[Q] Carrier IQ and the Samsung Focus S - Samsung Focus S

Hi,
I have searched for any information on Carrier IQ and the Samsung Focus S but have not found any. I have a Focus S and would like to know if anyone knows if this software is integrated or installed on the Focus S and if so, can it be removed or disabled? I had a long converation with Samsungmobile via their Live Support chat function and they less than forthcomming which makes me immediately suspicious.
Many thanks in advance

Your phone is safe. No WP7 devices have CIQ installed.

Many thanks, that's a relief

How do you install WM 6.1

Hey guys (and girls),
Hey i'm a semi-n00b and don't know how to update the version of Windows Mobile on my AT&T Tilt. Anyone can tell me how?? Thanks
Tek12x
I tried searching the forum but couldn't find anything.
search and read before you get flamed
You have to install hard-spl (in the Kaiser ROM Development section) by pof/olipro. Once you do that, find the rom you want, download it, and run the RUU.
It involves 2 paperclips and a wall socket, if you would like to proceed let me know.

Maybe he searched for the text string "anything"???
Nope. I tried that and got...
Results 1 - 10 of about 65,400 from forum.xda-developers.com for "anything". (0.22 seconds)
Maybe he (or she) should try this sticky at the top of the Kaiser General page on searching...

I think maybe he meant an official microsoft upgrade, not a "cooked rom". Microsoft has not realeased an upgrade to Windows Mobile Pro 6.0 for the tilt if that is what you meant . The only 6.1's that people are talking about are custom roms.
i don't think denco most of us here rely on "oem" official upgrades .. none the less searching and reading than searching some more and than some more reading and than memorizing what you have read is a MUST >.. so happy reading.
What?
While getting chastized by someone who joined "our forum" less than a month ago is appealing to people, it was a simple question that I thought got misunderstood. So I decided to end the thread with a simple answer, because I'm sure people have other things to do. Apparently not. I have had my Tilt since 10/07 and know it inside and out mostly from reading this forum since 10/07, and have never felt the need for a cooked rom. Screw with the interface yes, rom no need. Interesting poll question though. Out of 681,176 members on this site how many have oem roms and how many have custom roms? I know the most vocal have custom roms ,but 600000 is a lot of people

Maybe, However I don't think a developers/enthusiasts forum is the best place to ask.

So he feels a sense of belonging after a few weeks nothing wrong with that. Also a forum is not defined by its number of members, but its number of active members and the mission statement made by the Founders.
Mission Statement:
Welcome to xda-developers.com
This site is about certain PDA-phones, made by a firm called HTC in Taiwan. Their makers named them 'Wallaby', 'Himalaya', 'Blue Angel', 'Wizard' and 'TyTN', but almost nobody knows them by those names. The mobile provider O2 sells them under the brand-name 'XDA', and that's what we had in our hands first. They're also known as Qtek, MDA, SX-56, Hermes and many, many other names.
Since we develop software for it, we need information, and nobody seemed eager or ready to give us what we needed. So we 'reverse-engineered' the devices, found a lot of information, and shared it with the world. But as our site grew we realised that lots of ordinary users were also suffering from a lack of support. They started using the xda-developers forum to communicate and before long the forum was as much a user forum as it was a developer forum.
We hope that you will enjoy this site and find it as useful as we do. We encourage you to donate or otherwise support this site. Of course absolutely all proceeds from donations will benefit this community.

Totally agree. No one wants thread jumping or serial threaders or how do I turn on my phone? But it seemed like a simple question and the " noob " got totally flamed for it. Jimmy, you pointed out that maybe a developers/enthusiast site is not the place for simple questions, but then you go and point out the mission statement to me that says that "as our site grew we realized that lots of ordinary users were also suffering from lack of support". " and before long the forum was as much a user forum as it was a developers forum." A bit of a contradiction , which is it a snotty developers forum, like Jimmy suggests in the first half of his post ( I believe there already is a section of this forum for development and hacking ideas that is off limits to the common folk), or a users forum like the mission statement suggests in the second half of his post? I can live with either one.

So you're telling me that having the inability to search is perfectly acceptable?
Google is arguably the best search engine around, and XDA uses it for site searches. Do you go to Google's home page, and then without typing anything in the search box, just give up?
It ultimately comes down to the rules of the forum; one of which included searching before creating threads. If someone cannot follow a few simple rules, then they have bigger issues then not knowing how to install a ROM on their phone.

My problem is not with reminding people to search, some of my answers to posts have also included gentle reminders to search followed by helpful ( I hope ) answers. My problem is with flaming people before clarifying the question. I "did" a forum search on an MS upgrade for 6.0 on a TILT before I decided to speak up and found nothing pertaining to the tilt. " How do you install Windows Mobile 6.1 on a Tilt? " " There is no 6.1 yet. " How hard is that? I have been programming for 33 yrs, I started out on a key punch terminal and then fed hundreds of punch cards into a reel to reel magnetic tape " processor " the size of most people's living rooms. My first in a long line of PDAs and smart phones, was an Apple Newton. I may be an idiot, but not from lack of experience. Exactly when did people get so full of themselves. But this is not " my " forum so I guess I should just butt out.

Shame on me? Shame on you sir. This forum is filled with very usefull and important information. People just need to look for it. If we allow every Tom, ****, and Bob, to post threads willy-nilly without remand or maintaining some flow. The forum become deluted with crap, the information will be impossible to find. And our key smart people will leave. Then we might as well change the Topic of this forum to "Talking about the OC."
The Mods have said their piece on this, I personally have been following their wishes. I recommend everyone else does too.

Maybe I should have been more clear. I know this is a Users Forum. Given the Typical Popular Topics I might say "Power User." Still The Mission Statement put forth by the Founders says users forum, not Free Technical Support Forum. Giving someone some Support and doing the researchfor them without thanks at two totally separate things. You need to learn to have a little thicker skin. I didn't say Snotty Developers Forum.
Fine you know what, you want to be an ass about all this, since I appear to be the only one of this opinion. That opinion of use "search" first, and start a new thread as a last resort. Here you go then....

Camera is garbage!?!?

I've been using Myn's Warm Donut for the past week and all in all, it's a great build. My only complaint is that the camera picture quality is terrible. I've tried using the slider to increase the picture quality, which does help, but is nowhere near the quality of pictures taken on NFSFan's windows mobile 6.5 ROM. At it's highest setting, there are lines and noise throughout the image and a very visible horizontal line about 1/4 up from the bottom of the picture. Is anyone else having this problem?

Because repeating yourself over and over without actually adding to the discussion or attempting to help comes across as pointless.
Searching before posting is the first rule in the rules thread. Different searched yield different results, and some people may not know the proper terminology to find their answer.
Think about it this way: Say you searched, didn't find your answer, regardless of whether or not it was out there. Since you were unable to find it, you post your question. Someone replied, and you got hopeful that maybe an answer had presented itself since your search tactics were not effective. You go to the reply and all they said was "you should probably search for it." This can be frustrating because 1) you already did that, and 2) instead of going further and trying to help you, the person replying left you exactly where you were before, but wasted your time and frustrated you in the process.
I would recommend you stop telling everyone to search unless you yourself can help them find their answer in the same post.
malice9999, I have also had the camera issue (on multiple builds), but I hardly use it so it was never worth mentioning. However, this question may have been better served in the thread for the build in question.

if you have a question that involves one of the roms then its best to ask that question in that thread instead of making new threads to take up space. ive been chewed out for posting threads that have already been asked but when i simply tell someone to search im the bad guy???? this forum and the people in it are starting to get out of controll with asking the same questions over and over and over and people getting an attitude. if somebody is not helpfull then ignore that post. there is no need to get an attitude, it will just create a problem.
Malice9999, as I understand it the camera for the Vogue is not fully implemented in Android as of yet but people are working on it. It doesn't work too great in any of the Android builds, but hopefully soon.
Personally I always thought the camera on teh Vogue was next to worthless anyways..
THis thread has been discussed elsewhere and there has been enough flaming in this thread, hence it is now closed.
Happy Easter if you follow that trend

[Q] Non-rooted Update for AT&T Cappy?

I posted this in the General forum & it was promptly closed & I was asked to search in this forum for an answer. Well, that didn't go so well as all I came up with was numerous posts of how to root my phone, which is exactly what I don't want to do. So, hopefully this will not be closed out as well.
I must admit that I tired of chasing AT&T & Samsung as to when the Gingerbread update would be available awhile back.
Then I saw an ad on TV that I'm pretty sure was for AT&T but another Android-based phone & they were hyping that the phone was equipped w/Android OS 4.0 so that it now rivaled the 'iCrap' phone.
Would someone please set me straight on which legit OS's have or are soon to be released () for the Cappy, or any new Samsung phone at that!
Thanks!
As far as Gingerbread for the Captivate well, Rogers released it for their i896 not to long ago, and so all we can do is hope for at&t to release it for us soon.
That's really all we know as far as the Captivate is concerned. This has been discussed over and over and that is why your previous thread was closed by the Forum Moderator.
As far as ICS...
Here ya go... http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...ream-sandwich-for-galaxy-s-and-tab-after-all/
As far as other Samsung phones, it would probably be better to find info on that through Google as opposed to here in the Captivate Forums.
I just googled it and found an entire page of articles in the past month or so with exactly what you're looking for. So so so much easier than making a post.

Thanks much for the link, which was quite heavily redacted )). Your point is well taken about just doing a Google search than posting here. Besides, I don't need someone telling me to go searching through the forum posts as my question has been asked many times before. [Q] Galaxy S

Good Evening:
This is my first time and first post here. I've gotten pretty frustrated and am hoping someone can help me out? I have a Galaxy S phone, model number SHW-110S; firmware: 2..2; kernel: 2.6.32.9; build version: FroYo.SK22. I've been all over the net and can't seem to get the users manual specific to this particular phone. So, I have a number of questions? Let's start with this one: where can I get/download a users manual specific to this phone? If it becomes too difficult to find, then my next question would be: Can I upgrade this phones O.S.? Now, there are still many more questions, but I think that's enough to get started in the right direction.
Thank You:
Rick
Hi, ive been lurking a long time and I believe that your model of the Galaxy is a Korean version.
I found this page about turning the SHW-110S into an I9000 model. I can't post the link since i have less than 10 posts so just look up Turn SHW-110S to GT-I9000 (Samsung Galaxy S) on Google
I hope it can help you in some way. :good:
Maybe it helps asking your question in the galaxy s q&a subforum
Sent from my One Plus One
REPLY TO kishagi:
Afternoon kishagi:
You are correct; it is a Korean make/model. It was with great interest that I read you reply. NO ONE has suggested this maneuver. And keeping with that theme, would it not be best just to upgrade the O.S? As far as I can tell, I can go only as far as Honeycomb 2,3,6(?). Now, should I option for this upgrade, I wonder if I'd be able to activate the FM/TV receiver in the phone? I've done a LOT of searching and believe I've found the answer to the FM question. That is to install a widget called simply "Galaxy S radio widget". However, it seems that widget is defunct(?). So, could you suggest another widget that is comparable and compatible with this phone? And would you know if I'd upgrade whether this widget would still operate in Honeycomb? THANX for responding and my apologies for taking so long to reply!
STAY SHARP:
Rick
ADDENDUM: This has got to be THE most frustrating forums/site I've ever been in!!!! Once you login, just trying to get back to this forum/subforum is a nightmare!! I'm also extremely disappointed by the lack of response/lack of knowledge this supposedly "special forum" delivers. Read the "into" to this forum, it clearly deceives anyone that comes to this forum into thinking their phones issues might be solved. I've not only had so much difficult in trying to start/post a "thread" (hell, most of the time I can't even find the "icon" to tik), once I login, I have one hell of a time even finding/getting into this subforum. I'm not getting/receiving responses to my questions. Clearly, there was no one devoting "'special" attention/service" to this forum as stated in the introduction. IF I find where to unsubscribe I will certainly do so. TO THE DEVELOPERS OF THIS FORUM: You and this supposed forum are a sad joke and a complete waste of time and space.!!!!!

Question Dedicated S21 Ultra Forum?

I noticed that the 6.2 inch S21 has it's own dedicated forum with the typical group of threads that XDA always offers - Questions, News, Development/Roms, Accessories. However, I have not been able to find a dedicated forum for the S21 Ultra? There is only this thread - which only allows us to combine our comments/requests/news or whatever into a single thread - which obviously does not offer any kind of organization of similar threads like XDA usually does.
Am I missing something ? Is there a forum like the S21 Forum for the S21 Ultra? If so - Link please? If there isn't one, why not? Why would the basic S21 get it's own group of 4 threads while the S21 Ultra only gets one? in case I am not making myself clear, here is a link to the S21 Thread - S21 Dedicated Threads let me know if you know of something similar for the S21 Ultra.

Agreed.
Be careful what you wish for. When the S20 first came out, the S20U had its own dedicated forum with sub-groups for reviews, etc. Then they decided to merge EVERYTHING, and a lot of the S21U specific posts from the previous month or two were just wiped away. Personally, I would think there should be one S21 main forum, with sub-groups that are either distinct or separate, as appropriate (e.g. apps could be combined for all S21, but real life reviews should be separate for each). I don't know why they can't get this right.
I, too, would like this.

Greeting guys. While I know that the new forum layout isn't what we're all used to, this is XDA going forward since the migration to the new platform. This new "Prefix" based system should help with speed, indexing and searching once a few of the kinks are worked out. I know we are all creatures of habit, but as the saying goes, "The only constant in life is change."
I hope you will all be patient and understanding going forward, and will grow to like the new platform as time marches on, and we appreciate members such as yourselves being the backbone of what makes XDA a great place to learn, share, and do what we love doing to our devices. Even if that means creating a very expensive paperweight from time to time.

As a small feedback, please consider putting the filters as buttons on top of the list (of the threads), in order to select or de-select one or more categories. Should be much more user-friendly

Best regards to all: Badger50

Thanks for the follow up and detailed explanation. It all makes sense - and I hope XDA will remain open to listening to it's members for the occasional adjustment - if it is deemed appropriate.
One quick thought - assuming a group of phones like S21, S21 Plus and S21 Ultra, would we have a main thread that combines all the phones together - much like the S20 Note has done - then threads like this thread for the Ultra might be inside that "mother thread" ? Just a thought. In the meantime, I love XDA and will be around for a long time - "if the lord is wiling and the creek don't rise"..... Thanks again....

I just couldn't resist. Thanks for the tip my friend.

i like it this way, much easier to view new posts
instead of clicking multi sub group to find new posts.
Ive been trying to get used to the format but i dont like having all the topics in one thread.
I prefer to have the sub forums of old so i can read what i want to read in that specific forum and not have to sift through a bunch of stuff i dont care about .
Ive been spending much less time here because of this, its thats frustrating. Hopefully enough people will raise this same thing and things will change!
So many posts that are intermingled together that initially rely on the correct prefix to be relevant are causing me issues, I'll try to get used to it, but I don't see benefits .
I also thought that buying bitcoin at 3 dollars was stupid, just saying...
I mean how would prefix this, which I think is true BTW.?
Samsung money card won't run initial activation on Samsung pay unless you have chrome installed .
Samsung browser will not work, I've tried it and thought it was a bad firmware install but it isn't.
Does any body else have this issue?

That's a question... You're just prefacing it with some info.

I agree with that. And I want to add to it:
Once you filter a category (say with the proposed button which is a very good solution) and you want to MARK it READ, this action should solely mark read this category only, not the entire forum!
edit: I'll post it here too.
