files transfer in download mode and recovery mode? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried a new kernel, but forgot to put the flash file on the internal card first. Now my phone wont boot as there is no OS on my phone. I can't mount the USB as it keep saying something about can only mount usb in idle mode. And I cant seem to mount USB in recovery mode either. MTP keep failing in windows.
Only way is somehow to transfer that damn zip file by Odin or some other ways
Any help?

Reboot into recovery got mounts and storage and the last option is Mount USB storage select that plug your sgs in and everything should be fine

Have you tried to plug the cable to a different USB port? Sometimes it resolves the issue as it needs to install new drivers on that port.

No Mount USB

Yea, So working on something very close.
I formated my phone, and then wiped all the data on it after. My problem is I wiped the ROM that I was using at the time (otherwise I would boot back up and replace my deleted ROM using Android file transfer). I've also deleted the new ROM (and everything else) on the internal SD card that I was going to switch to. How can I force a ROM back onto my SD card? I can't boot back into the phone save for Recovery, and dowload screens so I can't enable the phone to "act as a usb device"
I have CWR 6.0.1, and can only boot into that program, and the Samsung Download screen.
I tried to go to mounts but only see system, cache and data. I can mount and unmount those (but they don't change anything. I also have a /sdcard option to mount, but i can't do anything with it, it doesn't switch back and forth between mount and unmount like the others do. I don't see a Mount USB option like you were talking about above.
I am using a VZW GNex (toro)
Macbook running snow lepord.

Go to samfirmware and dowload the 2.3.6 rom for the i9000 anf flash it with odin next install cwm recovery and its done

Is the operating system working normally? If yes, you can use option "connect as media storage" as it isn't enabled by default
tetakpatalked from 1+One

when i go into recovery mode and select mounts and storage menu then i select mount /sd-ex it show error mounting sd-ext ..................... i just want to move my files that are located in internal storage to my pc..... is there any way to do that

Hi azar
Did you tried to transfer using ADB . in your case if you have a custom recovery installed its possible
google this "transfer file using adb from recovery mode"
Hope this helps..

found the solution with recovery mode :
in windows hardware manager : delete adb I9100
in recovery mode press "unmount" : this will reload the phone driver and give full access to internal memory and sdcard on windows explorer
in your windows manager you should now see a warning device called GT-I9100
this worked after I reinstalled drivers (not from kies)
This problems happens because windows detects a new device and downloads this "adb driver" ONLY in recovery mode. So this is not the samsung driver.

[Q] need to copy and update.zip to internal sd, problems!

hello,
I explain what happened.. after a little bad luck I briked my phone, but I have the update.zip to restore the previous state, the problem I have is that update.zip is in my pc.
how can I transfer the update.zip file to my phone if it's bricked?
I tried to go into CWM recovery, and then connect via ADB, but my pc it doesn't detect the phone (I've installed samsung usb drivers from this forum). also I tried the option "mount USB storage" in CWM but my pc doesn't do anything, and I have the sdcard mounted.
what can I do? thanks in advance!
best regards!
Jord
try to put the file on external sd and see if you can flash it thru recovery.
otherwise boot into download mode and flash that son of a ***** !!!
thanks a lot for your answer
the problem is that I have a trip pictures in internal SD card, that's why I'm avoiding to flash again through Download mode. (I have all other data in a backup except the pictures!)
now I've copied the update.zip to the external sd, I've mounted the external sd, but when I chose external_sd folder to apply the update.zip it says that "no files found" all possible methods aren't working
it was worth a shot but i didnt think it would work.
i think to flash from the external sd requires a steam kernel.
anyway, try do do a factory reset and see it that helps. along with formatting cache / dalvik cache
this will not delete items on your internal sd card

Odin doesn't touch the Internal SD, so why should that be an issue?
thanks both for your answers.
the problem is that I have voodoo lagfix enabled, and I can`t disabled it because it says that there is not enough free space on sd card (because of the pictures I want to save), so I think that with voodoo lagfix enabled I can't restore the firmware via odin, unfortunately. I wish I'm wrong
thanks a lot again
Just flash 2.1 with 3 files + re partition checked
u shd be sweet to use it

my odin shows that they are two devices connected when I connect my phone (because of voodoo lagfix enabled) so.. are you saying that even if in that state, I reflash my stock firmware with repartition enabled, my sdcard data will be fine after reflashing? I ask that because unfortunately I'm not sure
thanks a lot

No rom on my captivate

hi everyone, so yesterday i was trying to install CM7.1 but i forgot to put the new rom into the internal sd of the phone before beggining to flash, so i wipe the cache and everything and then i realized the next step was to install the new rom from the clockworkmod
so now i have no rom on it, i tried to flash it with odin, but odin doesn't recognize my phone but my phone can go to download mode, so i don't know what should i do
also my pc is recognizing my phone as a modem android device
please help me, what should i do?? thanks in advanced
Only thing I can think is driver issue. Did you format the SD card? how did you loose the ROM?
boot into recovery > mounts and storage > mount USB (plug in USB too)
copy rom to phone.
also you could go..... with phone plugged in (in download mode) go to windows control panel > Device Manager > [look for android device with yellow triangle] > right click it > update drivers > from internet.
now download mode will work.
I think there is an option inside of CWM to mount the SD card or the external SD. If you can do that, just plug into your computer, mount the SD, and load the ROM that way.
If there is no ROM that will not work... I have tried

[Q] How to get data on the device

Hello guys,
I tried to flash a Galaxy S i9000 from old Android stock OS to cm-10.0.0-galaxysmtd.
I followed the instructions in the wiki of cyanogenmod
Everything was fine during the preparation period (Installing a custom recovery on Galaxy S - Steps 1 to 7)
So I am able now to boot into ClockworkMod Recovery but my problem is I can't transfer cm-10.0.0-galaxysmtd.zip to the device.
As far as I know there are two ways to bring the cm...zip file to the device:
1) Place it on an external sd card
- I tried that, but I can't access my external sd card via ClockworkMod recovery. When I try to mount external SD card I get: Error mounting SDEXT:!
2) Use adb push to place the data on the device
- I tried that as well, but when I try to use "adb.exe push cm-10.0.0-galaxysmtd.zip /sdcard/" it takes one minute until I get "Failed to copy - permission denied"
When I use "adb devices" I get "323xxxx recovery"
Unfortunately my mobile phone isn't booting to the normal OS any more.
How can I bring the ZIP file to my device?
Can you tell me what I can do?!
Thanks
go to recovery. plug your phone to your pc
mounts and storage -> mount USB storage -> viola! - now you should see your phone sd card on your pc.
edit: if it doesn't work you can try different USB ports or maybe reinstall kies or drivers.

[Q] HELP Deleted internal in TWRP

This is the first time I've done this so I have NO idea how to fix it . I was just flashing a new rom
when I accidently checked off system in WIPE. Everything is gone obviously. Can someone please tell me what to do from here? I have no access to a computer till later today. Any help is appreciated thank you!
Update: internal storage is also deleted. The phone has nothing. No OS what so ever.
What do i do?
Thanks for any help
You deleted system or internal storage? If just system then reflash the rom. The zip should still be on your phone
your sdcard contents are still there, since sdcard "lives" in /data/media NOT in /system
proceed to flash whatever ROM+gapps you were going to install, wiping system is actually one of the steps many people do when doing a clean install
if internal storage is deleted you have 2 options
1. copy ROM and gaps on a USB flash drive , use a OTG cable to connect them, reboot into recovery , mount USB-OTG, you can install whatever zips you have on the flash drive
2. push the files to the sdcard from your computer using ADB push

TWRP Supports MTP connections. Plug the phone in via USB then go into "Mounts" and "enable MTP". Then just drag and drop the files into internal storage
the babadook! ?
