Why is the loudspeaker so low!? - HTC Sensation XL

It's embarrassing, with it being a big phone, 4.7in screen, and having beats audio tech!!
Ringtones and notification tones are not loud! Especial if u use ur own! Plus I can't even enjoy playing my music playing on my loudspeaker it's that low!
Will htc ever learn? And give us phones with descent sound quality!? Grrr

They do this everytime deliberately, probably to save a few quid. Cheap skates

I also have a iPhone 4s and the sound on that has to be 10x louder! It's unreal I tell u!

anyone else with similar issues?
the HD2 had AWESOME sound, and this phone has a ****ty speaker. this is a BIG NO NO for me as it will lead me to stray from this HD7
sound fix
go into the htc hub and download the sund enhancer app..the settings will definitely improve the sound
Even with sound enhancer it sounds like crap. I'm trying to give my hd7 back to handler.

+1. Calling it crap is ridiculous. It's just too damn quiet. The headphones that come with the HD7 are excellent though. I wish there was a way to make the speakers louder too though...
I wouldn't be suprised if the speakers are exactly the same as the ones in the hd2.
Seems for somethings they are loud and decent, and for others you can barely hear.
It would be nice if they would make the sound volume consistent across the phone.
Must agree that the phone speakers are rubbish, but i guess HTC and MS want us to use headphones with it like apple,
as you know they seem to have copied the best of both apple and android with this device

My iPhone and iPad speakers are loud enough to share a video or game with others. With the HD7 it's embarrasing sharing a video when you can barely hear it yourself and that's with the vol at max and hand cupped around the back trying to amplify the sound.
The quality is indeed crappy BUT has anyone noticed that there just a few days ago there was a Sound Enhancer update? I did it and it sounds slightly louder when it comes to notifications. I am not a fan on playing music/video through speaker and I use my Sennheiser headphones when it comes to listening. And boy turning SRS on it sounds like my legendary N91 ! And that was one of the musts for me.
But, indeed, it would have been cool to have a decent speaker.
i returned the HD7 because of the crappy speaker. gonna wait for another WP7 release with a louder speaker
Yes, poor it is.
When I put it into the pocket, I always let the camera side face outside, bcz the speaker is next to the camera, otherwise can bearly hear the incoming calls.

This is so NOT cool.
People are idiots because they expect their expensive devices to function the way they've been advertised to function?
Really?!
I don't think this is even a case of expecting everything for nothing. There are standards and these companies that want our hard-earned money need to adhere to them instead of spending millions of dollars on misleading AD campaigns; telling everyone that their devices are the best thing since sliced bread, but are too greedy to do any real QA on them because time to market is short and besides, they're really only concerned about the bottom-line.
Quality loudspeakers on a cellphone is one of the least things you should expect from a phone these days. Every smart AND dumb phone out there has a speakerphone. Its not rocket science.
For crying out loud, these jokers even designed to phone in such a way as to EMPHASIZE the speaker grilles on the top and bottom of the phone.
And yet the sound is obviously tinny and pathetic.
And by the way, downloading software tweaks to make your phone work the way its supposed to work right out of the box doesn't make you smart...it makes you the guy who paid HTC for the privilege of doing their work for them.
Congratulations!
Speakerphone on this phone is just plain embarrassing.
My g/f has the LG Optimus 7 and when is on a call on full volume and NOT on speakerphone it's actually louder than me ON speakerphone.
Now how bad is that?

How would you rate the LoudSpeaker?

The last HTC Phone I had was the Evo3d and I was not satisfied with the loud speaker. Would anyone with the VIVID care to tell us about the loud speaker on the VIVID?
Is it loud and clear during a speakerphone call?
Is it loud and clear while watching youtube?
Is it loud and clear when playing games?
Is it loud and clear when you get a phone call?
Is it loud and clear when you get a system msg... txt, pic, etc?
Short answer is that it sucks.

It wkrks fine for me
Sent from my beastly HTC Vivid
HTC is known for horrible external speakers. The Inspire was the worst.
The Vivid although a little clearer than the Inspire, it is still very low in volumn.
It is a bit louder than the Inspire, but about HALF as loud as my Atrix or Samsung Skyrocket.
The Inspire was the last HTC phone I planned on getting. It is unbelievable that a company that big can't spend and extra $1 per phone to put in a better speaker.
Pretty much the same as all htc phones This one is kinda clear but not loud. Then The Headset Output is The same! Low sound like ALways
is this something that can be fixed like out was on the Evo3d? or is it hardware related?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
i would give it a 7 out of 10.
has anyone tried this method? it seems to address this issue on the evo3d maybe it works for other htc phones??

Sad to hear the audio situation hasn't improved on the Vivid versus the Inspire. I love my Inspire, but one of the first things I noticed was its low headset volume, since I was accustomed to the loud and clear volume output of my previous iPhones and iPods. Back when I listened to music on my iPhone 4, I didn't typically blare it at 100%, but a two-thirds volume level on the iPhone is equivalent to 100% volume level on my Inspire. The problem is that music starts to distort at 100% on the Inspire. While there are various hacks to increase the volume beyond 100% (apps like Volume+ or DSP Manager on CyanogenMod) there is always a downside - the sound distortion gets worse the higher you push the DSP past 100%, which is why HTC sets the maximum volume to the lower level. The bottom line is HTC is choosing to use poor audio hardware in their phones (maybe the new Beats phones are an exception).
For all of your questions, I would say:
Clarity is fine, but overall 'loudness,' not so much.
I had an HTC Aria when it first came out. The loudspeaker on that was of DECENT volume but good clarity. The Vivid's is clear with all sound (aside from call quality, don't like it very much). It just isn't that loud. But with how high the volume can go, it doesn't sound bad at all.
Truthfully with manufacturers these days you Either get Really loud and barely legible or like this phone Clear but not Glaringly Loud and if your in a crowded room trying to talk your probably not going to hear it very well. So it's a trade off for clarity or loudness. It's generally personal preference regarding this. I would suggest testing it yourself and deciding from there.

how about for phone calls while on speakerphone and for incoming call ringing? does it increase that too?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
I came from an iPhone, so the ringer volume on this phone is kinda disappointing in comparison. When I'm at work (Best Buy), I can barely hear the ringer, if at all.
Does Volume+ work with the ringer as well, or just audio?
Well this phone is my first android phone so I can't tell you if it is good compared to others, but I use to have an iPhone and the speaker phone is louder than the iPhone but music is a little louder. I'm happy with the volume

I Believe That It Has Improve Over The Inspire But not as good as the iphone or the Galaxy s II.This Was The Thing That I Was Really Hoping To See Improved.
yes... seems to help there as well.
Totally useless...
As a phone ringer. I can barely hear an incoming call ringer if I have the phone on a shirt pocket, in a car driving with windows rolled down, etc.
As an alarm clock, is even worse.
Hope they can fix it in a future software upgrade.
I came from a Telstra T9193 HD2 used in AT&T 3g network. Then "upgraded" (I must say downgraded!!!) to the Windows Phone 7 HTC Surround. Both phones have excellent audio with the loudspeaker in ringer mode or alarm clock. Being the HD2 louder (one speaker) compared to the Surround which have two speakers.
But the Vivid doesn't have half the audio output of any of the above.

Sound quality

So, the Xperia Z was officially launched at a PR event in Dubai yesterday, and the price seems okay too (2499 AED, ~680 USD). I've seen concerns about the screen quality but will check that out myself when its out in stores (March). Can anyone who has the Z comment on the sound quality on the device ?
There is already a thread in Q&A.
What kind of sound quality are you talking about? Audio playback?
I'm concerned by the volume of the earpiece, and how loudly and clearly you can hear people during a phone call. In other words, what the X10 sucked ass at.
If you are concerned about audio check out the HTC One.
Stereo Front speakers, amps, amazing all around.
I've just received my phone from japan and the volume of the phone whilst playing youtube videos or music is appalling. It's hardly audible even at the highest setting. ya, I heard the speakers are compromised because of water proof. Guess I still got an option for head set which is what I use for my current phone.

Hardly audible? I wonder what you have done with my ears
It's not as loud as some other phones but it's still more than adequate. It's enough to wake me up in the morning (quite easily even) and the best thing is that it doesn't sound distorted even at the highest volume.

I may have over exaggerated with my statement xD. But to be honest it's loud speaker whilst playing music is poorer than an a Lg Optimus L3, I was forced to use the optimus L3 whilst waiting for my xperia z lol so I know full well what it sounds like it. Sound via the headphone jack is fine just the loud speaker sucks it would have problems waking me up but their is always vibration so it doesn't really bother me.

In call volumes are fantastic can't complain very loud and clear, had no issues with people not being able to hear me. if you know of any way I can test I wouldn't mind making a video for you ;] but trust me when I say it's good even when taking public transport people on the other end of the call could still hear me very clear without issues. I highly recommend this phone much better than the lg optimus g or galaxy s3 I previously owned. I aint just saying it because I own the sony xperia z haha just my honest opinion.
That's great news thanks no idea how you would do a video lol but if you say it's good then I'm happy.

Easily. It's a little less loud than most other phones but it's still loud. It's not exactly inaudible.
I can say the sound quality with ClearAudio+ is nice but it there is not the best. I have my Note 2 optimized with Neak Kernel and his tweaks (Wolfson) are great.. The equalizer from XZ but the hammer looks great and can be adjusted some. Moreover, the unit is still fresh with the time kernel and various mods and custom roms come naturally (I also gets to cook too for XZ)
I don't want to crash the party but the speaker is just lame, it's positioned at the right side bottom of the phone which means that when you hold the phone you will cover the speaker (left hand with your fingers, holding it with right hand isn't an option because the speaker is in the palm of your hand) The speaker is tiny and totally not loud, and when watching a video you can hear the sound come out of the right corner instead from the phone, it's very directional, i am very disappointed about this.
Also sound through headphones is not as good as i would have liked and certainly not as full sounding as with S3.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 N7100 Stock Ear Plugs

Hey Guys I am new to this forum and found a lot of many interesting facts about the Samsung galaxy note 2 and I am not a kind of person who would like to Root my device may be because I am not sure on how it’s done or don’t want to take risk or because till now i did not understand the exact reason for rooting if someone could volunteer and explain it in a lay man language note in Technical language that would be highly appreciated and I previously owned the Gigantic Master Piece Samsung galaxy Note and was very satisfied just got it upgraded week back an seriously made the right decision to go for this as i was in a huge confusion to go for Lumia 920 0r SG NOTE 2, Well what embarrassed me was the Stock Ear phones its really Suc*s as I am not happy at all earlier also the Note had the same Specs ear plugs , i wish Samsung should improve the quality of ear phones and get some better quality headphones Out of the box ,and also noticed all the specs and reviews i have come across nobody has done review on ear plugs that come in the box, Now I am planning to purchase a good quality ear phones could some 1 suggest the best ear plugs not headphones.

For the money I love me some SkullCandy Ear Buds. I have a couple pair of them from TJ Maxx for $6.99 each. Just in case I lose them or if one breaks.
The sound quality, to me, is excellent. For ear buds it does produce a nice clean bass tone and nice rich highs.
They come in different styles but just try out some of the cheap ones, like I did, and you just can imagine how much better the more 'expensive' ones will sound.

i dont know about anyone here but my only real complaint (and its not even really a complaint) is the Note 2 stock music settings... or the overall playback of music... its horrible lol whether im listening through headphones, aux cable for , external speaker. the settings are really distorted.
Beats audio made things worse so i deleted it.
ive tried apollo player, stock player, mx player. switched settings around and nothing everything sounds distorted. EVEN WITH STWEAKS...
i dont know why anyone would want to listen to music on the note, but hey maybe its just me ...

I haven't noticed any distortion with my Bose in ear headphones, but I did have to play with the settings a lot to get the sound right. I just downloaded a trial for PowerAmp and played with it for a few minutes and it sounded really good. The stock setup from Samsung is terribly quiet STweaks helped with that. I saw that PeanutButta Jelly kernel has support for Voodoo Sound which I used before and was quiet impressed with.
I'm still stock and I agree about the quietness of the output for sound. Coming from a device that supported Beats and DSP Manager is really disappointing on this high end device. Still love this beast.

I tried different pair of ear plugs which are the Nokia Lumia and they sound very well when played on My blackberry and Nokia Lumia when same connected to SG N2 they sound very low I believe the output itself is bad Samsung need to improved there quality interns of Media .
I use Google Play Music with these settings and it sounds great! Try them out.

Sennheiser
Sennheiser IE80 works very well with the Wolfson DAC in Samsung Galaxy Note II. It really complements the already airy soundstage of the Sennheiser.
Beats and Skull Candies are bass-heavy iem that are more suited for hip-hop and techno music.
One more thing i noticed is that the ear phones are not comfortable specially i've ben using the Lumia plugs as i said earlier yesterday i thought of sharing this how cheap the quality or these stock ear plugs are, Last night was watching a Movie while sleeping and and these were so irritating that it was difficult to sleep with them when on ears , so switched to Lumia and they were so comfortable like them.
Guess What i updated the Kernel from Stock to Perseus and its giving amazing output tried Repill also that was also good
Try Frankenbeats on your phones. I really love it especially when using my sony headphones. Nice clear and thumpy bass.
I agree that the stock ear plugs are really a piece of crap. Mine are already damaged with fairly light use over 3 months.
I decided to go ahead and order a bluetooth set. Hopefully they are good.
Tried it and it spoiled my Sound i was Redpill and had to restore it to previous ,
Worst Part is i dint have the Sound effects option under Sound
Its not something shocking ,
Come on Samsung try to get some good quality Earphones ,
We paying almost like 35grand cant we expect you guys to improve the quality of earphones ?
It should not be worst quality at least make average quality
Its been like 1month now n ive hardly used it for 30mins switched to Lumia Headphones. :good:

Best In-ear Headphones for HTC One M8?

So I've owned my HTC One M8 for a couple of weeks now and I was wondering, what headphones are you guys using? The standard in-ear headphones are a bit crappy compared to the speakers. I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for good in-ear headphones with a microphone and volume control if possible. I do NOT want to get the BOSE-IE2 or whatever, I've had them before though they sound great, they are poorly made in materials and mess up quite fast. If anyone recommend me any great in-ear headphones that would be great. I'm considering the Beats Tour 2.0 but I'm willing to learn about more/others

whats your budget and what type of frequency do you like (bass, midrage, treble) Beats are total trash for music, I would get the Bose QC20 but you said you dont want it so answer those question and I'll provide you with a better answer.
I am running some IE80's and I can tell you there is a huge difference between them and the oem ones.
If you want something cheap but really good. Look into the JVC Marshmallows. They sound great and are very inexpensive. It's great for use as a pair of headphones you don't care about beating up.

Bass is mainly for Rap and R&B if you listen to those a lot and turn your music up to deafning level to get the pounding that it offers than the beats are for you, the problem with that is, its too much, it distort the other frequency, it overwhelm the music making it sound crappy, distorted and not what the artist intend for you to hear.
Midrange are mainly for vocal jazz, you hear the voice singing (more) to you, with defining instrument being play in the background, ussually audiophile love this, midrange is a something hard to tune in a headphone. too much midrange and treble however create a fatigue listening experience.
Treble is how clear your music is typically there is no specific genre to listen to but I imagine classical is a good suit for this, Treble make the sound seem clearer, but too much treble can make the sound seem grainy and fatiguing.
the typical mainstream In-ear are "V" shape what that mean is a boost in bass and treble while the midrange stay the same or slightly recessed. with the Beats, I believe the Bass is boosted way more than the other frequency.
Head to Head-fi and read up on it, I'm a pretty Noobish myself but I'm learning
last note, you should listen to music on a moderate level, if you lose your hearing it will never return.
Westone 4r's. Sound amazing with h/k mod.

I listen to moderate amounts of rap, not sure what r&b is but no to that. I also listen to lots of LOOP so I guess I'll go for beats then?

I would go with the RE400 first, if you dont like it then you could switch. RE400 is relatively cheap!
I'd recommend the audio technica ath-M50. For superb sound under 100$. They're over ear though.
For in-ear phones , I'd recommend RHA ma350. Brilliant sound. Clear , full bass & sparkly clear trebles. Probably the best "all round" 'phones I can think of.

take a look at the Hifiman RE-400, they make good premium headphones, and i'm sure their in-ears are good too. don't by Beats product, unless you really love bass.

+1 on the RE-400. If you're a basshead, I wouldn't really recommend these. But if you're looking for earphones that give accurate sound reproduction, these are perfect.

While I know westone has a good rep for in ear audio, i think $400 is way out of the man's $150 price range lol
Velodyne vPulse for me hands down, had a year of use with them and were probably the best in-ear i've used to date.. currently using AKG K67 on-ear tiesto.. its okay but gonna upgrade to vmoda m100's hopefully over the summer
bowers and wilkins c5 hands down the best sound quality and comfort available for the price.
Go to best buy and keep buying and returning pairs till you find some you like. The wife and I both use klipsch in-ear headphones. Just Pay the $15 for insurance every time they break, (about every 3-6 months depending on the use) and get the latest model. My wife uses them 30 hours a week casually and I use them 55 hours a week landscaping. So I'm much harder on them than she is.

For anyone in the UK head to nearest John Lewis store. Buy a pair and essentially trial them for 30 days. Return them within that timeframe for another pair. Rinse repeat. They offer a no quibbles trial period and return as they realise its something you have to try out yourself.

I'm using the stock ones that center with the Harman Kardon edition. Wouldn't switch then for anything else!
