Note sync, in depth (how do you do yours?) - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As thread title, ive asked for help but no-one seems to use my exact set up. So I was wondering how exactly are you syncing and while we are on, backing up data produced by apps. Its a very messy procedure in android and one that the iphone excels at (being idiot proof), so what do you do?
(not SD card, I was thinking more about if you lost your phone thanks)

bump, I searched and found nothing. I listened to some guy that said just upgrade to KL8, don't worry about it. I backed up everything using mybackup pro, but it failed to save app settings and messed up all my contacts which were previously linked for duplicates. On top of that I lost all of my S-Memo's.

frustrated & confused

can someone please help? i recently bought a used tilt ii (HTC 8925) and have had several recurring problems since.
1) for some reason the phone seems to delete/lose my contacts. initially i manually entered contacts until i discovered active sync. after it lost those contacts the first time i copied contacts from my outlook phonebook (over 200) on my laptop. within a few days it lost those as well.
i figured this might have happened (somehow) after unsuccessfully attempting to delete some apps (mainly some games which i don't like); install new apps ( an RPN calc & updated version of S2U2) modifying existing layout using the Chome editor app.
so after the third time of losing contacts & reinstalling using active sync from outlook, i decided NOT to install/delete or change any apps. last nite i modified some contacts assigning several to different categories. woke up this morning & voila! all contacts are lost except for 6.. WTF???
what is causing this phone to lose contacts like this??
2) i have set pass word lock on my phone seems to work fine for a few days then suddenly it no longer recognizes my password. That is my situation now. & again it has happened before. i think i ended up powering down phone, removing sim card for a several minutes then rebooting.
what is causing this?
3) lastly my active sync program often does not work. it will not recognize my phone. & then when i make changes to get it to recognize the phone ( deleting the device & then adding it back), it won't recognize the settings for my outloook server. what is going wrong with this that i have to keep redoing this after so many days?
4) how do i do a system restore on this phone. i have searched for this as well with little luck on HOW to actually do this on the phone.
i hope these issues & questions make sense. lawd knows i sure can't make sense of what is going on with this phone. & yes i have searched on the forums for these issues & can't find full answers to the problems i have collectively.
my phone has WM 6.5 professional, ROM version: TPC_V11 Mega WWE; radio version 1.70.19.09, HTC touchflo (which i don't use);
Thanks,
kahlil
Ready the sticky/tutorial at the beginning of the forum - the instructions to flash original shipped ROM are in there. You have the same ROM I do.. it works great!
thanks beatlefan i will check there again. that was the first place i looked when i got the phone, but don't recall seeing solutions to the problems i'm getting now. maybe i overlooked?

It sounds like something going on with the way you have ActiveSync configured. Make sure you have enabled the calendar and contact update box when you set it up. You also might try running the sync a couple of times.
I Might be wrong but since you have a custom rom you might want to try flashing a stock rom and then reflashing the same custom rom, cuz sometimes it fixes strange issues like these. Hope that helps.

Issue with Titanium Backup Pro - error when uploading to Dropbox

Hi All,
I've had a browse around the forum, but I don't seem to find a thread relating to my issue.
I've recently purchased Titanium Backup Pro, in order to back-up my files straight to Dropbox or Google Drive, but so far, I haven't had any success doing so. Everytime I try to do said back-up, an error pops up around the 40% mark, saying that there was a network error, even though my wireless connection should not be an issue. I'm just wondering whether this has been experienced before, and what the solution to the problem is.
Phone: Nexus S
I appreciate your feedback/advice.

Spotify not recognizing internal storage anymore

For some strange reason, Spotify no longer seems to recognize my phone's internal storage. I'm unable to listen to the radio and the following error pops up: 'No SD Card Found: We found no place to store our data, please check that you have a working SD card and free space". This started occurring after I upgraded to Mike's ARHD 10 (and remained after I upgraded again to 10.1). I tried Googling the issue, but couldn't find a single instance of anyone facing a similar problem. I'm fairly certain the rom is not to blame since no one else mentioned anything related to this--plus, the rom has been awesome thus far (just like Mike's earlier versions). I tried fixing permissions, and even re-installing rom after performing a full wipe. I also should mention that after uninstalling then re-installing Spotify, the app seems to run fine for a little while--but the error will rear its ugly head again after I try to open the app again at a later time . Also, I am able to access my internal SD card without a problem via ES File Explorer and everything looks about right when I go to Settings > Storage.
Any help would be appreciated
I get the same message when trying to start Spotify on my stock Gnexus. All other apps using internal storage works fine.
I have now uninstalled and reinstalled Spotify and for now it works fine, but I have to download all offline lists again

Thanks for the response. I started to receive this error (fairly recently) when I installed or updated my current rom. I got tired of having to keep re-installing the Spotify app, so eventually I went into Settings and decided to 'Delete cache and saved data' for the heck of it. This might not exactly be a feasible option for those who have a paid subscription and actual saved data, but I have yet to receive the same error again. :highfive:

Same issue here on my S4 (found this thread through the Spotify community... funny how us XDA members always end up troubleshooting products, lol). I was on Slimbean and thought it was the rom. Restored my stock Nandroid and got the same error a few hours later. Apparently, this will happen again later. Just wanted to chime in with my experience.
Same on HTC One. Put Sentinel rom on over the weekend, re-downloaded all my playlists and it worked fine on Monday...this morning, get the SD card message.
I was looking at where all my space was last night since I put Sentinel on and there was about 1.5gb in a Spotify folder under sdcard/data...the folder has gone.
I will re-install Spotify and see what happens.

It's been my experience in my past two and a half years here at XDA that the developers of ROMs and homebrew usually find a solution before the actual app developers do. In this case, there was a thread in the spotify support forum. That led me here. *shrug* it's how we do.

I come to XDA to find workarounds but when I pay (subscribe to) for something I expect the devs to work on a solution, I think the people working at spotify would like to hear about your problem too, because you can help them but many other people would just give up on them...
I had a problem too and contacted them, they are friendly and responsive

I always go directly to them. And I did. However, posting in multiple places never hurts. if you read my original post, you would see I found this thread from the Spotify support threads.

Spotify has many issues with android and the sd card error problem,i personally read the spotify forums and there are hundreds if not thousands having the same error spotify really should get there act together and fix this after all it is a paid service and you should be getting what you pay for.
What i did was put a new sd card in formatted it using the phone and kept spotify out, everything worked fine,so my advice for now would be to avoid spotify at all costs as you lose everything thats on the card as well ,at least until they fix this bug,of which we are all having to pay for

[Q] Unexpected system app - Poss Spy Related ?

Hi All.
I have a question which I am hoping someone can help with.
I have an Experia X8 in standard configeration.
I discovered an app in the app manager with no name. This was after having good reason to beleive I may have been tracked or had spy ware loaded without my knoledge.
The phone would not load apps (failed at the point of instalation).
The phone was only used for calls and texts, and had one app loaded (GOSMSPRO) for text messages.
I consulted Vodafone and Sony Erricson and they advised to take it to the police. After 3 months the police lab returned the phone saying it tested negative for spy software.
I did some research and used moborobo and ESFile explorer.
I identified the un named system app as "Picker.apk". The phone app manager reported it as version 1 (but with no name) and 44Kb size.
Moborobo reported it with name (Picker.apk) but with a size of 52.12Kb.
Sony Erricson have told me that this app should not be there, on two seperate calls on different days.
They said they had seen this kind of thing before, and offered to do a "factory reload" if I wanted.
They also said they had done "factory reloads" for people that had appeared to have spy apps on there phones, as the normal software reinstall (via PC Companion) does not reload the Rom, as I discovered.
I rooted the phone and messed arround trying to load a new ROM to clear out all that was in there, but have not got it right so far...
My question is, how did this App get into the system apps in Rom as the phone was not rooted.
I have since discovered that some spy and tracking apps have an "auto delete if Sim is changed" feature in their features list.
I did remove my contract sim and put it in my new phone, and put a pay as you go sim in the sony, before I discovered I was being tracked--Thats how I found out !
Any help, advice or thoughts would be greatly apreciated.
Best regards.
Warren.

Text history disappearing

I am in sales and sometimes I text info to prospects and found it handy to use the search text function to locate the exact verbiage and date of the texts I've sent.
Just tried that with something that was maybe for a little over a year ago and it is not there. I have always been able to find the text in the past and now it is gone.
Is there something I am missing or did my OS have a brain fart and delete some of my data?
Try going to the relevant contact and scrolling back (to the top of the conversation) a bunch, maybe? To avoid long conversations making the Messaging hub slow way down, the phone automatically archives older messages. It doesn't delete them, they're just not loaded by default. I'd expect them to still be in the search index, but maybe not; I don't know much about how search is implemented on WP8.1. Scrolling to the top of the convo history forces the phone to load those historical messages again, though, and that hopefully will let you search them.
I tried that before I posted... the history is gone... oldest I have on this person is 4/10/15. Something must have gone south on a random basis... I just checked another contact and while scrolling back, the progress bar(?) on the right side would reset indicating it was accessing the archives and this happened several times and I have yet to get to the oldest history item for the contact.
So I appreciate the input and you are correct, I just don't know what happened to this one contact and then how many other contacts are effected. Strange enough, that 4/10 date coincides, approximately, to the time my OS was updated. Hmmm.....
Darn. Sorry, that sucks. The only other thing I can think of to suggest is to try setting up a phone with your account again (either some other phone, or by hard-resetting your own) and hoping it gets restored from the automatic SMS backup (assuming you have that enabled). I worry that if you hard-reset your own phone you might lose more, though, so it would be good to test with a different phone first and see if it helps before doing it to your own primary device.

I have a Lumia 1520 that is my wife's. Seldom used. Just swap sim cards and hard-restore? Now my phone is a Lumia 920 which run Cyan and no Denim. Would that be an issue once I determine the restore works for my history and then actually restore to my 920? I may be over cautious but I just think a flag may be set saying I upgraded to Denim and then won't be able to restore to my 920.
I've been kicking around a new phone but I really have't seen anything that interests me and besides, my 920 works so why change?
