[Q] double press home button - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm trying to set double press home for home screen, as single press would be allocate to a task switcher.
my problem is that double press does nothing when i deactivate voice speech.
i tryed advanced home button on the market but it doesn't or can't make it work.
can someone help for this stupid thing ?

Homemyhome from the galaxy s2 works when set, but you have to re select the double press app on reboot, I haven't managed to sort out that problem with it yet.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but isn't this what's normal --
short single press HOME ==> home screen
long single press HOME ==> task switcher

Phone is completely stock.

long press on stock rom is showing recent apps, not running ones...

Try extracting the app from the zip, copy it to your sd card and then copy it over to the app directory.

Are you saying that you got the "stock rom start menu" or just lost the option called "QuickMenu" in which you will find options like Screen, SIP, bluetooth, etc in ttrans custom rom? I had the same problem but after few days and soft resets it appeared on its own. anyway make sure that "QuickMenu.lnk" which is a shortcut file which brings the custom start menu is available in the folder "\Windows\StartUp\" and if not copy from "\Windows" and paste in start up folder. Use total commander or some other file explorer to do the same. let me know the result
that did it
thanks spk_xda!
i copied and pasted and now i'm back up and running the good quick/start menu. i appreciate the fast help.

You know what, now I lost the start menu lol... even though the lnk file is available in "\windows\startup" folder its not coming back and I got the stock rom start menu. lets see what happens after few days...
I had the same problem except the link for the quickmenu is in the start up folder already. It occured after doing the initial settings changes the second time I flashed it with Open Touch v4.0. The first time it worked for a little bit but I guess I changed some setting that doesn't allow it to start up. I can click the link or program and it will load once but it defaults to the Orig. start menu after that... Am I the first with this specific issue?

No, you are not the only one having this issue. As I stated above, I still have the problem and the quick menu doesnt comes even after many soft resets. I even tried to move the .lnk file from startup folder and reset and then moved it back and reset, but no way... it just doesnt work...

[Q] VolUp + Home + Power doesn't work? And backing up framework-res.apk

Brand new phone, unlocked and unbranded. Came on the 'new' JM1. I've rooted it using the One Click Root.
Firstly, I am now trying to install the update.zip for the battery circle mod but for some reason the VolUp + Home + Power combo doesn't work. I press it all together then let go once the first boot screen pops up. What have I done wrong?
Secondly, I am also trying to backup my framework-res.apk. I understand this is in /system/framework/framework-res.apk, but my 'My Files' application can't seem to access this, even with hidden files shown. What am I missing?
Thanks.
Hello, you seem to be missing alot, and to be totally honest if i was you i would research ALOT more before attempting this mod, im dubious about this to say the least because of the many variants.
1. the combo will work, your just letting go too early, hold them all down until your in the Recovery Mode. I read somewhere, when the SGS logo pops up to release the power button for a split second and then hold it again. Dont know if theres any method in this but whereas before i had a few fails i get in everytime now.
2. even though you have rooted your device, 'My Files' has its root set to /sdcard/ so you wont be able to see the root using this app anyway. download Root Explorer from the market.
Again you must read more into what your doing before installing a random update that you dont know what it contains, if i was you id make it myself using your own framework-res.
To do this you can use APK Manager to decompile the package, then copy the original graphics and xml into the correct drawable folders, recompile it, open in winrar and copy the META folder, then you should be good
Alternately for backing up your framework-res you can open CMD and type
adb pull /system/framework/framework-res.apk
a yea you need the android SDK installed for the above ^
hope this helped

This worked, thanks!
The update.zip I was installing was only for the battery circle mod and nothing else.
Thanks a lot for your advice too, I usually ask a lot of questions on IRC if I'm unsure about what I'm doing.

So let's get this straight. You installed a file, you get an error message. Okay...
Here's what you do.
First press this button.
Select that option.
Go here.
Select that.
OR
You could just simply do the other thing and stick with that.
In other words... INCLUDE MORE INFORMATION!
What did you install?
Where did you download it from? (Market? Web? XDA?)
Is your phone rooted?
What is the error message exactly?
Have you tried uninstalling the app?
Can you do a nandroid restore?
What rom are you running?
etc, etc, etc.
You need to be more specific.

Tips - use G button as camera button / lock screen (change key binding)

I found it in a chinese forum (bbs.gfan.com/android-2014369-1-1.html)
I'm sure most people found the G button useless, so it would be nice to change that. The following is my experience with it:
The position of the G button make it perfectly useful as lock/unlock button, you can use it to shutdown as well, but cannot use it to switch on the phone, I guess it is electrically hardwired to the power button at the top.
Not too bad for camera, long press it will launch the camera app, but it don't have 2 levels so press it once and it will start auto-focus and take picture immediately, similar to touch and release shutter button in camera app, which mean you can't "dis-engage" a failed focus attempt.
here is the method:
1. make sure you have root and r/w to system partition
2. the file in question is "TWL4030_Keypad.kl", it's in /system/usr/keylayout/
3. before making any changes, copy the file to SDcard as a backup
4. open the file with any text editor, scroll down to 3rd line from the bottom, it should be "key 95 GESTURE"
5. if you want to use it as camera button, change it to "key 95 CAMERA WAKE_DROPPED"
if you want to use it as power/lock button, change it to "key 95 POWER WAKE_DROPPED"
6. save the changes, reboot to see the changes.
Very good.
In fact, I may even use this on nova.
the method is work.
after edit file it create backup file which is name "TWL4030_Keypad.kl.bak"
It works! Great!
worked perfectly thx!
thank u..
this work

notice you need to long press to start the Camera App. (you should feel the phone vibrate)
or just start the camera app, then press the G button to take a picture to see if it works.
It should be a pretty straight forward modification.
Could it be
"key 95 RECOVERY WAKE_DROPPED" ???
wow, very nice
Very nice. Thanks.
To all who could not manage get it to work: You must take care of file attributes after modyfing the file content ( otherwise it won't work ). It must be CHMOD 644.
( I use SD Maid for this )
It doesn't work for me, i am using pays ROM. Can someone upload the file? Thank u!

1- are u using app2sd or something similar? and u need ext2/ ext3/ ext4 on your sdcard
2- what rom you wearing rite now?
1) No I don't have any application like that. I just move on the games with parameters-> applications -> manage the applications
2) I have the R8

you have to play with unlock boot loader (be carefull)
flashing kernel (easy)
partitioning sdcard (ext2/ext3/ext4) (lot steps)
or
Download all the app U like with browser instead market
(because when download using market we don't have the installer for the app)
download the app.apk and save it in one folder and just name it apk folder..
so everytime u change your rom, u can simply instal it again and again, and again..
I just use this trick!!
Ok I will do it. Do you know some websites with apk ?
And the sound at the starting of the phone do you know how to take it off ?

some app.apk u can simply google it..
but almost paid app.apk are not allowed!
I just buy a paid app.apk dvd with my friend
About the boot sound U have to search it your self..
I'm not sure about your rom rite now (R8)??
but u can try this
install root explorer (phone need rooted)
(this app same like file manager but it can see phone and system files)
you can simply search the boot animation folder
on phone directory instead sdcard
search one by one folder
when u get the boot sound or boot animation u can simply delete
(If can't delete) click on "mount RW" on the top right
sory long explaination..
and HIT Thanks twise!!
