Notifications? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I use my phone for Calendar and meeting events, etc
I had a Palm years ago and a Nokia communicator that would Notify of an evet or Voicemail and keep chiming until acknowledged.
How do I get something like this on the Note? If I am not next to the phone and hear the whistle or check it, I don't know if anything triggered?

Noled will show a fake notification light which works well for me. It also has a vibrate every x minutes function that I'm not sure is working for me. I tried vibrate notify but I had problems.
It might be conflicting with smart vibrator. Not sure.
Still looking for a working vibrate reminder.

I too use my android devices for events, tasks, project planning and such and it is so much better than the Palm was or will ever be!
As for the app I recommend using: pocket informant. It works great with toodledo and google calendar (and also gtasks, but I don't use that).
*see below for answer @ question.

You might want to use: Missed message flasher free. It has the option to light up the screen, use the notification lights and vibrate with:
- calendar, email, gmail, go sms pro, g+, gtalk, gvoice, k9mail, missed calls, skype, sms & mms, whatsapp and if the phone is set into silent mode, you can also choose to disable the vibrate option. Also in the donate version you can choose the option 'other apps'.
I use it with pocket informant and maildroid (free version) and it works absolutely great!

Interesting stuff here. How about missed calls or VM's?

Its fine. The nature of amoled is that only the lit portion of the screen drains battery. It's pretty minimal. Give it a try.

Missed call are supported but I don't know what VM's are. If it's a messaging type of thing that is than also support I guess.
I think the program just uses the notification bar as a source to act because pocket informant isn't in the list and it does still reacts when a reminder is sent to me via the program itself.

Application recommendations (Calendar, email, notifications)

Hello,
I've just recently switched from a Windows Mobile phone to the Hero, and there are a few features I miss from my old phone. I'm hoping that someone can recommend some apps to fill the gap; I've looked around on the forum and not yet found anything that seems like it would do what I want.
Calendar:
The calendar app that comes with the phone works great for everything except one simple feature - it displays all events on the monthly view with the same icon. My old phone used to have different icons for events in the morning, afternoon or 'all day'. This made it a lot easier to tell them apart at a glance. Edit: You also can't flick the screen to the side to scroll through days.
Mail:
This is just a minor annoyance. You can't swap between emails or email accounts by flicking the screen to the side.
Notifications:
If I've missed a call, received a text message or something of that sort, I'd like the phone to vibrate every 5 minutes until I acknowledge that I missed something. Currently all I can find is making the track ball glow, which isn't terribly useful if the phone is in my pocket.
If anyone can recommend some programs to fix those issues, that'd be great. (By the way, I'm using the Modaco custom ROM v2.2) Thanks!
Steve
For text notifications, grab SMS Popup from the Market. Brilliant little app imo
For the calendar get Pure Grid Calendar and turn on the Timeline option in settings

Missed call can repeat notifications for missed calls and texts. You can also set the vibration pattern.
For notifications, I use Missed Call. Seems to work well for missed calls and SMS messages which is all I need it for.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I tried SMS popup and it worked fine for texts, but as expected, it didn't do anything for missed calls. I've now installed Missed Call; I'll see how well it works tomorrow.

As for Pure Grid Calendar, that looks good. However it's a paid app; does it work well? The reviews generally were positive, but I'm paranoid about paying for something that doesn't work quite how I'd like it. In particular I forgot to mention that I need it to sync with Google Calendar - the guy's website suggests it does in some of the comments but doesn't specifically say so. Do you know if that's definitely the case?
Thanks again guys.
Pure Grid Calendar and it's cousin Pure Calendar are paid apps but you do get to use them for about 24 hours for free. If you then install you get a refund. My understanding is that this happens for all paid apps but perhaps someone who knows more about market can confirm.
As to syncing with Google calendar, again my understanding is that it is the device itself that syncs. In each calendar app, including HTC calendar, you just choose which calendars you want that app to display. The pure calendars are the same.
Personally I use Pure Calendar rather than the grid as it shows an agenda style widget in a 4x2 format.

I read that somewhere else as well, and then went to check the Market. That's indeed what the Google Terms of Service said; you can get a refund within 24 hours as long as you haven't tried downloading the program before.

Ah, that does make sense. That way each designer doesn't have to program their own syncing code.

I actually tried the Pure Grid Calendar yesterday, and I'm happy with it. I particularly like how it brings up a pop-up of the day's events if you tap a day.
I'll have a look at the Pure non-grid Calendar as well later, as I can't access the market from where I am at the moment. I assume its advantage over the basic Android calendar widget is that it displays multiple days?
Thanks to you both for your help.
Recurring Events
I am new to Android from WinMo as well. I am having trouble with recurring events. I work a rotating (2 on, 2 off, 3 on, 2 off, 2 on, 3 off; I KNOW!!! ) schedule for 2 wks with one workgroup then repeating for two weeks with another workgoup, then starting over.
This was not a problem with the calendar in my WinMo Tilt. I could "program" my work schedule in my phone and look out as far as I wanted to. I miss my calendar!
Am I missing something, or is the android calendar completely lacking in this area? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Is there trackball light app already?

it's been couple of days, there must be an app allowing us to do whatever we want with the trackball, already?
Blink does it
No it doesn't. It stays white no matter what I pick.
EDIT: Hmmm people say it does in it's comments section. Must be doing something wrong.

yeah I just tried it and it works great for me, although I wish it had notifications for gmail. It's better than nothing.
It seems it doesn't work for incoming calls, but texts changed fine.
it works only when screen is off. For incoming call, the screen is on and thus it does not show colors.
Ahhhhhhhhh got ya.
yeah the same with me, works partially => delete
But I am quite excited! Blink is quite an old, inactive app and it works! It can be considered as an proof of concept and I can only imagine what active developer can do with this feature.
The developer of Missed Call is already working on it too.

Why not support an active xda developer and use Trackball Alert?
Or are you referring to Froyo? You're not specific enough.

Bingo
Gmail Notifier has just been updated and is working for Froyo for new Gmail. There are various other options for SMS, I am using SMS Popup and I believe Blink will handle missed calls among other things......

Trackball Alert looks great, but you have to be rooted and running a modded ROM

No matter what settings I use (Blink, Constantly On, all colors), the test notification never shows any colors.
I received a new email, and I actually got BOTH notifications (default and Gmail Notifier) and the trackball glowed white just as if I didn't have the app installed. I'm rooted on 2.2.
Are the LED colors working for you?

+1 on the GMail Notifier.
Install, turn off GMail's Notification in the App.
Launch GMail Notifier and configure, click test notification and turn off the screen and trackball will light up with the color selected.
As for SMS, Handcent also has been updated for Trackball Colors.

I just turned off default Gmail notifications, opened Gmail Notifier and clicked Test. Still no LED notifications.
Are they working for you guys?

1. If you have 1.3 installed, delete it... It's labeled the OLD VERSION now. Go get the latest version.
2. When you click Test Notification, to see the trackball light up, you have to turn off the screen (hit the power button) BEFORE clearing your notifications.
Works every time for me.

click test and then, without clearing the message, turn the screen off. You should get your color.

[Q] Voicemail Notification Question

I hope this is ok to ask here.... Is there an app or feature that can make the phone light up or make a noise if I have a voice mail? I've looked and so far nada. I don't always just pick up my phone and am hoping I can find something to prompt me too.

There is also an app on the Market called Missed Call that I could never really get to work right. You can set it up to provide a notification for a missed call or SMS using sound and/or vibration at a preset frequency (every minute, etc.).
The one I have used is NoLED, also on the Market. It puts a lighted icon on your dark screen indicating that you have an SMS or a missed call. Not quite the same as a voicemail notification, but hey you can't have a voicemail unless you missed a call.
EDIT: NoLED now includes a voicemail notification icon. Not sure if i just missed it or if it's a new feature; the app just updated recently.

Notifications repeating reminder

Ive had my HTC one for a week or so now and am loving it, there is one thing that this phone cant seem to do and that is repeat a missed call, sms or third party (such as whatsapp) notification. My previous device, a GS2 could do this with apps such a NoLed, Reminder Pro, light flow.
I know we have the notification LED but it is no help when the phone is in your pocket or in another room, what I like is a reminder tone and a buzz set to repeat every 5 minutes or so.
So ive tried many apps whos purpose is to do this and none of them seem to work, Light flow is the most succesful so far but it has a flaw in that it will set the led flashing green continuosly untill you reboot the phone (thats with led disabled within lightflow as it is not suported on HTCs without root)
Reminder Pro just does not do anything, In NoLed the sound and vibrate do not work but the screen flash does.
I have tried a couple of others such as Missed Call Reminder , Missed call/sms alert and Easy Reminder, none of which work with the HTC one
So my question here is has anyone descovered an app that works to give a repeat vibrate and tone for missed notifications of calls sms etc.

Junior, I use your Smart Notify. It's very good but it doesn't notify Whatsapp messeges.
Hi, you must select in Settings/Popup window, then Other applications, enable Accessibility (first item), and then check item WhatsApp

Sony Smartwatch 2

works just fine with the Butterfly S
there arent a lot of apps yet and there are quite a few that are paid (which i'm fine with, as long as the price is right)
i get all the notifications i want on my watch, Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp, calls, sms, i can even set who i want to get notifications from, so the watch doesnt get flooded
there also is a call handling app that can replace the stock one, adds functionality like reject call and send an sms. i've mailed the developer and asked if he can add reject call with whatsapp message, he's going to look into it
feel free to ask questions, will answer as quick and thorough as i can

can it tell the time?
Hi I have a couple of questions.
1. whats it like in direct sunlight, I remember the first one being horrible ....
2. When you get a notification does it pop up on the screen or do you just get like a badge notification. What I mean is say, for example, you got an sms, does the sms message pop up straight away so you can read it there and then, or do you just get a badge on the sms icon with a (1) notifying you that you have a new sms.
If you could let me know that'd be great
Cheers
1 - the screen has 3 states:
- standby, shows the time, without using backlight, readable inside, in direct sunlight it gets even more readable. unreadable in the dark.
- backlight on, shows the time with backlight, good for low light conditions or when its fully dark, easy to read in sunlight as well
- menu/apps/messages with backlight, same as the second one
so yes, its no problem using it in direct sunlight, both with or without backlight
2 - messages are displayed as text, with a little icon so you know if its a sms, mail, twitter, facebook, etc
ofcourse for longer messages, it wont show all the text, but it will show a text or twitter message in full (so 144 characters is the max)
there are some things that could be improved ofcourse
-i would like to be able to set the timeout for the backlight
-same thing for how long messages are displayed
-the remote camera app doesnt work, or doesnt work with the Butterfly S
-more watch faces
i will contact Sony Support to ask them about those issues
