help. Software/about phone etc.

Pleaee note.....sometimes it will not update automatically via the HTC hboot update...hence my little files in first post.
If you are trying tto auto update via HTC.....stop, try one of mine, add it to your SD,
Boot into hboot and try and update that way. Let me know your progress...get some pics of above mentioned too....

Hi Bear,
Thanx.. I got it at last. What I did was after a few days, I did another check and update Software, then I am able to run from HTCdev. After posting the token I am able to Unlock Bootloader. I have tried one of the roms. Just to check, if we run again the rom, do we need to rerun the App2sd as well? It seems that the partition is missing.. I am actually doing it for a friend..
Thanx..
Regards,
Huzz107.
It depends but normally yes u do have to redo the data script on each rom

Lol.....can u say it? Read title again...for s-off users!
You have s-on.
For you it requires a proper update via htcdev and then unlocking. It will do it.
You may be able to use fastboot...I could but wasn't able to unlock till I has full update, and being s-off I had to create a work around.....which s-on users cannot use.

Referring to posts #14 and #16 indicates user huzz107 with S-ON as being able to successfully unlock the boot loader after an update software to the correct version. The phone I have went through a FOTA update recently to the current correct version as indicated on the htcdev website, I was under the impression this is a proper update just like what huzz107 did. I am now unsure as to what a proper update is

Vivid will not reboot after flash or Juopunut S-off

I was trying to obtain S-off through Juopunut Bear, but after it finds my device and tries to reboot it into its program, it simply doesn't reboot. The phone then will not start at all unless I pull the battery and boot into Hboot. From there I flashed my backup img through fastboot and I was good. I found this thread that said I need to ICS 3.32 firmware. On my phone I noticed I am on Software number 3.26.502.56, so I tried to flash the provided download of 3.32 using fastboot. And it did the same exact thing! Would not reboot, and had to battery-pull and re-flash my backup to get it to work.
What is my problem here?
I am on a unlocked and rooted HTC Vivid running stock ICS and stock Kernel.
I really hope I am not committing a stupid error and wasting everyone's time, but it is possible. Thanks in advance for any help!

If you can get hboot relock the bootloader and run the stock ruu file seems to work for ant errors I've ever gotten , then just go back and redo every thing but s off it should stay off .

Not sure I'm completely understanding you. I need to relock and run stock ruu, then redo everything except s-off? That kind of defeats the purpose, I am trying to s-off

Yes if you are having problems after any mod to the os just relock the bootloader and run the stock ruu file and it will fix the issue , then go back after you got the phone working right and then unlock the bootloader , flash recovery , root , ect .
But the s-off should stay off and you won't have to redo that step .
So basically you will be on a stock ics with s-off
Then just redo the process to get it where you want it .

I'm sorry but this just doesn't make sense, the phone is automatically S-On not S-Off, so it won't 'stay s-off'. You understand what I mean?

did you succeed s-off ?
if you did the s-off procedure via " wire trick " was successful the relocking the boot loader will not change the s-off it will stay off ,
Then relock. Run ruu now you are stock ics with the s-off still , and all the errors should be fixed .
Then just re unlock bl , flash recovery , root , flash New custom Rom / kernel, ect.
All I'm saying is if you have s-off then your good ,
To fix all the errors run the ruu , only reason you need to relock bl is the ruu will reject the install if you are unlocked .

Oh, we are talking past each other. I did not succeed s-off, when it reboots my phone via Control Bear it does not boot into the Juopunut program, and I have never had a chance to do the wire trick! Thanks for the help though.

I had trouble on my first S-OFF attempt. I had made a mistake (I missed one of the S-OFF prep steps in section 2 of the SuperGuide, which is at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416836 ).
If you want to try again?
-If you have relocked your bootloader, flash your phone stock using your appropriate RUU while phone is in Fastboot mode.
*** If you haven't relocked bootloader yet, you can do it first via fastboot ("fastboot oem lock")
-Start at section 1 of the superguide (unlocking the bootloader, yeah it sucks to do the process again but thankfully htc makes it easy!)
-And then you can try S-OFF process again (section 2 in superguide)
I know this is for the Vivid but I have the same problem with my EVO 3D. And Can get any help from anyone over there. I just relocked the evo but dont know the next step. Can anybody help me here?

[Q] Help! Problems to unroot M7_UL!

Hello everyone,
This is my fisrt time writing in this forum, hope you guys can share some knowledge with me. Here is my issue:
I bought a HTC One to a guy a few weeks ago with barely no use. The thing is that I didn´t know at that time that the device was rooted with the MaximusHD. When I realized about it I reset my phone to factory settings and the new 4.3 3.22.1540.1 got installed. Thought it was ok but it is still doing some weird things so I decided to unroot the device to stock, also for warranty porpuses.
The problem comes when I try to download the RUU for my device due to I cannot find it. Should I do it through other method? Do I have to S-off to downgrade and install the RUU 1.29?
My phone is the following:
M7_UL PVT Ship S-On RH
Baseband 4A.17.3250.14
Hboot 1.54.0000
OpenDSP v31.120.274.0617
It is the european unlocked/international version bought in Spain.
I would really appreciate if someone could give a hand on this and guide me in through this process. I was an iPhone guy and now I'm freaking lost.
Thanks so much!

Your bootloader should already be unlocked, so simply get S-OFF using Rumrunner, then follow this guide.

Thanks for the reply. I've tried to s-off my htc but it hasnt worked. So I downloaded the recovery stock version and after installing it, the device told me that my phone doesnt appear to be rooted and if i wanted to install supersu, i declined and then made a recovery. Phone looks like unrooted, although within the bootloader it still shows "tampered" and "Unlocked". The recovery mode that the phone had installed has disappeared so I dont know what to do now, should I continue to s-off the device and then put it down to hboot 1.44 and follow the unroot guide???
I would like to make sure my device is unrooted in order to gain warranty privilages just in case i need to send out my phone to htc...
Thanks!

You don't really have a choice, unless you have the RUU for your phone. Can you post the results of "fastboot getvar all" so we can try to figure out what to do.

Just a quick note here, "version-main: <blank>" I never like that.
BTW, when posting "fastboot getvar all" it's preferably to remove IMEI and s/n; we don't need to see that.
You should probably get s-off as @attanasi0 suggested and then run a "HTC__304" downgrade RUU. (You can only downgrade if you're S-Off)
Just my two cents

In regards to the "version main", I tried lots of times but it was blank all of them, dunno why. Some of you guys know what the reason could be?

When you boot to bootloader does it also show nothing in OS (7th line down or so)? Can you remember the last OTA you took?

Right, it shows just OS- but nothing else...when i bought it the guy had installed the MaximusHD 13 and I updated through OTA to the MaximusHD 20 but wasnt going smooth so I reset it to factory settings and It installed the JB 4.3 (3.22.1540.1).
Today after trying to s-off without success, I downloaded the recovery stock version for the rom I had and flashed it and the recovery mode that I had before disappeared and the baseband upgraded to 4A.20...instead of the 4A.17 that I had before that. Did the guy who sold me the htc messed it up? is there anything I can do to set my device to factory settings?
Thanks for the help guys! I appreciate it!

Well from the information available, you have
- hboot 1.54
- m7_ul
- PN0710000
- CID HTC__304
this would lead me to assume you have a 2.24.401.x based phone.
I would try to get one of the following Guru Reset ROM:
2.24.401.8 : http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/guru_reset_m7_2-24-401-8-zip/
2.24.401.1 : http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/guru_reset_m7_2-24-401-1-zip/
flash one of them in recovery, then follow the rumrunner steps to try to achieve S-Off.
If that is successful, then you can downgrade back to stock, using this RUU (exe): http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/ruu_m7_...1-27_10-31-1131-05_release_310878_signed-exe/
check your "fastboot getvar all" after that.
Once you've done all that you can use revone (or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2477792) to remove "TAMPERED"
and also revone (or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2475914) to get you're phone "LOCKED" if you so wish
Keep S-Off !!
PS: hit the thanks button if someone has helped you
Awaiting your feedback

Thanks for the help. I have downloaded the Rom you gave me the link for but I dunno how to flash it due to I lost access to the teamwin recovery mode and when I click recovery onto the bootloader it goes to a black screen with a caution simbol in red and I have to reboot it.
I have tried with the goomanager to flash that rom but it doesnt let me. Any advice in this regard? I can tell goomanager to find an open recovery script (openrecovery-twrp-2.6.1.0-m7.img), should i do this? Or Im gonna end up with a bricked phone?
Thanks!

"black screen with a caution simbol in red" that's stock recovery, you need to flash back a custom recovery. download (if you dont have one) from the xda threads, then enter bootloader (shut off phone, hold POWER + VOLDOWN) enter FASTBOOT, connect to PC and it should change to FASTBOOT USB
then
fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash recovery <name of recovery>.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
-> enter RECOVERY
then "install ZIP" in Aroma, deselect "stock recovery" so you don't need to flash it again.

No problem, TWRP you mentioned should work just fine. It's the same as installing a custom ROM. I havent used TWRP but it should say something like "install zip", then find the zip and flash away.
Hopefully, that will give you a chance to successfully run rumrunner; remember to read and follow the instructions to the letter!
Good luck and keep us posted (fingers crossed)

Well I installed the custom recovery, then flashed the stock rom 2.24.401.8 as you told me. Once I did that I ran rumrunner successfully gainning S-off.
Now I have to run the RUU but the one you suggested me is the "RUU M7 UL JB 50 HTC Europe 1.28.401.7 Radio 4A.13.3231.27 10.31.1131.05 Release 310878" but my radio is 4A.17.3250.14_10.39.1150.04L. Should I try to install it anyways? I've taken a look at the rest of RUUs and none fits my features...
btw every time I flash the stock version at the end it tells me that my phone doesnt appear to be rooted and if i want to install supersu, i always say no and after that my recovery always goes to stock, i guess it is normal, isnt it?

Go ahead and flash it, it will downgrade everything (now possible thanks to S-Off), and you will then receive the latest OTA package(s) to get to the most current version including radio.

Hey! I have tried to lock it but after typing adb shell I get this "[email protected]:\ $" instead of the # that you are getting. I've tried to type "su" after that but it says that the command cannot be found. Also, when I type the code "echo -ne..." it says that I have permission denied so dunno what to do now...
Im asking in the lock/unlock threat but they just told me that its because im not rooted and that i have to install a recovery and install superuser in order to be able to introduce the code, dont really understand why I have to root it afer unrooted it :S

You should have LOCKED it before running the RUU, because that's what made you loose root.
So before proceeding, can you give me an update of your status:
bootloader: locked/relocked/unlocked?
tampered?
ROM?
"fastboot getvar all" (remove IMEI and s/n)

Help me please! :(

My current situation is : M7_UL PVT Ship S- On Tampered relocked & unrooted again. No Rom installed, no backup, no recovery!
:'(
I tried installing RUU file but it failed, tried two/three different RUUs.
Also tried to achieve S-Off but maybe I'm to dumb & it didn't work.
I'm out of ideas, please help me

Im pretty sure you cannot boot into a custom recovery with S-ON
To remove the TAMPERED and LOCK the bootloader, you will have to S-OFF using rumrunner for hboot 1.5x or revone for hboot 1.44
The current Rumrunner can work with a custom rom e.g. the latest version of ARHD or Insertcoin ROM that has an unsecure kernel. To do this though you will have to unlock the bootloader using htcdev and install the custom rom and then S-OFF

Yeah you cant boot .img files any more with s-on or s-off htc removed it in the now HBOOT and fastboot.
Dont panic mate its really easy to fix
Simply download ARHD from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2183023 make sure you have all the latest drivers and everything installed and rename the file to rom.zip you will need TWRP for this i believe and simply boot to recovery (TWRP) and push thw file to your sdcard using adb push rom.zip /sdcard (takes a while) simply flash arhd rom.
Once your phone boots you can use rumrunner.us to s-off the phone. Follow the instructions on their site. Once thats done boot to fastboot and use the command fastboot oem writecid 11111111 you will now have supercid and you can now flash any ruu you like. (unless you need to downgrade hboot.) If thats the case pm me and i can guide you through it on here.

Tbh I know in theory xposed should be dangerous but it's really not. I would defo s-off though you need to install the latest firmware which you will be missing and addresses a LOT of issues. S-off the device and I will show you how to upgrade the firmware

I used to use ARHD but I switched to maximus HD because of the OTA and the 360 camera mod.
So to upgrade firmware you want to boot into fastboot and type "fastboot getvar mid" write it down then go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2485651 and download the correct version against your mid.
Put it in your adb/fastboot folders and making sure your still in fastboot type "fastboot oem rebootRUU"
Once you phone boots into update mode you will see a HTC logo on your screen and nothing else.
Rename the firmware you just downloaded to firmware.zip and type "fastboot flash zip firmware.zip"
It will say say failed pre hboot update flush image again. Simply type the exact same cmd again "fastboot flash zip firmware.zip" and it will flash the latest firmware.
The progress bar on your phone probably won't go all the way up but as long as cmd says finished its done so just type "fastboot reboot-bootloader" and if you look your main-os will have changed.
That's it.
Your on the latest firmware meaning all the Roms should run smoothly and you should have no more issues with exposed.

One thing I forgot to mention you need super cid so if you havn't already you need to be in fastboot and you need to type "fastboot oem writecid 11111111" and then fastboot reboot-bootloader you cod should have changed to 11111111 allowing you to flash an ruu for any phone now.
Everything done, thanks for your help!
Good night ;;?

You mean I can't boot into a custom recovery with S-OFF and a unlocked bootloader? Sry.. I'd test that but my phone is sent in for repair

Yeah afraid so. Tbf I don't know of that is the case for every phone but the m7_ul UK edition couldn't get it to work on any device I tried after contacting a friend who I have inside HTC's repair centre he claimed the feature does not work with the latest hboot.
I might see if I can get some other devices from work to test this further and if it is true for all variants then maybe enroll on a workaround

fastboot boot recovery.img only works in hboot 1.44, it was either patched or broken in hboot 1.54

no problem, it might have actually been broken by accident, someone disassembled the code and saw a bad memcpy; sort of lost track of the post though
